Activity 1
Listen and read something about Fan Jinshi
Skim and find out who is called Daughter of Dunhuang
Daughter of Dunhuang
Fan Jinshi, known as the “Daughter of Dunhuang”, has spent most of her life protecting the ancient Dunhuang caves.
The Dunhuang caves are home to many wall paintings and painted sculptures. Sadly, they have suffered some damage over time.
In the late 1980s, Fan came up with the idea of digitalizing the caves. After more than 30 years of hard work by Fan and her team, the “Digital Dunhuang” website went online in 2016. Now, people all over the world can enjoy the wonder of Dunhuang. This way, the caves will live on forever.
All this did not come easy. For over 60 years, Fan chose to leave city life behind and work in Dunhuang, deep in the desert. She gave up a comfortable life for a bigger dream.

1. Why is the “Digital Dunhuang” website so important?
2. What do you think of focusing one’s life on a single important project?
Because people all over the world can enjoy the wonder of Dunhuang. This way, the caves will live on forever.
I think it is really meaningful. If we focus our life on one important project, we can put all our energy into it and make great achievements. Just like Fan Jinshi, she spent her whole life protecting Dunhuang. However, it requires great courage and strong will. We have to give up many comfortable things for our dream.
