B At Cheverton Lodge Care Home, festive jingling breaks out from 17‑year‑old Ted Mayer's speaker and he launches into his Christmas set. A seasoned volunteer, he has been singing in care homes since he was six. Ted's charm has won over many in the audience, particularly the older ladies. But it's not for everyone. Jeanette Hodes, 92, offers an impatient “come on, get on with it” and leans back in her chair. On a nearby cart a cat's cradle(翻花绳)has caught her eye. The string is quickly brought over to her. Soon enough she is transported to the playground of her youth, offering cheerfully‑recalled anecdotes from when she learnt double dutch with friends as her mother could not afford to buy her a Sindy doll. Looking on fondly is Jill Fraser, 68, the founder of Kissing it Better(KiB), a charity working to reduce isolation in the elderly through intergenerational friendships. Fraser is making her way around the room with a cart of various old treasures. A faded Beatrix Potter hardback, Jackie magazine and a biography of Lord Mountbatten are piled on top of one another. Fraser's team of volunteers prepared the items as recollection is thought to be a powerful tool for striking up much‑needed conversation with the elderly. Anna Giannotti, 63, an art psychotherapist who is paid for a few hours a week by KiB, says, “Sometimes the elderly are hesitant to get involved, but often when they do get involved, they just become their complete selves. I feel very humbled. It could be any of us in the future. ” The youngest volunteer of the day, Mariella Hafalla, 16, finds the frankness of the older generation refreshing. “I really enjoyed the session where we talked about what the residents did when they were younger, ” she says. “Spending time with them lets me understand their lives better. Such warm moments truly connect different generations. ” 24. What made Jeanette Hodes cheer up? A. She recalled her young happy days. B. She participated in Christmas singing. C. She got a lovely Sindy doll as a gift. D. She chatted with young volunteers. 25. Why does Jill Fraser bring old items to the Care Home? A. To entertain the young volunteers. B. To inspire talks among the elders. C. To show her personal collections. D. To match the festive atmosphere. 26. How does Anna Giannotti feel about her work? A. Stressful and tired. B. Respectful and thoughtful. C. Relaxed but bored. D. Struggling but meaningful. 27. What is the best title for the passage? A. Old Games Bring Back Sweet Memories B. One Christmas Performance at the Care Home C. Valuable Lessons from Elderly Residents D. Small Acts of Kindness That Bridge Generations C As the new robot called Sprout walks around a Manhattan office, nodding its rectangular head, lifting its swinging “eyebrows” and offering to shake your hand with its grippers(钳子), it looks nothing like the shiny and threatening humanoids built by some companies. Sprout's charm is the point. A 5‑year‑old child could comfortably talk at eye level with this humanoid, which stands 1 meter tall and has a soft exterior of sage‑green foam. Developed by Fauna Robotics over two years, Sprout aims to jump‑start a whole new industry of building “approachable” robots for homes, schools and social spaces. If its emotive expressions and blinking lights seem slightly familiar, it might be from generations of Star Wars robots and other robotic companions dreamed up in animation studios and children's literature. “Most people in this industry take inspiration from the science fiction that we grew up with, ” said Fauna Robotics co‑founder and CEO Rob Cochran. “I think some do so from Westworld and Terminator. We do from WALL‑E, Baymax and Rosie Jetson. ” Sprout can't lift heavy objects, but it can dance the Twist or the Floss, grab a toy block or teddy bear, or stand up from a chair to take a long walk along the wooden floors. It walks slowly but steadily on uneven ground. Only once did it come close to tripping when taking a sharp turn to avoid a person. Its foot hit a table wheel so low that it could not be seen by Sprout's camera eyes. But the robot, built to handle disturbances, quickly recovered its balance and kept walking, much like a clumsy person might. Starting a robot company can be unforgiving, especially one designing personal robots. What happens next with Sprout will depend on how developers experiment with it and what they learn. For Cochran, some of the most important “judges” have already given their approval. In a home video he keeps on his phone, his 2‑year‑old twins excitedly jump up and down as Sprout greets them. 28. What is a key feature of the robot Sprout? A. It is built mainly for heavy lifting. B. It moves more quickly than other robots. C. It wears bright shiny metal covers. D. It has a friendly and childlike appearance. 29. What inspired the design of Sprout according to the passage? A. Robotic images in animated works. B. Industrial robots for social spaces. C. Tools used in ordinary households. D. Characters from adventure novels. 30. How did Sprout react to the fall risk? A. It stopped walking at once. B. It regained balance quickly. C. It asked people for assistance. D. It released a warning signal. 31. What is Cochran's attitude towards the future of personal robots? A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Indifferent. D. Positive. D For decades, the scientific community has held that about 700 million years ago, our planet entered extreme cold conditions known as “Snowball Earth” — a time when thick ice blanketed nearly the entire globe. However, the exact degree of this coldness remained unresolved. Now, an international research team led by Chinese scientists has made a breakthrough by providing the first data‑based measurements of ocean temperatures from that period. A recent journal publication revealed that sea temperatures along continental margins were between ‑22℃ and ‑8℃. Such coastal regions supported the highest biological activity. The seawater was also up to four times saltier than modern ocean water. As stated by Lu Kai, the study's first author at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, this represents the coldest ocean temperature ever recorded in Earth's history. This extreme cold period left behind special rocks: rusty red iron formations found where glaciers(冰川)met the ice‑covered seas. The researchers used these rocks to measure ancient temperatures. They focused on iron isotopes(同位素)— different forms of iron atoms. These isotopes change in a regular pattern as temperature changes, making them reliable for measurement. By analyzing the isotopes, the team figured out how cold the ancient ocean was. The results showed that the surface seawater temperature was much lower than today's 17℃, yet it remained unfrozen. Lu explained that this extreme environment likely formed at the base of massive ice shelves. During melting and freezing cycles, ice pushes out salts, which build up over time. This creates salt‑laden areas with extremely low temperatures. This environment serves as a natural shield against freezing, allowing seawater to stay liquid far below the normal freezing point. “The discovery contributes to exploring the survival mechanisms of early life in such extreme climates, ” Lu said. “It offers reliable evidence of the marine ecosystem back in that period, and serves as a valuable reference for analyzing climate changes and the adaptive strategies of ancient organisms facing challenging conditions. ” 32. What is the scientific puzzle about “Snowball Earth”? A. How thick the ice layers were. B. What the exact cold degree was. C. Where the glaciers first formed. D. When exactly the ice age began. 33. How did the scientists make the discovery? A. By studying iron isotopes in rocks. B. By testing modern seawater samples. C. By observing glacier melting cycles. D. By analyzing early marine life fossils. 34. What does the underlined word “shield” in paragraph 4 most likely mean? A. Shade. B. Change. C. Protector. D. Signal. 35. What can be inferred about the discovery? A. It guides studies on ancient life adaptation. B. It completely solves climate change puzzles. C. It overturns the past view of life's survival patterns. D. It ensures stable modern marine ecosystems. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Is it possible to have a job you love? Absolutely. He loved reading books more than anything else in the world. Every week, he made it a rule to finish two books. His favorite thing was getting lost in stories by great writers. For years, he dreamed of writing and publishing his own novel and even started working on one. But when Jack turned forty‑five, something terrible happened. He developed a serious eye problem. Day by day, his eyesight got worse. Soon, reading a page made his eyes burn, and watching TV for more than ten minutes felt like a struggle. What he loved most became impossible. The sight of his bookshelf, filled with unread novels and his half‑finished novel, only deepened his pain. Jack stopped smiling. He stayed in his room all day, feeling hopeless and alone. On the other side of the town, a 15‑year‑old student named Clair learned about Reading Friends, a charity program in Britain, which invites volunteers to visit people who can't read anymore and read books aloud to them. Clair thought it sounded amazing and signed up right away. He imagined the joy of bringing stories back to those who had lost access to them, hoping his young voice could bridge the gap of silence. When he heard about Jack's story, he decided to help. At first, Jack refused Clair's offer. “What's the point?” he said to his wife Sadie, who couldn't read for her husband due to her own illness. “I'm not the reader I used to be. ” Three times, he closed the door on Clair. But the young volunteer didn't give up. One day, he called Sadie and asked what kind of books Jack liked. “Ernest Hemingway. He has read all of Hemingway's novels at least twice, ” Sadie replied. Hearing this, Clair had an idea. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The next Saturday afternoon, Clair came to Jack's house again. ________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ On a sunny Saturday, Jack mentioned his half‑finished novel. ________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ 高二英语试题参考答案 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 1.C 2.B 3.B 4.A 5.A 第二节(共15小题;每小题1.5分,满分22.5分) 6.C 7.B 8.C 9.A 10.B 11.A 12.B 13.C 14.C 15.B 16.A 17.C 18.A 19.B 20.C 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 21.D 22.C 23.C 24.A 25.B 26.B 27.D 28.D 29.A 30.B 31.D 32.B 33.A 34.C 35.A 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 36.D 37.F 38.A 39.G 40.E 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 41.A 42.C 43.B 44.A 45.D 46.B 47.C 48.C 49.D 50.A 51.B 52.C 53.A 54.D 55.B 第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 56.performance 57.recognized/recognised 58.combining 59.to explore 60.extremely 61.where 62.for 63.has expanded 64.stories 65.and 第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(满分15分) 参考范文: Dear Sir or Madam, Hearing that our school English magazine English Voice is recruiting campus English editors,I'm writing to apply for the position. This time,he carried a worn copy of The Old Man and the Sea,determined to reach Jack through the author he once loved. Instead of knocking again,Clair sat down outside the door and began reading, his voice clear and calm. Tired and hopeless,Jack did not respond at first. But the familiar story slowly worked its magic. After several minutes, the door creaked open. Jack said nothing, still leaving the door open. Clair took that as permission, stepped inside, and continued reading. By the end of the afternoon,Jack's expression had softened. He nodded when Clair asked if he could come again. On a sunny Saturday,Jack mentioned his half finished novel. His voice trembled slightly as he described the story he had left behind years ago. Without a word,Clair pulled out his laptop and placed it on the table. Word by word,Jack narrated, and Clair typed. Encouraged by the young volunteer,Jack poured his heart into the book. After months of hard work, the novel was finally completed and then published with Clair's help. When the printed book arrived,Jack held it in his trembling hands,a wide smile spreading across his face. He realized that his dream as a writer had never truly been lost. More importantly,he had gained something just as precious — a friendship that reminded him he was never alone. 听力材料 第一节 听下面5段录音,每段录音后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段录音后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段录音播放两遍。 (Text 1) W: Can you drive at top speed, please? Welcome to tonight's news show. Today, we bring you information about the North Sea oil spill. It happened almost a week ago, just off the coastal town of Whitby. It's important that we discuss the impact of this incident and what steps the community is taking to address it. Local governments have advised residents to stay informed about water quality, especially given the potential effects on fishing in the area. In times like these, we must come together to support one another. Our show aims to provide a platform for experts who can shed light on the incident and guide us on ways to help. Joining us tonight are Dr. Emma Williams, an environmental scientist, and Peter Thompson, a lecturer at Oxford. They will share insights into the incident and valuable tips on measures we can take to avoid risks. We encourage everyone to stay tuned, listen carefully, and share this important information with your friends and family. 第二节到此结束。 现在,你有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。 听力部分到此结束。 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
