Why Orange Juice Tastes Bad After Brushing Teeth
Have you ever wondered why orange juice tastes terrible after brushing your teeth? A drink that is usually sweet and refreshing can suddenly become bitter and unpleasant.
This strange experience is not caused by the juice itself, but by the short-term changes happening in your mouth. Our sense of taste depends on thousands of taste cells on the surface of the tongue. These cells contain special structures that help the brain tell different flavors, including sweet, sour, salty, and bitter tastes.
However, some ingredients in toothpaste (牙膏) can affect how these cells work for a short time. Most toothpaste contains a cleaning ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate, which helps remove dirt and bacteria (细菌) from teeth. However, this material can also influence the protective layer of taste cells. After brushing, it may reduce the ability to sense sweetness while making certain sour flavors stronger. That is why orange juice, which contains natural acids (酸性), may suddenly taste bitter.
This unusual reaction shows how closely the chemical world is connected with our daily experiences. Scientists believe that our sense of taste developed to help humans survive. Sweet flavors often suggest a useful source of energy, while bitter flavors can warn us about possible dangers in nature. Although the bitter taste after brushing is only brief, it gives us a chance to understand how our bodies work. A simple morning habit can show the complicated relationship between chemistry, biology, and human senses.
21. Why does orange juice taste bad after brushing teeth?
A. The juice turns bad. B. People’s tongues get hurt.
C. Juice produces new bacteria. D. Something in toothpaste influences our taste cells.
22. What can sodium lauryl sulfate do?
A. It helps clean teeth. B. It makes juice sweeter.
C. It produces natural acids. D. It changes our body temperature.
23. What can we know from the last paragraph?
A. Brushing teeth is a bad habit for our bodies.
B. Sweet food is the only source of human energy.
C. Bitter tastes are sure to bring dangers to humans.
D. Our sense of taste is helpful for people’s survival.
【答案】21. D 22. A 23. D

Hanyuan 2: The Room-Temperature Quantum Computer
① On May 8, 2026, Chinese scientists introduced a brand new type of computer called “Hanyuan 2”. It is the world’s first dual-core atomic (原子的) quantum computer (量子计算机). Unlike the computer you use at school or at home, which runs on silicon (硅) chips, Hanyuan 2 uses 200 rubidium (铷) atoms as its “brain” to perform calculations.
② What makes Hanyuan 2 so special is that it works steadily in a normal lab environment. Traditional quantum computers are extremely sensitive. They usually have to be kept colder than outer space which
requires huge and expensive cooling systems. In fact, some of them are as large as a room because of all the cooling equipment.
③ Hanyuan 2, however, does not need any of that. It runs at room temperature and its total power consumption (消耗) is less than 7 kilowatts — about the same as two or three household air conditioners. But being easy to run does not mean it is weak. Hanyuan 2 is also highly accurate. Its single-bit gate fidelity (保真度) reaches 99.9%, a big improvement from its earlier version, Hanyuan 1, which had only 90% accuracy. Moreover, the atoms inside Hanyuan 2 can stay alive and stable for more than 100 seconds — much longer than before. This longer “lifetime” allows the computer to solve more complex problems.
④ Why should we care about a quantum computer that needs no fridge? Because this technology makes quantum computing more accessible (可接入的) and much cheaper to run. Scientists believe that Hanyuan 2 will speed up breakthroughs in many fields. For example, it could help design new life-saving drugs in weeks instead of years. It could also help crack codes that would take ordinary computers hundreds of years to break.
⑤ With Hanyuan 2, China is taking a big step toward making the quantum future a reality.
32. What do we know about Hanyuan 2?
A. 200 rubidium atoms act as its “brain”.
B. It uses silicon chips to finish calculations.
C. Its power consumption is over 10 kilowatts.
D. It was invented by foreign scientists in 2025.
33. What has the closest meaning to the underlined phrase “speed up breakthroughs” in Paragraph 4?
A. put off breakthroughs for years. B. make breakthroughs happen faster.
C. stop breakthroughs from happening. D. make breakthroughs completely useless.
34. Why is Hanyuan 2 considered a great technological progress?
A. Because it is as large as a common household air conditioner.
B. Because it can produce new kinds of rubidium atoms by itself.
C. Because it completely takes the place of all ordinary home computers.
D. Because it can work at room temperature with low power consumption and strong performance.
35. What is the best structure of this passage?
A. B.
C. D.
【答案】32. A 33. B 34. D 35. D

阅读下文并回答问题。
On July 15, 2026, a piece of surprising news came from the literary world. Wang Jibing, a 56-year-old food delivery rider, won the Lu Xun Literature Prize for his poetry collection Flying Low. This made him the first delivery rider to receive this honor in the history of the award.
Wang’s winning work, Flying Low, is his third poetry collection. To write it, he interviewed more than 140 delivery riders and sent out 60 questionnaires. He wanted to record the real lives of his fellow riders — their struggles (挣扎), hopes, and dreams.
Wang’s journey as a writer was long and difficult. He was born in 1969 and left school early. He started writing in 1988. But for many years, his work was never published, yet he never stopped creating. He did many jobs: construction worker, street vendor, garbage collector. In 2002, he moved to Kunshan with only 500 yuan. In 2018, he became a food delivery rider.
His most famous poem, The Man Who Rushes Against Time, was written during a delivery. He climbed to the 6th floor three times for wrong addresses. All three orders were late. After apologizing to each customer, he wrote the poem on his way home. Three years later, a friend shared it online, and it got over 10 million views. Wang Jibing said, “That’s when I realized I was not the only one rushing against time.”
Wang Jibing still works as a delivery rider today. His story shows that ________.

Some people get so used to lying that they do so even when it’s not necessary. I’ve worked with a number of these people and got some ideas about the way they think. Believe it or not, their lies may be understandable when you look at them from their point of view.
Often, people want things to go their way. To some people, the truth might not fit their plan, so they choose to stay away from it.
Sometimes the lie might not seem important to you, but it matters to them. They may put too much pressure on themselves or think the situation is a big deal.
Or they just don’t want to let you down. People who lie a lot are often worried about losing the love of those around them.
Moreover, lies can grow. One small lie leads to more lies to cover it up. If the liars (骗子) admit to (承认) any single lie, they feel like they’re admitting to being a liar, and that’s scary.
At other times, it’s not a lie to them. They might truly believe their lies at that moment. Studies show that our memories are influenced by many things. Stress, or their wish to make things work can make them remember things differently.
Most people are honest most of the time. Even if some people lie more, they’re usually honest. Instead of asking why they lie, try to know why the situation is so important to them. Showing empathy (同理心) and praising honesty can encourage more truth-telling. Being honest is important, and helping others be honest is also a good thing.
Some people are used to lying. _______63_______? Firstly, they stay away from the truth to make things seem in control. Secondly, they push themselves too hard or _______64_______ too seriously. Thirdly, they want to live up to people’s expectation through lies. Fourthly, they _______65_______. Lastly, they remember things mistakenly and then they make up the lies.
How can we help them? For one thing, let’s try to know the importance of the situation. For another, we can try to show them that we understand how they feel and _______66_______ by praising honesty.
【答案】63.
Why they lie
64.
take the situation
65.
are scared of being liars
66.
encourage them
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章分析了有些人习惯说谎的原因,还介绍了帮助他们的方法。

【66题详解】

Captain Nemo took me to the dining room. We sat at a table in the middle of the room and ate a delicious lunch. He told me that all the food came from the sea. “I love the sea,” he said. “It gives me everything that I need. Even my clothes come from the sea. It is a place of perfect peace. There are no governments, no taxes, and no wars. Here, I am truly free! I will never return to the land.” He took me to see the library which had thousands of books in many languages. Then he showed me the art gallery. It had many paintings by famous artists. The next room was a museum with all kinds of treasures from the sea. I had never seen such a good museum.
Captain Nemo was very proud of his collection and very proud of the Nautilus (鹦鹉螺号). He told me that he had discovered a way to make electricity using salt and mercury (水银). This electricity gave the Nautilus all the power it needed to move through the water. Huge pumps filled and emptied (排空) tanks of air and water to make the Nautilus sink or rise.
After we got to the engine room, Captain Nemo showed me the engine and explained how it worked. The Nautilus was seventy meters long and eight meters wide. It had a cylindrical (圆柱形的) shape with points on each end and weighed 1,500 tons. “It’s a wonderful ship!” I exclaimed (惊叫). “I love it as if it were my child,” he replied.
“How did you build it in secret?” I asked. “All the parts were made in different countries. I used different names each time I placed an order. I took all the parts to a desert island, and my workmen put them together. Then, we burned our workshops.”
“It must have cost a fortune (大笔的钱)!” I exclaimed.
“Millions of dollars,” he replied. “However, I have billions!”

A. B.
C. D.
