Adding Chinese Elegance to the Corridor
To offer our British exchange students an authentic taste of Chinese culture, I propose integrating Chinese seal script and shadow puppetry into the corridor design.
For the display, we can line the walls with enlarged rubbings of oracle bone inscriptions and ancient seals, paired with bilingual annotations that trace the evolution of Chinese characters. On the opposite wall, we can set up a life-sized shadow puppet stage showing rotating scenes of classic Chinese folk tales. Additionally, a small interactive corner can be reserved for visitors to manipulate simple puppet models on their own. QR codes attached to each exhibit link to short audio clips that introduce relevant cultural backgrounds.
This creative design blends strong visual appeal with immersive hands-on engagement, turning an ordinary corridor into a living cultural gallery that effectively bridges language gaps and promotes cross-cultural communication.
第二节 (满分25分)
The next morning, an idea struck me: prepare a gift for the Lis. I recalled how my family hides small notes in stockings at Christmas, so I wrote cards for each family member, expressing my gratitude for their kindness. I also bought a box of chocolate from the store, wrapping it in red paper to match the festive spirit. When I handed them the gifts, Mrs. Li’s eyes lit up with surprise. She hugged me tightly, saying the cards meant more than any material gift.
Their joy moved me to share the warmth with other students like me. I gathered several exchange students on campus and told them my story. We immediately decided to make red envelopes together, writing our own blessings inside for each other. Some of us even called our host families to say thank you. That night, I realized that true cultural exchange is not about judging differences, but about opening our hearts to understand and share. The red envelope had taught me a lesson I would never forget.

Do you love seeing beautiful lanterns outside? The best time to do this is during the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month. This year it is on Feb. 22, marking the end of Spring Festival celebrations.
Lanterns are a big part of the festival. One story says that the bright lanterns show respect for gods. Another says that people light lanterns to celebrate the declining darkness of winter. Watching lanterns is a great event. You see lanterns in any sizes and shapes you can imagine, from animals to plants and flowers. To make this activity more fun, people paste (粘贴) riddles (谜语) on the lanterns. “Ten plus ten, still is ten, ten minus ten, again is ten.” Guess what? It is a pair of gloves.
In some places, people like releasing sky lanterns, which are called Kongming lanterns. A sky lantern is a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom, where there is a small fire source. When the bright lights fly high in the sky, people bless family members and make wishes. Releasing river lights is also a way to bless for each other. Usually, the lights are in the shape of a lotus.
In old times, the Lantern Festival was also romantic. At that time, young girls were not allowed to go out very often except during certain festivals. Therefore, looking at lanterns gave young people a chance to meet each other. A line from Xin Qiji, a poet during the Song Dynasty, shows this: “Anxiously, I searched for her in thousands, hundreds of ways. Suddenly I turned, and there she was in the declining light.”
24.Why do people light lanterns during the Lantern Festival?
A.To paste riddles on lanterns for fun.
B.To release sky lanterns and make wishes.
C.To give young people a chance to meet each other.
D.To show respect for gods and celebrate the end of winter’s darkness.
25.Which of the following statements about the Lantern Festival is TRUE?
A.People make wishes when releasing lights.
B.People light lanterns to drive animals away.
C.People paste riddles to show off their knowledge.
D.Young girls were not allowed to go out on the day.
26.What does the underlined word in the last paragraph most likely mean?
A.growing. B.fading. C.brightening. D.steady.
27.What would be the best title for the text?
A.A day to Guess Lantern Riddles. B.The Origin of the Lantern Festival.
C.Celebrations of the Lantern Festival. D.River Lights on the Lantern Festival.

The City of Chicago has been selected as the official host city for UNESCO’s International Jazz Day 2026, the world’s largest celebration of jazz and its power to unite communities across the globe. The announcement, made by UNESCO and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, sets the stage for a historic celebration on April 30, 2026, stressing Chicago’s contributions to jazz, blues, and global music culture.
Since its launch in 2012, International Jazz Day has traveled across the globe — from Paris to Havana, Sydney to St. Petersburg — bringing people together through music. Chicago’s selection happens at the same time as the 100th birthday of jazz legend Miles Davis, a figure deeply connected to the city’s musical heritage.
“Chicago is the birthplace of modern jazz innovation,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “From the clubs of Bronzeville to the airwaves carrying our sound across the nation, jazz has always been the reflection of our resilience (适应力). Hosting International Jazz Day 2026 honors the soul of our city.”
The event is led by the Chicago Jazz Alliance, in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. It is supported by many cultural and educational organizations, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association and the Jazz Institute of Chicago. These partners work to ensure the celebration remains rooted in authenticity (真实性) and community.
The celebration will end with an All-Star Global Concert, led by Chicago native and jazz icon Herbie Hancock, and broadcast in 190 countries. In the days leading up to the concert, a week of educational programs, community outreach, and youth involvement will take place citywide, bringing the healing (治愈) and unifying force of jazz directly into neighborhoods and schools. Students will be invited to participate in the festival through performances, master classes and workshops.
International Jazz Day 2026 will restate Chicago’s essential role in the global evolution of jazz and its position as a forward-thinking cultural center.
28.What makes Chicago the host for International Jazz Day 2026?
A.Its large number of musical clubs. B.Its success in hosting global concerts.
C.Its close connection with jazz musicians. D.Its great contributions to jazz development.
29.What does Mayor Johnson think of jazz in Chicago?
A.It reflects the city’s spirit. B.It won popularity through local clubs.

30.What is the purpose of the citywide programs?
A.To offer professional training to artists. B.To expand jazz’s impact.
C.To discover talented young musicians. D.To promote the city’s economy.

By 2026, a playful yet purposeful trend called “Becoming Chinese” has swept across TikTok and other short-video apps. Unlike earlier fashions that fixed on foreign symbols, it encourages people worldwide to adopt daily routines rooted in traditional Chinese wisdom — wearing house slippers, sipping hot water, and performing Ba Duan Jin. Sparked by creators such as Chinese-American TikToker Sherry Xiiruii, whose call to accept a “highly Chinese era” drew over a million views, the movement reframes Chinese culture as a hands-on lifestyle rather than a distant sight.
Online tip lists simplify classical insights from Traditional Chinese Medicine, urging followers to preserve their “Jing” through rest, avoid cold floors, and carry thermos (保温杯). These practical habits speak directly to netizens suffering from burnout; they promise order and inner steadiness rather than quick fixes. The trend mirrors a broader shift: Western audiences are moving from observing China to identifying with it, seeking tangible benefits from age-old concepts like harmony between heaven and humanity and balance between yin and yang.
Digital platforms speed up this shift by broadcasting ordinary Chinese life, erasing Hollywood’s stylized images. Young viewers now associate “Made in China” with a life aesthetic (美学), not just products. Inspired by visa-free policies and popular travel videos, more foreigners visit China to film the Great Wall, Shanghai’s Bund, pandas, or even a cup of Mixue Bingcheng bubble tea. Their videos circulate quickly, expanding China’s soft power from broad “going out” campaigns to deeper cultural combination.
Ultimately, “Becoming Chinese” shows that today’s cultural attraction lies in micro-level practices. As global audiences recognize the wisdom rooted in everyday Chinese routines, “Chineseness” becomes an inclusive experiential phenomenon, offering a comforting framework for those exploring a complex world.
32.What is the main practice of the “Becoming Chinese” trend?
A.Learning Chinese. B.Buying Chinese goods.
C.Following Chinese daily habits. D.Visiting China for tourism.
33.What do the habits in the trend mainly offer people?
A.Ways to make money. B.A sense of order and calm.
C.A method to lose weight fast. D.Skills to make viral videos.
34.What is a key effect of short-video platforms according to the text?
A.They show the real daily life of Chinese people.
B.They create new jobs in China.
C.They are mainly used for government advertisements.
D.They only broadcast traditional Chinese performances.
35.How do young people now see “Made in China”?
A.As a sign of low quality. B.As only about electronics.
C.As out-of-date fashion. D.As a type of life style.

Duanwu is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals. The date of the festival is said to be the date when Qu Yuan died — the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It doesn’t follow the solar calendar we usually use. 36
According to traditional Chinese folk customs, the fifth lunar month is also called the “poisonous” month when many evil spirits and poisonous creatures appear. 37 Some people believe insects and pests are active during this summer month, which can bring infectious diseases to both humans and animals. This becomes the reason why people put calamus (菖蒲) on doors or windows to drive harmful insects from a house.
38 Fresh wormwood (艾草) is picked and put in the house, while the dried herb is often put into sachets (香囊) and worn during the festival. The herb, due to its medical functions, is not only a perfect choice for Duanwu, but also a daily necessity to many Chinese people.
39 People can use them during the Duanwu Festival, or the whole year to stay healthy. Wormwood can effectively drive mosquitoes and insects away in your house. Incense (香) is often made from wormwood that has been dried for at least three years. 40 Apart from this, there are some others deserving our favor. Soap made from wormwood is a reasonable choice, which can leave a natural scent on your body. Wormwood toothpaste and shampoo are good for your teeth and hair too, as the herb-based products can protect you in a safer and more natural way.
A.People hold different opinions.
B.This idea comes from ancient beliefs.
C.Therefore, the date is different from year to year.
D.There are some healthy products made from wormwood.
E.Calamus is always used by some people to drive insects away.
F.The longer the wormwood is dried, the stronger effect it will have.
G.Another widely-used herb to stay healthy with on Duanwu is wormwood.

The Lion Dance is a traditional art form in China. You can see it at many festivals, especially Chinese New Year. People believe it brings good luck and scares away bad spirits. It also makes celebrations lively and brings 56 (happy) to everyone.
Two artists wear a lion costume to perform the dance. One plays the head and front legs. 57 other plays the back and hind (后边的) legs. The pair work together to do many difficult movements during the performance.
The lion dance was being performed as 58 (early) as the Han Dynasty. No one knows 59 (exact) how it started. One story says that after a battle (斗争), an emperor dreamed 60 a strange animal. It looked scary but unlike a tiger. The emperor was eager to know 61 it was. The next day, his advisors told 62 (he) that this animal was a lion. The emperor thought that it was a lucky gift. Then he asked his people 63 (make) this animal out of paper, cloth and bamboo. These creations were first used in ceremonies to inspire communities. Till now, the tradition 64 (become) a celebrated art form.
The lion dance has two styles: the Northern and the Southern. The northern lion, which focuses more on the leg movements, looks more real. 第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料:根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Like many exchange students at my school, I arrived with stereotypes (刻板印象) about Chinese traditions. I firmly believed that red envelopes, known as hongbao, were merely a shallow custom of giving money to children. Living with my host family, the Lis, I kept a clear distance, thinking our cultural gaps were too wide to bridge.
One week before the Lunar New Year, Mrs. Li invited me to join their family shopping. I tagged along out of politeness, barely paying attention as she picked red paper and candies from the shelf. On New Year’s Eve, the family gathered for a feast of dumplings and sweet rice cakes. After dinner, every child received a red envelope. Watching them unwrap their packets, I remembered those stockings by our fireplace back home. We filled them with treats and little gifts, each carrying a wish for happiness. But here, how could money be put directly into a paper bag as a gift? When Mrs. Li walked toward me with an identical red packet, I felt confused and awkward.
I waved my hands and refused, explaining that I was not a child and should not accept money. Accepting cash would be impolite, even greedy. Mrs. Li smiled softly and placed the envelope into my palm despite my refusal. She explained that the red stood for good luck and safety, and the money carried their wish for me to have a smooth, happy life. It was their way of welcoming me as family, not a simple cash gift.
I stared at the red envelope, the golden “Fu” shining under the warm lamp. Inside were several new banknotes and a handwritten note: “May every distant traveler feel warm in our home.” That night, I sat alone on the balcony, rethinking my shallow judgments. The note echoed in my mind. I wanted to say something back, but words failed me — a simple “thank you” was never enough.

【答案】24.D 25.A 26.B 27.C

27.主旨大意题。根据第二段“Lanterns are a big part of the festival.
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.A 35.D

However, the southern lion looks more like a dragon, 65 (shake) its head in exciting ways to drums and gongs (锣鼓). Both show the power and wisdom (智慧) of Chinese culture.

【答案】参考范文
