A woman has been spotted leading a parade of animals down a street in Turkey — and the reasons behind it are just heart-warming. It may sound like the plot of a Disney movie, but the unknown woman is known to have been kindly feeding the homeless animals for years now.
A woman named Dilara first posted the animal rescuer on Twitter in 2017. Dilara had been staying at her mother’s house when she first saw the remarkable sight. There, on the street below, Dilara spotted a woman out walking. Surrounding the woman were dozens of animals of different kinds — cats, dogs and birds, all eagerly joining her as if in some grand parade. Dilara was astonished. Learning about the truth made that unusual sighting all the more astonishing. She said: “The moment I saw her walking like that, I thought she was a witch (巫师) or something. The scene was so poetic. I was amazed how beautiful what she was doing for these animals was.”
Then, a year later, Dilara saw the woman again, sharing another video on Twitter with the words: “We met again. I couldn’t go and talk, but we’ll meet you one day, Super Woman.” Later, Dilara posted an update that her mother had gone over to talk to the woman who was “pretty shy”. These parades, Dilara said, continue to this day. The woman’s work is hardly thankless, but she seems to prefer appreciation in the form of wagging tails and chirping (唧唧叫).
“My mom found her and talked to her but she was too shy to talk”, Dilara said, noting that the woman was not alone in her good work. “The streets are full of food left out for animals. It’s pretty common in Turkey actually. Everybody loves homeless animals here.” How lovely!
24. What did the unknown woman do to become well-known online?
A. She posted a remarkable sight. B. She acted in a famous Disney movie.
C. She took care of homeless animals. D. She trained animals to walk like a parade.
25. Why did Dilara think that the unknown woman was a witch or something?
A. She used her magic to save the animals.
B. Animals like cats and dogs always surround her.
C. She can always learn about the truth of unusual scenes.
D. The parade scene behind her was grand and unusual.
26. Which of the following can best describe the unknown woman?
A. Kind and selfless. B. Friendly and talkative.
C. Romantic and lovely. D. Hardworking and shy.
27. Where is the text probably from?
A. A guidebook. B. A news report. C. A novel. D. A diary.

Read Across America (RAA) is a day held annually on March 2nd that encourages children in every community to read and also encourages parents and teachers to celebrate the joy of reading. It’s a holiday that has been celebrated since 1998 and falls on the same day as children’s book author Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
This holiday dates back to May of 1997. This is when a small group of people at the National Education Association (NEA) came up with the idea to create a day of the year that celebrates reading among children. They reasoned that since many school football programs could get children engaged in the sport through pep rallies (鼓舞士气的集会), then why couldn’t the same thing be done for reading? So they decided to turn to a Read Across America program that was officially launched on March 2, 1998, and ever since it has continued to grow in size. Today, more than 50 national nonprofit and association sponsors and more than 3.3 million NEA members support the effort every year.
This holiday is celebrated in many ways. All over the country, libraries, schools and community centers hold special Read Across America events that promote reading in their communities. Teachers also develop special events on this day to encourage their students to read. The NEA also sponsors reading round tables and has an online store that allows people to buy everything they need for their RAA celebrations. This includes Dr. Seuss hats, RAA bookmarks, special RAA flash drives and even RAA mugs.
While recommended student reading lists vary from community to community, there are some books that always seem to pop up. Below is a partial list of some of the books read by elementary, middle school and high school students.
28. What inspired NEA to come up with RAA?
A. Millions of NEA members’ support. B. School football programs’ practice.
C. The NEA members’ love for reading. D. American local official’s encouragement.
29. The underlined word “sponsors” in Paragraph 2 most probably means ______.
A. supporters. B. participants. C. volunteers. D. visitors.
30. How do people celebrate Read Across America according to the text?
A. The NEA only holds reading round tables for local community members.
B. Schools organize football matches to get students interested in reading.
C. Teachers mainly sell various RAA products to their students at school.
D. Different public places hold activities and people can buy themed goods online.
31. What may be talked about following the last paragraph?
A. The promising future of RAA. B. The awards given to the children.
C. Student reading list recommended. D. Parents and teachers’ praise for the program.
【答案】28. B 29. A 30. D 31. C
【解析】

【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“Today, more than 50 national nonprofit and association sponsors and more than 3.3 million NEA members support the effort every year. (如今,每年有50多个全国性非营利组织及协会sponsors ,还有330多万NEA成员为此项活动提供支持。)”可知,and连接并列对象,“support (支持)”提示sponsors是提供支持的组织,与A选项supporters (支持者)意义相近。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“All over the country, libraries, schools and community centers hold special Read Across America events (全国各地的图书馆、学校以及社区中心都会举办特别的全美阅读日活动)”及“The NEA also sponsors reading round tables and has an online store that allows people to buy everything they need for their RAA celebrations. (NEA还主办阅读圆桌会,并且设有网上商店,人们可以在上面购买举办RAA庆祝活动所需的全部物品。)”可知,各地不同公共场所举办活动,人们还可以在线购买主题商品。
【31题详解】

Ancient English villagers who lived on platforms about six feet above a river enjoyed the high life, according to two new reports published by the University of Cambridge. The reports on “Mound Farm”, which was unearthed by the Cambridge Archaeological Unit (CAU), create an amazing image of household comfort there in the Late Bronze Age. Recording the range, scale, shape, and size of the settlement, it includes pictures of hundreds of objects used in daily life.
Archaeologists could reconstruct these households since the detailed “blueprint” was so readable due to the wetland location that preserved it. The site, about 75 miles northwest of London, got the “British Pompeii” name because after a fire about a year after the village was built, the platforms holding it sank into the river bed. Mud cushioned (起缓冲作用) and then conserved the platforms. The preserved items range from tools to foodstuffs.
It’s one of the largest national collections ever found in the U.K. from that period. Items include 128 pottery containers, 18,216 wooden beams, 155 pieces of burnt plant-fibre handiwork, 95 pieces of metalwork, etc. The items and the study paint a picture of folks who had adapted well to a challenging place to settle.
“These people were confident, skilled and gifted home builders. They had a design that worked beautifully for an increasingly drowned landscape,” report co-author Mark Knight said. That design focused on comfort. The round house roofs were insulated (隔热) with straw (稻草), topped with layers of grass, and waterproofed with clay. That combination kept the residents warm and dry, but still let fresh air in. “In a freezing winter, with winds cutting across the wetland, these round houses would have been pretty warm and comfortable,” says Chris Wakefield, CAU project archaeologist.
Over 50 archaeologists used a variety of scientific techniques to examine the items. And they determined that the village was relatively new, because much of the wood used to build it was still green. The archaeologists couldn’t determine how the fire started, but the details they gathered illustrated vividly how life was lived then.
32. Why is the unearthed site called “British Pompeii”?
A. It’s well maintained after a fire. B. It contained many handmade tools.
C. It was constructed in the mud. D. It was found in Europe.
33. What do we know about the found collections?
A. There were no objects made of metal.
B. Home builders then lacked creativity.
C. Ancient people ignored comfort then.
D. The houses then were built scientifically.
34. How did the archaeologists study the unearthed objects?
A. By turning to local villages for details.
B. By working with people of the same field.
C. By using advanced technological methods.
D. By restoring the round houses as told by locals.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. To introduce how archaeologists preserved ancient wooden structures in the UK.
B. To present the discovery and research of a well-preserved Bronze Age village.
C. To compare the differences between Must Farm and Italian Pompeii.
D. To prove ancient British villagers’ excellent house-building skills.
【答案】32. A 33. D 34. C 35. B

【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“The round house roofs were insulated (隔热) with straw (稻草), topped with layers of grass, and waterproofed with clay. That combination kept the residents warm and dry, but still let fresh air in(圆形房屋屋顶用稻草隔热,上铺多层草皮,并用黏土防水。这种构造让居住者保持温暖干燥,同时还能通入新鲜空气)”可知,当时的房屋建造方式科学合理。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Over 50 archaeologists used a variety of scientific techniques to examine the items(五十多名考古学家使用多种科学技术来研究这些物品)”可知,考古学家借助先进技术手段研究出土文物。

When I started my second year of high school, an exciting opportunity came my way: a year-long exchange program in Bath, England. The thought of studying abroad filled me with both excitement and anticipation (期盼). The chance to experience a new culture, improve my English, and make international friends seemed like a dream that comes true.
I managed to apply for a host family, read about rules and how to survive homesickness, and research about Bath on the Internet. With all preparations made, I was on a plane to Bath, my heart racing with a mix of eagerness and nerves.
Upon arrival, the picturesque city with its historic architecture and beautiful streets attracted me. My host family, Mr Smith, Mrs Smith, and their son Mark, welcomed me warmly, which immediately put me at ease. After my settlement at their home, I quickly found comfort in my new surroundings.
Then came my first week at school, which, however, turned out to be a whirlwind (一片忙乱) besides a feeling of freshness. The education system was different from what I was used to in my hometown. Classes were more discussion-based, and I was encouraged to express my opinions, which I wasn’t comfortable with at first. My teachers and classmates were friendly and curious about my background, often asking questions about my life in China. However, I struggled to keep up with the fast-paced (快节奏的) conversations. The British accent, with its unique slang (俚语), often made it hard for me to understand. There were moments in class when I felt lost, unable to fully understand the discussions or contribute meaningfully. This was frustrating (令人沮丧的), as I had always been a top student back home.
Along with the new experience at school, homesickness began to set in. I missed my family, friends, and the familiar rhythm of life back in China. The cultural differences, from food to social rules, made me hard to get used to at times. I found myself longing for a taste of my home, both physically and mentally.

【答案】参考范文:
Recognizing my struggle, people around me stepped in to support me. On weekends, Mrs Smith would take me on a trip to many attractions, some even I had only read about in textbooks. Mrs Smith went out of her way to make me feel at home by cooking Chinese dishes. Mike shared his own experiences of studying abroad to comfort me. At school, my teachers were patient and understanding, offering extra help with assignments and encouraging me to join clubs to make new friends. My classmates invited me to see movies, play hockey, and go to concerts. Everyone was warm, open, and never hesitant in offering help.
Gradually, I began to adapt to (适应) the life here. I offered to share Chinese culture with my host family. I joined the school’s debate club, which helped me improve my English and gain confidence in speaking. I also participated in a local volunteer group, where I met people from different backgrounds, each with their own unique stories. These experiences broadened my perspective and helped me feel more connected to my new environment. As the months passed, Bath began to feel like a second home. I developed a close connection with people here that I knew would last a lifetime.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;
