Dear Chris,
You wrote you wondered how to organize a Chinese calligraphy exhibition. Now I'm writing to offer
you some advice to make it engaging.
The theme "The Art of Chinese Characters:A Brush with Culture"would be a good choice to convey
the visual beauty and cultural depth of calligraphy. For the activities, you could display the development of
Chinese characters and invite a calligrapher to deliver a speech about the art of calligraphy.Hands-on
activities for visitors to try writing with brushes and ink could be also perfect.
I believe your exhibition will be both educational and enjoyable. Please feel free to contact me if you
need more help.(109 words)
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节:读后续写(25分)
Paragraph 1:Hearing my foot tapping,Mom walked in.Glancing at my Hamlet handout and worried
face,she knew everything."We don't hide anymore.You can make it,"she said,her steady voice calming
me.I nodded gently. Then we broke the soliloquy into short lines and circled hard sounds.Grandma settled
beside us.When I got stuck, she smiled and waited.I used Mr.K's methods-stretch the sounds and keep
eye contact, first with the mirror, then with Mom and Grandma.I recorded, replayed and tried again.
Gradually,I could recite the lines fluently. On recital day,my classmates went up one by one. Some did a
good job.Others forgot parts or trembled through it.
Paragraph 2:When my turn came,I took a deep breath and stood up.I walked to the front and faced
the class.I can do this,just like I practiced."To be,or not to be."I started to speak.My hands shook.The
words came out shaky at first. Then,I delivered them louder and stronger.I imagined myself speaking to
Mom,Grandma,and Mr.K,and kept going.Before I knew it,my speech was over.I smiled as the class
clapped.They cheered everyone,but I had a special reason to feel good.I faced my fear.I knew I'd have
other battles with stuttering, but 1 won that day.I finally found my voice.

Two years ago,my son sat me down for a talk."Mom,it's time,"he said."Hear me out:It's
time we got actual TV.And you need an iPhone."
This funny conversation two years ago marked a change in our relationship.Perhaps for the
first time,I began to really listen to John's opinion about our home technology.Since his reasoning
was sound and his suggestions were within budget,I took his advice and was pleasantly surprised
with the results.
I'd known for a while that my son understands technology better than I do.On airplanes,he
grabbed my phone to put it in airplane mode.He wired the speakers in our house. After something
was stolen from our front yard,he picked out,set up,and now monitors our security camera. When
my computer died,I took him shopping with me.
He has a busy social life, with skateboarding, basketball, and online gaming.I see our time
together reducing and our shared interests decreasing. That's why I jumped at the chance when a
friend mentioned writing technology reviews. When I presented the idea to my teen,he
immediately accepted.
It has changed our relationship in surprising ways.Where he used to get annoyed quickly at
my technical ignorance,he has learned to be more patient and explain things to me in a way that I
can convey to an equally unknowing audience. The parent-child dynamic is not only changed;it's
even slightly reversed ()He's leading me.I'm asking him for help and advice
My son has risen to the occasion. He's taking it seriously, and to watch him mature in this way
is an honor. As someone not much of a reader,he now searches instruction booklets.Without any
reminders,he has even emailed and called-yes,made an actual phone call-to customer service
or tech support when products weren't working as expected.
I never imagined being a tech reviewer, but it's proved to be a valuable way to learn from,
work with, and enjoy time with my teen.
24.What does the underlined word"sound"in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Common.
B.Reasonable
C.Quick
D.Simple.
25.What does the mother imply about John's tech?
A.John's tech skills are advanced for his age.
B.She has long recognized John's tech ability.
C.She feels ashamed of her poor tech knowledge
D.John is more reliable than others in tech matters.
26.How has John's character changed?
A.More stubborn and impatient.
B.More careless and lazier.
C.More thoughtful and responsible
D.More confident and optimistic.
27.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.A teen's excellent talent in modern technology.
B.Home technology's great importance in daily life
C.A mother's experience oflearning tech from her son.
D.Mother-son relationship improvement via tech reviews

It is well known that birds start their day very early. However,a new scientific study shows
that light pollution is making them wake up even earlier and go to sleep later. On average, bright
nights are taking away about 50 minutes of sleep from birds every day.
To investigate how light pollution affects birds'sleep patterns,Dr.Brent Pease,in his research
at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, engaged his students with the sounds of wildlife. To
achieve this,he used a BirdWeather device called a PUC,which captures bird songs and uses
artificial intelligence to recognize the species. This device also collects data on weather and
location, which is shared online. As a result,BirdWeather now has nearly 1.4 billion bird songs
recorded,a valuable resource for studying wildlife behavior.
The researchers examined how light pollution, which affects about 23%of the planet,
influences bird activity. They analyzed over 60 million calls from 583 bird species typically active
during daylight.By comparing these calls with satellite data on light pollution, they found that
brighter urban areas lead to earlier morning songs and lengthened singing at night.
Particularly, birds with larger eyes, like American robins and European goldfinches, were
most affected.Dr.Neil Gilbert from Oklahoma State University noted that some birds sing up to
two hours before sunrise in polluted regions.Researchers are concerned about the harm to birds'
biological clocks.Though it remains uncertain if this harms their long-term health-they may
adapt to brighter nights-the study confirms city lights have subtle but real effects on nature
This research helps us understand how human activities quietly change wildlife behavior.
To address the issue of light pollution, communities can take several steps.Actions such as
replacing present streetlights with motion-sensor ones,using lower-intensity lighting,and carrying
out"dark skyprojects can significantly reduce unnecessary artificial light. These measures could
help protect birds'natural sleep cycles, ensuring that birds can live and reproduce despite
urbanization ()Both individuals and local governments can work together to create
environments that are safer for wildlife and more harmonious with nature.
28.Where is the text most probably taken from?
A.A scientific research report.
B.A student's lab journal
C.A bird-watching handbook.
D.A biology learning textbook
29.How does the Bird Weather device assist the research?
A.By predicting birds'behaviors.
B.By building a bird songs database.
C.By monitoring weather conditions.
D.By measuring light pollution levels.
30.What can be concluded about the study?
A.Humans change birds'habitats
B.Light pollution harms birds'health
C.Large-eyed birds can't adapt to light.
D.Human activities impact wildlife behavior.
高一英语第5页共10页
31.What is the last paragraph mainly talking about?
A.Harm of artificial light to urban birds
B.Benefits of dark sky projects for wildlife.
C.Measures to reduce light pollution's effect on birds
D.Environmental protection required by ubanization.

Language shapes how we understand the world, especially when we talk about brain diseases
like autism and ADHD.The way we discuss differences in brain development influences
how people see themselves and how they get help.Clear language lays a strong foundation for
accurate communication about brain-related differences, while unclear language can lead to
misunderstandings about the natural differences in brain function and structure.
One important term is‘eurodiversity(神经多样性)”.Many people wrongly use
"neurodiverse"to describe individuals,saying things like"that child is neurodiverse".However,
this term refers to a larger group or population, not just one person.Just like no single species can
speak for biodiversity(生物多样性),no one can cover the entire range of brain differences。
The ter "neurodiversity"came up in the 1990s and shows that different brain functions are
natural, not diseases. This idea aims to empower people, despite some concerns about getting
medical support.Over time,ADHD and other conditions have been included in this term.
Today, neurodivergent conditions are viewed as very different from the "typical"brain,
known as"neurotypical".This creates two groups:neurodivergent and neurotypical.However,no
brain is truly typical,as even those without a diagnosis()may have unique thinking patterns
that do not fit common ones. The term neurotypical can also have negative meanings in some
neurodivergent communities, reflecting their shame. While this reaction is understandable,it risks
repeating harmful fixed ideas. Therefore, clearer language is needed.Neurodiversity should
include all types of brain differences. Some people's brains work very differently from others and
should be referred to as"neurodivergent",while"not neurodivergent"is more suitable for others.
This well-explained language is key.The words we use affect more than just identity, they
impact whether they can get help, research funding, and public understanding.Unclear terms can
strengthen harmful fixed ideas or images and lower the seriousness of conditions like ADHD.By
using clear and respectful language,we can improve discussions and results for everyone involved
in brain issues.
32.Why is clear language considered essential in discussing neurodiversity?
A.It unifies different communities.
B.It promotes understanding and support
C.It increases funding in medical care.
D.It limits misunderstandings about diseases.
33.Why did the author mention biodiversity?
高一英语第6页共10页
A.To show neurodiversity refers to groups.
B.To define the meaning of neurodiversity.
C.To claim brain differences are diseases.
D.To improve public understanding of biology
34.What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?
A.Neurotypical brains are superior.
B.Neurodivergent people feel ashamed.
C.Neurotypical is negative in some groups.
D.Neurodivergent people lack unique thinking
35.What would be the best title for this passage?
A.Neurodiversity:Its Origin and Development
B.Neurodiversity:A New Way to Treat Brain Diseases
C.Proper Language:Solve Problems of Neurodiversity
D.Accurate Language:Key in Discussing Neurodiversity
