Benjamin Franklin was an American thinker and inventor. He was interested in everyday problems and often asked questions about them. During thunderstorms, lightning could damage buildings and cause fires. Franklin wanted to understand it better.
He thought lightning was a form of electricity. The textbook picture shows a kite experiment with a metal key. The story connects a question about nature with an attempt to test an idea. We must never copy a thunderstorm experiment.
Franklin used his understanding of electricity to develop the lightning rod. It helped protect buildings from lightning damage. His work shows us a useful way to develop ideas: notice a problem, ask a question, test an idea safely, and think about how it can help people.
首听:Benjamin Franklin;lightning damage / fires;the lightning rod。四格:damaged buildings and caused fires;lightning was a form of electricity;the lightning rod;buildings from lightning damage。
T/I/N:a—T;b—N;c—T(末段明确提出用提问发展想法)。
与That’s amazing!
A: What problem do you want to solve?
B: Some students leave the taps on after washing their hands.
A: Really? What’s your idea?
B: We can put a reminder sign beside each tap.
A: How will that help?
B: Students may notice the sign before they leave.
A: What should the sign say?
B: “Please turn off the tap. Every drop counts!”
A: That sounds useful! How can we check it?
B: We can count running taps after each break for three days.
A: What can we compare that with?
B: The number from three days before we put up the signs.
示例:We can to put应改为We can put;because后补完整原因;不要把预计效果直接说成已测量的结果。
How will that help? / How can we check it?。
