In China today, an increasing number of young people are rediscovering the past — not just by visiting museums and historical sites, but by trying their best to restore ancient items. These young restorers are quietly breathing new life into ancient treasures that might be lost.
Xie Li, an excellent restorer at the Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan Province, is part of this growing group. Born in the 1990s, she has spent 11 years on the work of repairing and seen the change of the field over the past ten years. “When I was a student, only one or two out of a class of 70 or 80 would go into heritage work,” Xie said. “Now, in a class of about a hundred, nearly half are choosing this.”
For Xie, working on what she loves brings her a deep sense of satisfaction. “Every time I finish restoring an item, I feel so excited, as if I’ve brought it back to life,” she said. Recently, Xie won second prize for her work on a bronze mask (青铜面具) in the 2025 National Cultural Heritage Vocational Skills Competition. The competition brought together restorers born from the 1960s to the 2000s. It’s surprising that there are more young restorers taking part in the competition.
Young people’s growing interest in traditional culture plays a key role in such a change. At the same time, China has placed growing importance on protecting cultural heritage, creating a strong need for skilled restorers. As a country rich in cultural heritage, China is home to a huge number of cultural treasures, with a lot of them still waiting for restoration.
16.How does the writer introduce the topic of the passage?
A.By listing different opinions. B.By describing a fact.
C.By telling his experience. D.By raising a question.
17.Why did the writer mention the 2025 National Cultural Heritage Vocational Skills Competition?
A.To explain why Xie Li enjoys her job so much.
B.To tell us what excellent work Xie Li has done.
C.To explain some new training methods for restorers.
D.To show young people’s growing interest in heritage work.
18.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.China is in need of more young restorers
B.Young Chinese take up cultural heritage work
C.Museums are trying to protect ancient treasures
D.More young Chinese appear in museums
【答案】16.B 17.D 18.B

18.通读全文,文章主要讲述越来越多中国年轻人从事文物修复工作,所以最佳标题为“Young Chinese take up cultural heritage work”。

Why can’t we? Nobody was born to be poor.” The villagers decided to make a difference. They carried water and soil (土壤) to their village from faraway places to improve their land. They opened lots of land for growing crops and set up some factories. Their lives were greatly improved.
However, the village faced a new problem twenty years later. Pollution was a problem then. The leaders of the village decided to take action to improve the situation. Some polluting factories were shut down. Villagers started to grow grapes and melons. They soon became the main industry in Sunshine Village.
The village started a yearly tourism (观光) festival in 2016. Many travelers came to pick grapes and melons. “The grapes and melons could be sold at a better price. As Sunshine Village becomes famous through this festival, we can then live even better lives,” the villagers said with a smile.

Young people in China are showing off their style with fun bag charms (包挂). These small decorations hang from backpacks and swing as people walk. They help young people show who they are and create a new way of emotional (情感的) connection.
There are all kinds of these bag charms. Some are soft, plush toys, while others get ideas from traditional Chinese culture or museum pieces. For example, Xi’an Momo Dolls and Sanxingdui’s Bronze Mask series reimagine traditional elements (元素) into new forms. These China—chic” designs turn bag charms into cultural bridges between the past and present.
These charms offer more than just a decorative touch; they play a key role in breaking the ice among strangers. A shared charm can help people connect with just a smile. As the Chinese New Year came near, Vicky, who lives in Nanjing, bought clothes not just for her family, but for her charms.”I match charms to my mood and clothes,” she explains. “Sometimes they feel like emotional codes—shared understanding brings quick connections at once.”
The charms have become popular because of the new and better ways of making them in places like Guangdong. Dongguan, known as the “designer toy capital”, has thousands of factories using smart technology to create new designs quickly. Today, these charms are reshaping the international image of “Made in China” by telling stories based on local creativity. These small items are building emotional ties with customers around the world and showing special Eastern beauty.
A Grade—10 student from Nanjing shared her thoughts. “Every time I see the same charm on a stranger’s backpack, it feels like discovering a tiny bridge linking two unknown hearts.” Dr Zhang, a teacher from Guangdong University of Finance & Economics, also put forward his view.”If fashionable small goods rush into teenagers’ daily life endlessly, will the nice glow of such lovely accessories (配饰) finally change into meaningless desire (渴求)?”

A.Secret marks on the outside of little charms.
B.Similar items building emotional communication.
C.Personal notes used to follow one’s changing moods.
D.Small decorations made carefully to go with clothes.
29.What helps charms gain worldwide popularity?
A.Unique beauty of Eastern culture. B.Rich kinds of soft plush toy designs.
C.New tech and Chinese creativity. D.Popular New—Year shopping traditions.
30.What is Dr Zhang’s attitude (态度) towards bag charms?
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Negative. D.Curious.

【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍中国年轻人流行的包挂,介绍了包挂的种类、文化意义、社交作用,它走红的原因,同时提及人们对此的不同看法。
【详解】27.第二段举例:“Xi’an Momo Dolls and Sanxingdui’s Bronze Mask series reimagine traditional elements into new forms. These China—chic” designs turn bag charms into cultural bridges between the past and present.”,这说明三星堆青铜面具包挂是把传统文化重新设计,变成新潮的商品。
28.第三段提到:“Sometimes they feel like emotional codes—shared understanding brings quick connections at once.”,破折号后解释,相同的包挂带来共鸣,建立情感交流,所以“emotional codes”指“可以建立情感沟通的同类物件”。

Young people in China are showing off their style with fun bag charms (包挂). These small decorations hang from backpacks and swing as people walk. They help young people show who they are and create a new way of emotional (情感的) connection.

As the Chinese New Year came near, Vicky, who lives in Nanjing, bought clothes not just for her family, but for her charms.”I match charms to my mood and clothes,” she explains. “Sometimes they feel like emotional codes—shared understanding brings quick connections at once.”
