When a person has a growth mindset, they tend to see all experiences — positive and negative — as learning opportunities. 1 . Instead, they’ll receive it as information to make their path forward more productive. For example, consider a student who receives a C on their math midterm exam. With a growth mindset, this student may review the exam and seek help to understand the concepts they didn’t grasp. 2 The concept of a growth mindset comes from the research of Dr. Carol Dweck, a psychologist and Stanford University professor who studies success and motivation. She identified the concept when researching the differences between people (namely, students) who succeed and those who don’t. 3 . Those with a growth mindset tended to find success more frequently and easily than those with a fixed mindset. 4 . While a growth mindset embraces the possibility of growth and change, a fixed mindset believes that abilities are set and unchangeable. A person with a fixed mindset views setbacks as failures and may even attribute those failures to their inherent lack of talent. Consider again the student who receives a C on their math midterm. With a fixed mindset, this student will see that grade as evidence that they are just not good at math and cannot, no matter how hard they try, grasp mathematical concepts. 5 , adopting a growth mindset can be one of the most beneficial things you can do to enable your success. With a growth mindset, you’ll be mentally prepared to deal with challenges, enjoy the learning process, and see your progress, whether big or small. A.If you are striving to achieve a goal B.They won’t view a setback as a failure C.When a person decides to change his mindset D.A fixed mindset is the opposite of a growth mindset E.One great difference between the two groups: their mindset F.The first thing to do is trust that you can change your mindset G.They may also look for opportunities to improve their grade further Passage 2 Once upon a time societies were organized around religion, then around industry. But something else is becoming more important in today’s world: information. 1 And the technology that we use to do this is called 24—hour news, e-commerce, international communication, mobile phones, global positioning systems. All these are making the world smaller and faster. The growth in telecommunications is now giving more and more people access to the science that will help their country develop, or to the medical knowledge that can fight disease. It is starting a real global village, where people only dreamed of a generation ago. 2 Billions of people cannot read those words because they do not have access to a computer. They don’t understand English either—the language that around half of the information on the Internet is written in. They don’t even have a telephone. They are more worried about how far they will have to walk today to get clean water or if they can feed themselves and their families. For most people on this planet, information is not a priority. The contrast between countries that have information technology and those that don’t is called the “digital divide”. Scandinavia and South East Asia have a high number of people who use Information and Communication technologies. 3 The United Nations is trying to make the information society a reality for more of the world’s developing world. 4 It wants to see rich countries share their technology and knowledge to poorer nations. This will improve business, medicine, science and agriculture, and create new opportunities and employment. At the same time, cultures, languages and traditions will become stronger. World internet use has been growing massively—by about a billion users every five years—and now nearly half of the world is connected to the Internet. But does information come with freedom? 5 Information is power, so who will people share it? Doesn’t more information mean fewer jobs? And how can most of the world’s people keep local cultures alive if most of them are only connected to broadband and outside media in one language? A.The digital divide will soon disappear completely. B.It focuses on sharing technology, care and education. C.Central Africa and the Pacific have relatively very few. D.There are still many questions about the information age. E.Information is flowing around the world every hour of every day. F.What about the impact of information on different aspects of life? G.But can everybody in the world share the recent technological advances? Passage 3 Patterns can be defined as predictable events or recurring responses to a specific situation. Our lives are often played out as a series of patterns. 1 Bad habits are patterns of behaviour that are deeply wired into our lifestyles because of constant repetition. These habits may include more harmless ones such as eating loudly or dumping your shoes on the floor instead of putting them in the closet; the more moderate ones include procrastination (拖延) and gossiping; and the more insidious ones such as gaming, drug, alcoholic addiction. 2 The adult brain can create new neurons (神经元) as well as trim and change existing neural pathways. Rewiring our brains to break patterns is possible. 3 Poverty comes with a host of problems and this elephant in the room cannot be ignored. There is no silver bullet to this complex problem, but thankfully, there are always rags-to-riches stories to show us it is possible and necessary to break the patterns of poverty. Arguably, there are patterns that are beneficial to our lives such as an exercise or study routine. 4 However, patterns create predictable results and when we choose to keep to outdated patterns, we limit ourselves to an expected outcome. 5 If the study routine one has been following is not inspiring and does not help one to achieve his or her goals, isn’t it better to discard it? James Dyson, the inventor of the first bagless vacuum cleaner, made no fewer than 5,000 changes to his innovation before he got it right. If following a pattern of doing things leads us to failure and stagnation (停滞), it is better to disrupt the pattern than continue with it. A.We need to put an end to them. B.We should certainly keep them. C.The cycle of poverty is a pattern that exists worldwide. D.It sometimes results in a sacrifice of growth and creativity. E.Breaking these patterns of behaviour is key to ending the habit. F.It is often not easy to break a pattern that has been rooted in a person or in a system. G.Most of us are stuck inside certain patterns, some of which are better broken than continued. Passage 4 Time capsules are not only fun to create but also become treasures when opened years later. 1 By following these key steps, you can ensure your capsule preserves memories effectively for its future audience — whether yourself, family, or strangers. 2 Tailor contents to who will open it. For yourself, select personal reminders like daily-use earbuds, an old key, or a favorite takeout menu. For children or grandchildren, combine significant family items (e. g., wedding invitations) with era-defining objects, such as current technology, to showcase both personal and historical context. 3 For the far future discoverers, focus on the era you are in. Things that may seem to be of little value now may fascinate someone in 100 years. Pick an appropriate container to use for your time capsule. Use a shoebox or old suitcase for short-term, indoor storage. These are portable and convenient. 4 If you plan to place the capsule outdoors or bury it, select a container that is likely to survive, like a commercial or home-built stainless steel, or PVC plastic capsule. Fasten the capsule tightly and store it appropriately. While burial may not be the best choice, it is the classic way to store your capsule. One positive side is that it is less likely to be removed or opened early. 5 Indoor time capsules are a secure alternative. While more inviting to open, consider this approach for shorter term storage. With thoughtful preparation, your time capsule will bridge generations and spark curiosity in the future. A.Prioritize including items that are small and easy to store. B.However, such materials may be destroyed by fire or floods. C.Choose items to include in your time capsule for your audience. D.On the other hand, buried capsules risks exposure to groundwater. E.The key lies in balancing emotional value with practical preservation. F.A metal lockbox, though heavier, provides better security than plastic containers. G.For example, a smartphone today can demonstrate our tech trends to future generations. Passage 5 As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book. 1 They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us. This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library. It’s a collection that reflects my journey through the world of words. My library is not vast, but each book is carefully chosen. I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging from classic literature to contemporary fiction. 2 Each type offers a different perspective, a new way of looking at life. While some books challenge my thinking, others provide comfort. It’s important to have a balance. A well-organized library is like a well-balanced diet for the mind. Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell. Austen's sharp observations on society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming. Orwell, on the other hand, offers a stark (冷峻的) view of the world. 3 Both authors, though different in style, have taught me invaluable lessons about humanity. 4 Biographies (传记) and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary individuals. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms. Reading about the struggles and successes of others can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind. My library is a reflection of who I am. It’s a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and guides in times of uncertainty. 5 A.I also enjoy non-fiction. B.I believe in the power of variety. C.My library goes beyond a collection of books. D.His stories are a warning and a call to action. E.Through them, I continue to explore, to grow, and to dream. F.The stories we read shape our world view and broaden our minds. G.Historical fiction, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. Passage 6 Have you ever wished there were a magic method to make learning easier and more efficient? 1 Named after a Nobel winner in physics known for simplifying complex ideas, this method can help you unlock your potential and gain a deep understanding of various topics. Step 1: Start by getting a blank sheet of paper. Write down everything you already know about a topic. This serves as your initial knowledge base. As you dive deeper into the topic, continue to add new information and insights to your sheet. Be patient during this process. 2 Step 2: Explain your topic in a way that a 12-year-old child could understand. 3 Begin by simplifying your notes. It’s easy to complicate a subject. However, the true challenge, and the true demonstration of understanding, is in simplification. Only someone who truly comprehends a subject can break it down into its simplest terms, making it accessible to people of all ages. Step 3: Write down your explanations. It is a powerful tool in the learning process. This activity facilitates reflection, through which we identify areas where further learning is needed. The learning process is iterative (迭代的). Never hesitate to go back to the source materials, especially the parts you don’t fully grasp yet. 4 Repeat this process until your explanations are simple and clear. Step 4: Save the page where you have documented simplified explanations. This is an important step, as this document will serve as a valuable reference in the future. By applying this technique to all new concepts you learn, you will gradually build up a comprehensive folder (文件夹) of knowledge. 5 This way, not only will you be strengthening what you have learned, but you will also have the chance to improve your understanding over time. A.This is an effective test of your understanding. B.Look no further than the Feynman Technique. C.Learning is not a race, but a journey of discovery. D.Make it a habit to review this folder a few times a year. E.This folder contains other people’s complicated explanations. F.Review these parts, reflect on them, and improve your understanding. G.The Feynman technique breaks the learning process into four broad steps. Passage 7 Learning English through news is a great way to improve your vocabulary and listening skills and learn about current events. You can choose from written, audio, video and live TV news. 1 . Typically, English news is with clear English. Most journalists and newsreaders write and speak in Standard English and express themselves well. Their job is to give facts and summarize events for the public. English news can be easier for ESL (English as a second language) learners to understand. 2 It also provides them with unlimited access to the modern language used by English native speakers today. Modern news media also provides a constant stream of real-life English conversations and fresh information! 3 When you learn English through news, you have the chance to find out what is happening in the world right now, make comments and interact with others in the social media. 4 This gives you more choices when learning the language. If you prefer reading, there are online newspapers and news websites for ESL students. If you want to improve your listening and vocabulary skills, there are also TV news channels, radio stations and podcasts (播客). Popular stories often appear in all of these formats. Finally, fresh news arrives daily on every imaginable topic! 5 All you have to do is looking online! If you are not interested in politics and “serious” news, why not focus on sports news or the latest from the music scene? A.That is because it has clear context and presentation. B.Moreover, English news comes in many different forms. C.This is especially beneficial for those wanting to learn Standard English. D.Here are some useful tips for helping you improve your English. E.Even the word “news” comes from the Latin term “nova”, meaning “new things”. F.And English news is worth including in your study plan for the following reasons. G.Whatever you like, you’ll always be able to find news articles and stories relevant to it. Passage 8 Facial expressions are the primary way people show emotion and understand the feelings of others. Happiness, sadness, disgust, fear and surprise can be communicated through facial expressions alone. 1 Fortunately, you can regain some control over communication by working with what you have left — the eyes. If you want to increase understanding with a masked individual, you should look them in the eyes. 2 Eye contact needs extra brain power and becomes uncomfortable after only three seconds. But bear in mind, eye contact can also make you appear more intelligent and trustworthy. You might be surprised how much information is conveyed by the body itself. For instance, when someone is happy, they lift their head; when they are sad, they drop their head. Learning how people use their bodies to convey emotion may help reduce the uncertainty you feel when communicating with someone in a mask. 3 When engaged in a conversation, you can appear more attentive by turning your body toward the individual, leaning in or nodding. To let another person know you want to start speaking, straighten your posture, or nod more frequently. Don’t forget the impact of your voice. 4 Along with the actual words, you also use volume, tone and pauses to convey your message. For instance, a whisper may indicate sadness or insecurity, whereas a higher-pitched shout could show anger or intensity. 5 As long as you adopt proper manners, good communication still can be achieved though faces are partially covered. A.It may be easier said than done. B.Become aware of your own body language, too. C.It’s not just what you say, but it’s how you say it. D.Social distance doesn’t have to mean socially distant. E.Raising your voice can alter the message you are trying to send. F.But when part of the face is masked, it becomes tougher to recognize them. G.You can use your body and voice to convey the emotions your mask might hide. Passage 9 There are two types of skills that managers look for in the interviews with job seekers: soft skills and hard skills. 1 Soft skills, unlike hard skills, are usually inborn or gained through personal development. They cover key personality-based aspects of what makes someone a good fit for a given role. Some examples of soft skills include: dependability, positive attitude, listening skills, emotional intelligence and so on. Soft skills are extremely important for job seekers to be considered right for the position. 2 Soft skills are harder to teach. Personality features like listening skills and decision-making skills are not transferable skills in the same way that many technical abilities are. Employers value someone with strong communication skills and other soft skills because those skills are much harder to teach. Soft skills make hard skills easier to learn. 3 Specific skills like good verbal communication and dependability will make you ready to train hard skills, and thus grow quickly within a job. 4 If you are looking for a new job but don’t have much experience, showing your strong soft skills can ease doubt employers might have about you. A recent survey revealed that 89% of interviewers would choose an interviewee with excellent soft skills over one with experience. Employers see soft skills beneficial to a job seeker’s future growth and career success. 5 A.Hard skills matter in the interview. B.Soft skills can help enrich experience. C.Here are reasons why soft skills are important. D.So, show them your soft skills in the interview. E.Soft skills can make up for a lack of experience. F.Having important soft skills helps you develop a set of hard skills. G.Hard skills are job-specific skills learned through training programs. Passage 10 People are always living with technology nowadays. Here comes a smart home, which is controlled by the touch of a button. 1 This acts like a remote control to activate household systems and monitor inside temperatures. If done successfully, a smart home system will be integrated so smoothly that a household will appear to run itself. Home automation is designed to introduce efficiency to a home. 2 An efficient smart home uses sensors to prevent over watering of outdoor gardens and control room temperatures, all of which can reduce expenses. In addition to cost savings, home automation often provides a sense of security to homeowners. Families with children or elderly adults in the home may be reassured by some safeguards in smart home security, like fire alarms that alert the appropriate agencies in the event of a problem. Lighting activation runs on timers, which can be a life saver if an oven is left on when someone leaves the home. 3 Home automation is not just for safety, however. 4 With a centralized control unit, a person does not have to leave the couch to turn down the blinds or even order groceries, which can be automated. 5 Such a home becomes dependent on technology for routine tasks. If something goes wrong with the central automation unit, it is not just one appliance at risk as malfunctions can disrupt systems that are vital to running a home. As a result, for all people, a home can become a place of technical faults that repeatedly require repair. A.Smart devices can talk to each other. B.It achieves this by saving homeowners time and money. C.There are some drawbacks with an automated home system. D.It can also provide convenience for people living in the home. E.Through home automation, an entire house can be connected via a smart controller. F.Besides protecting people, it also offers security for expensive items inside a residence. G.Home automation enables you to operate your equipment with the sound of your voice. Passage 11 When people first come across the Law of Attraction (吸引力法则), their hearts and minds often immediately think of one specific thing that they’d love to achieve in their lives. However, the next thought is often “But I can’t do that”. You may come up with all kinds of excuses. 1 Here are the reasons why you should believe you can use the Law of Attraction to obtain whatever you want. Small steps create big changes. One of the most common reasons for abandoning dreams is that they simply seem too huge to realize. Usually it’s manageable to think of following your dream as taking a series of significant but small steps. 2 Then look at each of them. Not so unrealistic now, is it? 3 When people are interviewed on their deathbeds or write about their lives in autobiographies (自传), it is often observed that major regrets tend to relate to things that were not done. In older age, it’s likely that you will be uncomfortable with the idea that you didn’t even try to do the thing that you loved or attempt to obtain what you truly wanted. 4 But you don’t ever need to feel this way! Make today the first day of your new journey towards avoiding regret. Steps towards your dream are never backwards steps. Another common worry is that if you follow your dreams, you’ll be “taking steps back”. 5 However, what looks like backward steps in your old life can more productively and accurately be seen as forwarding steps in the brand new life you’re creating. A.You can avoid regret. B.It makes sense to move forward confidently. C.Luckily, the truth is that it’s never too late to follow your dream. D.It often comes up when people are at the top of careers they hate. E.It is painful to feel like you haven’t ever found your true purpose. F.For example, challenge yourself to write down the path to success in ten stages. G.You have enough life experience and knowledge to make changes to pursue your dream. Passage 12 “If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need.” This is a piece of wise advice from Warren Buffet, arguably one of the greatest financial minds of the 21st century. 1 This is true especially in the present economic climate. While the idea of being frugal(节俭的) has long been a part of Eastern culture, the relatively recent growth of wealth in China as well as the ease of purchasing has led to increased consumerism for many across the country. Yet this increased consumption of goods has been pushing up the prices of certain bare essentials such as housing, transportation and food, which is forcing people to reevaluate their priorities while spending money. 2 The internet is flooded with advice on where one can save money as well as good opinions about how they should spend their money. For example, clothes can be bought second-hand, but you should never skip a visit to the dentist. 3 In the meanwhile, you should limit those that are fancy but not entirely necessary. Of course, it is still fine to occasionally spend money on a nice vacation, but buying thirty pairs of shoes you will only wear a few times is neither responsible nor sustainable. Hopefully, we all fully understand at this point that the resources on the earth are indeed limited. 4 As a result, the choice (forced or not) to be frugal is not only good for one’s wallet, but also beneficial to the planet in the long run. Have you ever chosen to starve yourself to get a pair of limited-edition sneakers? 5 A.A continuous growth model on this planet is by no means sustainable. B.These words have always not been taken seriously by young people. C.They are meant to encourage people to buy more stuff than they need. D.It makes sense to prioritize goods and services that directly affect your health. E.It is no wonder then that being frugal is once again becoming a dominant trend. F.Many young people today appear to be taking these words very much to heart. G.If so, it is high time you started making changes for yourself and for all humanity. Passage 13 Fitness Magazine recently ran an article titled “Five Reasons to Thank Your Workout Partner.” One reason was: “You’ll actually show up if you know someone is waiting for you at the gym, ” while another read: “ 1 ”  With a workout partner, you will increase your training effort as there is a subtle (微妙) competition. So, how do you find a workout partner? First of all, decide what you want from that person. 2 Or do you just want to be physically fit, able to move with strength and flexibility? Think about the exercises you would like to do with your workout partner. You might think about posting what you are looking for on social media, but it probably won’t result in a useful response. 3 If you plan on working out in a gym, that person must belong to the same gym. My partner posted her request on the notice board of a local park. Her notice included what kind of training she wanted to do, how many days a week and how many hours she wanted to spend on each session, and her age. It also listed her favorite sports and activities, and provided her phone number. 4 You and your partner will probably have different skills. 5 Over time, both of you will benefit—your partner will be able to lift more weights and you will become more physically fit. The core (核心) of your relationship is that you will always be there to help each other. A.Your first meeting may be a little awkward. B.A workout partner usually needs to live close by. C.You’ll work harder if you train with someone else. D.Do you want to be a better athlete in your favorite sport? E.How can you write a good “seeking training partner” notice? F.Just accept your differences and learn to work with each other. G.Any notice for a training partner should include such information. Passage 14 When people look at mountains, they often feel a desire to climb to the top. People realize the great rewards that mountains will give them if they reach the top. 1 . It’s little wonder, therefore, that climbing mountains is such a popular activity. Casual mountain climbing is an excellent form of exercise. People enjoy the fresh air and natural scenery on these climbs. As they get higher, the views across valley plains and forests get longer. 2 These hikes can be exhausting and even the fittest people will breathe heavier and have to take rests. At the next level of mountain climbing, people require handrails(扶手)to get up the mountain. The path is very narrow or too steep in some places to walk up. 3 . climbers must be physically fit and maintain good concentration. When climbing a mountain with any danger, climbers should be with at least one other person. 4 . For example, in a group of three climbers, all should be attached to the same rope. The rope will be needed as a support when there are no rails---or rocks to hold. The best and most experienced climber should go first and must go slow when the others feel uncomfortable. The top level of mountain climbing is a very serious activity. At this stage, climbers go vertically(垂直地)up a rock face. This is very dangerous and should only be done when the climber has many years of experience. Climbers who climb this way need iron spikes(大钉)to be hammered into splits in the rock wall. At the end of the iron spikes, there are hooks that can be attached to ropes. 5 . A.If you’ re a good vertical mountain climber B.Even though the paths might be easy to follow C.Since climbing a mountain this way can be dangerous D.Safety is most important in any form of mountain climbing E.They include a personal sense of achievement and a wonderful view F.The third level of mountain climbing involves using ropes with other climbers G.Other hooks are also needed to attach the climbers to the rope and to each other Passage 15 Why Do We Get Angry? Anger seems simple when we are feeling it, but the causes of anger are various. Knowing these causes can make us examine our behavior, and correct bad habits. The main reasons we get angry are triggering(触发)events, personality traits(特征), and our assessment of situations. 1 Triggering events for anger are so many that to describe them all would take hundreds of pages. However, here are some examples: being cut off in traffic, a deadline approaching, experiencing physical pain, and much more. 2 The reason why someone is triggered by something and others are not is often due to one’s personal history and psychological traits. Each person, no matter who they are, has psychological imbalances. People who have personality traits that connect with competitiveness and low upset tolerance are much more likely to get angry. 3 Also, sometimes pre-anger does not have to do with a lasting condition, but rather a temporary state before a triggering event has occurred. 4 Sometimes even routine occurrences become sources of pre-anger, or anger itself. Sometimes ignorance and negative (消极的) outlooks on situations can create anger. 5 However, anger can easily turn violent, and it is best to know the reasons for anger to appear in order to prevent its presence. With these main reasons in mind, we can evaluate our level of anger throughout the day and prevent cases of outbursts by comprehending the reasons for our feelings. A.Our attitude and viewpoint on situations can create anger within us as well. B.But some types of situations can help us to get rid of the occurrence of anger. C.Anger is rarely looked upon as a beneficial character trait, and is usually advised to reduce it. D.Anger is a particularly strong feeling and maybe people think that they have reasons to feel angry. E.Having these personality traits implies the pre-anger state, where anger is in the background of your mind. F.Understanding these reasons will control our own anger if we are willing to evaluate ourselves with a critical eye. G.Not everyone acts the same in response to events, and that is why what triggers one person may or may not trigger another. Passage 1 A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed over time. A.If you are striving to achieve a goal B.They won’t view a setback as a failure C.When a person decides to change his mindset D.A fixed mindset is the opposite of a growth mindset E.One great difference between the two groups: their mindset F.The first thing to do is trust that you can change your mindset G.They may also look for opportunities to improve their grade further 【答案】1.B 2.G 3.E 4.D 5.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 1.上文“When a person has a growth mindset, they tend to see all experiences — positive and negative — as learning opportunities. (当一个人拥有成长型心态时,他们倾向于把所有的经历——积极的和消极的——都看作是学习的机会。)”提到,拥有成长型思维模式的人会将所有经历都视为学习机会。B项“他们不会将挫折视为失败”与上文逻辑连贯,进一步解释他们如何对待挫折,且与下文“Instead, they’ll receive it as information to make their path forward more productive. (相反,他们会把它作为一种信息来接受,使他们的前进道路更有成效。)”构成转折递进关系。故选B。 2.上文“For example, consider a student who receives a C on their math midterm exam. With a growth mindset, this student may review the exam and seek help to understand the concepts they didn’t grasp. (例如,考虑一个学生在数学期中考试中得了C。有了成长型思维,这个学生可能会复习考试,并寻求帮助来理解他们没有掌握的概念。)”以数学考试为例,描述了成长型思维模式学生的做法:回顾考试并寻求帮助来理解未掌握的概念。G项“他们可能还会寻找机会进一步提高成绩”是对其行为的自然延续,展示了成长型思维模式的具体行动。故选G。 3.上文“The concept of a growth mindset comes from the research of Dr. Carol Dweck, a psychologist and Stanford University professor who studies success and motivation. She identified the concept when researching the differences between people (namely, students) who succeed and those who don’t. (成长型心态的概念来自斯坦福大学研究成功与动机的心理学家兼教授卡罗尔·德韦克博士的研究。她在研究成功人士(即学生)与失败人士之间的差异时,发现了这个概念。)”指出Dweck博士在研究成功与不成功人群之间的差异时提出了这一概念。E项“这两组人之间一个巨大的差异在于他们的思维模式”既回答了上文的研究关注点 ——“差异”,又引出下文的两种思维模式对比,起到承上启下的作用。故选E。 4.下文“(While a growth mindset embraces the possibility of growth and change, a fixed mindset believes that abilities are set and unchangeable. A person with a fixed mindset views setbacks as failures and may even attribute those failures to their inherent lack of talent. (成长心态拥抱成长和改变的可能性,而固定心态则认为能力是固定不变的。一个有固定心态的人把挫折看作是失败,甚至可能把这些失败归咎于他们天生缺乏天赋。)”开始详细描述“固定型思维模式”并与“成长型思维模式”形成对比。D项“固定型思维模式与成长型思维模式相反”是总起句,自然引出后文的对比说明。故选D。 5.下文“adopting a growth mindset can be one of the most beneficial things you can do to enable your success. (采用成长型思维模式可能是让你获得成功的最有益的事情之一)”是在强调成长型思维对追求成功的作用。A 选项“如果你正在努力实现一个目标”以假设条件引出下文的建议,逻辑连贯,符合语境。故选 A 。 Passage 2 Once upon a time societies were organized around religion, then around industry. 1.上文“Once upon a time societies were organized around religion, then around industry. But something else is becoming more important in today’s world: information.(曾几何时,社会是围绕宗教组织的,然后是围绕工业组织的。但在当今世界,另一种东西正变得越来越重要:信息)”提到如今信息变得更重要,下文“And the technology that we use to do this is called information—hour news, e-commerce, international communication, mobile phones, global positioning systems.(我们用来做这件事的技术被称为信息小时新闻,电子商务,国际交流,移动电话,全球定位系统)”说明了我们传递信息的方式,E选项“Information is flowing around the world every hour of every day.(信息每时每刻都在世界各地流动)”进一步阐述了信息在当前世界的情况,与前文强调信息的重要性以及后文提到的信息传递技术相呼应,说明信息处于不断流动状态,符合语境。故选E。 2.后文“Billions of people cannot read those words because they do not have access to a computer. They don’t understand English either—the language that around half of the information on the Internet is written in. They don’t even have a telephone.(数十亿人无法阅读这些文字,因为他们没有电脑。他们也不懂英语——互联网上大约一半的信息都是用英语写的。他们甚至没有电话)”指出数十亿人因没有电脑、不懂英语甚至没有电话,无法获取信息,对他们来说信息并非首要之事。G选项“But can everybody in the world share the recent technological advances?(但是世界上每个人都能分享最近的技术进步吗?)” 3.空前“The contrast between countries that have information technology and those that don’t is called the “digital divide”. Scandinavia and South East Asia have a high number of people who use Information and Communication technologies.(拥有信息技术的国家和没有信息技术的国家之间的对比被称为“数字鸿沟”。斯堪的纳维亚和东南亚有很多人使用信息和通信技术)”提到“数字鸿沟”和“斯堪的纳维亚半岛和东南亚使用信息和通信技术的人数众多”。C选项“Central Africa and the Pacific have relatively very few.(中非和太平洋地区相对较少)”与前文形成对比,通过列举中非和太平洋地区使用信息技术人数少的情况,进一步说明了“数字鸿沟”的存在,符合语境。故选C。 4.空前“The United Nations is trying to make the information society a reality for more of the world’s developing world.(联合国正努力使信息社会成为世界上更多发展中国家的现实)”提到联合国正努力让信息社会在世界上更多发展中地区成为现实,后文“It wants to see rich countries share their technology and knowledge to poorer nations.(它希望看到富裕国家向贫穷国家分享他们的技术和知识)”之处联合国希望看到富裕国家与贫穷国家分享技术和知识。B选项“It focuses on sharing technology, care and education.(它专注于分享技术、关怀和教育)”中“sharing technology”与后文“rich countries share their technology and knowledge to poorer nations”相呼应,说明了联合国努力的方向。故选B。 5.空后“Information is power, so who will people share it? Doesn’t more information mean fewer jobs? And how can most of the world’s people keep local cultures alive if most of them are only connected to broadband and outside media in one language?(信息就是力量,那么谁来分享呢?更多的信息不就意味着更少的工作吗?如果世界上大多数人只用一种语言连接宽带和外部媒体,他们又如何保持当地文化的活力呢?)”列举了一些问题,D选项“There are still many questions about the information age.(关于信息时代仍有许多问题)”直接引出了后文关于信息时代的一系列疑问,起到了总领下文的作用。故选D。 Passage 3 Patterns can be defined as predictable events or recurring responses to a specific situation. 1.根据上文“Patterns can be defined as predictable events or recurring responses to a specific situation. Our lives are often played out as a series of patterns. (模式可定义为对特定情况的可预测事件或重复反应。我们的生活往往以一系列模式展开。)”可知,此空应进一步说明人们在生活模式中的状态。G选项“Most of us are stuck inside certain patterns, some of which are better broken than continued. (我们大多数人被困在特定的模式中,其中一些模式最好被打破而不是继续下去。)”中的内容与上文相承接,同时引出下文对不同模式的讨论,符合语境。故选G项。 2.根据上文“These habits may include more harmless ones such as eating loudly or dumping your shoes on the floor instead of putting them in the closet; the more moderate ones include procrastination (拖延) and gossiping; and the more insidious ones such as gaming, drug, alcoholic addiction.”(这些习惯中,有些危害较小,比如吃饭吧唧嘴、把鞋子随手扔在地板上而不是放进鞋柜;中等程度的习惯包括拖延和八卦;而更隐蔽的恶习则有沉迷游戏、吸毒和酗酒。)可知,此处介绍了这些坏习惯的危害,结合下文“The adult brain can create new neurons (神经元) as well as trim and change existing neural pathways. Rewiring our brains to break patterns is possible. (成年大脑既能生成新的神经元,也能修剪和改变既有的神经通路。因此,重塑大脑以打破固有模式是可行的。)”可知,空处承上启下,应强调打破行为模式的作用。E选项“Breaking these patterns of behaviour is key to ending the habit. (打破这些行为模式是终结习惯的关键。)”中的“打破这些行为模式”与下文“重塑大脑以打破模式”相呼应,衔接上文对不同坏习惯的列举,符合语境。故选E项。 3.根据空后的“Poverty comes with a host of problems and this elephant in the room cannot be ignored. There is no silver bullet to this complex problem, but thankfully, there are always rags-to-riches stories to show us it is possible and necessary to break the patterns of poverty. (贫困往往伴随一系列问题,而这个不容忽视的棘手难题始终存在。虽然没有解决这一复杂问题的万全之策,但所幸总有白手起家的励志故事向我们证明:打破贫困的固有模式不仅可能,而且必要。)”可知,本段围绕贫困循环这一模式展开。C选项“The cycle of poverty is a pattern that exists worldwide. (贫困循环是一种在世界范围内存在的模式。)”直接点明本段核心话题,符合语境。故选C项。 4.根据上文“Arguably, there are patterns that are beneficial to our lives such as an exercise or study routine. (可以说,有些模式对我们的生活有益,例如锻炼或学习常规。)”可知,此空应说明对有益模式的态度。B选项“We should certainly keep them. (我们当然应该保留它们。)”中的“keep them与“beneficial to our lives”相呼应,符合语境。故选B项。 5.根据上文“However, patterns create predictable results and when we choose to keep to outdated patterns, we limit ourselves to an expected outcome. (然而,模式会产生可预测的结果,当我们选择坚持过时的模式时,我们就把自己限制在预期的结果中。)”可知,此空应进一步说明坚持过时模式的负面影响。D选项“It sometimes results in a sacrifice of growth and creativity. (它有时会导致牺牲成长和创造力。)”中的“It”指代“keep to outdated patterns”(坚持过时模式),具体阐释坚持过时模式的影响,符合语境。故选D项。 Passage 4 Time capsules are not only fun to create but also become treasures when opened years later. 【答案】1.E 2.C 3.G 4.B 5.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章围绕如何制作时间胶囊展开,提供了详细的步骤和建议,旨在指导读者有效地创建和保存时间胶囊,以便在未来打开时能够成为珍贵的回忆或宝藏。 1.根据上文“Time capsules are not only fun to create but also become treasures when opened years later.(时间胶囊不仅制作起来很有趣,而且多年后打开时也会成为宝藏。)”可知,上文提到时间胶囊不仅有趣而且日后打开会成为珍宝;而下文则指出“By following these key steps, you can ensure your capsule preserves memories effectively for its future audience — whether yourself, family, or strangers.(通过遵循以下关键步骤,你可以确保你的时间胶囊能有效地为未来的受众——无论是你自己、家人还是陌生人——保存记忆。)”则指出通过一些关键步骤能有效保存记忆。选项E“The key lies in balancing emotional value with practical preservation.(关键在于平衡情感价值与实际的保存效果。)”起到承上启下的作用,说明制作时间胶囊的关键要点,符合语境。故选E。 2.根据下文“Tailor contents to who will open it. For yourself, select personal reminders like daily-use earbuds, an old key, or a favorite takeout menu. For children or grandchildren, combine significant family items (e. g., wedding invitations) with era-defining objects, such as current technology, to showcase both personal and historical context.(根据打开时间胶囊的人来挑选里面的物品。 C“Choose items to include in your time capsule for your audience.(为你的时间胶囊选择适合目标受众的物品放入其中。)”作为该段主旨句,引出下文对不同受众应选物品的阐述,符合语境。故选C。 3.根据上文“For children or grandchildren, combine significant family items (e. g., wedding invitations) with era-defining objects, such as current technology, to showcase both personal and historical context.(如果你是为孩子或孙子孙女制作,那就把重要的家庭物品(比如婚礼请柬)和具有时代特征的物品结合起来,比如当下的科技产品,以此来展示个人记忆和历史背景。)”可知,上文提到为子孙选择物品时要结合重要家庭物品和具有时代特征的物品。选项G“For example, a smartphone today can demonstrate our tech trends to future generations.(例如,如今的一部智能手机可以向子孙后代展示我们的科技发展趋势。)”举例说明了具有时代特征的物品(智能手机)对子孙了解时代的作用,符合语境。故选G。 4.根据上文“Use a shoebox or old suitcase for short-term, indoor storage. These are portable and convenient.(如果是短期室内存放,可以使用鞋盒或旧手提箱。这些容器便于携带且很方便。)”可知,上文提到短期室内存储可用鞋盒或旧手提箱,这些便携方便;而下文“If you plan to place the capsule outdoors or bury it, select a container that is likely to survive, like a commercial or home-built stainless steel, or PVC plastic capsule.(如果你打算把时间胶囊放置在室外或埋在地下,那就选择一个有可能经受住时间考验的容器,比如商用的或自制的不锈钢容器,或者聚氯乙烯塑料容器。)”则指出如果计划室外放置或掩埋要选更能保存的容器。选项B“However, such materials may be destroyed by fire or floods.(然而,这些材料可能会被火灾或洪水毁坏。)”指出了鞋盒或旧手提箱这类材料的缺点,起到转折作用,符合语境。故选B。 5.根据上文“While burial may not be the best choice, it is the classic way to store your capsule. One positive side is that it is less likely to be removed or opened early.(虽然埋葬可能不是最好的选择,但它是存放时间胶囊的经典方式。这样做的一个好处是,它不太可能被提前取出或打开。)”可知,埋葬时间胶囊虽然经典且不太可能被提前打开,但有其弊端。选项D“On the other hand, buried capsules risks exposure to groundwater.(另一方面,埋藏的时间胶囊有暴露于地下水的风险。)”进一步阐述了埋葬这种方式存在的风险,与前文构成并列,符合语境。故选D。 Passage 5 As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book. 【答案】1.F 2.B 3.D 4.A 5.E 【导语】本文是记叙文。主要讲述了作者对书籍的热爱,通过阅读,塑造了自己的世界观和人生观。 1.根据前文“As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book.(作为一个热心的读者,我一直认为,了解世界的关键在于一本书的页面)”以及后文“They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us. This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library.(他们向我们介绍了一些和我们周围的人一样真实的人物。读者和文本之间的这种联系使文学如此强大,这也是我珍惜我的个人图书馆的原因)”可知,这里是在说我们读到的故事会给我们带来什么,所以F项“The stories we read shape our world view and broaden our minds.(我们读的故事塑造了我们的世界观,开阔了我们的视野)”承接上文,塑造了我们的世界观也就是上文提到的了解世界,并引出下文,符合文意。故选F项。 2.根据前文“I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging from classic literature to contemporary fiction.(我的藏书种类繁多,从古典文学到当代小说都有)”以及后文“Each type offers a different perspective, a new way of looking at life.(每种类型都提供了不同的视角,一种看待生活的新方式)”可知,这里是说不同类型的书教会我们不同的东西,所以B项“I believe in the power of variety.(我相信变化的力量)”承接上文,引出下文,符合文意。故选B项。 3.根据前文“Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell. Austen's sharp observations on society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming. Orwell, on the other hand, offers a stark (冷峻的) view of the world.(我最喜欢的是简·奥斯汀和乔治·奥威尔的作品。奥斯汀对社会和人际关系的敏锐观察是永恒的。她的角色不完美,但很迷人。另一方面,奥威尔提供了一种冷酷的世界观)”可知,本段主讲简·奥斯汀和乔治·奥威尔,简·奥斯汀已讲完,空处结构应是作者对奥威尔作品的评价,所以D项“His stories are a warning and a call to action.(他的故事是一个警告,也是一个行动的号召)”符合文意,His stories指的就是奥威尔的作品。故选D项。 4.设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“Biographies (传记) and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary individuals. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms. Reading about the struggles and successes of others can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind.(传记和生平故事提供了对非凡人物生活的洞见。他们提醒我们,伟大有多种形式。阅读别人的奋斗和成功故事会给人以难以置信的鼓舞。它提醒我们,我们都有潜力做出改变。这些故事鼓励我反思自己的生活,以及我希望留下的东西)”可知,本段和上文呼应,上文提到作者喜欢的小说,本段为非小说书籍。所以A项“I also enjoy non-fiction.(我也喜欢非小说类作品)”符合文意,为本段中心句。故选A项。 5.设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“My library is a reflection of who I am. It’s a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and guides in times of uncertainty.(我的图书馆反映了我是什么样的人。这是我对学习的热爱和对了解世界的渴望的标志。每本书都是我探索之旅的垫脚石。它们是孤独时的伴侣,迷茫时的向导)”可知,此处讲述书籍对自己的帮助,所以E项“Through them, I continue to explore, to grow, and to dream.(通过它们,我继续探索、成长和梦想)”符合文意,为对前文的总结,在书籍的帮助下,作者继续前行。故选E项。 Passage 6 Have you ever wished there were a magic method to make learning easier and more efficient? 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A 4.F 5.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了费曼技巧的四个步骤,通过简化复杂概念、自我解释、记录反思和定期复习,帮助学习者更高效地掌握知识。 1.根据上文“Have you ever wished there were a magic method to make learning easier and more efficient? Only someone who truly comprehends a subject can break it down into its simplest terms, making it accessible to people of all ages. (从简化你的笔记开始。把一个问题复杂化是很容易的。然而,真正的挑战和理解的真正体现是简化。只有真正理解一门学科的人才能把它分解成最简单的术语,让所有年龄段的人都能理解。)”可知,上文提到了第二步是像向12岁孩子解释一样简化主题。下文接着说简化笔记,说明解释过程的挑战性。因此,空处应该说明解释过程对于检验理解的重要性。A选项“This is an effective test of your understanding. (这是对你理解的有效测试)”强调了解释对于检验理解的重要性,能承上启下,符合语境。故选A。 4.根据上文“Step 3: Write down your explanations. It is a powerful tool in the learning process. This activity facilitates reflection, through which we identify areas where further learning is needed. The learning process is iterative (迭代的). Never hesitate to go back to the source materials, especially the parts you don’t fully grasp yet. (第三步:写下你的解释。它是学习过程中一个强大的工具。这项活动有助于反思,通过反思,我们可以确定需要进一步学习的领域。学习过程是迭代的。毫不犹豫地回到原始材料,特别是你还没有完全掌握的部分。)”和下文“Repeat this process until your explanations are simple and clear. (重复这个过程,直到你的解释简单明了。)”可知,上文提到如果在某些部分理解不够充分,不要犹豫回到原始材料中去。下文要求重复这个过程直到解释变得简单明了。因此,空处应该是建议回顾并改进理解。F选项“Review these parts, reflect on them, and improve your understanding. (回顾这些部分,反思它们,并提高你的理解)”能承上启下,符合语境。故选F。 5.根据上文“Step 4: Save the page where you have documented simplified explanations. This is an important step, as this document will serve as a valuable reference in the future. By applying this technique to all new concepts you learn, you will gradually build up a comprehensive folder (文件夹) of knowledge. (步骤4:保存已记录简化解释的页面。这是重要的一步,因为这份文件将在今后提供有价值的参考。通过将这种方法应用到你学习的所有新概念中,你将逐渐建立一个全面的知识文件夹。)”和下文“This way, not only will you be strengthening what you have learned, but you will also have the chance to improve your understanding over time. (这样,你不仅可以巩固你所学的知识,而且随着时间的推移,你也有机会提高你的理解能力。)”可知,上文提到保存记录简化解释的页面作为未来的参考。下文则强调了定期复习这些资料的重要性。因此,空处应该是建议养成定期复习的习惯。D选项“Make it a habit to review this folder a few times a year. (养成每年复习几次这个文件夹的习惯)”能承上启下,符合语境。故选D。 Passage 7 Learning English through news is a great way to improve your vocabulary and listening skills and learn about current events. 【答案】1.F 2.A 3.E 4.B 5.G 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了如何通过新闻学习英语。 1.根据上文“Learning English through news is a great way to improve your vocabulary and listening skills and learn about current events. You can choose from written, audio, video and live TV news.(通过新闻学习英语是提高词汇量和听力技能以及了解时事的好方法。您可以选择书面、音频、视频和电视直播新闻。)”可知,上文提到学习英语新闻是一个提高词汇量、听力水平和了解时事的好方法,并列出了几种可以选择的新闻形式。接下来应该给出英语新闻的好处或者为什么英语新闻对学习英语有帮助。F项:And English news is worth including in your study plan for the following reasons.(英语新闻值得被纳入你的学习计划,原因如下。)符合语境,其中“the following reasons”为下文的关键词,能很好地引出下文关于英语新闻的具体好处。故选F。 2.根据上文“English news can be easier for ESL (English as a second language) learners to understand.(对于以英语为第二语言(ESL)的学习者来说,英语新闻可能更容易理解。)”可知,空处承接上文,解释英语新闻更容易理解的原因。A项中的“it”指代上文中的“English news”。A项:That is because it has clear context and presentation.(那是因为它有清晰的上下文和表述。)符合语境。故选A。 3.根据上文“Modern news media also provides a constant stream of real-life English conversations and fresh information!(现代新闻媒体还提供了源源不断的真实英语对话和最新资讯!)”可知,空处进一步强调新闻媒体的这一特点。E项中的“new things”与上文中的“fresh information”相呼应。E项:Even the word “news” comes from the Latin term “nova”, meaning “new things”.(甚至“news”这个词也来源于拉丁语“nova”,意为“新事物”。)符合语境。故选E。 4.空处为段落主旨句。根据下文“This gives you more choices when learning the language. If you prefer reading, there are online newspapers and news websites for ESL students. If you want to improve your listening and vocabulary skills, there are also TV news channels, radio stations and podcasts (播客). Popular stories often appear in all of these formats.(这让你在学习语言时有更多的选择。如果你喜欢阅读,有专门为英语作为第二语言(ESL)的学生提供的在线报纸和新闻网站。如果你想提高你的听力和词汇量,还有电视新闻频道、广播电台和播客可供选择。热门的故事常常以所有这些形式出现。)”可知,本段主要讲述了学习英语新闻时,有多种形式可供选择,包括在线报纸、新闻网站、电视新闻频道、广播电台和播客等。B项:Moreover, English news comes in many different forms.(此外,英语新闻有多种形式。)符合语境。故选B。 5.根据上文“Finally, fresh news arrives daily on every imaginable topic!(最后,关于各种能想象到的主题的新鲜新闻每天都会送达!)”可知,上文提到每天会有很多新闻送达,空处承接上文指出新闻话题的多样性。G项:Whatever you like, you’ll always be able to find news articles and stories relevant to it.(无论你喜欢什么,你总能找到与之相关的新闻文章和故事。)符合语境。故选G。 Passage 8 Facial expressions are the primary way people show emotion and understand the feelings of others. 【答案】1.F 2.A 3.B 4.C 5.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了面部表情在人们沟通中的重要作用,以及除了面部表情之外,人们还应该利用眼神交流和肢体语言的方式去沟通。 1.由上文“Facial expressions are the primary way people show emotion and understand the feelings of others. Happiness, sadness, disgust, fear and surprise can be communicated through facial expressions alone. (面部表情是人们表达情感和理解他人感受的主要方式。快乐、悲伤、厌恶、恐惧和惊讶都可以通过面部表情来传达。)”可知,这里主要讲人们可通过面部表情表达各种情感,而F项But when part of the face is masked, it becomes tougher to recognize them.(但当面部的一部分被掩盖时,识别它们变得更加困难。)符合语境,与上文形成转折,其中them指代上文 Happiness, sadness, disgust, fear and surprise。故选F项。 2.由上文“If you want to increase understanding with a masked individual, you should look them in the eyes. (如果你想增进对戴口罩人的理解,你应该直视他们的眼睛。)” 可知,与戴口罩人交流可以看他们的眼睛,而下文“Eye contact needs extra brain power and becomes uncomfortable after only three seconds.(眼神交流需要额外的脑力,仅仅三秒钟后就会变得不舒服。)”可知,眼神交流也并不容易,所以A项It may be easier said than done.(说起来容易做起来难。)符合语境,有承上启下作用,其中It代指前文 you should look them in the eyes。故选A项。 3.由下文“When engaged in a conversation, you can appear more attentive by turning your body toward the individual, leaning in or nodding. To let another person know you want to start speaking, straighten your posture, or nod more frequently.(在交谈中,你可以通过将身体转向对方、身体前倾或点头来显得更加专注。为了让别人知道你想开始说话,挺直你的姿势,或者更频繁地点头。)”可知,这里主要讲在交流中要注意自己的肢体语言,所以B项Become aware of your own body language, too.(也要注意自己的肢体语言。)符合语境,有启下作用。故选B项。 4.由下文“Along with the actual words, you also use volume, tone and pauses to convey your message. For instance, a whisper may indicate sadness or insecurity, whereas a higher- pitched shout could show anger or intensity.(除了实际的单词,你还可以使用音量、语调和停顿来传达你的信息。例如,耳语可能表示悲伤或不安全感,而高音喊叫可能表示愤怒或强烈。)”可知,这里建议要注意说话方式,所以C项It’s not just what you say, but it’s how you say it.(这不仅仅是你说什么,而是你怎么说。)符合语境,有启下作用。故选C项。 5.由下文“As long as you adopt proper manners, good communication still can be achieved though faces are partially covered.(只要你举止得体,即使脸被部分遮住,也能实现良好的沟通。)”可知,本句在总结:即使戴着口罩也能有效地沟通,虽有社交隔离但不会造成社交疏远,而D项Social distance doesn’t have to mean socially distant.(社交隔离并不一定意味着社交疏远。)符合语境,其中socially distant与后文good communication形成对比,有启下作用。故选D项。 Passage 9 There are two types of skills that managers look for in the interviews with job seekers: soft skills and hard skills. 【答案】1.G 2.C 3.F 4.E 5.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了求职者的两种技能:软技能和硬技能以及软技能重要的原因。 1.根据上文“There are two types of skills that managers look for in the interviews with job seekers: soft skills and hard skills.(在面试中,经理们希望求职者具备两种技能:软技能和硬技能)”以及后文“Soft skills, unlike hard skills, are usually inborn or gained through personal development.(与硬技能不同,软技能通常是天生的,或者是通过个人发展获得的)”可知,空处应介绍硬技能的特点。故G选项“硬技能是指通过培训项目学到的特定于工作的技能”承上启下,符合语境,故选G。 2.根据上文“Some examples of soft skills include: dependability, positive attitude, listening skills, emotional intelligence and so on. Soft skills are extremely important for job seekers to be considered right for the position.(软技能的一些例子包括:可靠性,积极的态度,倾听技巧,情商等等。软技能对于求职者来说是非常重要的,因为它被认为是适合这个职位的)”结合后文主要列举了软技能重要的原因,故C选项“以下是为什么软技能很重要的原因”承接上文,引出下文各段落内容,符合语境,故选C。 3.根据上文“Soft skills make hard skills easier to learn.(软技能使困难的硬技能更容易学习)”以及后文“Specific skills like good verbal communication and dependability will make you ready to train hard skills, and thus grow quickly within a job.(像良好的口头沟通和可靠性这样的特殊技能会让你准备好接受艰苦的技能训练,从而在工作中迅速成长)”可知,空处应承接上文,说明软技能是如何使得硬技能更容易学习的,故F选项“拥有重要的软技能可以帮助你培养一套硬技能”承上启下,符合语境,故选F。 4.根据后文“If you are looking for a new job but don’t have much experience, showing your strong soft skills can ease doubt employers might have about you. A recent survey revealed that 89% of interviewers would choose an interviewee with excellent soft skills over one with experience.(如果你正在找一份新工作,但没有太多经验,展示你强大的软技能可以减轻雇主对你的怀疑。最近的一项调查显示,89%的面试官会选择具有优秀软技能的面试者,而不是有经验的面试者)”可知,本段主要说明了软技能在面试中可以弥补经验上的不足。故E选项“软技能可以弥补经验的不足”符合语境,适合作为段落主题句,故选E。 5.根据上文“Employers see soft skills beneficial to a job seeker’s future growth and care er success.(雇主认为软技能有利于求职者的未来发展和成功)”可知,本句为本段最后一句,与上文构成因果关系,指出应该面试展示软技能。故D选项“所以,在面试中向他们展示你的软技能”符合语境,故选D。 Passage 10 People are always living with technology nowadays. 【答案】1.E 2.B 3.F 4.D 5.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了智能家居的工作方式以及好处。 1.根据上文“People are always living with technology nowadays. Here comes a smart home, which is controlled by the touch of a button.(现在人们的生活和科技密不可分。智能家居问世了,只要按一下按钮就可以控制)”以及后文“This acts like a remote control to activate household systems and monitor inside temperatures. If done successfully, a smart home system will be integrated so seamlessly that a household will appear to run itself.(它就像一个遥控器,可以激活家用系统并监控室内温度。如果成功的话,一个智能家居系统将被无缝集成,以至于一个家庭似乎可以自己运行)”可知,本段落向读者介绍智能房屋,后文提到了一个智能家居系统将被无缝集成,本句是在说明家庭自动化系统将房子连接起来的方式。由此可知,E. Through home automation, an entire house can be connected via a smart controller.(通过家庭自动化,整个房子可以通过智能控制器连接起来)符合语境。故选E项。 2.根据上文“Home automation is designed to introduce efficiency to a home.  (家庭自动化的目的是提高家庭的效率)”及下文“An efficient smart home uses sensors to prevent over watering of outdoor gardens and control room temperatures, all of which can reduce expenses. In addition to cost savings, home automation often provides a sense of security to homeowners. (高效的智能家居使用传感器来防止室外花园浇水过多和控制室内温度,所有这些都可以减少费用。除了节省成本外,家庭自动化还经常为房主提供安全感)”可知,本段落介绍智能家居节能,后文提到了节省成本,推测本句启示后文,是在说明家庭自动化可以省钱。由此可知,B. It achieves this by saving homeowners time and money.(它通过节省房主的时间和金钱来实现这一点)承上启下,符合语境,this指代上文introduce efficiency to a home, saving homeowners time and money呼应下文reduce expenses。故选B项。 3.根据上文“Families with children or elderly adults in the home may be reassured by some safeguards in smart home security, like fire alarms that alert the appropriate agencies in the event of a problem. Lighting activation runs on timers, which can be a life saver if an oven is left on when someone leaves the home. (家里有小孩或老人的家庭可以通过智能家居安全的一些保障措施来获得安心,比如火灾报警器,当出现问题时,它会向有关机构发出警报。当有人离开家时,如果烤箱还开着,那么照明激活就可以通过计时器来实现)”可知,上文讲了智能家居可以解决有老人小孩的家庭的安全问题。由此可知F. Besides protecting people, it also offers security for expensive items inside a residence.(除了保护人们,它还为住宅内的贵重物品提供安全保护)又补充了智能家居对财产的保护,还是安全问题,符合语境。故选F项。 4.根据上文“Home automation is not just for safety, however. (然而,家庭自动化不仅仅是为了安全)”及后文“With a centralized control unit, a person does not have to leave the couch to turn down the blinds or even order groceries, which can be automated.(有了一个集中控制单元,一个人不必离开沙发就可以拉下百叶窗,甚至可以自动订购杂货)”可知,本句承接上文,继续说明家庭自动化的其他好处,结合后文的例子可知,家庭自动化提供了方便。由此可知D. It can also provide convenience for people living in the home.(它也可以为生活在家里的人提供方便)符合语境,关键词convenience呼应下文。故选D项。 5.本空为段首句,根据下文“Such a home becomes dependent on technology for routine tasks. If something goes wrong with the central automation unit, it is not just one appliance at risk as malfunctions can disrupt systems that are vital to running a home. As a result, for all people, a home can become a place of technical faults that repeatedly require repair. (这样的家庭变得依赖于技术来完成日常任务。如果中央自动化单元出现问题,就不仅仅是一台设备有风险,因为故障可能会破坏对家庭正常运行至关重要的系统。因此,对所有人来说,家都可能成为一个不断出现技术故障、需要修理的地方)”可知,本段提到智能家居可能存在故障,让家成为一个不断出现技术故障、需要修理的地方,即存在缺点。由此可知C. There are some drawbacks with an automated home system.(自动化家庭系统有一些缺点)符合语境。故选C项。 Passage 11 When people first come across the Law of Attraction (吸引力法则), their hearts and minds often immediately think of one specific thing that they’d love to achieve in their lives. 【答案】1.C 2.F 3.A 4.E 5.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了几种可以让你保持追逐梦想的方法和建议。 1.根据上文“You may come up with all kinds of excuses. (你可能会想出各种各样的借口。)”提到不想付诸行动的各种借口,可知本空要谈到解决这一问题的方案。下文“Here are the reasons why you should believe you can use the Law of Attraction to obtain whatever you want. (下面是为什么你应该相信你可以利用吸引力法则得到你想要的任何东西的原因。)”提到建议和方法,可知本空是对下文的概括。选项C项“Luckily, the truth is that it’s never too late to follow your dream. (幸运的是,事实是,追逐梦想永远不会太晚。)”起到承上启下作用。故选C项。 2.上文“Usually it’s manageable to think of following your dream as taking a series of significant but small steps. (通常情况下,你可以把追求梦想看成是一系列重要而又小的步骤。)”说明可以把追求梦想看成重要而又小的步骤。F项“For example, challenge yourself to write down the path to success in ten stages. (例如,挑战自己,把通往成功的道路分为十个阶段。)”为具体举例解释这一方法,和上文内容意思一致,为上文内容的语意递进。故选F项。 3.该空为段首,总结该段内容。根据下文“When people are interviewed on their deathbeds or write about their lives in autobiographies (自传), it is often observed that major regrets tend to relate to things that were not done. In older age, it’s likely that you will be uncomfortable with the idea that you didn’t even try to do the thing that you loved or attempt to obtain what you truly wanted. (当人们在弥留之际接受采访,或在自传中讲述他们的生活时,我们常常发现,主要的遗憾往往与没有做过的事情有关。在年老的时候,你很可能会因为你甚至没有尝试做你喜欢的事情或试图获得你真正想要的东西而感到不舒服。)”可知,遗憾往往与没有做过的事情有关。A项“You can avoid regret. (你可以避免后悔。)”总结下文内容,引出下文中讲到的人们往往会因为什么而后悔。故选A项。 4.上文“In older age, it’s likely that you will be uncomfortable with the idea that you didn’t even try to do the thing that you loved or attempt to obtain what you truly wanted. (在年老的时候,你很可能会因为你甚至没有尝试做你喜欢的事情或试图获得你真正想要的东西而感到不舒服。)”提到没有尝试做你喜欢的事情或试图获得你真正想要的东西会使自己感到遗憾。下文“But you don’t ever need to feel this way! (但是你不需要有这种感觉!)”说明空处提到了某种感觉。E项“It is painful to feel like you haven’t ever found your true purpose. (感觉自己还没有找到自己真正的目标是很痛苦的。)”为对上文内容的语意递进,同时引起下文,下文中提到的“feel this way (这种感觉)”指的就是该句中的内容。故选E项。 5.上文“Another common worry is that if you follow your dreams, you’ll be “taking steps back”. (另一个常见的担忧是,如果你追随梦想,你会“倒退”。)”提到追随梦想,你会有“倒退”的这种担忧。下文“However, what looks like backward steps in your old life can more productively and accurately be seen as forwarding steps in the brand new life you’re creating. (然而,在你的旧生活中,那些看起来像是倒退的步骤,可以更有效、更准确地被视为你正在创造的全新生活中的前进步骤。)”为转折,说明这些担忧可能是创造的全新生活中的前进步骤。D项“It often comes up when people are at the top of careers they hate. (当人们处于自己讨厌的职业巅峰时,这种情况就会出现。)”起到承上启下作用,说明上文提到的情况。故选D项。 Passage 12 “If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need.” This is a piece of wise advice from Warren Buffet, arguably one of the greatest financial minds of the 21st century. 【答案】1.F 2.E 3.D 4.A 5.G 【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要介绍21世纪年轻人的节俭观念。 1.根据上文““If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need.” This is a piece of wise advice from Warren Buffet, arguably one of the greatest financial minds of the 12st century. (“如果你买了不需要的东西,很快你就必须卖掉你需要的东西。”这是沃伦·巴菲特的一条明智建议,他可以说是21世纪最伟大的金融大亨之一。)”和下文“This is true especially in the present economic climate. (这是真的,尤其是在目前的经济环境下。)”和“While the idea of being frugal(节俭的) has long been a part of Eastern culture, the relatively recent growth of wealth in China as well as the ease of purchasing has led to increased consumerism for many across the country. Yet this increased consumption of goods has been pushing up the prices of certain bare essentials such as housing, transportation and food, which is forcing people to reevaluate their priorities while spending money. (虽然节俭的观念长期以来一直是东方文化的一部分,但中国最近的财富增长以及购买的便利性导致了全国许多人的消费主义加剧。然而,这种商品消费的增加推高了某些基本必需品的价格,如住房、交通和食品,这迫使人们在花钱时重新评估自己的优先事项。)”可知,这里表明现在年轻人的做法和巴菲特的观点是一致的。选项F“如今,许多年轻人似乎非常重视这些话。”和上文意思一致。故选F。 2.根据上文“While the idea of being frugal(节俭的) has long been a part of Eastern culture, the relatively recent growth of wealth in China as well as the ease of purchasing has led to increased consumerism for many across the country. Yet this increased consumption of goods has been pushing up the prices of certain bare essentials such as housing, transportation and food, which is forcing people to reevaluate their priorities while spending money. (例如,衣服可以买二手的,但你永远不应该错过看牙医的机会。)”可知,花钱的时候要先考虑健康。选项D“优先考虑直接影响你健康的商品和服务是有意义的。”和上文意思一致。故选D。 4.根据上文“Hopefully, we all fully understand at this point that the resources on the earth are indeed limited. (希望在这一点上,我们都能充分理解地球上的资源确实是有限的。)”可知,这里提到地球上的资源确实是有限的。选项A“这个星球上的持续增长模式是不可持续的。”和上文意思一致。故选A。 5.根据上文“Have you ever chosen to starve yourself to get a pair of limited-edition sneakers? (你有没有选择饿着肚子去买一双限量版运动鞋?)”可知,这里表明让人们自己从自身看有没有做到为了地球的可持续发展而努力。选项G“如果是这样的话,那就是你开始为自己和全人类做出改变的时候了。”和上文意思一致。故选G。 Passage 13 Fitness Magazine recently ran an article titled “Five Reasons to Thank Your Workout Partner.” One reason was: “You’ll actually show up if you know someone is waiting for you at the gym, ” while another read: “ 1 ”  With a workout partner, you will increase your training effort as there is a subtle (微妙) competition. 【答案】1.C 2.D 3.B 4.G 5.F 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了如何找到一个一起锻炼的伙伴。 1.根据前文“Fitness Magazine recently ran an article titled “Five Reasons to Thank Your Workout Partner.” One reason was: “You’ll actually show up if you know someone is waiting for you at the gym,”(《健身杂志》最近刊登了一篇题为《感谢健身伙伴的五个理由》的文章。一个理由是:“如果你知道有人在健身房等你,你就会去锻炼。”)”以及后文“With a workout partner, you will increase your training effort as there is a subtle (微妙) competition. (有一个锻炼伙伴,你将会努力训练,因为你们之间有一个微妙的竞争)”可知,空处陈述另一个和别人一起锻炼的理由,故选项应与后文是顺承关系,选项C中的“train with someone else”与后文的“With a workout partner”相对应,选项C“You’ll work harder if you train with someone else.(如果你和别人一起训练,你会更努力)”符合语意。故选C项。 2.根据前文“First of all, decide what you want from that person. (首先,决定你想从那个人身上得到什么)”和后文“Or do you just want to be physically fit, able to move with strength and flexibility?(或者你只是想要身体健康,能够移动的力量和灵活性?)”可知,这里是一个问句,反问自己结伴锻炼的目的,故空处与后文是选择关系,你要知道你锻炼是为了什么。所以选项D“Do you want to be a better athlete in your favorite sport? (你想在你最喜欢的运动项目上成为更好的运动员吗?)”与后文在语意上构成选择关系。故选D项。 3.根据前文“You might think about posting what you are looking for on social media, but it probably won't result in a useful response. (你可能会考虑在社交媒体上发布你想要的东西,但可能不会得到有用的回应)”和后文“If you plan on working out in a gym, that person must belong to the same gym.(如果你打算在健身房锻炼,那个人一定是同一个健身房的)”可知,寻找的锻炼伙伴要具有便利性的特点。选项B中的“live close by”与后文的“belong to the same gym”相对应,选项B“A workout partner usually needs to live close by. (锻炼伙伴通常需要住在附近)”与下文是顺承关系。故选B项。 4.根据前文“My partner posted her request on the notice board of a local park. Her notice included what kind of training she wanted to do, how many days a week and how many hours she wanted to spend on each session, and her age. It also listed her favorite sports and activities, and provided her phone number. (我的搭档把她的要求贴在了当地公园的布告栏上。她的注意事项包括她想要做什么样的锻炼,每周多少天,每次培训要花多少小时,以及她的年龄。它还列出了她最喜欢的运动和活动,并提供了她的电话号码)”可知,本段作者以自己的锻炼伙伴为例,说明寻找锻炼伙伴布告所要包括的信息。所以选项G“Any notice for a training partner should include such information. (任何锻炼伙伴的布告都应包括这些信息)”是对上文内容的总结,符合语意。故选G项。 5.根据前文“You and your partner will probably have different skills. (你和你的伴侣可能有不同的技能)”和后文“Over time, both of you will benefit—your partner will be able to lift more weights and you will become more physically fit. The core (核心) of your relationship is that you will always be there to help each other. (久而久之,你们双方都会受益—你的伴侣会举起更多的重量,你也会变得更健康。你们关系的核心是你们永远在一起互相帮助)”可知,要学会求同存异,一起合作,共同提高。选项F中的“differences”对应前文的“different skills”,选项中的“work with each other”对应后文的“be there to help each other”,故选项F“Just accept your differences and learn to work with each other. (接受你们的不同,学会彼此合作)”起到承上启下的作用,符合语意。故选F项。 【点睛】 Passage 14 When people look at mountains, they often feel a desire to climb to the top. 5 . A.If you’ re a good vertical mountain climber B.Even though the paths might be easy to follow C.Since climbing a mountain this way can be dangerous D.Safety is most important in any form of mountain climbing E.They include a personal sense of achievement and a wonderful view F.The third level of mountain climbing involves using ropes with other climbers G.Other hooks are also needed to attach the climbers to the rope and to each other 【答案】1.E 2.B 3.C 4.F 5.G 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了和爬山相关的事,包括人们喜欢爬山的原因,爬不同级别的山的难度,以及需要注意的地方等等。 1.上文“People realize the great rewards that mountains will give them if they reach the top.(人们意识到爬上山顶会有巨大的回报)”以及下文“It’s little wonder, therefore, that climbing mountains is such a popular activity.(因此,对于爬山是很受欢迎的活动一点也不奇怪)”可知,空格处应该讲述巨大的回报是什么。选项E:They include a personal sense of achievement and a wonderful view(它们包括自我成就感和极好的风景)描述巨大回报是什么,并且句中“They”指代上文中的“the great rewards”。故选E。 2.下文“these hikes can be exhausting and even the fittest people will breathe heavier and have to take rests.(这些徒步攀登者会感到疲乏,即使身体很健康的人也会呼吸困难,不得不休息)”空格上的句子要与下文意思相反,构成一个转折。选项B:Even though the paths might be easy to follow(尽管这条路可能很容易走)引导让步状语从句,与下文构成转折关系。故选B。 3.上文“The path is very narrow or too steep in some places to walk up.(有些小路很窄很险,很难向上走)”以及下文“climbers must be physically fit and maintain good concentration.(爬山者必须身体健康并且高度集中注意力)”可知,空格处应承上启下,描述爬山的危险。选项C:Since climbing a mountain this way can be dangerous(因为这样爬山很危险),描述了爬山者身体健康并且需要集中注意力的原因。故选C。 4.下文“For example, in a group of three climbers, all should be attached to the same rope.(例如,在一个三人的登山小组中,所有的人都应该绑在同一根绳子上)”,空格处位于句首,总结下文。选项F:The third level of mountain climbing involves using ropes with other climbers(第三级爬山需要和其他登山者一起用绳索),句中“using ropes with other climbers”衔接下文“all should be attached to the same rope.”。故选F。 5.上文“At the end of the iron spikes, there are hooks that can be attached to ropes.(在铁定的末端,有可以连接绳索的钩子)”可知,空格处要进一步讲述注意事项。选项G:Other hooks are also needed to attach the climbers to the rope and to each other(还需要用其他的钩子把攀登者固定在绳子上,并且把他们彼此也固定在一起),句中“Other hooks are also needed”衔接上文“there are hooks”。故选G。 Passage 15 Why Do We Get Angry? Having these personality traits implies the pre-anger state, where anger is in the background of your mind.
