In the coastal village of Dongshan, Fujian Province, a 76-year-old grandmother has become an unlikely internet sensation. Lin Aihua, a retired primary school teacher, spends her afternoons teaching local children the ancient art of puppet(木偶) play — a tradition that has been passed down in her family for five generations. But what sets Lin apart is how she has adapted the craft to the digital age.
Three years ago, Lin noticed that her grandchildren were more fascinated by short videos than by her wooden puppets. Rather than lamenting the lost attention span of the younger generation, she decided to meet them where they were. With the help of her grandson, a college student majoring in media studies, Lin began filming short tutorials demonstrating puppet-making techniques and storytelling performances. The videos, rarely more than three minutes long, blend traditional folklore(民间故事) with modern visual effects — a puppet of the Monkey King might appear to leap across the screen, or a legendary heroine might speak in catchy rhymes that resonate with young viewers.
The response was overwhelming. Within six months, Lin's channel had accumulated over two million followers, many of them teenagers and young adults. More importantly, offline interest surged. "Children who first discovered puppets through my videos now come to my workshop," Lin says with a smile. "They bring their parents, who often grew up watching puppet shows but had almost forgotten about them. It has become a family activity."
Lin's approach challenges the prevailing narrative that tradition and technology are natural enemies. "Culture is not a museum piece behind glass," she explains. "It is a living river. If the river is to keep flowing, it must find new channels."
Local authorities have taken notice. The county government has allocated funds to establish a puppet art center, where Lin now trains young apprentices(学徒). Several of her former students have gone on to study at prestigious art colleges, bringing contemporary perspectives to an age-old craft.
For Lin, however, the greatest reward is not the fame but the quiet moments — a child's eyes lighting up when their puppet finally moves, or the laughter that fills her courtyard on weekend afternoons. "These are the sounds that matter," she says. "Tradition only dies when nobody loves it anymore. And around here, love is growing every day."
24. What was Lin Aihua's initial reaction to her grandchildren's viewing habits?
A. She adapted her teaching methods to capture their interest.
B. She expressed disappointment but continued traditional teaching.
C. She requested her grandson to limit their screen time.
D. She sought professional advice on video production.
25. What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 2 most likely mean?
A. Celebrating the change in children's interests.
B. Expressing regret over children's reduced concentration.
C. Denying the existence of a real problem.
D. Questioning the value of traditional education.
26. What can be inferred about Lin's videos from paragraph 3?
A. They replaced traditional workshops completely.
B. They attracted followers mainly from older generations.
C. They rekindled intergenerational interest in puppet play.
D. They were financed by the local government.
27. Which of the following best summarizes the message of the passage?
A. Innovation in preserving cultural heritage can bridge generations.
B. Social media is the only way to revive dying traditions.
C. Traditional crafts require professional training to survive.
D. Younger generations are less interested in cultural heritage.
C
Lots of people snore. In the U. S., about 10% of the adult population have it, and worldwide, the figure is a billion.
The problem isn’t the snoring, but the reason behind it. The most common type of sleep apnea(呼吸暂停) is caused by weakened throat muscles relaxing too much during sleep, causing the airway to narrow or close. That leads to snoring plus long pauses between breaths. And when breathing is affected this way, the brain isn’t getting the oxygen it needs. Obesity and age are considered the biggest risk factors for sleep apnea. Other risk factors include smoking, having a thick neck or narrow throat, family history and certain medical conditions.
Treating sleep apnea is far more important than just stopping snoring. The diagnosis requires several steps. Besides a medical history and physical exam, doctors try to rule out other conditions, such as asthma(哮喘) or thyroid(甲状腺) disorders, that can cause similar symptoms. And they recommend a sleep study to check on breathing, heart rate and other functions during sleep.
Once the condition has been diagnosed, there are many options for treatment. For mild cases in people who are overweight, lifestyle changes can be enough to reverse sleep apnea. Stopping smoking and drinking may help. Even switching from sleeping on your back to on your side may offer relief.
When treatment is required, the most common is a machine called CPAP. “It’s a mask that prevents collapse in the back of the throat,” explains Atul Malhotra, a professor and sleep medicine specialist at the University of California. “It has an unnecessarily bad reputation, since it’s well tolerated by most patients. But you need to find the right mask and the right pressure settings.” There’re also certain surgeries that can be done to keep the airways open or to remove excess tissue, but these are a last-line treatment after less-invasive methods have failed. There’re many trials underway to evaluate drug treatments.
28. What does Paragraph 2 mainly explain about sleep apnea?
A. Its risk factors. B. Its underlying cause.
C. Its diagnostic process. D. Its common symptoms.
29. Why do doctors check for other diseases during diagnosis?
A. To make diagnosis faster. B. To exclude other possible causes.
C. To prove only sleep apnea exists. D. To treat snoring instead of apnea.
30. What does the underlined word “reverse” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Control. B. Cure. C. Prevent. D. Change.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. There is no special medicine for sleep apnea.
B. Surgeries are not recommended by the doctors.
C. The bitterness contributes to CAPA’s bad reputation.
D. CAPA is now the most effective treatment for sleep apnea.
D
As a psychologist studying body image for nearly 30 years, I have noticed distinct differences in terms for body size across different fields. In medical settings, the terms “obese (肥胖的)” or “person with obesity” are commonly used, while body-image researchers tend to opt for expressions like “higher weight.” This often makes me wonder which term to choose across settings.
The core issue is that body size terms are never neutral; they profoundly affect people’s self-respect, internalized weight bias, and clinical communication. Moreover, there is often a gap between the recommendations in professional guidelines and individuals’ actual preferences.
Back in the 1990s, “the obesity epidemic (流行病)” dominated the public health context, framing higher weight as a disease needing correction. Later, person-first language such as “a person with obesity” emerged, aiming to spotlight the individual rather than a single characteristic. This approach follows the pattern used in other medical fields — as with “a person with cancer,” rather than “a cancer patient.” However, this shift still considers larger body size as “being ill” and has proven ineffective.
In recent years, researchers have finally asked: what terms do people in larger bodies prefer? The answer depends. Studies indicate that medical terms like “obese” are least favored, while more neutral descriptions such as “in a larger body,” “unhealthy weight,” and “overweight” find greater acceptance among certain populations. Importantly, context matters. Within fat acceptance communities, “fat” can function as a neutral description, a meaning that does not transfer to medical or mainstream contexts. In fact, in some medical settings, “fat” refers strictly to fat tissue and isn’t an adjective at all.
Some may dismiss all these as unnecessary complaints about language, yet evidence shows that disrespectful terms can prevent individuals from seeking medical care and reduce trust in healthcare providers. Therefore, adopting a flexible, rather than rigid, approach is key. This involves prioritizing individuals’ preferred terms, avoiding morally judgmental language, and adapting to specific contexts. For healthcare workers, balancing guidelines with personal experiences matters, as there is no universal “correct” term.
32.What is the problem with person-first language about body size?
A.It fails to reflect people’s real needs. B.It is rejected by medical professionals.
C.It regards larger build as a disease. D.It is too formal for daily communication.
33.What can be inferred about the term “fat”?
A.It is widely used by researchers instead of “obese”.
B.Its use may boost trust between patients and doctors.
C.It is considered the most polite term in medical settings.
D.Its social meaning has changed in some groups of people.
34.What is the author’s attitude towards the use of body size terms?
A.Supportive of fixed medical terms. B.In favor of context-fit expressions.
C.Objective with no personal opinions. D.Critical of neutral body-image terms.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Body Image: A Focus of Long-Term Research
B.Medical Terms: A History of Obesity Labeling
C.Weight Bias: A Reduction in Healthcare Settings
D.Word Choice: Respectful Body Size Description

Having a goal is one thing; achieving it is another. 36 The key is to break down the journey and use effective strategies to stay on track. Here are several proven strategies and frameworks for defining and reaching your long-term goals.
Make your goals specific and challenging. Start by clearly defining what you want to achieve. A vague (模糊的) goal like “I want to be successful” isn’t very helpful. Instead, make it specific: for example, “I want to become a certified project manager within the next 5 years.” Research shows that specific and challenging goals boost performance far more than easy or vague goals. 37
Break down big goals into milestones. A long-term goal can feel depressing if you look at it as one giant leap. The strategy is to slice it into smaller, manageable pieces. 38 It’s like running a marathon — you focus on reaching the next mile marker rather than obsessing (困扰) about the finish line from the start.
39 A goal set and forgotten is just a dream. Studies suggest that simply writing down your goals — and sharing updates with a friend — can dramatically increase your chances of success, because it turns your intentions into a concrete commitment.
Be flexible and adjust as needed: Long-term planning does not mean rigidly sticking to a script. Over the course of years, industries change, and you will grow and learn. It’s important to review and adjust your long-term goals periodically. 40 Stay committed to the purpose of your goal, but be flexible in the path you take to get there.
A.Track progress and stay devoted.
B.Set a realistic goal appropriate for yourself.
C.If one road is closed, you find an alternative path.
D.Long-term goals often involve many steps and years of work.
E.So, make sure your goal stretches you beyond your comfort zone.
F.You may be surprised by what you can achieve along the journey.
G.This approach creates checkpoint victories that keep you motivated.

Football has been my greatest passion since I was a little child. I have always been crazy about football matches. Whenever I watched players rushing across the green field, passing the ball skillfully and scoring wonderful goals, my heart was filled with great excitement and endless hope. However, I was born weak. I was much thinner and far less athletic than my peers.
For years, my poor physical condition cast a shadow over me. I became shy and totally lacked self-confidence. I always stayed quiet and dared not show myself in front of others. Deep in my heart, I loved football more than anything else, but I never had the courage to join any official football training. I was constantly troubled by worries. I feared that my weak body would drag my team down and make me a laughing stock in front of everyone.
Luckily, a precious opportunity came to me by chance. A member of our school football team had to leave for a short time, and I was unexpectedly picked to fill his position. Knowing this chance was hard-earned, I cherished it deeply. From then on, I devoted myself to strict daily training. No matter how tired or hot it was, I never complained or gave up. I kept practicing basic skills over and over again — improving my speed, stabilizing my passes and strengthening my defense. Day after day, my body became stronger and my football skills improved steadily. My sincere efforts and persistent practice were finally noticed and praised by my warm coach and helpful teammates. Despite all the progress I had made, I was still just a substitute. I could only sit on the bench and watch my teammates compete on the field, with no chance to take part in any official match.
The long-awaited important inter-school football match finally arrived. The competition was extremely fierce right from the start. Both teams fought hard with all their strength, trying to take the lead and win the game. The audience cheered loudly from the stands, making the atmosphere even more tense. As the game went on, the score remained tied, and the situation grew increasingly critical. Just at that moment, an accident happened to our team. Our starting player twisted his ankle badly in a fierce collision. He could barely stand due to the sharp pain and had to leave the field immediately.

The coach suddenly called my name and asked me to get ready to play. A surge of excitement mixed with nervousness flooded my heart. After months of strict training, I finally got the precious chance to step onto the real pitch. Taking a deep breath, I rushed onto the field, determined to prove myself. Though my hands trembled slightly at first, I soon calmed down and focused on every pass and defense. I ran tirelessly across the field, trying my best not to let my teammates down.
I kept trying and finally spotted a golden opportunity. Seeing an opening in the opponent’s defense, I swiftly dribbled the ball forward and passed several defenders. Without hesitation, I kicked the ball firmly towards the goal. The ball, which had been kicked by the star player with incredible precision, dashed into the net perfectly! Loud cheers burst out from the audience. This unforgettable experience taught me that efforts never go to waste, and true courage lies in overcoming inner doubt.

We all know that every member has needs or expectations when working, and these needs or expectations will affect each person's behaviour. For example, they will work harder if they know that they will be rewarded, that is, if they can achieve their goals of higher pay or promotion. The achievement of these goals will in turn lead to job satisfaction. In the nineteen century, Frederick Taylor put forward the theory that workers were only interested in making money. One important twenty eth century theory of motivation was put forward by maslow in nineteen and forty three. Mazo classified five important needs. At the bottom, he taught what he called basic needs, good pay and pleasant working conditions. Then he put security needs, safe working conditions and job security. His third need, he called social, the need to have friends at work and get on with a boss. Fourth, where status needs a job title and social recognition. Finally, he put the need for advancement to have a chAllenging job with opportunities for promotion. His theory isn't perfect, but it's still acceptable today.
