Chen Dong, a 47-year-old Chinese astronaut, got the First-Class Space Merit Medal in Beijing on March 15, 2026. It is the highest honor in China’s space industry. He won the award because of his great work in three space missions (任务) and his contributions to China’s space station.
Chen Dong was born in Henan. He joined the army in 1997 and became an astronaut in 2010. He took his first space trip on Shenzhou-11 in 2016. “We must take every task seriously in space,” he said. Since the astronauts stay in space for a longer and longer time, carrying all food to space becomes more and more difficult. So, “space planting” becomes very important. They found that after six days of growth, the plants had longer stems (茎) and roots than those grown without the bacteria. The plants also had heavier and wider leaves after 24 days of growth. Wang Yuning liked to watch space programmes on TV when he was little. He became interested in space and even made small rocket models with paper tubes (纸筒). Recently, a great scientific discovery surprised the world. Chinese scientists found a new method to produce water on the Moon. It could change how we think about living on the Moon in the future!

Chen Dong, a 47-year-old Chinese astronaut, got the First-Class Space Merit Medal in Beijing on March 15, 2026. It is the highest honor in China’s space industry. He won the award because of his great work in three space missions (任务) and his contributions to China’s space station.
Chen Dong was born in Henan. He joined the army in 1997 and became an astronaut in 2010. He took his first space trip on Shenzhou-11 in 2016. “We must take every task seriously in space,” he said. Since the astronauts stay in space for a longer and longer time, carrying all food to space becomes more and more difficult. So, “space planting” becomes very important. Can you believe it? A group of high school students has successfully built and launched a real rocket—not just a toy, but one that flew over 10,000 metres into the sky! Let’s meet Wang Yuning, the young leader who made this dream come true.
Wang Yuning liked to watch space programmes on TV when he was little. He became interested in space and even made small rocket models with paper tubes (纸筒).
