Luck is one of those things that’s hard to put a nriger on. It’s more than lucky numbers and good luck plants. “Although luck is often defined as a good or bad outcome caused by chance, the idea of luck is most often used in the context of outcomes that are not completely due to chance, like sports outcomes, work outcomes or financial outcomes,” says educational psychologist and motivation expert Martin Ford, PhD. “Essentially, luck is a force used to explain unexpected successes and failures when the usual explanations do not seem sufficient.”
Can you make your own luck? Absolutely. And a lot of it has to do with changing your own scenery both mentally and physically and putting yourself in more advantageous situations. “Success comes about from a number of factors,” says Barbara Becker Holstein, a positive psychologist and author of The Enchanted Self: A Positive Therapy.
Experts agree that there are many paths toward better luck, but there is one concept that surely will allow good fortune to find you: “Live a life that allows you to move-forward,” says Holstein. And here’s how to do that.
Ford says that it’s just not true that some people are born lucky. “Luck is not a mysterious superpower,” he says. “People are born with different developmental potentials and vulnerabilities (脆弱性) with regard to what naturally motivates them, what kinds of skills are easier or harder to develop, the kinds of environments in which they live and learn and their biological strengths and weaknesses.”
The challenge of making your own luck can be an easier journey for some than others — particularly for those who weren’t born with many biological advantages. But it’s still attainable for everyone. “Success involves four intertwined elements: motivation, knowledge and skills, a responsive environment and sound biological functioning,” says Ford.
24. What question does the first paragraph answer?
A. What is luck? B. What can luck do?
C. How is luck made? D. How important is luck?
25. What advice would experts give about luck?
A. Luck finds you, not you find luck. B. Living environment really counts.
C. Everyone is born with similar luck. D. You can find the same way to luck.
26. What can we infer from the text about luck?
A. Never care about luck. B. Every dog has its day.
C. Accept luck and change it. D. Well begun is half done.
27. What will the writer probably continue to write?
A. Provide a right understanding of luck. B. Prove some wrong ideas of luck.
C. Introduce the right attitude toward luck. D. Give specific tips on how to make luck.

Hua Mengli was born in 1995 in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. In 2010, Hua’s father rented more than 13.3 hectares of land in a village. He used the land for conventional farming. However, a lack of innovation made it hard for him to run the farm. In the hope of saving her father’s farm, Hua in 2013 enrolled in Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry and majored in horticultural (园艺) technology.
After her graduation in 2016, Hua and four like-minded friends joined her father’s farm. Almost immediately, they had to deal with poor sales. After visiting various markets, they realized they had to innovate their farming techniques. They spent the next 11 months transforming the farm into an ecological circular agriculture base. The transformation was a turning point; since then, the farm has generated an output value of 32 million yuan annually.
As part of her farm management, Hua has focused on technological innovation and application. In 2018, some farmers’ strawberry seedlings died, which resulted in massive losses. Hua decided to identify the cause. She spent three months testing hundreds of formulas, until she found the right culture medium formula for strawberry seedlings. She helped the farmers avoid future losses, and she improved both strawberry yield and quality.
Hua has not hesitated to share the technologies she has developed with other farmers. She organized a team to provide assistance and technical guidance to farmers. The team is composed of 49 young graduates, all of whom majored in agriculture. She has also provided technological training to more than 22,000 people, supported more than 700 farmers in growing crops and helped farmers increase their incomes by a combined 120 million yuan.
When asked about her plans for the future, Hua says, “I am willing to put down roots in the countryside, and to work in the fields. Rural areas have great potential, and agriculture will thrive. I will lead farmers and more young people to advance rural revitalization (振兴).”
28. What can be learned about Hua’s father’s farm?
A. It mainly grew strawberries. B. It improved after technical reform.
C. It earned big profits at first. D. It got government financial support.
29. What was the purpose of Hua’s experiments on formulas?
A. To solve a crop crisis. B. To develop new varieties.
C. To expand small farms. D. To advertise farmers’ products.
30. What does Hua’s words in the last paragraph imply?
A. She wants to adjust her business goals. B. She plans to live and work in cities.
C. She holds faith in rural agriculture. D. She intends to increase crop output.
31. How does the author present Hua Mengli’s story in the passage?
A. By showing different farming styles. B. By comparing her with other local farmers.
C. By introducing past farming history. D. By describing problems and her solutions.

When you’re a teacher, a big part of your job is battling student misconceptions. Often students come to the classroom believing that learning can’t be fun and that what they learn isn’t relevant to the real world — much less to their personal interests. I’ve discovered that if I show students how what they learn is relevant to my hobbies, they’re much more willing to make connections to their personal interests and develop their own hobbies.
No matter what subject I’m teaching, I find ways to bring my hobbies into the classroom. For example, I’m a car enthusiast, so when I teach physics, I contextualize concepts with my knowledge about cars. If we’re covering friction, for example, I bring different tires (轮胎) into my classroom so that my students can conduct lab experiments with them to see how friction works in real-life applications.
When I first brought my hobbies to my classroom, I was focused on how doing so would build engagement and help my students understand concepts in science. But I quickly learned that the practice also helped me build stronger relationships with them. When I let them see an aspect of my life outside of school, some students who were also interested in cars connected with me more and became more engaged in my courses. Even those who didn’t share that interest with me seemed more engaged once I showed a different side of myself.
What started as an experiment is now more of a philosophy. Even when I’m planning classes, I tend to think about how I can bring in my hobbies. I find that doing so energizes my instruction, engages my students, and demonstrates to them how abstract concepts play out in the real world. Best of all, my passion for my hobbies seems to inspire them to be passionate about finding their own.
32. What poses a challenge to teachers according to the author?
A. Students’ misunderstandings about teachers.
B. Students’ false assumptions about learning.
C. The irrelevance of textbooks to students’ life.
D. The gap between teachers’ and students’ hobbies.
33. Why does the author bring tires into the classroom?
A. To teach an engineering skill. B. To explain the structure of a car.
C. To share a real-life experience. D. To illustrate a scientific concept.
34. What was the unexpected outcome of the author’s teaching method?
A. A higher class attendance rate. B. Better examination results.
C. A closer teacher-student bond. D. More spare time for students.
35. Which of the following best describes the author as a teacher?
A. Innovative. B. Humorous. C. Decisive. D. Sympathetic.

Lily and I were huge Harry Potter fans. Since third grade, we had spent our lunch breaks pretending to fly on paper broomsticks (扫帚) and dreaming about receiving our own acceptance letters from Hogwarts. So when Lily showed me her most treasured book — a first-edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone passed down from her aunt — my eyes widened in amazement. It wasn’t just a book. It was a passport to our magical world.
After weeks of begging, she finally agreed to lend it to me. “Please be careful with it,” she said as she handed it over.
I held it tightly against my chest and promised, “I’ll guard it with my life!”
But that promise lasted only three hours.
On my way home, I held the book close, protecting it from the rain with my umbrella. Suddenly, a car drove through a puddle (水坑) nearby. I jumped back in surprise, and the book slipped from my hands. It fell right into the muddy water. I grabbed it immediately, my heart racing. The beautiful cover was now spotted with mud. When I opened it, my stomach dropped. There, on our favorite picture of Harry flying on his broomstick, was a tear running right through his broom.
That night, I couldn’t sleep. I kept staring at the damaged page, feeling terrible. Part of me wanted to lie and blame a runaway dog. Maybe Lily would believe me. But deep down, I knew that running away from my mistake wouldn’t make it disappear — not the tear in the book, and not the guilt in my heart.
So I decided to fix the book the way Lily would like: with a bit of magic. What if the tear wasn’t just a tear, but a line of shining light? I pulled out my toolbox, found a gold pen, and took out some Harry Potter stickers I had been saving for years. My eyes landed on one particular sticker — a broomstick with wings. What if that broomstick had been flying beside Harry all along?
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
With these ideas in mind, I opened the book to the damaged page.

A 25. B 26. C 27. D

根据第一段中的““Although luck is often defined as a good or bad outcome caused by chance, the idea of luck is most often used in the context of outcomes that are not completely due to chance, like sports outcomes, work outcomes or financial outcomes,” says educational psychologist and motivation expert Martin Ford, PhD. (“尽管运气通常被定义为由偶然性导致的好或坏的结果,但‘运气’这一概念最常用于那些并非完全由偶然性决定的情境中,比如体育比赛结果、工作成果或财务状况,”教育心理学家兼动机专家马丁·福特博士说道。)”可知,第一段通过专家的定义和解释探讨了运气的本质,由此可知,第一段回答了“什么是运气”的问题。故选A项。

B 33. D 34. C 35. A

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
With these ideas in mind, I opened the book to the damaged page.

With these ideas in mind, I opened the book to the damaged page. My hands trembled slightly as I took out the gold pen. Meticulously, I traced the tear, transforming it into a delicate line that seemed to radiate a faint magical glow. Then, with utmost care, I peeled off the winged broomstick sticker. I thoughtfully positioned it right beside Harry’s torn broom, making it appear as though a companion broom was soaring alongside him. The page, though once damaged, now held a unique, artistic touch, a testament to my anxious hope.
The next morning, I walked up to Lily with the book in my hands. My stomach churned with a mix of apprehension and a strange sense of courage. “Lily,” I confessed, my voice barely a whisper, “I made a terrible mistake. I damaged your precious book.” I held out the open page. Her eyes widened, first in shock, then slowly, a look of utter amazement replaced it. She leaned closer “It’s… it’s incredible! It’s like a secret charm, making it even more special,” she breathed, a warm smile gracing her lips. In that moment, our shared love for magic and our friendship felt stronger than any tear.
