It is believed in some ways that the daughter is father’s lover. But my experience has taught me in a different way. For a long time, my father has been a very vague figure(模糊的形象)to me. He was a man of few words, tall but slim and nothing else.
When I was in primary school, my father was never there to pick me up, and he never came to any of my parent-teacher meetings. He was always busy doing projects. I remember when I was in middle school and my head was badly hurt in a PE class. During my operation, my father was nowhere to be found. This hurt me most. At that moment, I considered my father as a cold-blooded man who did not care about me at all.
But things seemed different at my high school graduation ceremony, where I was chosen to represent my class and give a speech. My father, once again, told me he had a business trip in a place outside the city and would be unable to show up(露面). “Don’t come. I will be very nervous if I see you,” I told him.
I remember my speech went smoothly. After the ceremony was over and I was about to leave. I suddenly noticed a familiar(熟悉的)looking man sitting in a corner of the hall. It was my father! I was so surprised that I rushed to him with tears(眼泪)running down my face. “Well done,” he said. His eyes were also filled with tears.
Later, I found out that my father had managed to finish his work by staying up late, and he drove for eight hours to get back. He had been sitting in the corner because he didn’t want me to see him. My father remembered every word in my speech.
For much of my life, I described my father as a cold-blooded man who only cared about his work. But when I thought deeply about this, it was obviously(明显地)not true. At my graduation ceremony. I could feel my father’s deep love. The fact is that seeing is not believing, and seeing may not be the fact if we don’t perceive(感知)the world with our hearts and minds. There’s no doubt that life doesn’t lack(缺少)love, but sometimes our eyes have trouble seeing it.
14. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The writer’s father was in the hospital during her operation.
B. The writer’s father attended her high school graduation ceremony.
C. The writer’s father sometimes picked her up when she was in primary school.
D. The writer’s father went to parent-teacher meeting when she was in primary school.
15. The writer rushed to her father with tears running down her face mainly because .
A. she gave a speech successfully
B. the graduation ceremony was over
C. she was so nervous that she couldn’t help crying
D. she was touched to find her father cared about her
16. What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to(指代)?
A. That my father was always doing projects.
B. That my father was a cold-blooded man.
C. That my father sat in the corner of the hall.
D. That my father’s eyes were filled with tears.
17. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. My busy father B. Life is full of love
C. Seeing is not believing D. A wonderful speech
C
①Do you like blueberries? If so, the next time you’re about to eat these delicious berries, take a good look at them. Then ask yourself: Are blueberries really blue?
②For the most part, blueberries aren’t blue. If you carefully take off the skin of one blueberry, you’ll see that the fruit inside is white. If you rub (摩擦) the inside of the skin on a white piece of paper, you’ll see a reddish-purple color. And if you gently rub the outside of a blueberry, the blue color disappears and the berry looks almost black. But the moment you pick one, it does look blue. What’s going on?
③Well, there are two ways to create colors. The first is through pigments (色素). Pigments show the color of the light they don’t take in. The most common pigment in plants is chlorophyll (叶绿素), a green pigment. Plant leaves appear green because chlorophyll doesn’t take in green light. It sends it out instead while taking in blue and red light. Plants prefer to take in blue light because it has more energy than any other light. In fact, there aren’t any “true blue” pigments in the plant world.
④The second way to make color is through “structural color (结构色)”. This happens when the surface makes some colors of light look different. Have you ever seen the rainbow colors on a CD? These colors show up because of the tiny spaces between the CD’s thin layers (层). These spaces only allow certain colors to reach our eyes.
⑤Blueberries also create “structural color” in their own way. The berries look black when they’re ripe (成熟的), but the plants build a thin layer of wax (蜡) on their outside. This layer is only 0.4% of a centimeter thick, but it gives the berries their blue look. The blue color helps the plants because birds are attracted to the rare color. They eat the berries and spread the seeds (种子) far and wide.
⑥Now your bowl of blueberries suddenly looks a lot more interesting. The fruit is beautiful, but its beauty is only skin deep!
18. According to the article, after you gently rub the outside of a blueberry, it almost looks ________.
A. blue B. white C. black D. reddish-purple
19. Which of the following pictures correctly shows why a leaf looks green to us?
A. B. C. D.
20. Blueberries appear blue in the same way that ________.
A. a CD appears colorful B. a tree leaf appears green
C. they appear black when ripe D. a fallen leaf appears yellow
21. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A. ①/②③/④⑤⑥ B. ①/②/③④/⑤⑥ C. ①②/③④/⑤⑥ D. ①/②/③④⑤/⑥
D
It was a week before I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus had come to the top. I would go out and see the sunrise.
Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to run away. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea.”
“I do,” replied the Captain. “But these forests are under the sea.” During breakfast, he explained, “I have made diving suits that used special air tanks before I sent you the note. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. Wonderful, isn’t it?” He said he had also made lights that worked in electric batteries. When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.
Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We went through it, and we were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience.
We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed. Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper.
As we were a hundred metres under the water, we could still see quite well. Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” there were giant seaweed, and all their branches were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed trees.
Three hours later, we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.
(Adapted from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea)

B
【答案】14. B 15. D 16. B 17. C

①②/③④/⑤⑥ D. ①/②/③④⑤/⑥
【答案】18. C 19. B 20. A 21. D
根据文章第②段中的“And if you gently rub the outside of a blueberry, the blue color disappears and the berry looks almost black.”可知,轻轻摩擦蓝莓外皮后,蓝色会消失,蓝莓看起来几乎是黑色的。
【19题详解】
根据文章第③段中的“Plant leaves appear green because chlorophyll doesn’t take in green light. It sends it out instead while taking in blue and red light.”
根据文章第④段中的“Have you ever seen the rainbow colors on a CD? These colors show up because of the tiny spaces between the CD’s thin layers (层). These spaces only allow certain colors to reach our eyes.”和第⑤段“Blueberries also create ‘structural color’ in their own way.”

New things are always considered (考虑) terrible. But each time you try something, you learn and as the learning piles up (积累), the world opens to you.
Now, I’m an English teacher. When my students are afraid to try new things, I would tell them “You can’t learn if you don’t try!”
