Aimed at smaller lawns (800 m2 rather than 1,200 m2), the E15 is smart enough to detect trees, borders and even pets while cutting. It’ll even detect when it rains or gets dark and head back to base. Eufy E15 (£1,499), eufy.com NEXT IN LINE Last month, Nintendo launched the successor to one of the most popular games of all time. The Switch 2 will cost £395 and Mario Kart World £65 in the UK. You just need to pay £429 if you bundle (捆绑购买) them (a set). Buy the Switch 2 alone now and you’ll get a 10% discount. If you buy 2 sets or more, you can enjoy a 20% discount. Any Nintendo console isn’t really about the tech specs, it’s about how it makes you feel when you knock that smug Donkey Kong off his kart on the last corner. We’ll see you in line. Nintendo Switch 2: From £395, nintendo.com JUST LOOK AT IT! While we wouldn’t recommend dropping $10,000 on a record player, we can’t ignore how good this turntable looks. The idea here is that sound and light unite. As the player’s needle dances across the surface of the record, the light shines in harmony. Plus, the turntable itself is held up in the air via magnetic suspension, which, as well as looking unbelievably cool, means it’s isolated from vibrations (震动) to provide maximum musical faithfulness. Audio Technica Hotaru $10,000 (£7,480), audio-technica.com 21. What is an advantage of E15? A. It requires a buried wire to operate. B. It can detect obstacles while cutting. C. It is designed for lawns over 1,200 m2. D. It can predict when it rains or gets dark. 22. How much do you pay for 2 Switches with 2 Mario Kart World the least? A. £736 B. £617 C. £686 D. £790 23. What helps Audio Technica Hotaru provide maximum musical faithfulness? A. Its amazing look. B. Its creative design. C. Its application of vibrations. D. Its combination of sound and light. B From an early age, Edward Norton was taught what protecting the environment really requires. His father, an environmental lawyer, founded the Grand Canyon Trust and his grandfather was a pioneer in low-income housing policy. Norton built his own career in a different field, becoming one of his generation’s most respected actors. When Norton first became famous, he concluded that he wasn’t interested in ordinary celebrity ambassador work. “I am not interested in being some weak sauce kind of spokesperson,” he says. “It’s not that I don’t believe those things are important but that held no nourishment for me.” What does nourish Norton is his work with a Kenya-based organization called the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, which helps the Maasai people to make a living from their land through innovative means. One project that Norton is particularly proud of channels profits from the sale of carbon offsets (碳补偿) to local Maasai communities who use that money to support health, education, and conservation initiatives. One challenge that concerns Norton would be familiar to his father and grandfather: raising funds. This led Norton to a realization. “We can’t have the conservation movement depend only on donor-funded charity,” he says, “It not only can’t scale; it’s fundamentally unstable.” A new model is needed. Norton and his partners argue that tourist dollars being spent in fragile places ought to remain in-country — or better yet, in-community. Norton and his team have started a company called Conservation Equity that will invest in tourism in critical places and will reinvest its profits locally, instead of paying distant shareholders. Norton is optimistic about the model’s prospects, “I think what we are doing has no previous example to follow. The needs of people are not going to take a lower priority to the spiritual value of nature. If protecting and restoring nature can’t produce a stronger and more reliable economy, the effort will fail.” 24. How did Norton feel about being a typical celebrity spokesperson? A. Enthusiastic. B. Tolerant. C. Dissatisfied. D. Confused. 25. What is Norton’s main concern about the conservation movement? A. Expansion of its public influence. B. Lack of a stable source of funding. C. Failure to meet the needs of local communities. D. Repetition of the faults of previous generations. 26. What is special about Norton’s new model of conservation? A. Downplaying the value of nature. B. Raising funds from distant donors. C. Focusing on local children’s education. D. Benefiting local economic development. 27. Which of the following words best describe Norton? A. Confident and honest. B. Generous and talented. C. Practical and pioneering. D. Ambitious and conventional. C For lots of kids, toddlerhood (幼儿期) is an important time for friendship. Studies show that the earlier kids learn to form positive relationships, the better they are at relating to others as teenagers and adults. Playing together also helps these kids practice social behaviors, such as kindness, sharing, and cooperation. Even so, how quickly your child develops into a social creature may also depend on his temperament (性格). Some toddlers are very social, but others are shy. In addition, the way that toddlers demonstrate that they like other children is markedly different from what adults think of as expressions of friendship. Research at Ohio State University in Columbus found that a toddler’s way of saying “I like you” during play is likely to come in the form of copying a friend’s behavior. This seemingly unusual way of demonstrating fondness can result in unpleasant behavior. Regardless of how much they like a playmate, they may still grab his toys, refuse to share, and get bossy. But experts say that this is a normal and necessary part of friendship for kids this age. Through play experiences, toddlers learn social rules. That’s why it’s so important to take an active role in your toddler’s social encounters by setting limits and offering frequent reminders of what they are. When you establish these guidelines, explain the reasons behind them. Begin by helping your child learn sympathy (“Ben is crying. What’s making him so sad?”), then suggest how he could resolve the problem (“Maybe he would feel better if you let him play the ball.”). When your child shares or shows empathy (同理心) toward a friend, praise him (“Ben stopped crying! You made him feel better.”). Another way to encourage healthy social interaction is by encouraging kids to use words not fists to express how they feel. It’s also important to be mindful of how your child’s personality affects playtime. Kids are easy to get angry when they’re sleepy or hungry, so schedule playtime when they’re refreshed. 28. What does it indicate when toddlers copy their playmates’ behavior? A. They are interested in acting. B. They are shy with the strangers. C. They are fond of their playmates. D. They are tired of playing games. 29. What does the author suggest parents do for their kids? A. Design games for them. B. Find them suitable playmates. C. Play together with them. D. Help them understand social rules. 30. What is the function of the quoted statements in paragraph 4? A. Giving examples. B. Explaining concepts. C. Providing evidence. D. Making comparisons. 31. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. How Children Adapt to Changes B. How to Be a Role Model for Children C. How Your Baby Learns to Love D. How to Communicate with Your Kid D Even when communing with nature we depend on technology for help — but then, so did Thoreau (梭罗) at Walden Pond (瓦尔登湖). Walking in the same woods yesterday, I let myself wander at random, communing with nature. I took in beautiful scenery near and far thanks to my progressive-lens eyeglasses. Occasionally I’d pull out my smartphone to take pictures on anything interesting. I recorded an inner monologue with a background of all sounds of the forest. At times, I consulted my smart watch to check on my heartbeat, mileage and calorie burn. Eventually I realized I was quite lost. Not a problem of course. Online maps came to my rescue. But something bothered me. In what I’d intended as a nature experience, here I was using very high-technology to help myself out. This insight triggered a reconsideration or everything that happened during my “nature walk,” which had been technologically enhanced every step of. the way. I’d been functioning as a man-machine combination: a cyborg. What would the true naturalist Thoreau think of that? My first thought was that he’d be shocked. But later I did some research. Thoreau enjoyed what his spyglass discovered, like this eagle from his journal: Lying on the ground with my glass, I could watch him very easily … till I almost lost him in the clouds … I think I have got the worth of my glass now that it has revealed to me the white-headed eagle. Famously, Thoreau always set out equipped with a walking stick, which he used not only for support but also to take measurements of water and snow levels. His hat was also a tool, which he called his “botany-box.” And he was prepared even with needles and thread, so when coming out of the woods, he was “the best dressed.” Clearly, Thoreau was a bit of a cyborg himself. Thinking more deeply, I realized we’ve come a long way from our hunter-gatherer ancestors, who walked from necessity and relied on nature’s gift. Cyborgs are us. 32. What is the purpose of the text? A. To recommend Thoreau’s book Walden Pond. B. To argue that humans have developed into cyborgs. C. To share the reflections on man’s reliance on nature. D. To question whether people are technology-dependent. 33. Which picture best illustrates a cyborg in the author’s eye? A. B. C. D. 34. Why does the author quote Thoreau’s journal? A. To introduce a literary work on nature. B. To explain how to prepare for a nature walk. C. To prove that even naturalists use technology. D. To describe the natural beauty Thoreau enjoyed. 35. What is the author’s attitude towards being a cyborg? A. Favorable. B. Intolerant. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 False Consensus Effect The false consensus effect describes how individuals frequently overestimate how much others share their beliefs and values. This implies that people often project their personal attitudes and ideas onto others, assuming that they are more common or widespread than they actually are. 36 For instance, if one strongly supports a particular lifestyle, they may incorrectly assume that most of their peers or community members enjoy the same way of life. This assumption can lead to a distorted (扭曲的) perception of reality in which the individual confidently sees their belief as the “norm” rather than their own personal thought. 37 Individuals may make decisions based on what they believe is the consensus rather than considering a full range of options and perspectives. 38 The false consensus effect can lead to a lack of understanding towards those with opposing opinions. Whether it’s climate change attitudes, social issues, or even simple lifestyle preferences, this bias can cause us to alienate (疏远) people who think differently. 39 More broadly, the false consensus effect can create echo chambers, particularly in online places. People may choose to interact primarily with those who share their views, strengthening their existing beliefs and leading to a lack of diversity in thought. Echo chambers can stop societal progress, reducing the chance for innovative ideas to emerge. 40 These echo chambers can even lead to dangerous behavior. If someone holds radical (极端的) views and believes that most people are in support of these views, they may be more likely to act upon them in potentially violent or destructive ways. A. Worse still, its consequences extend beyond these effects. B. It can also lead to an impact on decision-making processes. C. It reveals our tendency to project our own values and opinions. D. We may find it hard to engage in meaningful dialogue with others. E. In social settings, it can significantly influence how people interact. F. For individuals, this bias can lead to overconfidence in personal views. G. Unsurprisingly, this satisfies an individual’s psychological need for belonging. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 I was on the way to my father’s house. He loved the smell of the grass as he slid across it. And he loved the excitement when he shot the ball into the net. There was nothing in this world that could weigh the same as football in his heart. He dreamed of growing up to be a professional footballer. Every day Adam would go to the field and practise with his friends. He still remembered when he asked to join the older boys, they teased (取笑) him, “You’re too small. Football is for big, tough players, not for someone your size.” Then when they saw he could run, kick, and shoot as well as they could, the teasing stopped. Adam played hard and really had a gift. He even became the only one in the group who could do the bicycle kick (倒挂金钩)! One day after school, Adam went to the playground to practise as usual. The boys were talking quietly, casting excited glances at a man who was watching the field. As Adam joined the group, Captain Harold told him the man, called Mr. Smith, was looking for players for his football camp and there would be a tryout match the next day. Adam could hardly contain his excitement, The camp meant there would be professional coaches to train him! He would do anything to join it. After the practice, Mr. Smith approached and Adam crowded close so he could see him. “Who wants to come to my football camp and really learn to play this game?” Mr. Smith asked. Excited hands shot up. Mr. Smith shook them all and shook Adam’s hand last. “Little man, I saw you run fast,” he said. “But you are far too thin and short for my camp. You’ll get knocked down in a second.” Adam looked down so no one would see his disappointment. “It’s not fair! Adam’s been practising with us and he’s the only one who ever did the bicycle kick!” Harold argued. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)作文答卷双面都要写上班别、姓名、学号,题目提供的首末句需要抄上去。请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Inspired, Adam decided to seize the opportunity. _________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day Adam came to the tryout. ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
