Most children don’t enjoy doing housework. They like playing computer games rather than cleaning the rooms. But in Australia, Jim and Robert’s mother, Mrs Black, has good and proper methods to get their children to do housework. Here is an example.
“Mum, did you work out next week’s housework? Let Jim and me choose the cards. I can’t wait. It’s fun!”
When Robert shouted out, his mother had already put all the cards on their big table. On the cards, there were some words like “sweep the floor, clean your bedroom, help Mum cook, wash vegetables, make beds, feed the fish, cut the wood, clean the bathroom” and many others. Jim and Robert chose two cards for each day from Monday to Friday. Then they would hang them on the weekday task board. Jim liked to clean the bathroom, so he picked up the card “clean the bathroom”. Robert loved to make the bed so he picked up his favourite card. Jim again picked up “wash vegetables” and Robert chose “feed the fish”. Soon the two boys were happy to take away all the cards.
To help the children do housework, their mother thought hard and figured out this idea. Of course, the parents did the housework at weekends and left Jim and Robert two days free.

Doing housework is a part of the family life. Some parents refuse to let kids do housework to make them enjoy more playtime. Others teach kids to do housework to make kids become independent. Then here comes the question: ________ My answer is yes and the following are my reasons.
Doing housework teaches kids life skills. Many of the life skills are things that teachers do not teach, so it’s even more important for kids to learn to do housework.
Doing housework makes kids learn to take on responsibilities (责任) and gain independence (独立). Living with their parents, they should know that everyone in the family should do their part in keeping the house clean. As long as kids can do things by themselves, they won’t always ask their parents for help.
Doing housework helps kids understand their parents better. When parents do the housework, most kids think it’s easy. Unless kids try some housework themselves, they won’t know how hard their parents are. However, giving them housework may help this insight come quickly.
Doing housework helps improve kids’ planning skills. When kids have schoolwork, housework and free time activities in a day, they need to decide what to do first. This way, they will improve their planning skills.
It’s true that studies are important to kids, but it doesn’t mean that kids need to spend all the time on their studies. At different ages, there is some housework that is right for kids. If they can do it, it will be good for their development.
26.Which of the following can be put in “________”?
A.Should children help with housework? B.Why is playtime important to kids?

A. B.
C. D.
30.Which of the following does the writer agree with?
A.Children should spend all the time on their studies.
B.Doing housework is more important to kids than studies.
C.The earlier kids do housework, the better it is for them.
D.Doing right housework at different ages is good for kids.

One evening last summer, I asked my 14-year-old son, Jack, to help with dinner. His question surprised me, “What is a colander (漏勺)?” he said.
I was the only one who could cook for the family! But that night, when I told him a colander is the thing with holes, I knew there was something else I should teach Jack. As a mother, I cared about his grades and what kind of person he was. But I always forgot that I should also raise someone who could be a good roommate, boyfriend, husband, or father in the future. I just raised a boy who would always ask, “What’s for dinner, Mom?”
So I made a plan: I would teach Jack housework. I was happy that he said yes.
For two hours, three days a week, Jack learned from me. One day, while his tomato sauce (番茄酱) was getting thick on the stove, he washed a chicken and put seasoning (调料) on it to roast. Then he rolled out the piecrust (馅饼皮) and put apples in it. All the time, I was telling him why it’s important to preheat the oven (烤箱). I knew he liked playing basketball, but he had to learn to mend socks with me. He tried to stop the sewing lessons, but I said no.
“Thank you for what you do as a mom,” he told me one day.
Now, he can not only make his own dinner but also cook a big meal for the family. That’s what we call a real man. I’m glad I prepared a great gift for my future daughter-in-law (儿媳).

Many kids help their parents to do chores such as washing the dishes, packing up things, cleaning the floor and taking out the rubbish in the house. And some kids get money or other rewards from their parents, such as playing computer games for 20 minutes.
But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. One of them is Susie Walton, a parenting educator. She believes that if kids often get rewards, they will think that work isn’t worth (值得) doing unless they can get something. For example, kids won’t sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will clean the floor if their parents reward them for it. Susie said, “A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It’s very important and necessary for kids to see that it’s all the family members’ job to keep their homes clean and comfortable.”
However, other people have different opinions. They believe that money or other rewards can encourage kids to do more and more chores. It also teaches them a real world lesson that we need to work to make money. Now, there are also many apps that encourage kids to do chores. The apps give kids points and gifts that can be used either online or in the real world when they finish some housework. With the Chore Monster app, kids get points after they do chores. Kids can exchange (交换) their points for real rewards, such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall.
What do you think of the two different opinions? Which one will you agree with? Should kids be rewarded for doing chores? Or should kids help out around their homes without getting anything?

28.根据文章第二段中“Doing housework teaches kids life skills.”、第三段中“Doing housework makes kids learn to take on responsibilities (责任) and gain independence (独立).”、第五段中“Doing housework helps improve kids’ planning skills.”,可知做家务能帮助孩子学习生活技能、变得独立、提升规划能力,对应①②④。
30.根据文章最后一段中“At different ages, there is some housework that is right for kids. If they can do it, it will be good for their development.”

34.根据第四段中“I knew he liked playing basketball, but he had to learn to mend socks with me.”

空格前文交代Tim捡到带有岛屿标记的藏宝图,空格后交代出发冒险的具体行动:“though he felt a little worried about possible dangers…and then rowed his small boat out to sea”,此处需要承接上文获得地图的情节,引出下文一系列出海准备。B项“Tim decided to start the journey with Buddy”起到承上启下的作用。
42.定位原文第三段:“Tim’s heart raced as he stepped inside”,此时Tim刚刚踏入布满藤蔓与苔藓的陌生洞穴,眼前一切都是未知,C项“he didn’t know what would happen next”符合语境,身处完全未知的环境,无法预判接下来会遇到什么,内心紧张忐忑,因此心跳加速。
43.定位画线词所在句:“True treasure is the courage to explore”,意思是”真正的宝藏是勇于探索的____”。
Tim told himself. He searched his pocket and took out the flashlight”,可知在石门关闭陷入黑暗时,Tim保持冷静,拿出手电筒寻找出路,由此看出男孩在旅途过程中展现出了智慧与冷静。

47.根据第四段中“I decided that I wouldn’t let Tim’s disorderly habits change my plans.”
48.根据第四段中“I bought three big boxes and took them to Tim’s room.”
49.根据最后一段中“When Saturday came, we took the clothes from the first box to the laundry. Then we put the books on the shelf and the toys in the toy box. Finally, we threw the rubbish away. Then Tim and I played with Gretchen until the time for the baseball game.”
