Step 2 Task 1a Presentation
Read the textbook instruction together: The photos show changes in Li Rui’s hometown over the years. What are they? How do they make you feel?
Co-sort out the changes on the whiteboard with students:
Past: dry bare hills, little vegetation
Present: thick green trees, lively ecological environment
Lead out the core grammar implicitly: We can use “The hills used to be bare.” to describe things that were true before but not now. Simply explain the usage of used to.
Smooth Transition Sentence: Li Rui’s friend George will make a phone call to visit this hometown. Let’s listen to their short phone conversation in Task 1b.

Part 1: Short Listening 1b
