B We live in a culture crazy about goals. We're told that success depends on dreaming big and pursuing unceasingly. But what if that mindset is quietly stealing your joy? I’m not against goals. I’ve pursued plenty of big ones myself. But I’ve learned that when we treat goals as the only measure of meaning, we risk spending most of our lives doing things we don’t enjoy. We should welcome goals into our lives — but holding them lightly. It means letting goals guide us, but not define us. It means caring less about whether we reach the finish line, and more about whether we're enjoying the run. Take my experience writing a book. My big goal was to get traditionally published. That goal sent me in a direction, but the real magic was in the day-to-day writing, refining my proposal, working with an agent, and querying publishers. I genuinely enjoyed all of it. And because I wasn’t attached to the outcome, I could focus on the process. Goals help us aim our purpose like a compass, not a contract. They get us moving. But they don’t have to be the only reason we keep going. Sometimes the best outcomes aren’t the ones we planned. Back to my book journey: Sure, I wanted to get published. But along the way, something unexpected happened. I met incredible people — fellow writers, podcasters (播客), and editors. One connection led to an invitation to be on a podcast. Another introduced me to a writing group. None of that was on the original goal list. But all of it made my life better. This is the underrated gift of goals — new relationships, new skills, new insights. These happy side effects are often more rewarding than the original achievement. Should You Set Goals? Absolutely. Just don’t make them your identity. Be bold enough to dream, but humble enough to adapt. Be focused enough to move forward, but flexible enough to enjoy the challenges. Because the goal isn't the destination. The goal is the invitation. It invites you to live with intention. 24. What is the problem with our culture’s addiction to goals? A. Goals are irrelevant to personal success. B. Goals should be pursued without distractions. C. Only grand goals are worth pursuing. D. Focusing solely on goals reduces happiness. 25. What does the author mean by “holding goals lightly”? A. Approaching goals with flexibility. B. Setting achievable goals only. C. Dismissing goals as unimportant. D. Prioritizing outcomes over the process. 26. How did the author find his book journey? A. Stressful. B. Demanding. C. Awkward. D. Rewarding. 27. What advice does the author give about setting goals? A. Set goals and stick to them. B. Dream big but remain adaptable. C. Face challenges and learn from them. D. Stay ambitious but be open to change. C A team of researchers from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed an innovative green pesticide formulation (农药配方) that promises to strengthen control of harmful insects while prioritizing safety for both crops and the environment. “This new pesticide represents a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional pesticides,” said Prof. Wu Zhengyan, who led the research team. The findings of this study were published in ACS Nano. Traditional pesticides often face several challenges, including uneven application on plant leaves, tendency to being washed away by rain, and rapid decomposition (分解) under sunlight. Additionally, remaining chemicals from these formulations can pose environmental risks. Therefore, in this study, the team engineered a new pesticide formulation to enhance adhesion to leaves, resist sunlight decomposition, and provide a gradual release of the active ingredient for sustained effectiveness. The success of this new formulation lies in its unique structure. The carbon dots combined with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) increase the pesticide’s capacity to hold more abamectin (阿维菌素) — approximately 1.7 to 2.1 times more than conventional formulations. This allows for greater effectiveness while using less active ingredient. When the pesticide contacts the weakly acidic environment on plant leaves, the calcium carbonate breaks down, facilitating a quicker release of the pesticide and enabling easier tracking through the lights released by the carbon dots. This “controlled release” mechanism ensures that the pesticide remains active, even in challenging conditions such as UV light or rain. In tests conducted on the diamondback moth (小菜蛾), a common agricultural threat, the new formulation demonstrated excellent pest control both indoors and outdoors. Importantly, it also minimizes environmental impact. Compared to traditional pesticides, this new formulation showed reduced poisonousness to non-target animals. Furthermore, once the pesticide has released its active ingredient, the remaining materials decompose into harmless substances like calcium ions (Ca2+), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon dots, significantly lowering the risk of pollution. 28. How is the benefit of the new pesticide stressed in Paragraph 1? A. By offering statistics. B. By giving examples. C. By defining a concept. D. By quoting an expert. 29. What does the underlined word “adhesion” mean in Paragraph 2? A. Sensitivity. B. Response. C. Reference. D. Stickiness. 30. What makes the new pesticide different from traditional one? A. Its distinctive structure. B. Its lower production cost. C. Its unique tracking method. D. Its faster decomposition rate. 31. Why is the new pesticide environmentally friendly? A. It restores the ecological balance. B. Its by-products are clean and safe. C. It avoids harming unrelated species. D. Its remaining materials are reusable. D Faced with biodiversity loss worldwide, protected areas are set aside to provide wildlife with a safe space. Conservationists often focus on species counts when measuring success. But are these protected areas doing enough to preserve the entire structure of ecosystems? This question is at the heart of a new study from Swansea University. The relationships between organisms play a key role in ecological balance. That a hawk (鹰) hunts smaller birds or a songbird feeding on insects reflects interactions that keep ecosystems working. To figure out if protected areas help keep this ecological balance, the Swansea team examined the structure of food webs. They used data from platforms like eBird, where volunteers record bird sightings. This allowed the experts to track 509 bird species across 45 ecological networks from Spain to Finland. Using this large database, the team combined observational bird records with known predator-prey (捕食者-猎物) links. For example, if a hawk feeds on smaller birds, that relationship was mapped. The team compared food webs inside protected areas to those in surrounding non- protected areas. They also looked at habitat diversity, the percentage of forest and agricultural land, and levels of human pressure. The networks inside protected areas tended to have more species overall. Intermediate-level species were more common. Also, predators inside protected areas tended to be larger in body size, both at the top and middle levels of the food web. However, the length of food chains and the connectivity of species within the web did not show consistent improvement. Generally, areas that were more remote or had higher habitat diversity had healthier food webs. Human pressure and the amount of nearby farmland had a strong influence, too. Interestingly, areas under the European Bird Directives showed stronger positive trends. This suggests clearer conservation planning makes a difference. The research shows relationships between species are equally vital. Protecting one bird species is good. Ensuring that it still plays its ecological role — as predator, prey or pollinator (传粉者) — is better. Conservation needs to think about networks, not just the number of species saved. 32. Why did the Swansea team examine the structure of food webs? A. To understand the effectiveness of conservation efforts. B. To show the consequence of human pressure on wildlife. C. To prove the position of predators in ecosystems. D. To test the species counts in protected areas. 33. How was the finding of protected areas according to paragraph 4? A. Worrying. B. Unsatisfactory. C. Encouraging. D. Regretful. 34. What caused the food web differences? A. The local culture. B. The environmental factor. C. Financial support. D. People’s safety awareness. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Future of Global Biodiversity B. The Direction of Protected Areas in Conservation C. The Purpose of Species Counts in Ecological Balance D. To most, they might seem like waste. But to my grandfather, they were treasure chests of stories. My grandfather grew up in a small mountain village, where the only way to hear news of the outside world was through an old, noisy and unclear radio that he fixed by connecting wires under high heat. “I didn’t understand most of the words,” he used to laugh. “But the music spoke to me.” Fixing radios became more than a hobby — it was how he reached out to the world. He learned everything through repeated trials, until broken silence turned into sound again. My mother never planned to keep this habit. As a teenager, she preferred tape players and music that she could carry with her. But when Grandpa passed away, she couldn’t throw away his tools or the radios he left. “They’re part of him,” she once said, gently turning a round metal button on one of the radios. Slowly, she began trying to fix a few of them, not as an expert, but with care and curiosity. By the time I was ten, I had watched my mother spend many weekends surrounded by small parts and wires. “Come and try with me,” she said one Saturday. “Let’s see if we can fix this one together.” I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t even like machines. I enjoyed reading and drawing. But when she turned the button and a jazz tune started playing, I felt something touched me. Soon, fixing radios became our weekly activity. She showed me how to look closely at every wire and tiny part, and how to be patient and listen carefully. “Sometimes the problem isn’t what you see,” she said. “It’s what you hear — or don’t hear.” Unlike my mother, I fell in love with it quickly. I began collecting old radios from neighbors and even tried fixing ones that no longer worked. I didn’t just want to make them work — I wanted to bring back their sound. One winter evening, a sudden power cut hit our village. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When the power was restored, everyone thanked me for bringing them music. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 机密★启用前 2027届高三9月开学质量检测 英语 注意事项: 1. What is the woman’s hobby? Dealing with information faster. B. Learning musical art better. C. Having few memory issues. 20. Why can birdwatching help people reduce stress? A. It forces them to stay quiet. B. It improves their social skills. C. It allows them to get close to nature. B 19. A 20. M: Birds are beautiful creatures. Looking at them could be good for us. Researchers in Canada say birdwatching could protect our brains against age-related diseases. The lead researcher said, “Skills from birdwatching could be beneficial for intelligence and reasoning as people age.” The researchers compared brain scans of 29 experienced birders and 29 new birdwatchers. The brains of the experienced birders were a lot more active. The experienced birders had a longer attention span. They also had a better memory than those new to the hobby. In addition, the experienced birders could process information more quickly. Birdwatching benefits the brain like learning a musical instrument. This is because the brain learns new skills. Birdwatching combines the ability to identify things with a sensitivity to movement and detecting patterns. Other scientists say the hobby is good for people’s mental and physical health. It can reduce stress. This is because they are outside in the fresh air and sunlight, and observing different birds helps them connect with nature. Birdwatchers also say their hobby improves their social life. This is because they meet many people who are like them. A The Ocean Awareness Contest is a global competition organized by Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs, a nonprofit based in the United States. 24. D 25. A 26. D 27. But what if that mindset is quietly stealing your joy?(我们生活在一个痴迷于目标的文化中。 根据第二段“We should welcome goals into our lives — but holding them lightly. It means letting goals guide us, but not define us. It means caring less about whether we reach the finish line, and more about whether we're enjoying the run.(我们应当在生活中接纳目标——但要以轻松的心态对待它们。 故选A项。 根据第三段“I genuinely enjoyed all of it. And because I wasn’t attached to the outcome, I could focus on the process.(我真的很享受这一切。 以及第四段“None of that was on the original goal list. But all of it made my life better. This is the underrated gift of goals — new relationships, new skills, new insights.(这些都不在最初的目标清单上。 根据最后一段“Should You Set Goals? D 29. D 30. A 31. Sensitivity.敏感;B. Response.回应;C. Reference.参考;D. Stickiness. 根据第三段中“The success of this new formulation lies in its unique structure.(这种新配方的成功在于其独特的结构。)” 故选A。 根据最后一段“Furthermore, once the pesticide has released its active ingredient, the remaining materials decompose into harmless substances like calcium ions (Ca2+), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon dots, significantly lowering the risk of pollution.(此外,一旦农药释放出其有效成分,剩余的物质就会分解成无害的物质,如钙离子(Ca2+)、二氧化碳(CO2)和碳点,大大降低了污染的风险。)” B。 D Faced with biodiversity loss worldwide, protected areas are set aside to provide wildlife with a safe space. The Importance of Species Relationships in Ecosystems 【答案】32. A 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第二段中“To figure out if protected areas help keep this ecological balance, the Swansea team examined the structure of food webs.(为了弄清楚保护区是否有助于保持这种生态平衡,斯旺西团队研究了食物网的结构)”可知,斯旺西团队研究食物网的结构是为了了解保护区在保护生态平衡方面的效果,即保护工作的有效性。故选A项。 根据第四段“The networks inside protected areas tended to have more species overall. Intermediate-level species were more common. Also, predators inside protected areas tended to be larger in body size, both at the top and middle levels of the food web.(保护区内生态网络总体上物种更多。中级物种更为常见。此外,在食物网的顶层和中间层,保护区内捕食者的体型往往更大)”可知,保护区内生态网络总体上物种更多,中级物种更常见,且捕食者的体型更大,这些都是积极的、令人鼓舞的发现。故选C项。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“Generally, areas that were more remote or had higher habitat diversity had healthier food webs. Human pressure and the amount of nearby farmland had a strong influence, too.(一般来说,更偏远或栖息地多样性更高的地区拥有更健康的食物网。人类的压力和附近农田的数量也有很大影响)”可知,食物网的差异主要是由环境因素造成的,包括栖息地的多样性、人类活动的影响以及农田的数量等。故选B项。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,特别是根据第二段中“But are these protected areas doing enough to preserve the entire structure of ecosystems? This question is at the heart of a new study from Swansea University.(但是这些保护区是否足以保护整个生态系统的结构呢?这个问题是斯旺西大学一项新研究的核心)”、第二段中“The relationships between organisms play a key role in ecological balance.(生物之间的关系在生态平衡中起着关键作用)”和最后一段“The research shows relationships between species are equally vital. Protecting one bird species is good. Ensuring that it still plays its ecological role — as predator, prey or pollinator (传粉者) — is better. Conservation needs to think about networks, not just the number of species saved.(研究表明,物种之间的关系同样至关重要。 There are all sorts of reasons that someone might be in a coma(昏迷). So, while it’s true that people survive them all the time, it can still be incredibly worrying to experience someone you love being in one. This is something that a man named Kole Larsen understands all too well. ____36____Although we don’t know why that was the case, we do know this: Kole thought he was going to lose her. While visiting Mom, Kole would often sing a song for her — evidence has shown that people in a coma can actually hear what’s going on around them. ____37____And one day, Kole had the unexpected opportunity to witness firsthand proof. While he sang, Mom began to tap(轻拍) along. The pure joy in Kole’s eyes as his mom taps along is indescribable. ____38____Best of all, though, Mom went on to make a full recovery! Now, instead of tapping, she’s able to sing right along with him. Our love for one another, and our shared connection to music, are such powerful things! “If that’not an incredible connection, I don’t know what is,” someone in the comments writes, another adding, “Having a son, I know she fought so hard to stay with you. Perhaps it was the music they’d shared for years—childhood songs, car ride tunes—that bound them closer, proving love and tunes break through even the deepest silence. ____39____” “Lost my mom in September very suddenly. Keep up holding her tight and making memories,” a thoughtful commenter advises. “____40____ Treasure every hug and every laugh—time waits for no one, and those little moments become the biggest treasures.” A. At one point, his mom was in a coma. B. Plenty of research has been done on this. C. Never know how much you miss her till she is gone. D. Music has the power to heal both the body and the soul. E. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: One winter evening, a sudden power cut hit our village. The whole village was swallowed by darkness, and the cold silence seemed to stretch endlessly. I quickly invited the neighbors over to my house. From a large box, I took out several radios I had repaired over the past few weeks — old sets they had once given me, broken and forgotten. I placed them on a wooden bench and began turning the metal buttons, adjusting the metal antennas one by one. Slowly, voices and music began to rise. People leaned in, eyes wide, smiles spreading across their anxious faces. When the power was restored, everyone thanked me for bringing them music. However, I shook my head and said, “It wasn’t just me — it was Grandpa.” I began telling them how he had fixed his first radio before and how he passed that quiet love down to my mother. As I spoke, everyone listened carefully and nodded in agreement. That night, I understood something deeper: fixing radios wasn’t only about sound or skill — it was about connection. In moments of silence or trouble, these old radios carried more than news or music; they carried the stories of who we are. And as long as someone keeps tuning in, that story will continue. 词汇激活 行为类 ①修理:repair/fix ②理解:understand/comprehend ③继续:continue/go on/carry on 情绪类 ①急切的:anxious/impatient ②同意:agreement/consent 【点睛】[高分句型1] People leaned in, eyes wide, smiles spreading across their anxious faces.
