practice their languages-you know, over a drink or something. We have different
languages on different evenings.Monday-Spanish;Tuesday-Italian;Wednesday-
German;and Friday-French.On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for
anyone who wants to come.
W:Well, that sounds great.I really need to practice my French.

Dear Kacey,
I'm glad to hear that our grade is going to set up a "Go for It!"Wall. Here are my
suggestions for managing it.
First,I suggest updating the wall every two weeks with a new theme, such as Goal
Setting,Overcoming Challenges,or Words of Gratitude. This can keep the wall fresh and
attract more students to participate regularly.Second,we could set up a small suggestion box
beside the wall, where students can secretly recommend what they want to see next. This
encourages shy students to share their ideas without feeling pressured.
I believe these ideas will make the wall more engaging.I'd be happy to help with the
setup if needed.
Yours,
Li Hua

参考范文:
That night,I gathered all my courage and walked to Valodya's desk.On the desk lay
piles of transparent glue and broken glass fragments, with a rough small glass model half-
finished beside them.He had been trying to repair the flask day after day.My throat
tightened instantly.I stood beside him, lowered my head and poured out all my sincere
apologies, admitting how rude and selfish I had been.I promised to help him complete the
glass model together.Valodya stared at the broken pieces silently, and slowly, the coldness
in his eyes faded away.
Valodya reached out and patted my shoulder. He told me that he had also been trapped
by anger these days and missed our happy time together. We stayed up late chatting about our
childhood stories, and gradually, our misunderstandings began to fade. Before he left for the
volunteer program,we placed the handmade glass model in the center of our desk.I
appreciated the quarrel, which taught me a lifelong lesson:Family love needs tolerance and
bravery to admit mistakes, and pride should never outweigh the people we care about.

According to an official report, with more than 40%of US teenagers reporting ongoing
feelings of sadness or hopelessness,Dr Kenneth Barish,a child psychologist, believes
grandparents may be an important part of the solution. He says the decline of extended family
involvement has been identified as a contributing factor to a continuing crisis in child and
adolescent(青少年)mental health.
"We did not evolve to raise children with as little extended family and community support
as most American parents have now,"says Dr Barish."Children need grandparents, and they
always have.
In his new book,Dr Barish draws on 40 years of clinical experience,as well as findings
from neuroscience, child development studies, and educational programs,to argue that
grandparents can play a meaningful role in helping families navigate today's parenting
challenges.
Dr Barish says grandparents offer more than just practical support for parents. They also
provide what he describes as "molecules of emotional health",small but meaningful moments
of encouragement, attention, and understanding that help strengthen children's "emotional
immune systems'”.
"A child's confident expectation that someone will listen and understand is the best
protection against the emotional pathogens (they will experience throughout their
childhood.More than anything else, children need someone in their life who listens, who
helps them feel less alone, and who teaches them that problems can be solved, relationships
can be repaired, and bad feelings do not last forever,"Dr Barish explains.
Ultimately,Dr Barish argues,.“Helping children thrive(茁壮成长)depends less on
teaching specific skills and more on fostering emotional strength, confidence, and meaningful
relationships. Our children will then work harder, bounce back more quickly, show more
caring and kindness toward others, and pursue interests with greater enthusiasm,
commitment,and a sense of purpose."
28.What does Dr Barish think contribute to the ongoing crisis in child mental health?
A.Growing bonds between generations.
B.Reduced family and neighbor assistance.
[山城学术圈]第5页·预祝考试顺利
C.Insufficient community support for parents.
D.Less participation from relatives in raising kids.
29.What lays the foundation of Dr Barish's new book?
A.His four-decade practice and findings from related fields.
B.His clinical records and data from brain science research.
C.His family upbringing and observations of child behavior.
D.His professional background and modern educational theories.
30.Which can be the molecules of emotional health?
A.Strict rules for behavior.
B.Expensive gifts for children.
C.Small acts of emotional care.
D.Physical medicines for health.
31.What is crucial for children to thrive according to the last paragraph?
A.Mastering specific skills.
B.Pursuing personal interests
C.Showing caring toward others.
D.Developing emotional intelligence.

Experts are calling for a global effort to identify "positive tipping points"to accelerate the
green transition and have devised a method to find them in a new academic paper.A tipping
point is a threshold (where a small change can cause a significant, often irreversible
(不可逆转的),transformation.Positive tipping points in human societies and economies can
bring about rapid reductions in emissions and other environmental harm, even as climate
breakdown becomes increasingly damaging and dangerous.
Some positive tipping points are already happening-with solar power and electric
vchicles rapidly replacing fossil-fuelled alternatives-but many more are needed to ensure a
sustainable future.
“The global economy is decarbonising(脱去…的碳)at least five times too slowly to
meet the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming to well below 2 C,said
Professor Tim Lenton, from the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter."The
challenge now is to identify potential positive tipping points, and the actions that can bring
them forward-while avoiding wishful thinking about their existence,or oversimplification of
their nature,drivers and impacts."
The paper sets out a method for identifying positive tipping points, assessing their
proximity, identifying the factors that can influence them, and the actions that can lead to
them.This includes looking for evidence that a system,or a similar system,has "tipped"in
the past.
Another factor is whether there is potential for "self-pushing uptake"of zero-or low-
carbon behaviors. For example,as more people buy electric cars, the performance, price and
infrastructure improve-making it easier for others to follow, and therefore accelerating the
transition.
"We know positive tipping can happen in sectors such as power and road transport,"said
Dr Steve Smith, also from the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter."In other
sectors, there is little sign of approaching tipping points and in a few, such as nuclear power

When I was a teenager,I often quarreled with my elder brother Valodya. We shared a
small bedroom, and we fought constantly over tiny things-storybooks,desk space, and even
our mother's attention. One quiet afternoon,I ran around the room carelessly and accidentally
knocked over his treasured glass flask(),a valuable gift left by our late grandfather.
Valodya's face turned pale, and then red with anger. He shouted that I never cared about
his precious belongings, while I argued that it was just an accident and that he was
overreacting.Filled with stubborn pride,I said several sharp words to hurt his feelings and
stormed out of the bedroom without a single word of apology. For weeks afterward,we
ignored each other completely. We ate our meals separately and walked to school alone, with
no communication between us.(ur mother noticed the cold silence hanging over our home
and sighed every day, eager to see us make it up.
I stuck firmly to my pride, convincing myself that Valodya should be the first to break
the ice and talk to me.However,as time went by,heavy guilt began to trouble me day and
night.I kept recalling warm old memories:Valodya always protected me at school;he saved
all his pocket money to buy my favorite candies;he stayed up late helping me finish difficult
homework. That glass flask was far more than an ordinary bottle to him-it carried all his
treasured memories of Grandpa.I finally realized that I had ignored his feelings, trapped in
my meaningless pride.
Two weeks passed. We still barely exchanged a word at home.()ne night,Mother told
me that Valodya would leave for a two-month summer volunteer program in remote mountain
villages the following week.A strong wave of anxiety swept over me.I feared I would losc
the last chance to say sorry before he left.
