More than music
The famous cake stand returns — last year’s cakes sold out in twenty minutes, so don’t be late! During the breaks, prize-draw tickets will be on sale at £1 each. Prizes include a signed guitar, a term of free guitar lessons and dinner for two at Milano’s.
How the winner is chosen
Three judges from the local music scene score every performance for skill and originality, while the cheers of the crowd, measured on our sound meter, count as one extra judge. The winners get to cut a disc at SoundLab Studio and will open the Summer Fest main stage in July.
The rules
Each band must play at least one song of its own. No song may last longer than five minutes.
Last year, more than 400 music fans packed the hall and helped raise £2,300 for new school instruments.
Let’s beat that number! Every ticket, every cake and every prize draw helps put music back into our classrooms.

根据The line-up部分的时间表可知,The Paper Boats从6:30开始,Bluebird从7:10开始,两场之间相隔40分钟。再根据More than music中的“During the breaks, prize-draw tickets will be on sale at £1 each. (中场休息期间,抽奖券将以每张1英镑的价格发售。 )”可推知,每支乐队的表演时间去掉中场休息时间单支乐队表演时长小于40分钟,结合选项,推测为30分钟。
2.细节理解题。根据How the winner is chosen部分“Three judges from the local music scene score every performance for skill and originality, while the cheers of the crowd, measured on our sound meter, count as one extra judge. (三位来自当地音乐界的评委为每场表演的技巧和原创性打分,而观众的欢呼声通过声量计测量,相当于一位额外的评委。)”可知,获胜乐队由三位专业评委和现场观众共同决定,即一个评审团和观众。
3.推理判断题。通读全文,文章开头“Come and find out! Bring your friends, make some noise, and spend a spring evening with the best young musicians in town. (来看看吧!带上你的朋友,尽情欢呼呐喊,和城里最优秀的年轻音乐家一起度过一个春天的夜晚。)”发出邀请,全文详细介绍了活动的时间地点、乐队阵容、特色活动、票价及评选规则,且文末“Let’s beat that number! Every ticket, every cake and every prize draw helps put music back into our classrooms. Emma woke up with a start. Today was the day her class was taking a special trip to the new city museum, and she needed her permission slip signed. She scrambled out of bed and rushed into the kitchen, where the delicious smell of pancakes was already filling the air.
“Good morning, sleepyhead,” her dad smiled, flipping a pancake onto a plate. “Are you excited for the trip?”
Emma stopped dead in her tracks. Her heart sank, and the smile vanished from her face. “Dad,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I can’t find my permission slip anywhere. I thought I put it in my blue folder last night, but it’s not there.”
Her dad placed his spatula down and gave her a warm, reassuring look. “Don’t panic, kiddo. Let’s retrace your steps. Where did you do your homework yesterday?”
Emma thought hard. “At the kitchen table, and then I took my folder to the living room to show Mom.”
“Well, let’s look in the living room first,” her dad suggested.
The two of them walked into the living room. Emma began searching the couch cushions while her dad checked the coffee table. Just as she was about to give up, she spotted the corner of a bright blue paper sticking out from underneath the sofa pillows. With a gasp of excitement, she dove for it. It was the permission slip, completely safe and perfectly signed by her mother!
Emma threw her arms around her dad’s waist, breathing a huge sigh of relief. She quickly put the paper into her backpack and sprinted back into the kitchen to finish her breakfast. She was finally ready for a fantastic day at the museum.

Courses taught via the Internet, or online courses, have got widespread popularity in many countries in recent years. There are different kinds of online courses, but most show a video of a teacher and students in a classroom. Students watch the video online and take part in online activities. Some courses are free and open to anyone, giving students anywhere the chance to study at any time. Of course, watching students and teachers on a computer screen is not the same as taking part in a real class.
Other kinds of e-learning are being tested around the world. In Singapore, eight schools have been chosen to try new ways of using technology in the classroom. The schools have tablets (平板电脑) and touchscreens instead of books and blackboards in the classrooms. There are also social media platforms designed to help students work together on projects, as well as online “worlds” where students can interact with one another and the digital environment while completing various learning tasks.
In the Republic of Korea, some students have been taught English by teachers in the Philippines and other countries since 2011. The teachers are in their home countries and are connected to the Korean classrooms via the Internet. Instead of looking at a screen, the students interact with a robot in the classroom. The robot is controlled by the teacher and can move around the classroom and talk with the students. While it is unlikely that robot teachers will completely replace real teachers, they can serve as valuable supplementary (辅助的) tools, much like other online learning environments.
These important examples show us that e-learning can be successful. Thanks to technology, more and more ways of teaching and learning are being developed. Nobody knows what the classroom of the future will look like, but one thing is for sure — there has never been a more interesting time to be a student.
8.What does paragraph 1 mainly talk about?
A.Basic forms of online courses. B.Weak points of traditional classes.
C.The advantages of online learning. D.The challenges of watching videos online.
9.What can we learn about Singapore’s schools?
A.Every student has a tablet in class. B.New tech is tried in some schools.
C.They prefer old teaching tools. D.Students work alone on projects.
10.Why are robot teachers used in Korea?
A.To take the place of real teachers. B.To manage students’ bad habits.
C.To improve students’ tech skills. D.To link students with teachers far away.
11.What is the author’s attitude toward future e-learning?
A.Doubtful. B.Uninterested. C.Hopeful. D.Worried.
【答案】8.A 9.B 10.D 11.C
根据第一段中“Courses taught via the Internet, or online courses, have got widespread popularity in many countries in recent years. There are different kinds of online courses, but most show a video of a teacher and students in a classroom. Students watch the video online and take part in online activities.(近年来,网络授课(即线上课程)在多国广为流行。网课形式多样,但大多数课程都会播放课堂师生授课视频,学生在线观看视频并参与线上学习活动)”可知,本段主要介绍了在线课程的基本形式。
9.细节理解题。根据第二段中“In Singapore, eight schools have been chosen to try new ways of using technology in the classroom.(在新加坡,八所学校被选中进行尝试,在课堂中运用新技术的新方法)”可知,新加坡的部分学校正在试点新技术教学。
根据第三段中“In the Republic of Korea, some students have been taught English by teachers in the Philippines and other countries since 2011. Instead of looking at a screen, the students interact with a robot in the classroom.(在韩国,自2011年起,一些学生就开始接受来自菲律宾及其他国家教师的英语教学。这些教师身处本国,通过互联网连接到韩国的教室。学生无需盯着屏幕,而是与教室里的机器人互动)”可知,机器人教师的作用是连接远程教师和本地学生。
11.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Thanks to technology, more and more ways of teaching and learning are being developed. Nobody knows what the classroom of the future will look like, but one thing is for sure — there has never been a more interesting time to be a student.(得益于科技发展,越来越多的教与学的方式不断涌现。没人知道未来教室会是什么模样,但有一点毋庸置疑 —— 学生的学习时代从未像如今这般有趣)”可知,作者对未来电子学习的发展持乐观积极的态度。
D
Since late 2022, more netizens have started using large language models, a popular type of AI tool to access knowledge.
It is no brainer that their appeal is obvious: Ask a question, get a polished synthesis (合成品), and move on — it feels like effortless learning. New research, in contrast, indicates this ease may have a cost. Just as a leading figure in the field of large language models uttered, no revolution comes without a price.
A series of studies revealed that people using such AI tools to research a topic develop shallower knowledge compared to those using a standard web search engine. In the experiments, participants were asked to learn about something and were randomly assigned to do so by using either an LLM or the “old-fashioned way”. Afterwards, they were asked to write advice to a friend on the topic based on what they learned.
The data revealed a consistent pattern: People who learned about a topic through an LLM versus web search felt that they learned less, invested less effort in writing their advice, which ultimately was shorter and less factual. Some independent readers who did not know how it was produced, when rating this advice, found it to be less informative and less helpful, and consequently they were less likely to adopt it.
Why so? There is an old saying that goes, it is hard to read the label when you are inside the jar. Few know why this happens. A core principle of learning is that people learn best when they are actively engaged. With a common web search, you must evaluate search results, click links, and synthesize information from different sources. This active process strengthens understanding. Getting a ready-made synthesis from an AI, on the other hand, requires less cognitive struggle, which can lead to a more superficial grasp of the topic.
However, to be clear, we do not believe the solution to these issues is to avoid using LLMs, especially given the undeniable benefits they offer in many contexts. Rather, our message is that people simply need to become smarter or more strategic users of LLMs.
12.Why are AI tools considered attractive for learning according to paragraph 1?
A.Their constant technical updates. B.Their perceived efficiency and ease.
C.Their guarantee of deeper understanding. D.Their access to a large amount of information.
13.What feature did LLM-generated advice share in the studies?
A.It was longer and more comprehensive. B.It contained more guesses or predictions.
C.It lacked factual support and enough details. D.It was rated favorably for its innovative approach.
14.Why does the author mention “it is hard to read the label when you are inside the jar”?
A.To explain why people prefer using AI tools.
B.To illustrate that users are unaware of the learning cost.
C.To show that AI tools are hard to evaluate.
D.To emphasize the complexity of language models.
15.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Rise of AI Assistants. B.The Value of Active Learning.
C.The Wise Use of AI Assistants. D.The Cost of AI learning.
根据第二段“It is no brainer that their appeal is obvious: Ask a question, get a polished synthesis (合成品), and move on — it feels like effortless learning.(它们的吸引力显而易见,这毫不费力:提出一个问题,得到一个精心提炼的总结,然后继续前行——感觉就像轻松学习一样)”可知,人工智能工具被认为在学习中具有吸引力是因为它们被认为效率高且使用方便。
根据第四段“People who learned about a topic through an LLM versus web search felt that they learned less, invested less effort in writing their advice, which ultimately was shorter and less factual. Some independent readers who did not know how it was produced, when rating this advice, found it to be less informative and less helpful, and consequently they were less likely to adopt it.(通过LLM(大语言模型)而非网络搜索了解某个主题的人,感觉学习到的内容更少,撰写建议时投入的精力也更少,最终得出的建议更简短且缺乏事实依据。一些独立读者在不了解其生成过程的情况下对这些建议进行评分时,认为它们信息量不足、帮助性差,因此更不愿意采纳这些建议)”可知,在研究中,LLM生成的建议缺乏事实依据和足够的细节。
14.推理判断题。根据第五段“Why so? There is an old saying that goes, it is hard to read the label when you are inside the jar. Few know why this happens.(为什么呢?有句老话常说,当你身处罐子内部时,很难看清标签。很少有人知道为什么会这样)”可知,前文说明便捷AI学习存在代价,但很少人知晓缘由,该俗语用来表明使用者意识不到使用AI带来的学习损耗。
15.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“However, to be clear, we do not believe the solution to these issues is to avoid using LLMs, especially given the undeniable benefits they offer in many contexts. Rather, our message is that people simply need to become smarter or more strategic users of LLMs.(然而,需要明确的是,我们并不认为解决这些问题的途径是避免使用大语言模型(LLM),尤其是在许多情况下它们所带来的明显优势不容忽视。
The blank page can be one of the most awful parts of writing. Whether you’re a full-time author, or a student with an essay assignment, looking at that empty document when you don’t know where to start can be disheartening. 16 There is: Prewriting, the first step of the writing process. Let’s explore some types of prewriting strategies.
Brainstorming is helpful for quick idea generation. To brainstorm during prewriting, students can write down all their ideas on a topic as they come up with them. 17 If they come to mind, you can add them to your page or document.
Like brainstorming, freewriting allows students to put all their ideas on a topic on paper. The difference is that freewriting is more structured compared to a brainstorming session. Typically, the first step of freewriting is setting a timer for a period, like five minutes. 18
Journaling is the ongoing process of writing down thoughts, questions, and ideas when you have them so you can refer back to them later. Journaling can be a less intense version (版本) of freewriting. 19 Carry a journal with you and write when inspiration strikes.
20 Knowing what prewriting methods exist and being able to test them out on a variety of projects can help students figure out what works best for them.
A.No ideas are bad.
B.You can use the 5Ws and 1H questions.
C.How to jump over the blank page to next step?
D.It happens over time rather than in short, timed blocks.
E.During that time, you write about your topic without stopping.
F.No single strategy is most effective for every writer or project.
G.What if there were a magic solution to take away the blank page?
【答案】16.G 17.A 18.E 19.D 20.F

A common energy waste in our classrooms recently catches my attention: lights are often left on when no one stays inside, especially when all students leave for dinner after afternoon classes, which causes plenty of unnecessary electricity waste.

Lila nervously squeezed (紧捏) the messy script (剧本) in her pocket. She walked slowly toward the school hall with her best friend Mia, her feet feeling heavy. A wave of fear filled her heart, and she whispered helplessly, “I still can’t believe you signed me up for the drama club play. What if I freeze on stage, forget all my lines, and look stupid in front of everyone?”
For years, Lila had kept her biggest interest a secret. She filled her notebooks with her own scripts, writing gentle and brave stories alone, but she never dared to show anyone. Shy and quiet, she seldom spoke in class. She was afraid that people would laugh at her daydreams and soft imagination.
Mia suddenly stopped and turned to Lila, her eyes warm and sure. She knew all of Lila’s hidden dreams. “You’ve written so many scripts alone in your room,” she said softly but firmly. “You understand stories, you feel the characters deeply, and you know what quiet courage is. No one is more right for the lead role than you. This is your chance to stop hiding.”
Lila held her breath. She knew Mia was right, but just thinking about standing under the bright stage lights with so many eyes watching made her hands sweaty. Fear tightened in her chest.
When they entered the hall, the drama teacher Mr. Carter immediately called the club members together to announce the roles. “After looking at everyone, our lead actress will be Lila.”
As soon as he spoke, surprised whispers and quiet laughs spread through the crowd. “Lila? She’s too shy to answer questions in class. How can she play the lead?” A sharp, unkind laugh cut through the room.
Shame burned on Lila’s face. Her ears buzzed (嗡嗡响), and her courage broke completely. She lowered her head, eyes filled with tears, ready to give up and return the script. She wanted to run away and hide in her safe little world where no one would laugh at her dreams.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Just as she was struggling, Mia came to her.

Her voice shook at first, but grew firmer with each line.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just as she was struggling, Mia came to her. Mia held her tightly and said calmly, “Their words don’t matter. You’ve written brave stories for others. Now be brave enough to live one.” Mia’s words calmed Lila’s fear. She slowly raised her head and looked at the script. She soon realized the script was her own story about a shy girl finding her light. At that moment, Lila decided not to let fear kill her dream. She took a deep, shaky breath, wiped away her tears, stood up straight, and opened the script.
Her voice shook at first, but grew firmer with each line. She put all her understanding of the character and all her hidden strong will into her words. The hall fell silent, and the unkind laughter turned into surprise and admiration. After she finished, Mr. Carter praised her warmly and said the role was just for her. Lila breathed out slowly and smiled sincerely. For the first time, she realized that dreams hidden in notebooks would never come true by themselves. Courage is not the lack of fear, but moving forward bravely even when you are afraid.

C.Hopeful. D.Worried.
