You must have many textbooks. After students graduate old textbooks are thrown away, which is a big waste of money and paper.
According to a survey, students across the country buy 2.8 billion (十亿) new textbooks every year. If the following year’s students could reuse (再次使用) these textbooks, it would save over 20 billion yuan per year. That’s enough money to build 40,000 primary schools.
Primary and junior high school students in several Chinese cities are reusing music, art, science and IT textbooks. That’s because students don’t have to take notes in their textbooks for these subjects, which makes them possible for reusing. However, most of other textbooks still end up as waste. So we have to do something to stop it.
In fact, many countries already reuse their textbooks. In the US, book companies will come to schools and buy used books. They then resell them to new students the following year at a lower price. A high school textbook in the US can have up to eight owners before it is no longer in a good enough condition to be used. The books can then be recycled.

Lucas was quiet but very smart. Max was good at solving computer problems. Noah used a wheelchair, but he never let it slow him down.
One day at school, Ethan heard stories about a group of bullies (霸凌者) who did bad things to others.
It wasn’t long before Ethan first met the group. One afternoon, he stayed late to finish a project. As he was leaving the school, he saw the bullies were asking for some money from a younger student.
If the student refused, they would beat him. Ethan was scared, but he knew he should help. He shouted, “Leave him alone!” The bullies looked angry, but the younger kid quickly ran away. Soon the bullies left.
That evening, Ethan told his parents about the bullies, and they talked to his teachers. Ethan also shared his experience with his friends. “We’ll work together,” Noah said. The four friends then joined the school’s anti-bullying (反霸凌) groups to spread kindness.
By the end of the year, the bullies stopped troubling people. The school felt safer because students stood up for each other. On the last day, the friends smiled in celebration. “We did it together,” Lucas said.

Fan Zhongyan, from the Song Dynasty, was always hard-working, although he faced many ups and downs in his lifetime. One of his best sayings was, “Worry about the world before the world worries, and rejoice (深感欣喜) with the world after the world rejoices.” It means he cared about others before thinking of himself. He often gave away his money to help others, even if it meant his family sometimes had to go through hard times.
Fan was born in 989. Sadly, his father passed away when Fan was a baby. This sudden change turned his life upside down. His mother had difficulty making ends meet, so she married into a family named Zhu.
Near Zhu’s village, there was a tall mountain. Halfway up this mountain was a lovely temple (寺庙). Surrounded (环绕) by a forest, the temple was a peaceful location for thinking and learning, and it became a perfect place for people to study.
At about eleven or twelve, Fan went to the temple and borrowed a room to study. He made the most of his time there, studying day and night. During the cold winter months, when he was sleepy, he splashed (朝……上泼) his face with cold water to stay awake and kept reading. He ate two meals a day, and his meals were simple—just porridge and pickles (腌菜).

He ate two meals a day, and his meals were simple—just porridge and pickles (腌菜).
