China Targets Overpriced Mooncakes
China will strengthen the control of overpriced mooncakes to create a healthy environment of the industry. Market regulation departments will carry out inspections (检查) of hotels, restaurants and platforms that produce or sell mooncakes, and will strictly punish illegal (违法的) behavior. The government posts a notice, saying that mooncakes should not be wrapped in expensive materials, and should not be sold in boxes prepared with other goods. Expensive ingredients (原料), such as shark fins and edible bird’s nests should not be used to make mooncakes.
Chinese instant (速食的) food is more and more popular. In 2022, Chinese people bought 18 million self-heating hotpots. A report last year showed that the favorite food of local Beijingers was Yangzhou fried rice, while Shanxi noodles were the most preferred choice among the people in the southern island province of Hainan. “The Chinese youth love fresh and better-flavored products, and the convenience of eating is also an important factor that drives them to instant food.” says Simon Zhang, global CEO and China chairman of Ries Positioning Strategy & Consulting.
Online Fresh Food Sweeps Farmers Markets
Though leaving work after local farmers’ markets closed around 7 p.m., Chen Fang still managed to make five tasty dishes for her child’s birthday. For Chen, buying fresh food online has become her new routine (常规做法): “Why bother going to markets? With a simple click on my phone, I can order lobsters from Boston before heading home. And things online can be sent out quickly.” said Chen, Consumers like Chen are not alone as online stores can send food at the touch of a button.

Honestly, I had never enjoyed reading science fiction until a friend of mine pressed a copy of The Three-Body Problem into my hands.
“You’ve just got to read this novel!”
“But I have no interest in superheroes fighting aliens to save the world. I prefer real people dealing with real-life situations.”
“Exactly. That’s why I want you to read it.”
He was right. I fell in love with the book from the very beginning and finished it in only a couple of days. One reason why it was such a page-turner was Liu Cixin’s brilliant story-telling style. I especially liked his way of dealing with time. Most books are chronological, but The Three-Body Problem jumps back and forth. It starts back in history nearly 60 years ago. Then it jumps forward 40 years, when the characters have become elderly men and women before jumping back again.
And the lives of Ye Wenjie and Wang Miao certainly kept me turning the pages. However, I also fell in love with this book because it was thought-provoking (引起思索的). Yes, there are aliens in it, but the theme of this story is life on Earth and how we humans are destroying (摧毁) the planet. Real-world science, history and philosophy are combined into this fascinating story. As a great sci-fi work, it sparks interest in science, and it makes readers think.
The Three-Body Problem has enjoyed great popularity worldwide. It’s no surprise, then, that it has been adapted into a TV series. At first, I didn’t like this idea. Books often lose a lot of their value when they are made into TV series. Books are slow. You need patience to understand what is going on. TV moves much faster. It is packed with action and cool characters. Young people are often more interested in what they see on their screens than in the stories and their messages.
However, some of you may be too young to fully understand books like The Three-Body Problem. A good TV series can help you to become a better reader and can inspire you to read more widely. But once you do fall in love with reading, you will realize that it is a good book, not a TV series, that will be your friend for life.
31. The underlined word “page-turner” in paragraph 5 most probably means “________”.
A. a boring and difficult book
B. an interesting or exciting book
C. a machine that turns the pages of a book
D. a book that helps people to understand another book
32. Why does the author mention the way The Three-Body Problem deals with time?
A. To criticize the author’s writing style.
B. To explain why the book was confusing.
C. To show how it differs from other sci-fi books.
D. To highlight what made the book attractive.
33. Which of the following reasons might show the writer’s love for the book?
①Liu Cixin’s brilliant story-telling style. ②the lives of Ye Wenjie and Wang Miao.
③its thought-provoking theme. ④TV series adapted from the book.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①②④ D. ①③④
34. According to the article, The Three-Body Problem is thought-provoking because ________.
A. it describes a war between humans and aliens
B. it raises awareness (意识) about environmental destruction
C. it teaches readers how to study science and philosophy
D. it presents an ideal world where humans and aliens live together
35. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. The Three-Body Problem B. Reading a Lot
C. On Bringing Stories to Life D. From Aliens to Humans
C
There’s no better way to start the holidays than with a holiday movie. The storylines of these movies are often silly. The characters are over-the-top (浮夸的). The plot moves too fast to be realistic. Even so, they make you feel happy. And as it turns out, there’s a scientific reason behind the joy you get from watching them.
Holiday movies are usually predictable and not stressful. Therefore, they can lead to feelings of comfort and naturally boost your mood. According to a 2020 study, because these movies are easy to follow and have happy endings, they can even reduce stress hormones (激素) and increase your cardiovascular (心血管的) health.
____36____. When we watch them with others, we create shared memories and strengthen relationships. The laughter and joking about an unrealistic movie create a positive bonding (建立亲密联系的) experience.
“When it comes to those holiday movies, we know they are always going to work out in the most positive way,” says Courtney Cope, a psychologist. “It’s a nice vacation from reality for our brains.” In fact, when we are watching these movies, we can imagine a perfect world. There, the good guy always wins, and the main character always finds love. There’s always enough money for the dream gift or trip for the whole family!
More scientifically, holiday movies make us long for past times. They are designed to work exactly that way. They make us think about times in our lives that were simple, hopeful, fun and happy. While watching them, we feel safe and calm. That’s something that can be hard to find right now, so when we do our brains eat it up.
Feel-good movies do more than just make us happy for a moment. They also provide a longer-lasting form of happiness that increases well-being. They can be uplifting and may inspire us to see things in a new way, or feel inspired to make new plans.
36. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To introduce different types of holiday movies.
B. To criticize the unrealistic nature of holiday movies.
C. To compare holiday movies with other movie types.
D. To explain why holiday movies make people feel good.
37. The underlined word “boost” (in paragraph 2) is closest in meaning to “________”.
A. break B. control C. improve D. protect
38. Which of the following can be put in ________?
A. However, some holiday movies are joking a lot
B. Besides, most holiday movies are family-friendly
C. After all, some holiday movies cost a lot of money
D. In short, most holiday movies create laughter
39. According to the article, watching holiday movies with family can help people
A. understand the importance of traditions.
B. develop their ability to analyze storylines.
C. create shared memories and strengthen relationships.
D. tell the difference between realistic and unrealistic plots.
40. Why do holiday movies make us feel safe and calm according to the passage?
A. They always contain realistic and relatable stories.
B. They show that success only comes through struggle.
C. They focus on social issues and real-world problems.
D. They remind us of simpler and happier times in the past.

例文
Now I am a Grade‑nine student. I have changed a lot during these two years. I used to be shy and afraid of speaking in public. I spent little time on my lessons before.
Now I have become more outgoing. I take an active part in different kinds of school activities. Also, I pay more attention to my study and make great progress.
I feel happy about these changes. Next year, I will keep working hard and try my best to get better grades.
