Nicholas Sparks is an American author and storyteller whose books have consistently been turned into major Hollywood films. Although not all of his books were sold to Hollywood, all have been The New York Times best-sellers. He has sold over 97 million copies worldwide, with over 65 million of them within the United States alone. He lives with his family in North Carolina. He is also considered to be very generous with his money. In 2011, he created the Nicholas Sparks Foundation to make more opportunities available to children from poor families. His foundation, which he started with his wife, creates scholarships for children from low-income families in rural communities. Sparks has had a very successful career, and he owes that to education. “The education I received prepared me for the world I would be facing in the future,” he said. Even though he is worth an estimated 75 million dollars or so, Sparks seems to live the values he presents in his books.

Zhang Hongjun once spent his days on noisy construction sites in Shanghai, far from his rural hometown in Fujian province. For over a decade, his life followed a common path: long hours of labor, low pay, and the loneliness of being a migrant worker in a vast city. He dreamed of a change but saw few opportunities back home.
A visit became a turning point. Staying in his village, Zhang noticed something new. The roads were paved, internet access had reached the village and the local government was offering support to those willing to start businesses. The beautiful mountains and fresh air, once taken for granted, now seemed full of potential to him. An idea began to form: what if he could build a future here, not just make a living there?
Using his savings and a small government allowance, Zhang took a daring step. He transformed his family’s old, empty house into a modern café, a place where city visitors could enjoy coffee while viewing the terraced fields (梯田). At first, neighbors were puzzled. “Who will come to the mountains for coffee?” they asked. Zhang persisted (坚持), learning about coffee beans and coffee-making skills online.
Today, “Mountain Cloud Café” is more than a coffee shop. It’s a window for his village. Tourists come on weekends, and in his café they discover and buy local specialties like mountain tea and dried fruits. Zhang has hired two local women, providing them with steady income. More importantly, his success has sparked (引发) a conversation. A few other young people, who once thought leaving was the only option, are now asking, “Could I come back too?”
“My dream isn’t huge,” Zhang says, looking at the lively scene outside. “I just want our home to prosper, so that our children love to stay here.” His journey paints a picture of modern rural China — one where returning wings bring new life.
24.Which of the following best describes Zhang’s early life as a migrant worker?
A.Simple. B.Secure. C.Unsatisfying. D.Undisturbing.
25.Why did Zhang return and start his Café business?
A.He failed in his job in Shanghai. B.He was in poor health in the city.
C.He was invited by the local government. D.He found new changes and support in his village.
26.What can we learn about Mountain Cloud Café?
A.It helps develop the village. B.It features special coffee beans.
C.It is profitable and custom-made. D.It is popular from beginning to end.
27.What can be the most suitable title for the text?
A.A New Trend of Village Tourism B.The Importance of Local Specialties
C.From Migrant Worker to Café Owner D.Between the city and the village
【答案】24.C 25.D 26.A 27.C
根据第一段“For over a decade, his life followed a common path: long hours of labor, low pay, and the loneliness of being a migrant worker in a vast city.(十多年来,他的人生走的是一条(外来务工群体)常见的道路:长时间的劳作、微薄的收入,以及在一座大城市里作为外来务工人员所经历的孤独)”可知,张宏军作为农民工的生活漫长、收入低、孤独,这体现的是“令人不满意”。
根据第二段“The roads were paved, internet access had reached the village and the local government was offering support to those willing to start businesses. The beautiful mountains and fresh air, once taken for granted, now seemed full of potential to him.(道路已铺设完毕,互联网也已覆盖到村庄,当地政府还为有意创业的人提供支持。那些曾经习以为常的美丽山景和清新空气,如今在他眼中充满了无限潜力)”可知,他回乡发现“道路铺好、网络覆盖、政府支持创业”等新变化,从而萌生开咖啡馆的想法。
26.细节理解题。根据第四段“It’s a window for his village. Tourists come on weekends, and in his café they discover and buy local specialties like mountain tea and dried fruits. Zhang has hired two local women, providing them with steady income.(这是他村庄的一扇窗口。周末游客纷至沓来,在他的咖啡馆里发现并购买当地特产,如山茶和干果。张雇佣了两名本地女性,为她们提供了稳定的收入)”可知,咖啡馆成为“村庄的窗口”,带动旅游、销售土特产、雇佣当地妇女,并引发年轻人回乡思考,这些都体现了“帮助村庄发展”。
27.主旨大意题。根据最后一段““My dream isn’t huge,” Zhang says, looking at the lively scene outside. “I just want our home to prosper, so that our children love to stay here.” His journey paints a picture of modern rural China — one where returning wings bring new life.(“我的梦想并不宏大,”张看着外面热闹的景象说道,“我只是希望我们的家兴旺起来,让我们的孩子愿意留在这里。”他的经历描绘出一幅现代中国农村的图景——一个归来的翅膀带来新生的地方)”以及全文围绕张宏军从农民工转变为咖啡馆老板的经历展开,并突出这一转变对乡村的积极影响。C项(从农民工到咖啡馆老板)最符合文章标题。

No matter how old we get, there will always be some songs that transport us back in time. We only need to hear a few notes of a tune, and we remember where we were when we first heard it, what we were doing and who we were with.
For most people the songs that remain most meaningful are those from their teens and 20s. The continued impact of these songs is due to something called the “reminiscence bump” — a tendency for people to have more vivid memories from their youth and early adulthood. During this time our brains are still developing, and we have less control over our emotions, which makes our experiences more vivid and the music we hear more intense.
That’s why, for most people, the emotional connection to music peaks during adolescence and early adulthood. In fact, a new study from Finland suggests that this peak is actually around the age of 17. Previous studies have looked at the “reminiscence bump” in Western populations, but the Finnish research team wanted to look at how it affects people globally, and if it affects men and women differently.
They studied 1,891 people from 84 countries. The participants were first asked to share their age and to name a piece of music that was important or meaningful to them. The researchers then compared the participants’ ages with the release dates of the music they named. The average peak age for personally meaningful music was 17, although there was some difference between men and women. And, for men, the peak age was around 16, while for women it was 19.
One possible explanation for this is that men tend to form their music-related memories earlier, during the resistant stage of adolescence, perhaps choosing songs that celebrate independence. Women, on the other hand, may prefer music that relates to important social and emotional connections, which take longer to develop.
28.What can be learned about “reminiscence bump” from paragraph 2?
A.It transports us to childhood. B.It generates vivid memories.
C.It intensifies youthful experiences. D.It helps recollect adolescent events.
29.What does the Finnish research team focus on?
A.Challenging existing theories and collecting new data.
B.Identifying the peak age and comparing music preference.
C.Expanding the research scope and observing gender difference.
D.Confirming previous findings and analyzing emotional intensity.
30.What can we infer about the study from paragraph 4?
A.It adopted a quantitative research method.
B.It targeted participants of different age groups.
C.It focused on the evolution of music release time.
D.It yielded findings beyond researchers’ expectations.
31.Why do men and women have different peak ages?
A.They mature at varying ages. B.They favor distinct music themes.
C.They have diverse musical talents. D.They value separate social behaviors.
【答案】28.D 29.C 30.A 31.B
根据第二段中“reminiscence bump”后面的“a tendency for people to have more vivid memories from their youth and early adulthood(人们对自己青年和成年早期的记忆更为生动的一种倾向)”可知,“记忆隆起”的核心特征是使人更容易回想起青少年时期发生的相关事件。
根据第三段中的“Previous studies have looked at the “reminiscence bump” in Western populations, but the Finnish research team wanted to look at how it affects people globally, and if it affects men and women differently.(此前的研究针对西方人群研究了“记忆隆起”现象,但芬兰研究团队想要探究它对全球人群的影响,以及它对男性和女性的影响是否存在差异)”可知,该团队的研究重点是将研究范围从西方拓展至全球,同时观察该现象的性别差异。
根据第四段中的“They studied 1,891 people from 84 countries. The participants were first asked to share their age and to name a piece of music that was important or meaningful to them. The researchers then compared the participants’ ages with the release dates of the music they named.(他们研究了来自84个国家的1891名受试者。研究人员首先要求受试者告知自己的年龄,并说出一段对自己而言重要或有特殊意义的音乐。随后,研究人员将受试者的年龄与他们所提及音乐的发行日期进行了对比。)”可知,该研究选取大量受试者,采集数据并进行比对,采用的是定量研究的方式。
31.细节理解题。根据第五段“One possible explanation for this is that men tend to form their music-related memories earlier, during the resistant stage of adolescence, perhaps choosing songs that celebrate independence. Women, on the other hand, may prefer music that relates to important social and emotional connections, which take longer to develop.(对此一种可能的解释是,男性往往更早形成与音乐相关的记忆,这一阶段处于青春期的叛逆期,他们或许会选择歌颂独立的歌曲。而女性则可能更喜欢与重要的社交和情感联结相关的音乐,这类情感联结需要更长时间才会建立。)”可知,男女偏好的音乐主题存在明显差异,这是二者峰值年龄不同的原因。
D
When people think of urban air pollution, vehicle exhaust and industrial emissions usually come to mind first. For decades, these have been the primary targets of environmental regulations. However, a new study suggests that everyday cooking may be a much larger contributor to urban air pollution than previously recognized.
The research, published in ACS ES&T Air, analyzed air samples and applied an advanced data-driven approach to identify the sources of organic aerosols (有机气溶胶) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in urban environments. The team found that cooking emissions account for about 7% of total VOCs. More importantly, they identified cooking organic aerosols as making up roughly 21% of total organic aerosols in the air. These cooking-emitted VOCs contribute to both secondary pollution formation and health risks.
The study also pointed out a significant defect. Previously, cooking-emitted VOCs had been largely overlooked in VOC assessments as they are difficult to identify among the complex mixture of urban pollutants. The researchers confirmed their findings by directly comparing them with kitchen cooking experiments, which showed strong relation.
“These findings challenge the previous practice of simply emitting cooking gas outdoors to protect indoor air quality,” the study suggests. “More effective measures to deal with cooking exhaust before it is released may be necessary.”
The discovery is particularly significant for cities with greater populations, where millions of meals are prepared daily in both homes and restaurants. While cooking is an essential part of daily life, the study indicates that its environmental impact has been underestimated. The researchers emphasized that this does not mean people should stop cooking, but rather that urban air quality management strategies need to be updated to include this previously overlooked source.
As cities continue to strengthen regulations on vehicle and industrial emissions, the relative importance of cooking-related pollution is likely to grow. The study serves as a reminder that solving the air pollution problems requires looking beyond the usual suspects.
32.What does the new study find about cooking emissions?
A.They are more dangerous than vehicle exhaust.
B.They were underestimated as an air pollutant source.
C.They have been the focus of regulations for decades.
D.They account for the largest part of the VOCs.
33.What does the underlined word “defect” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Statistic. B.Shortcoming.
C.Discussion. D.Prediction.
34.What may the researchers suggest based on their findings?
A.Reducing the frequency of home cooking.
B.Treating cooking exhaust before releasing it.
C.Shifting the focus to industrial emissions.
D.Conducting more kitchen cooking experiments.
35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Cooking pollution will decrease as vehicle emissions drop.
B.Cooking will replace vehicles as the main pollution source.
C.The relative importance of cooking pollution may become more evident.
D.Current regulations on cooking are already strict enough.
根据第一段中“However, a new study suggests that everyday cooking may be a much larger contributor to urban air pollution than previously recognized. (然而,一项新研究表明,日常烹饪对城市空气污染的贡献可能比之前所认为的要大得多。)”以及第五段中“While cooking is an essential part of daily life, the study indicates that its environmental impact has been underestimated. (虽然烹饪是日常生活中必不可少的一部分,但研究表明,其对环境的影响一直被低估了。)”可知,烹饪排放作为空气污染物来源被低估了。
33.词句猜测题。根据第三段中“The study also pointed out a significant defect. Previously, cooking-emitted VOCs had been largely overlooked in VOC assessments as they are difficult to identify among the complex mixture of urban pollutants. (这项研究还指出了一个重大defect。此前,烹饪排放的挥发性有机化合物(VOCs)在挥发性有机化合物评估中在很大程度上被忽视,因为它们在城市污染物的复杂混合物中难以识别。)”可知,此处指以往评估存在重大不足、缺陷,“defect”意为“缺陷、不足”。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段中“More effective measures to deal with cooking exhaust before it is released may be necessary. (可能有必要采取更有效的措施,在烹饪废气排放之前对其进行处理。)”可知,研究人员建议在排放前处理烹饪废气。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“As cities continue to strengthen regulations on vehicle and industrial emissions, the relative importance of cooking-related pollution is likely to grow. (随着城市继续加强对车辆和工业排放的监管,烹饪相关污染的相对重要性可能会增加。)”可知,随着对车辆和工业排放的管控加强,烹饪污染的相对重要性可能会更加明显。
第二节(共5小题, 每小题2. 5分, 共12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Hiking has been gaining rapid popularity in recent years. From 2018 to 2021, the number of Americans hitting the trails increased from around 48 million to 59 million. 36
Hiking offers all the cardiovascular (心血管的)benefits of walking. 37 the uneven trails strengthen legs and muscles more effectively than walking on flat surfaces. This in turn improves balance and stability, making hiking a full-body workout.
38 Spending time in nature and experiencing awe-inspiring landscapes can reduce stress and anxiety. A 2015 study found that people who walked in nature for 90 minutes were less likely to suffer from depression — compared to those who walked in urban environments.
However, hiking does carry some risks. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it’s important to take a few simple precautions. If you’re a new hiker, go with a friend or join a local group. 39 Remember: The point is to be able to see the views and smell the flowers.
In conclusion, hiking is more than just exercise. 40 By following basic safety guidelines, hikers can ensure they return home safe and ready for their next adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, the trails offer something for everyone.
A.Tie your boots and start exploring.
B.Hiking also promotes mental well-being.
C.But its advantages go further than heart health.
D.Push yourself harder and faster through challenging trails.
E.It’s a well-rounded activity that benefits both the body and mind.
F.Always inform someone of your plans and check in with them afterward.

A 2015 study found that people who walked in nature for 90 minutes were less likely to suffer from depression — compared to those who walked in urban environments.(在大自然中度过时光,领略令人叹为观止的风景,可以减轻压力和焦虑。 B“Hiking also promotes mental well-being.(徒步旅行也有助于提升心理健康)”能够概括本段的主旨。
39.根据上文“To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it’s important to take a few simple precautions. If you’re a new hiker, go with a friend or join a local group.(为了确保有一次安全且愉快的体验,采取一些简单的预防措施是很重要的。如果你是一名徒步新手,可以和朋友一起去,或者加入当地的徒步团体)”可知,徒步旅行有一定风险,要采取一些预防措施。选项F“Always inform someone of your plans and check in with them afterward.(一定要告知他人你的行程计划,并且事后和他们报备情况)”是具体的安全预防措施,与前文内容相呼应。
40.根据上文“In conclusion, hiking is more than just exercise.(总之,徒步旅行不仅仅是一种运动)”可知,徒步旅行不仅仅是锻炼。选项E“It’s a well-rounded activity that benefits both the body and mind.(它是一项全面的活动,对身心都有益处)”进一步总结了徒步旅行的特点,既包括前文提到的对身体的益处,也包括对心理的益处,符合语境。

Chen Ning Yang, a famous Chinese physicist and Nobel Prize winner, passed away at the age of 103, according to Chinese media. He was known as one of the 56 (influential) scientists in the world.
In 1957, Yang and another physicist, Tsung-Dao Lee, 57 (win) the Nobel Prize in Physics for their research on the law of parity. Their discovery helped people better understand elementary particles, the tiny parts that make up all matter.
Born in 1922 in Anhui Province, Yang was the eldest of five children. Growing up on the campus of Tsinghua University, 58 his father taught mathematics, he developed 59 deep love for science. As a teenager, Yang once told his parents, “One day, I want to win the Nobel Prize.” 60 (remarkable), this dream came true at the age of 35. Having earned his bachelor’s degree in 1942 from the National Southwest Associated University in Kunming, Yang kept on 61 (complete) a master’s degree at Tsinghua. After the Sino-Japanese War, he went to the United States on a Tsinghua scholarship 62 studied at the University of Chicago under Enrico Fermi, who built the world’s first nuclear reactor.

My grandfather, a doctor for over forty years, always told me that health is the real wealth. I never understood what he meant until last year, when I found myself in a situation that forced me to rethink my lifestyle.
At eighteen, I thought I was unbeatable. I was in my final year of high school, and my life was all about studying. I woke up at 5 am, drank coffee, and studied until midnight. I skipped breakfast, ate instant noodles for lunch, and had energy drinks during late-night study. I turned down my friends’ invitations to play basketball. “I don’t have time,” I said. “Study is more important.” My parents were worried. My father left a note on my desk, which read, “Your body needs rest.” I put it aside.
However, one morning in November, I woke up feeling strange. My heart was racing, my hands were shaking, and I could barely stand. When I tried to get up, my legs gave way and I fell to the floor. Everything went black.
When I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital bed. A doctor was checking my blood pressure, his face serious. “You’ve overworked your body,” he said. “Your heart is under extreme stress. If you continue, you could cause permanent damage.” I stared at the ceiling, unable to speak.
That evening, my grandfather came to visit. He sat by my bed. He didn’t scold me. Instead, he told me a story about a young doctor who worked day and night, ignored his health, and collapsed from exhaustion at thirty-five. “He survived,” my grandfather said, “but he never fully recovered. And he always regretted it.”
That night, I couldn’t sleep. I thought about all the meals I had skipped, all the sleep I had given up, and all the moments with friends and family I had missed. I had been so focused on my goal that I had forgotten something essential: without my health, nothing else would matter. I made a decision right then and there.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
The next morning, I told my parents about my decision.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The following months, I slowly began to rebuild my life and health.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next morning, I told my parents about my decision. “I’m going to change,” I said, my voice trembling but firm. My mother’s eyes filled with tears of relief, and my father gave me a rare, warm smile. “We’ll help you,” he said softly. Together, we drew up a new daily schedule, which included three proper meals, eight hours of sleep, and a thirty-minute walk every evening. For the first time in months, I actually looked forward to the day ahead instead of dreading the exhaustion that awaited me.
The following months, I slowly began to rebuild my life and health. I started each morning with a nutritious breakfast instead of coffee. I joined my friends for basketball on weekends, laughing and sweating under the sun. To my surprise, my grades didn’t drop. In fact, they improved because I studied with a clear mind and a rested body. I learned that health is not something to give up for success — it is what makes success possible. My grandfather’s words, “Health is the real wealth,” finally made sense to me.

C

G.This growth reflects hiking’s appeal as a way to stay active and connect with nature.

No matter how old we get, there will always be some songs that transport us back in time.We only need to
hear a few notes of a tune, and we remember where we were when we first heard it,what we were doing and who
we were with.
For most people the songs that remain most meaningful are those from their teens and 20s.The continued
impact of these songs is due to something called the "reminiscence bump"-a tendency for people to have more
vivid memories from their youth and early adulthood.During this time our brains are still developing, and we have
less control over our emotions, which makes our experiences more vivid and the music we hear more intense.
That's why,for most people, the emotional connection to music peaks during adolescence and early
adulthood. In fact,a new study from Finland suggests that this peak is actually around the age of 17.Previous
studies have looked at the"reminiscence bump"in Western populations, but the Finnish research team wanted to
look at how it affects people globally, and if it affects men and women differently
They studied 1,891 people from 84 countries. The participants were first asked to share their age and to
name a piece of music that was important or meaningful to them. The researchers then compared the participants'
ages with the release dates of the music they named. The average peak age for personally meaningful music was
17,although there was some difference between men and women. And,for men,the peak age was around 16,
while for women it was 19.
One possible explanation for this is that men tend to form their music-related memories earlier, during the
resistant stage of adolescence, perhaps choosing songs that celebrate independence.Women,on the other hand,
may prefer music that relates to important social and emotional connections, which take longer to develop.
28.What can be learned about"reminiscence bump"from paragraph 2?
A.It transports us to childhood.
B.It generates vivid memories
C.It intensifies youthful experiences
D.It helps recollect adolescent events
29.What does the Finnish research team focus on?
A.Challenging existing theories and collecting new data.
B.Identifying the peak age and comparing music preference.
C.Expanding the research scope and observing gender difference.
D.Confirming previous findings and analyzing emotional intensity.

When people think of urban air pollution, vehicle exhaust and industrial emissions usually come to mind
first. For decades, these have been the primary targets of environmental regulations. However,a new study
suggests that everyday cooking may be a much larger contributor to urban air pollution than previously
recognized.
The research, published in ACS ES&T Air,analyzed air samples and applied an advanced data-driven
approach to identify the sources of organic aerosols(有机气溶胶)and volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in
urban environments. The team found that cooking emissions account for about 7%of total VOCs.More
importantly, they identified cooking organic aerosols as making up roughly 21%of total organic aerosols in the air.
These cooking-emitted VOCs contribute to both secondary pollution formation and health risks.
The study also pointed out a significant defect.Previously,cooking-emitted VOCs had been largely
overlooked in VOC assessments as they are difficult to identify among the complex mixture of urban pollutants.
The researchers confirmed their findings by directly comparing them with kitchen cooking experiments, which
showed strong relation.
"These findings challenge the previous practice of simply emitting cooking gas outdoors to protect indoor
air quality,"the study suggests."More effective measures to deal with cooking exhaust before it is released may
be necessary."
The discovery is particularly significant for cities with greater populations, where millions of meals are
prepared daily in both homes and restaurants. While cooking is an essential part of daily life, the study indicates
that its environmental impact has been underestimated. The researchers emphasized that this does not mean people
should stop cooking, but rather that urban air quality management strategies need to be updated to include this
previously overlooked source.

G.This growth reflects hiking’s appeal as a way to stay active and connect with nature.
