Arizona was happy when her best friend Lily made the top football team. She loved watching her play, especially when she scored. But deep down, she felt a little jealous (忌妒的). She had also tried out for the team but failed. “I’m really happy for Lily,” she thought on her way home, “but why can’t I be that good too?”
The next day, Lily showed up at Arizona’s swim practice. They joked around by the pool. When Lily pretended (假装) to kick a ball, she fell into the water! Arizona laughed so hard that she nearly fell into it too. “I’m not laughing at your pain,” she said, “just your crazy hair!” Later, Arizona’s swim team invited Lily to join them for a race. Arizona won easily, while Lily finished last though she tried her best.
After the practice, Arizona and Lily went to the dining hall together. Arizona finally told Lily how she felt. “I was a little jealous when you made the top football team,” she said quietly. “I wanted to be on it too.”
Lily nodded with a smile. “I get it. But you’re so fast in the pool — you’re like an aqua rocket (水火箭)! I swam like a chicken, remember?” She started dancing like a chicken, and Arizona couldn’t help laughing.
From that day on, they understood it was OK to feel both happy and jealous at the same time. Arizona promised to cheer for Lily at her first big football game, and Lily said she’d come to Arizona’s swim practices too. Whenever they felt down, they’d do their silly chicken dance. Being a teenager is not easy these days. You have to face new problems and try to find out how to deal with them. You’re wondering how to fit into society. And then there are worries of school grades and future jobs.
Teenagers have always had these problems, but young people today live in a world that is changing so fast. They will have too many choices. This can be good as it means more chances. But it can also be a bad thing as it may cause “mental internal friction (精神内耗)”.
Scientists say that “mental internal friction” happens when people have to think a lot in order to be able to move from “old ideas” to “new ideas”. They have to ask themselves such questions as “Are the new ideas good?” and “Will they make me feel happy?” It’s difficult to find the answers especially for young people. That’s because they are still too young to make the right choices. So they may feel tired, unhappy and even have trouble sleeping at night.
But don’t lose heart if you have these problems. There are some ways to solve them. First, you must know yourself. As Aristotle put it, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Second, develop new interests. A friend of mine decided to learn about Beijing Opera. He said that learning about “old things” made it easier for him to deal with the “new things” in modern life. The third thing you can do is spending time in nature. Connecting with nature can help you know yourself and make you feel relaxed.
( ) 26.What problem is talked about in the passage?
A. Teenagers’ mental internal friction.
B. Teenagers’ bad sleeping habits.
C. How to choose future jobs.
D. The fast changes of the world.
( ) 27. Why may too many choices bring teenagers trouble?
A. They have no time to study.
B. It may cause mental internal friction.
C. They will lose their interests.
D. They can’t get good grades at school.
( ) 28.What does the underlined sentence “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” mean?
A. Wisdom helps you know more people.
B. Knowing who you are is the start of wisdom.
C. You can get wisdom from old things.
D. It’s impossible for teens to know themselves.
( ) 29.What can we infer from the passage?
A. Old things are always better than new things.
B. Nature helps teenagers relax and know themselves.
C. Young people can easily make right choices.
D. Teenagers should refuse all new ideas.
( ) 30. How many ways does the writer give to solve teenagers’ problems?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.

Chinese scientists have developed a new technology that turns a dangerous waste gas (气体) into clean hydrogen fuel and pure sulfur (氢燃料和纯硫).
The gas is called hydrogen sulfide (硫化氢). It has a strong smell and is very bad for people, machines, and the environment. It comes from the process (过程) of getting oil, gas, and coal.
For many years, factories used an old method to handle this gas. It needs very high temperatures (over 1,200℃) and many steps, and it still leaves behind waste. It also wastes the hydrogen in the gas because it just turns the hydrogen into water instead of a useful fuel.
Now, a team led by Li Can, a scientist from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has found a better way. It does not need high temperatures. It uses electricity to break the dangerous gas down.
A test factory was built in Xinxiang, Henan Province. It has already used this technology to deal with the waste gas from a nearby factory. The test has been running for over 1,000 hours without stopping. The results are very good.
The new technology for dealing with hydrogen sulfide can produce very clean hydrogen fuel and sulfur. Both of these can be sold at good prices. Also, the equipment (设备) used is easy to move and takes up a little space, which makes it simple for factories to use.
China wants to cut pollution and build a greener future. This new technology could be a great help. In fact, it may make up 40% of China’s planned green hydrogen production by 2030.
Scientists hope the technology will be used in more factories soon.
( ) 31. How does the writer start the text?
A. By giving an example.
B. By making a comparison.
C. By showing a research result.
D. By introducing a kind of waste.
( ) 32. Which of the following can take the place of the underlined word “handle”?
A. Deal with. B. Stick to. C. Put off. D. Leave out.
( ) 33. How is the new method different from the old one?
A. It produces more water.
B. It needs more working steps.
C. It requires more hydrogen gas.
D. It uses electricity instead of high temperatures.
( ) 34. What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about?
A. Development of the new equipment.
B. Successful test of the new technology.
C. Running hours of the Xinxiang factory.
D. Different uses of hydrogen fuel and sulfur.
( ) 35. Why is this technology important for China’s future?
A. It makes factories smaller.

C. It helps protect the environment.
D. It saves a lot of money for people.

In old times, constellations were helpful to people in different ways. 39. People used the patterns of stars to find their way when they were travelling. They looked for certain constellations, like the Big Dipper or Orion, to guide them in the right direction.
Constellations also helped people understand the changing seasons. They noticed that certain constellations appeared in the sky during certain times of the year. For example, when they saw the constellation Orion, they knew that winter was coming. 40.
