Are you going through adolescence (青春期)? You might have started adolescence earlier than your parents did.
Puberty begins when your body tells your brain to produce certain hormones (激素). During adolescence, teenagers grow quickly and their bodies change.
Studies show that adolescence is happening earlier now. Take girls in the US, for example. They are getting their periods (生理期) about six months earlier than girls did a few decades ago. The average age used to be 12.5 years old, but now it’s just under 12.
Many things can cause early adolescence. Obesity is one of the key reasons. This may be because fat cells (细胞) produce estrogen, a type of hormone which is important for female body changes. Some chemicals in care products and food, as well as stress, may also be the reasons.
Studies show that early adolescence might increase the risk of health problems, like breast cancer and heart disease as well as shorter adult height. What’s worse, teenagers who start adolescence earlier might feel scared or angry. “They might be treated differently as they look older or different, which can make them doubt themselves,” said Aviva Sophia, a doctor at a children’s hospital in New York, US.
The problem often hits girls harder, for they pay more attention to their bodies, which can put greater social pressure on them to act in a more ‘adult’ way.
Caring parents say, “I don’t want my girl to grow up in that way.” Some of them even become very nervous...

An early and unfinished law will be sent to the law-making group in January 2026 for further discussion. Besides the social media ban, it also wants to widen the mobile phone ban from primary to secondary schools in order to create a more focused learning environment for younger students.

Gen Z and Mental Health: How to Deal with Pressure
Gen Z, people born between 1997 and 2012, are facing more pressure than ever before. A recent study shows that 81 percent of American teens feel great pressure about their grades, appearance and future. This problem is not unique to American teens. In China, many teenagers also feel stressed because of heavy study tasks, peer competition and family expectations.
Why do Gen Z face so much pressure? On one hand, the society is developing fast, and the competition is becoming fiercer. Young people need to work harder to meet the high expectations from their families and society. On the other hand, social media also plays a role. Many teens compare themselves with others on social media, which makes them feel inferior and stressed.
Stress is not always a bad thing. Proper stress can encourage people to work harder. But too much stress can be harmful to mental and physical health. It can make people feel anxious, sad and tired. It can also affect sleep and study efficiency. So, how can Gen Z deal with pressure in a healthy way? Here are some suggestions from experts:
First, learn to set reasonable goals. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. It’s okay to make mistakes and not be perfect. Second, develop a hobby. Doing something you love, such as painting, playing sports or gardening, can help you relax and reduce stress. Third, communicate with others. Talk to your parents, teachers or friends when you feel stressed. They can give you support and advice. Fourth, limit screen time. Spending too much time on social media can make you feel more stressed. Try to put down your phone and enjoy real life.
In addition, schools and families should also pay more attention to teenagers’ mental health. Schools can set up counseling rooms and hold mental health lectures. Families should create a relaxed and supportive environment for their children. They should communicate with their children more and understand their feelings instead of only focusing on grades.
Gen Z is the future of the world. It’s important for them to learn to deal with pressure in a healthy way. By doing so, they can grow up happily and become useful people to society.

根据短文内容,从短文后的A ~ F选项中,选出5个适当的选项补全短文。
The term “social phobia” seems to have taken on popularity these days. Young people in particular are describing themselves as having it. They prefer not to go out much, saying that it’s hard for them to make new friends or socialize. 36 The answer is “no”.
In fact, this is just a reaction to certain social situations. US researcher Ty Tashiro wrote the book Awkward (笨拙): The Science of Why We’re Socially Awkward and Why That’s Awesome. 37 As a result, they end up feeling uncomfortable.
For example, they might be afraid of breaking some kind of unspoken rule. 38 This might make them unwilling to socialize. They prefer to stay in instead of going out to meet new people. But this doesn’t mean they have social phobia.
Social worry is not the same as real social phobia, which is much more serious. 39 But they are so afraid of doing it that they cannot leave their homes. Their brains simply won’t allow them to interact with others in a normal way. People with social phobia disorder can even experience panic attacks (惊恐发作).
40 Some people use self-help books to help them gain more control over their minds. Therapy (心理治疗) can also help.
A.Luckily, social worry can be treated.
B.But is this a “real” disorder (病症)?
C.He explains that some people don’t “read” social situations correctly.
D.So they start to act awkwardly because they don’t want this to happen.
E.People with social worry are thirsty for going out and talking with people.
F.They might feel uneasy because they are afraid of forgetting their friends’ names.
【答案】36.B 37.C 38.D 39.E 40.A

【详解】36.第一段前文提到年轻人自称有社交恐惧症,不愿出门社交,后文紧接着说“The answer is ‘no’.”,选项B“But is this a ‘real’ disorder?”以问句形式承接上文,引出“这是否是真正的病症”的疑问,与后文“答案是否定的”形成完美呼应。
37.第二段前文提到美国研究员Ty Tashiro写了一本书,后文说“As a result, they end up feeling uncomfortable.”,选项C“He explains that some people don’t ‘read’ social situations correctly.”能够承接上文对书的介绍,说明书中的核心观点,并与后文“因此感到不舒服”构成因果关系。
38.第三段前文提到“they might be afraid of breaking some kind of unspoken rule.”,后文说“This might make them unwilling to socialize.”,选项D“So they start to act awkwardly because they don’t want this to happen.”承接上文,说明因为害怕打破规则,所以表现得笨拙,进而引出后文“不愿社交”的结果,逻辑通顺。
39.第四段前文提到“Social worry is not the same as real social phobia, which is much more serious.”,后文说“But they are so afraid of doing it that they cannot leave their homes.”,选项E“People with social worry are thirsty for going out and talking with people.”承接上文,说明社交焦虑者其实渴望社交,与后文“但真正的社交恐惧症患者因太害怕而无法出门”形成对比,逻辑清晰。
40.第五段后文提到“Some people use self-help books to help them...Therapy can also help.”,选项A“Luckily, social worry can be treated.”能够承接上文,引出“社交焦虑是可以治疗的”这一结论,并与后文列举的治疗方法自然衔接。

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题,每个题目的答案不超过8个单词。
On 16 February, 2024, many schools in the US celebrated an important holiday—No One Eats Alone Day (NOEA Day).
Laura Talmus and her husband, Ace Smith, founded NOEA Day in honour of (为了纪念) their daughter Lili. Talmus felt helpless when her then 11-year-old daughter kept calling her from school. “Lili just cried and asked me to pick her up from school,” Talmus recalled. After trying some ways with little success, Talmus decided to homeschool (在家教育) Lili with the help of private teachers.
Lili was born with Apert syndrome, an illness that made her look different. Because of that, her classmates treated her differently. “They didn’t bully (欺负) her,” Talmus said. “But they sent the message by turning their backs in the dining hall to show she wasn’t welcome. Lili often spent her lunch breaks in the library.”
After Lili died from the illness at age 15 in 2009, Talmus showed a video to celebrate her life. Lili’s classmates felt quite sad when realising how lonely Lili had felt, and Talmus knew that many kids experienced the similar (类似的) feeling. “I was surprised to see how many kids raised their hands and that they all wanted to talk about their feelings.”
In 2010, Talmus and Ace Smith turned their sadness into forming NOEA Day, with the hope of raising awareness about social isolation (社交孤立) among students. “For many children, the lunch break is the most difficult part of the day, so we started there. We hope that middle school can and should be a great experience for everyone,” Talmus said.

France plans to ban (禁止) social media use for students under 15 years old from September 2026. The goal is to protect teenagers’ physical and mental health. An early and unfinished law will be sent to the law-making group in January 2026 for further discussion. Besides the social media ban, it also wants to widen the mobile phone ban from primary to secondary schools in order to create a more focused learning environment for younger students.
President Emmanuel Macron said social media brings big risks to young people’s growth. Studies have shown too much use can cause cyberbullying (网络霸凌), sleep problems, anxiety and poor school work. Young people’s self-control is not yet strong at this age, so they are easily influenced by bad content like violent (暴力的) videos and harmful messages.
The law has two key rules. First, social media apps must stop teenagers from making or using accounts (账号). The French government will surely enforce this rule. Second, mobile phones -will be banned in middle schools to help students focus on daily study and classroom interactions. The government also hopes the law will be ready by September 2026 when the new school year starts across the country.
A survey shows 73% of French people support the ban. They care a lot about teenagers’ online safety and believe the ban is necessary to protect young people from online harms. Australia has already banned social media for students under 16 years old since December 2025, which is the first country to take such a step.

26.Why does France want to ban social media use for teenagers?

31.Who are Gen Z according to the passage?
A.People born before 1997.
B.People born between 1997 and 2012.
C.People born after 2012.
D.People born between 1987 and 1997.
32.What is the percentage of American teens feeling pressure about grades, appearance and future?
A.81% B.71% C.61% D.51%
33.Which of the following is NOT a reason for Gen Z’s pressure?
A.Fierce social competition. B.Heavy study tasks.
C.Family expectations. D.Too much free time.
34.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Stress is always harmful to people.
B.Social media can help reduce stress.
C.Proper stress can encourage people to work harder.
D.Gen Z don’t need to set goals for themselves.
