Alice Moore is a teenager entrepreneur(创业者), who in May 2015 set up her business AilieCandy. By the time she was 13, her company was worth millions of dollars with the invention of a super-sweet treat that could save kids’ teeth, instead of destroying them.
It all began when Moore visited a bank with her dad. On the outing, she was offered a candy bar. However, her dad reminded her that sugary treats were bad for her teeth. But Moore was sick of missing out on candies. So she desired to get round the warning, “Why can’t I make a healthy candy that’s good for my teeth so that my parents can’t say no to it?” With that in mind, Moore asked her dad if she could start her own candy company. He recommended that she do some research and talk to dentists about what a healthier candy would contain.
With her dad’s permission, she spent the next two years researching online and conducting trials to get a recipe that was both tasty and tooth-friendly. She also approached dentists to learn more about teeth cleaning. Consequently, she succeeded in making a kind of candy only using natural sweeteners, which can reduce oral bacteria.
Moore then used her savings to get her business off the ground. Afterwards, she and her father secured their first business meeting with a supermarket owner, who finally agreed to sell Moore’s product—CanCandy.
As CanCandy’s success grows, so does Moore’s credibility as a young entrepreneur. Moore is enthusiastic about the candy she created, and she’s also positive about what the future might bring. She hopes that every kid can have a clean mouth and a broad smile.
Meanwhile, with her parents’ help, Moore is generally able to live a normal teenage life. Although she founded her company early on in life, she wasn’t driven primarily by profit. Moore wants to use her unique talent to help others find their smiles. She donates 10% of AilicCandy’s profits to Big Smiles. With her talent and determination, it appears that the sky could be the limit for Alice Moore.

American YouTube star IShowSpeed, known as “Jiakang Ge” because of his energetic live streams, showed modern China to 57 million fans around the world from March 24 to 28, 2025. This 20-year-old content creator visited Shanghai, Beijing, and Xi’an. His live broadcasts broke the common wrong ideas that Western people have about China.
His trip started in Shanghai’s Pudong. It’s a place that looks very futuristic. He danced with old people in parks by the water. He ordered soup dumplings with a food delivery app and tried them. He also tested Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra electric car. The car has a 1,526-horsepower engine and costs $70,000. This surprised him a lot. During a live stream watched by 5.6 million people, he kept saying, “This is better than a Lamborghini!” People all over the world saw that China has very clean streets and advanced transportation.
In Beijing, IShowSpeed got into Chinese cultural traditions. He wore colorful traditional clothes. He did a backflip (翻跟斗) on the Great Wall and shouted, “This is living history!” He was a bit confused about traditional fermented drinks. But he was excited to learn table tennis from the famous pop icon Jackson Wang. He also really enjoyed eating spicy hotpot. His live broadcasts showed busy night markets and nice interactions. Viewers from other countries said, “Chinese cities seem safer than our cities.”
The streamer praised China’s technology a lot. When he took a high-speed train to Xi’an, he was amazed that there was 5G in the tunnels all the time. He said, “New York subways can’t even send messages!” His six-hour live stream from Shanghai, in 1440p quality, proved that China has great internet. This surprised people who didn’t believe what the media said before.
This cultural exchange made people around the world talk a lot. Fans loved it when IShowSpeed sang the popular Chinese song “Sunshine Rainbow White Horse” with local people. Some people wondered if things were set up, but most thought his real reactions showed daily life in China. Officials called this “people-to-people diplomacy”. Foreign viewers acknowledged that it “bypassed” political biases (偏见) to show real China.

Many of us love July because it’s the month when nature’s berries and stone fruits are in abundance. These colourful and sweet jewels form British Columbia’s fields are little powerhouses of nutritional protection.
Of the common berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, although, because of their seeds, raspberries contain a little more protein (蛋白质), iron and zinc (not that fruits have much protein). Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants The yellow and orange stone fruits such as peaches are high in the carotenoids we turn into vitamin A and which are antioxidants. As for cherries (樱桃), they are so delicious who cares? However, they are rich in vitamin C.
When combined with berries of slices of other fruits, frozen bananas make an excellent base for thick, cooling fruit shakes and low fat “ice cream”. For this purpose, select ripe bananas for freezing as they are much sweeter. Remove the skin and place them in plastic bags or containers and freeze. If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown. Frozen bananas will last several weeks, depending on their ripeness and the temperature of the freezer.
If you have a juicer, you can simply feed in frozen bananas and some berries or sliced fruit. Out comes a “soft-serve” creamy dessert, to be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity for a children’s party; they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below.
12. What does the author seem to like about cherries?
A. They contain protein. B. They are high in vitamin A.
C. They have a pleasant taste. D. They are rich in antioxidants.
13. Why is fresh lemon juice used in freezing bananas?
A. To make them smell better. B. To keep their colour.
C. To speed up their ripening. D. To improve their nutrition.
14. What is “a juicer” in the last paragraph?
A. A dessert. B. A drink.
C. A container. D. A machine.
15. From which is the text probably taken?
A. A biology textbook. B. A health magazine.
C. A research paper. D. A travel brochure.

My cousin Allen was the coolest person in all of Minneapolis. By the age of 19, he was a star football player at the University of Minnesota. I wanted to be just like him. So when Allen asked me to join him on a spring fishing trip in northern Minnesota, I said yes!
After planning the trip, we gathered clothes and supplies and then set off on our adventure. We reached the Superior National Forest by early evening. On the way to our campsite, Allen pointed to a small house faraway in one of the mountains, saying that it was the ranger station (护林站) where the foresters worked.
Allen knew all the tricks of an experienced camper. After we gathered enough wood from the forest floor, he started the campfire using only stone and steel, no matches. After a day of travelling, we were very hungry. We ate beef and rice and some soup as well.
Exhausted, we crawled into our sleeping bags early. Allen was still talking about his past camping adventures when a sudden wind picked up from the north. The temperature dropped and it began to snow. Allen knew of a way to increase the temperature inside the tent. He dragged a log from the woods, wrapped aluminum foil (铝箔) around the log and then placed it near the campfire. The heat from the fire reflected into the tent. Soon the tent was warm again and thoughts of lake fish filled my dreams.
I was still dreaming when Allen woke me up in a panic. Our tent was on fire! The snow had stopped during the night, but the wind had fanned the flames of the fire towards our tent. Frightened by the flames, I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed with Allen inside. Without any hesitation, I reached into the burning tent, grabbed him, and dragged him to the icy lake. We checked each other to make sure neither of us was hurt.

Later, as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm, we considered our situation.

C 13. B 14. D 15. B
根据第二段中As for cherries (樱桃), they are so delicious who cares?(至于樱桃,因为它们很好吃谁在乎呢?)
If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown.
根据最后一段中they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below可知,孩子们喜欢把一些水果和冷冻的香蕉放入到这台机器的上部,然后看到冰激凌从下面出来。

A Lifesaving Lesson: Our First Aid Training
To raise students’ awareness of emergency response, the Students’ Union organized a first aid training in our school hall last Friday afternoon. The activity, which was led by a professional doctor from the local Red Cross hospital, attracted over 200 students.
We learned how to perform CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver, practicing on dummies repeatedly under the doctor’s patient guidance. The training lasting two hours, we not only gained practical skills but also built up confidence in handling emergencies.
Many students said the lesson was extremely meaningful and necessary, for the knowledge we acquired could save lives in real emergencies.

Later, as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm, we considered our difficult situation. Our campsite was in the deep of the forest, really far away from the highway. We were in the middle of nowhere, wearing only underwear, with our supplies burnt into ashes, including our cellphones. Even Allen was unsure what to do next. The only thing we could do was just sit in the cold air and wonder how to get out of the forest.
Suddenly, we heard a noise in the forest. Anxiously we listened and stared into the darkness. A jeep appeared. A forester had spotted the light from the fire and had come to have a check. We jumped into the warm vehicle and the forester drove us to the ranger station, where we were given clothes and were able to call our parents. Allen and I had many more camping adventures from then on, but it was on this trip that Allen began to treat me more like a friend rather than a younger cousin. Our friendship continues to this day.
