Nearly four months after returning to Earth, an astronaut from China’s Shenzhou-21 mission, still remembered the sweet corn cake she shared with her teammates on the Tiangong space station. She told a newspaper reporter on Tuesday that the cake was made by a new space oven which kept the food warm without burning it.
Before leaving the station, the three astronauts had a small “space tea party”. They used a cup that could hold liquid in mid-air. Wang said they put the corn cake on a plate and watched it float slowly. “We just sat together and smiled,” she said.
“The cake was soft and tasted a little like honey,” She recalled. “It was not magic fruit from old stories, but it felt special because we were 400 kilometres above the Earth. I ate so slowly that I tried to remember every bite.”
Is space corn cake the same as that on Earth? She laughed and said, “Not really. On Earth, the cake gets dry fast. In space, the water stays inside, so every piece is fresh. Of course, sitting with two friends and looking at the blue Earth also made it better.”
Many young people watched the interview online. They left messages with hungry emojis. Some joked that the astronauts should open a “space kitchen show”. China stops food delivery (递送) wars
China’s government is stepping in to control fierce (激烈的) competition between three big food delivery companies: JD.com Ele. me. These companies fighting for more customers by offering huge discounts and special benefits, causing problems in the market.
The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), China’s top market regulator, recently held a meeting with these companies. They warned them to follow laws about fair competition, online business, and food safety. The government wants to protect customers, restaurants, and delivery workers.
The competition started in February 2025 when JD.com entered the food delivery market. To attract workers, JD promised full-time riders social insurance and housing funds Currently, Meituan and Ele. me control 98% of the market together. To fight back, Meituan said it would also pay social insurance for riders, while Ele. me launched a “Billion-Yuan Subsidy” program with big discounts.
The companies even copied each other’s services. Meituan created a new “Flash Sale” platform, and Alibaba’s Ele. me expanded its one-hour delivery service nationwide. Sometimes, the competition turned ugly. JD.com accused (控告) Meituan of forcing riders to reject JD’s orders, making some riders lose 16-25% of their income. Meituan denied (否认) this.
China’s tech companies often use price wars and subsidies (补贴) to beat competitors. The government has fined big companies like Alibaba and Meituan in recent years to keep the market fair. Experis say heavy discounts work when a market is growing, but now they might harm the industry. Customers might only care about low prices, and restaurants could lower food quality to save money.

A.Restaurants will improve food quality quickly
B.Customers will care more about low prices than quality
C.Delivery riders will get higher salaries
D.The market will grow healthily
39.What does Zhang Yi, the market analyst, think about price wars?
A.They are necessary for market growth.
B.They benefit both companies and customers.
C.They harm the industry in the long term.
D.They should be supported by the government
40.What is the main purpose of the article?
A.To explain how food delivery companies make money.
B.To compare the working conditions of delivery riders.

Others wrote proudly, “When the cake stays soft on the silver plate, it is not only ▲ . It also shows that China’s space program has brought the warmth of daily life to outer space.”
