Catarina Rosa Morais Chato had heart surgery when she was just 6 months old to repair a hole in her heart. The operation was effective in closing the hole, but four years later, she developed pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a type of high blood pressure in the heart and lungs that can be linked with congenital (先天的) heart disease — and for which there is no cure.
Her symptoms included coughing, exhaustion, chest pain and feeling faint, especially when climbing stairs. She was told to stop all forms of exercise, since physical activity would be too draining on her body. “My dream of dancing died that day,” she says, adding that she felt lonely when she couldn’t join her friends on the sports field.
Following her diagnosis (诊断), she quickly began treatment to help manage her symptoms, which enabled her to live a fairly normal life. That includes working as a personal care assistant, helping nurses in the same hospital where she was born. At first, she found the long hours on her feet very tiring. But thanks to a flexible schedule, as well as learning to go at her own pace, “I exceed (超出) my expectations,” she says.
She’s also found love: “My fiance, Tiago, has always supported me. He comes with me to cardiology visits, reminds me to take my medication and does things like carry the shopping bag for me.”
Reflecting on the challenges she has overcome, Chato feels pride. “Despite all the sad times I have been through, I am alive. I work, drive, travel, and do housekeeping, I get to watch my nephews grow up,” she says. “25 years ago there was not as much hope for people with PAH. My advice to anyone is: Be happy, enjoy every minute of your life and don’t give up.”
24. What caused Chato to develop PAH?
A. The failed operation. B. Her lack of exercise.
C. Her heart condition. D. The lung infection.
25. Why did Chato give up her dream?
A. She was unwilling to see others. B. Her interest in dancing was reduced.
C. She had to receive treatment. D. Her physical state worsened.
26. How did Chato manage her work?
A. By getting extra breaks. B. By changing work pace.
C. By asking others for help. D. By showing more patience.
27. Which words can best describe Chato?
A. Courageous and tough. B. Energetic and talkative.
C. Considerate and gifted. D. Humorous and modest.

Up to one quarter of the world’s population use chopsticks as their main eating tool. Called kuaizi in Chinese, chopsticks were developed in China about 5,000 years ago. Often made of wood, chopsticks allow users to pick up pieces of food by holding together and releasing (松开) the sticks with the thumb (拇指) and first three fingers.
Before the invention of chopsticks, the Chinese used only their hands to eat. One reason why chopsticks were invented is that eating with one’s hands allowed some people to take more food than others. This was considered rude, so using chopsticks, which limited the amount of food that could be taken at one time, was thought to be a more polite practice. Another one was about the great Chinese philosopher Confucius, who was a vegetarian. He objected to the use of knives at the table, feeling that they reminded eaters of the slaughterhouse (屠宰场), so he preferred chopsticks.
At first, chopsticks were used only by nobles (贵族). Later on, during the Western Han Dynasty, which began in 202 BC, commoners (平民) began to use chopsticks as well. At that time, people used chopsticks only to eat side dishes; spoons were used for rice and for soups. During the Northern Song Dynasty, which lasted from AD 960 to 1127, noodles became a popular dish. It is very difficult to eat noodles with a spoon, so chopsticks were used more often. Today, chopsticks are the main eating tool in China, Japan, and Vietnam; and people from countries all over the world commonly use this tool while eating Asian dishes.
28. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. The popularity of chopsticks.
B. The process of making chopsticks.
C. The method of using chopsticks.
D. The reasons for inventing chopsticks.
29. What does the underlined phrase “objected to” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Led to. B. Went against.
C. Believed in. D. Agreed with.
30. Who first began to use chopsticks?
A. Philosophers. B. Common people.
C. Nobles. D. Vegetarians.
31. When did eating with chopsticks become common?
A. After noodles became popular. B. Just before forks came into use.
C. During the Western Han Dynasty. D. Before the Northern Song Dynasty.

Each year, people are becoming more and more worried about the future of our planet. People are now starting to agree — global warming will certainly make a difference to the world’s weather. While some parts of the world may have more floods, some other parts might have long periods of dry weather. All of this will have a serious influence on the world’s agriculture (农业). And that could make it difficult for us to get enough food to survive.
This explains the idea behind the Svalbard Global Seed Vault (种子库). The Seed Vault is built into a mountain on an island near the North Pole (北极). The purpose is to protect the world’s agriculture from future disasters. This may not just be a question of global warming. Perhaps there will be a major nuclear disaster or war one day. These things won’t be a problem for Svalbard.
Some experts think that the population of the earth will probably go up by 50% in the next 40 years. Because of climate change, it probably won’t be easy for some plants to survive. Having many different types of plants will be necessary for agriculture to adapt to changes in the environment. In the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, there is space for 4.5 million types of seed. At the moment there are over 770,000 different types there.
Any country in the world can leave seeds in Svalbard without paying. The seeds of some plants, such as peas, only survive for 20 to 30 years. But others will last for hundreds of years.
In 2028, the Svalbard Vault will celebrate its 20th birthday. 200 years in the future, it’s possible that the ice caps will disappear. Even if this happens, Svalbard will be safe. That’s because it is on a mountain and will be above the sea level. And because it is so close to the North Pole, even if their electricity stops working, the ice will keep a cool temperature of -3.5℃ to keep the seeds in good condition. But the best protection is the fact that it is in such a faraway place. After all, maybe one day this will be the most important building in the whole world.
32. What does the first paragraph mainly introduce?
A. The role of agriculture. B. The reason for global warming.
C. The future problems we’ll face. D. The planet where we’ll live in the future.
33. What is the Seed Vault mainly used for?
A. Storing plant seeds. B. Growing more plants.
C. Discovering new plants. D. Providing humans with food.
34. What do we know about the Seed Vault?
A. It needs more space. B. It provides service for free.
C. It is built above a mountain. D. It will close in 200 years.
35. If there is an electrical problem at the Seed Vault, what will happen to the seeds?
A. They will be sent away. B. They will still be safe.
C. They will be of no use. D. They will be planted at once.

“Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. I’ve been saving up for the past month and I’m going to buy my mother a lipstick she loves,” Cherry, my friend, said on the way home from school. “See you tomorrow!”
We waved goodbye as she went into a gift shop. But her excitement reminded me that I hadn’t prepared anything special for my mother yet. I continued walking along the road, carefully thinking about what gift I should choose. I had planned to buy her some flowers and chocolates. Now, compared with my friend’s lipstick, they seemed to be too simple.
“Maybe I should go to the gift shop, too.” I told myself.
I pushed open the door to a nearby shop and tried to find a perfect gift. I picked up a lipstick but immediately put it back after seeing its price. I could never afford that! Then I walked into another shop and saw a very lovely cup.
“It’d be a wonderful gift and Mum would love it!” I thought.
I picked it up and turned it over to see the price, hoping it was not too expensive. Once again, I couldn’t afford it. Feeling sad, I continued to wander around the shops until darkness fell outside. Eventually, I gave up and went home. When I opened the door, I was greeted by the good smell from the kitchen.
“Mum, I am home!” I pretended to be cheerful.
Mom turned around and kissed me lightly on the cheeks, saying, “Dinner is almost ready. Today, I happened to be able to come home a little bit earlier. I have made some of the snacks you loved when you were a kid. I really missed the happy time we spent together!”
注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

W: I speak Spanish, Italian and French fluently.
M: Wow, how did you learn to speak them?
W: Well, my mother is Spanish, so I grew up listening to her speak it. As for French, I grew up in Quebec, a French-speaking Canadian province, so I always had French from when I was born. Later I learned Italian at a university.
M: That’s interesting. As far as I know, you stayed in Korea two months ago. I wonder if you can speak a little Korean.
W: Actually, I’m just starting to learn it. I didn’t know anything and it was just difficult to get by when I was there.
M: I see you are an expert at learning languages. What advice would you give to young people who want to learn another language?
W: Well, not everybody has a talent for it. But if you do want to learn it, it takes time. You have to memorize a whole bunch of vocabulary. What’s more, you have to find people who speak the language and chat with them very often so that you’re forced to speak the language. That’s what I did.
M: What helpful advice. Thanks for your coming to our studio tonight.

【原文】Good morning, everyone. Before our class, I’d like to share a story I’ve read recently. It’s about a couple named Scott and Shayna, who became the third and fourth deaf people in the world to get to the top of Mount Everest. For Scott, his passion for mountain climbing began when some of his friends tried to take climbing lessons near Mount Rainier. When he arrived for the lessons, he was told to pay a lot of money, so he refused. He turned to the videos on YouTube, and he tried to learn as much as he could while watching them online. It was a very long, hard journey. There were a lot of different barriers they had to go through to get to Everest. When they reached the top, they were really proud of themselves. I was moved by their spirits. When there are difficulties, we should face them bravely. We may suffer a lot in senior high school, but we must believe hard work can bring us a bright future.

【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. A

【28题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段“Before the invention of chopsticks, the Chinese used only their hands to eat. He objected to the use of knives at the table, feeling that they reminded eaters of the slaughterhouse (屠宰场), so he preferred chopsticks.(在筷子发明之前,中国人只用手吃饭。
根据最后一段“At first, chopsticks were used only by nobles (贵族).(起初,只有贵族才使用筷子)”可知,贵族第一个开始使用筷子。故选C项。
【31题详解】

D
【答案】32. C 33. A 34. B 35. B

【答案】范文:
Admirable Figures Around Us
Dear Organizing Committee,
I am writing to recommend Ms. Zhang, our school’s librarian, as an admirable figure. For 28 years, she has transformed our library into a welcoming space by organizing book donation drives and creating reading corners for rural schools. What makes her extraordinary is her “Midnight Storytelling” program during the 2020 lockdown.
Through online platforms, she read bedtime stories to 500+ isolated children, bringing comfort and love. She even inspired 30 students to volunteer as junior storytellers. This exhibition will highlight ordinary people’s contributions, reminding us that admiration isn’t reserved for celebrities. We can inspire more such actions.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

67. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Early in the morning, I was woken up by the gentle knocks on my door.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Just then and there, I had a good idea. Since there was no time or money for me to buy a gift, I decided to write a letter to express my love to my mother. Having finished the letter, I ran through the album and selected a picture in which Mum and I were having a picnic in a park. After the clock on my bedroom wall struck 11 pm, I went out to the sitting room and put the letter on the table, hoping that she would see it in the morning.
Early in the morning, I was woken up by the gentle knocks on my door. I jumped out of bed and opened the door. There stood my mother, holding tightly to her chest the letter and the picture. Even in the darkness, I still could feel her excitement. “I love the letter and the picture! It is the best gift I have ever received!” my mother said. “The picture has reminded me the happy moments we spent together! Thank you, my sweetheart!”
