二、阅读理解(共4小题;每小题2.5分,满分10分)
Monitoring a person’s pulse (脉搏) continuously can offer meaningful and important medical information, such as heart rate and, indirectly, blood pressure. However, pulse waves can change a lot from person to person and even within the same person at different times of day and during different activities. These changes make it difficult for current wearable pulse sensors to collect accurate data, which is especially problematic for those with cardiovascular (心血管的) diseases or high-risk factors for those diseases.
To solve this problem, a team led by Penn State researchers looked first not to the future, but back—to principles of pulse monitoring in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Using these principles, the researchers designed a pressure-sensing platform to identify the best pulse signal, which they combined with a machine learning model to also predict blood pressure. They published their results in Advanced Materials.
“According to TCM, doctors would take the pulse at three positions (穴位) on the wrist: cun, guan and chi,” said co-author Larry Cheng, Jr. Memorial Associate Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Penn State. “As they use three fingers to press at these locations, they increase the pressure to measure the pulse from shallow to deeper. This method provides a more accurate reading of pulse signals, whether the person is active or resting.” Cheng explained that in order to design a wearable health monitor, they used two ideas, adaptive pressures and various wrist locations. The researchers used 3D printing to print a sensor array (阵列)—one device with several sensors. The principles of TCM allow them to address the limitations of using just one point on the wrist and to better collect data from different places on the wrist and at several depths.
“The sensor array is completely printed, which is cheaper than traditional methods of constructing a sensor. This also makes the sensor array easier to operate, improving its design as a wearable device,” Cheng said.
21. What is the main problem with current wearable pulse sensors?
A. They are too expensive for common people to consume.
B. They are too difficult for people to continuously operate.
C. They can’t collect accurate data due to pulse wave changes.
D. They are useless for people with cardiovascular diseases.
22. How did the researchers improve pulse signal detection in their design?
A. By decreasing the number of sensors on the wrist.
B. By combining adaptive pressure and multiple wrist locations.
C. By using artificial intelligence to replace traditional methods.
D. By only concentrating on shallow pulse measurements.
23. What is the purpose of writing this text?
A. To introduce the current problems of producing wearable pulse sensors.
B. To describe why researchers collect accurate pulse data with 3D printing.
C. To explain the principles of pulse monitoring in traditional Chinese medicine.
D. To show the application of traditional Chinese medicine in pulse monitoring.
24. What is the best title for the text?
A. Old Wisdom Meets New Tech: TCM Inspires Pulse Sensors.
B. Old methods in New Devices: TCM Adopts AI for Pulse Analysis.
C. Old Herbs Meet Digital Tools: TCM builds New Sensor Software.
D. Old ideas in Modern Machines: TCM carries Pulse Sensor Errors.
三、完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
When people find out my son Sam is a competitive mathlete, they usually ask if my husband and I are “math persons”. The answer is definitely not.
Ninth grade was 25 for Sam. To prepare for a competition, he took multiple practice tests, which were sometimes as long as three hours. In the end, he didn’t do as well as he’d hoped and was 26 by a math camp he’d applied to.
He wandered into my office one day last spring, murmuring.
“I just feel like the whole year’s been a 27 .”
I get it. How many days-weeks, months-have I “wasted” writing the 28 scene over and over again? Writing a novel sometimes feels like two steps forward, one step back. But whenever I feel like that, I try to 29 myself that no matter what happens with my book, I’ve 30 the time I’ve spent working on it. The delight I find in writing is 31 for me.
“Nothing’s ever wasted. You may not have gotten the 32 you wanted, but as you try to solve the 33 problems, you are making progress with each effort you make.”
He shrugged (耸肩) . “I feel like everyone else did better than me.”
Sam was talking about the 34 boards, where math kids come together to share resources and, more often than not, 35 their wins.
“I know it feels that way, but it isn’t true. You know people 36 their successes far more than their 37 ," I said, as much to myself as to Sam.
Just like Sam, I can’t control the 38 , only my input. To devote time to something with no guarantee of its success is risky and terrifying. But, then again, so is everything.
And you don’t need to be a(n) 39 person to know that.

四、语法填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
More than 270 representatives(代表) from over 20 countries, regions and international organizations praised China’s Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway, 40 smart high-speed railway that operates at 350 km/h, which is one of the 41 (fast) in the world, after riding the line on July 11. The China Academy of Railway Sciences and China Railway Beijing Group organized the technical visit.
Ali Abdollahi, a representative from Iran, 42 (praise) the service quality: “Everything is so 43 (comfort), and the carriages are clean and tidy. I think China has the most advanced high-speed railway system in the world, 44 performance amazes us!”
The Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway successfully integrates smart technology into its construction, 45 (equip) and daily operations. Throughout the entire line, the railway uses advanced 46 (technology), including big data analysis, artificial intelligence and the Beidou Satellite Navigation System, its Fuxing trains 47 (feature) automatic driving capabilities that reduce energy consumption 48 7.77%.
Since opening in 2019, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway 49 (carry) more than 67 million passengers. The improved transport capacity and services have strongly promoted the coordinated (协同的) development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
International representatives traveled on a Fuxing CR400BF-GT train bound for Taizicheng Station and watched detailed presentations about the high-speed rail network and the Beijing-Zhangjiakou line during the journey.
