The greatest scientists were famous not only for their discoveries, but also for their interesting lives. Having a special, uncommon mind often goes hand in hand with unusual acts.
Nikola Tesla is known for many inventions. One is the alternating current (AC) electricity. While inventing it, Tesla was good at keeping things in mind, because he used picture thinking and imagined every step in his mind before even picking up a pencil. Tesla said he wanted to do it because of his mother, who invented small electrical machines when he was a child.
In his later years, Tesla had many strange habits. He slept only two hours every night and dined at exactly 8:10 p. m. After dinner, he’d often work until 3 a. m. Before bed, Tesla curled (卷曲) each foot 100 times, saying it was good for his brain.
Another scientist encouraged by his mother was Albert Einstein, though what he got from his mother was a love of music. In fact, Einstein often played music on the piano and the violin to help him brainstorm.
Einstein’s achievements include the most famous equation (方程式) E=mc2 and his theory of relativity. However, thanks to his wild hair, he was also well-known for the looks of a "mad scientist" and you can tell that he had some interesting quirks (个性). For example, he had a strong dislike of wearing socks. And Einstein was so withdrawn (内向的) as a boy that he couldn’t speak until he was three.
Sometimes, the smartest of us are also the strangest. That quiet child in the corner may be the next Tesla or Einstein one day.
59.How did Tesla remember things?
A.By drawing mind-maps. B.By reading aloud.
C.By taking things down. D.By thinking in pictures.

B.Tesla did some foot exercises before bed.

D.Einstein was also famous for his hair color.

62.What does the writer mainly want to tell us about?

①A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby in their free time. In fact, many people have found that dancing can make them feel better both physically and mentally. Why is dancing so helpful?
②When we dance, we move our bodies to different kinds of music. This movement helps our bodies produce more endorphins, a chemical that makes us feel relaxed and happy. It’s like our body’s own “feel-good” medicine.
③Dancing is a mix of music and sports. While simply listening to music or doing sports can cheer us up, mixing them together gives better results. In a study, a group of German scientists carefully chose a number of patients with different levels of depression (沮丧). They tested these patients under three conditions: a group dancing with music, a group just listening to music, and a group riding bikes without music. The results showed that the first group was the least depressed.
④Dancing can bring people together, too. Tango, Latin dance or other social dancing requires us to move with others, which can improve our sense of social connection, according to IBSA, a Swiss scientific foundation.
⑤Studies have found that depression often has to do with sadness about the past or worry about the future. However, dancing helps you focus on the present, connect with your body and free your mind for a while. In this way, it helps us forget bad feelings.
⑥Lauren Helper, a social worker in the US, said that dancing can be any form. You can dance at home when you listen to your favorite song, or you can go out and dance with friends. The most important thing is to have fun no matter who you are. Dancing is a wonderful way to improve your feelings and live a happier life.

1A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby in their free time.In fact, many people have found that
dancing can make them feel better both physically and mentally. Why is dancing so helpful?
2When we dance,we move our bodies to different kinds of music. This movement helps our bodies
produce more endorphins,a chemical that makes us feel relaxed and happy. It's like our body's own "feel-good"
medicine.
3Dancing is a mix of music and sports. While simply listening to music or doing sports can cheer us up,
mixing them together gives better results. In a study,a group of German scientists carefully chose a number of
patients with different levels of depression ()They tested these patients under three conditions:a group
dancing with music,a group just listening to music, and a group riding bikes without music. The results showed
that the first group was the least depressed.
4Dancing can bring people together, too.Tango,Latin dance or other social dancing requires us to move
with others, which can improve our sense of social connection, according to IBSA,a Swiss scientific foundation.
5Studies have found that depression often has to do with sadness about the past or worry about the
future. However, dancing helps you focus on the present, connect with your body and free your mind for a while.
In this way,it helps us forget bad feelings.
6Lauren Helper,a social worker in the US,said that dancing can be any form. You can dance at home
when you listen to your favorite song,or you can go out and dance with friends. The most important thing is to
have fun no matter who you are.Dancing is a wonderful way to improve your feelings and live a happier life.

60.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Tesla hated having to wear socks.
B.Tesla did some foot exercises before bed.
C.Einstein was outgoing when he was a child.
D.Einstein was also famous for his hair color.
61.What did Tesla and Einstein have in common?
A.They both thought and acted in unusual ways.
B.They both had great inventions of the electricity.
C.They both played the piano well for better working.
D.They both took up inventing because of their mothers.
62.What does the writer mainly want to tell us about?
A.The inventions of great people in the world.
B.The living habits of smart people around us
C.The two great mothers of Tesla and Einstein.
D.The special things about well-known scientists.
【答案】59.D 60.B 61.A 62.D
根据文章第二段中“Tesla was good at keeping things in mind, because he used picture thinking...”可知,Tesla擅长记忆是因为他使用图像思维(picture thinking),即在脑海中想象每一步。
60.根据第三段“Before bed, Tesla curled each foot 100 times”可知,Tesla 睡前会做足部运动,故B项正确。
61.文章第一段提到“Having a special, uncommon mind often goes hand in hand with unusual acts”,随后分别列举了Tesla和Einstein生活中不同寻常的习惯和个性(如 Tesla的足部运动、Einstein不穿袜子等),说明他们思考和行动方式都很独特。
C
63.How does the writer support his opinion in Paragraph 3?
A.By introducing the history of dancing.
B.By giving examples of different dance styles.
C.By presenting the results of a scientific study.
D.By comparing different types of music used in dancing.
64.Which would be the best structure of the passage?

C.To explain why dancing makes people feel better.
D.To share the results of a scientific study on dancing.
66.Which of the following is Lauren Helper’s opinion?
