When 16-year-old Wang Lin from Beijing first saw a shadow puppet show at the age of seven, she was fascinated. The colourful puppets and the performers’ skilled finger movements seemed magical to her. “I felt really close to this art right away,” she says.
However, when Wang Lin entered high school, things changed. Her classmates thought puppetry was old-fashioned and made fun of her hobby. “They said it was for old people, not for teenagers,” she recalls. Slowly, Wang Lin felt less close to puppetry and stopped practising for almost two years.
Last summer, Wang Lin attended a traditional culture camp in her city. There, she met 70-year-old Master Chen, a famous puppet performer. “Puppetry is not just an art — it carries our history and stories,” Master Chen told the teenagers. “If you give it a chance, it will speak to you.”
Master Chen’s words touched Wang Lin deeply. She started practising again, this time with more passion than ever. She also used social media to share videos of her performances. To her surprise, many of her classmates started showing interest. “Now they think it’s pretty cool!” she says happily.
Wang Lin now leads a teenage puppet team at her school. “It’s our duty to keep this art alive,” she says. “Puppetry is not old-fashioned at all. It’s amazing, and everyone can feel close to it if they try.”

My name is Derick. Last Saturday, I was at Tom’s house, playing games with my friends. We were having a great time until Jake, one of my friends, mentioned “Space”, which is one of my favorite games. “Oh, that game is a waste of time,” Jake said. The others agreed. I love that game, but I didn’t want to argue, so I just went along with them.
As we moved onto another game, I felt a strange mix of feelings. I had just experienced peer (同龄人) pressure. It felt like I had to agree with my friends, even if it meant ignoring (忽略) what I truly enjoyed. It was a bit uncomfortable.
Later, I thought about what Dr. Casey had said: Teens make good decisions alone but can be influenced in social situations. Teens might have trouble in controlling risky behavior around friends or when angry. It made sense. I realized I needed to care more about my decisions.
But I also remembered the positive side. My friend Sarah had invited me to volunteer at an animal center. At first, I was not sure about that, but I ended up loving it. And when my friends study hard, it encourages me, too. True friends encourage each other to do good things.
I decide that while I’m influenced by those around me, the final decision is mine. I need to recognize good peer pressure from bad and learn to deal with it. I want to stand up for what I believe in, even if it means going against the group sometimes. It’s not easy, but it’s important.
47.Why did Derick agree with his friends about the game “Space”?
A.To avoid arguing. B.To change the subject.
C.To support Jake’s opinion. D.To show he disliked the game.
48.How did Derick feel after he agreed with his friends?
A.Sorry. B.Excited.
C.Uncomfortable. D.Embarrassed.
49.Put the following events about Derick into the correct order according to the passage.
a. He felt peer pressure.
b. He played games with his friends.
c. He thought about Dr. Casey’s words.
d. He decides to stand up for what he believes in.
A.a-b-c-d B.a-c-b-d C.a-b-d-c D.b-a-c-d
50.In which part of the magazine could we read the passage?
A.Music and Movies. B.Teenager Life.
C.Natural World. D.Amazing Animals.
51.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.A Day at Tom’s House. B.My Experience with Peer Pressure.
C.The Joys of Gaming with Friends. D.The Power of Positive Friendship.
【答案】47.A 48.C 49.D 50.B 51.B
【导语】本文讲述了作者在和朋友玩游戏时经历同龄人压力后的反思与成长,以及他决定坚持自我信念的过程。

How much pocket money did you get when you were young? Did you get a fixed (固定的) amount every week, or only get money sometimes for doing housework? Parents around the world have different opinions on pocket money. However, it’s important to help kids develop good money habits with pocket money.
In fact, pocket money is a good way to teach children simple money skills. It lets kids know that money is not endless and helps them plan how to spend money and make wise choices. Maybe they can save for weeks to buy things they really want. Small spending mistakes at a young age help kids manage money better as adults.
Many parents give pocket money as a reward for doing housework or behaving well. This tells children that hard work brings good results. Experts say making money by themselves makes kids more independent (独立的) and brings them lasting happiness, not just quick joy.
Nowadays, most parents give pocket money online. Luckily, useful phone apps can record kids’ pocket money costs clearly. With these tools, parents can guide children to check daily costs and manage their pocket money well.

AI toys: safe for kids?
Imagine a cute cat doll talking to you, or a small robot ready to play Chinese chess. These “smart” toys use artificial intelligence (AI). They are quickly becoming popular around the world.
AI toys may change how kids grow up. They can help all children be able to get their own teachers, classes and games.
However, there are problems. AI toys can sometimes be bad for children. For example, FoloToy’s “Kumma” bear, an AI toy, told children where to find dangerous things. AI toys may also stop kids from hearing different ideas. What’s worse, AI “friends” never criticize (批评) or share their own feelings. This might make it hard for kids to talk and work with real people.
Because of this, people are calling for stricter rules. For example, only kids over a certain age can use or play with AI toys by themselves. At the same time, they suggest that parents should think carefully before trusting their children to a machine.
67.AI toys are quickly around the world.
68.AI toys may change according to the writer.
69.However, there are about AI toys.
70.For kids, it might be hard to .
71.People suggest that before their children use AI toys.
【答案】67.becoming popular 68.how kids grow up 69.problems 70.talk and work with real people 71.parents should think carefully
原文第一段末尾明确写道“They are quickly becoming popular around the world.”它们正在世界各地迅速变得流行。因此答案可为becoming popular。
68.原文第二段第一句“AI toys may change how kids grow up.”AI玩具可能改变孩子们的成长方式。因此答案可为how kids grow up。
69.原文第三段开头“However, there are problems.”然而,有问题。因此答案可为problems。
70.原文第三段末尾“This might make it hard for kids to talk and work with real people.”这可能会使孩子们难以与真实的人交谈和合作。因此答案可为talk and work with real people。
71.文章最后一句“they suggest that parents should think carefully before trusting their children to a machine.”他们建议父母在把孩子托付给机器之前应该仔细考虑。因此答案可为parents should think carefully。

How much pocket money did you get when you were young?Did you get a fixed amount every
week,or only get money sometimes for doing housework?Parents around the world have different opinions on

buy things they really want.Small spending mistakes at a young age help kids manage money better as adults.
Many parents give pocket money as a reward for doing housework or behaving well. This tells children that
hard work brings good results.Experts say making money by themselves makes kids more independent (

A.Sorry. B.Excited.
C.Uncomfortable. D.Embarrassed.

b. He played games with his friends.

50.In which part of the magazine could we read the passage?
