Answer the following questions.
If you are going to be a straight talker, you have to believe that it’s a good point.
If you have an opinion and you just say it, it allows the other person to either try to change your opinion, or to agree with you. If you are quiet, people think you agree. How can you then further the conversation when you have different opinions and they are not really expressed? Agreeing is easy. Disagreeing takes more courage.
Several years back, when I was CEO at Autodesk, there was a very senior-level woman who was very smart and well-spoken but she did not wear proper clothes. It was distracting and she was not being taken seriously. I said to her manager, who was male, “You need to tell her.” He said, “Oh, no way.”
So I called her in and frankly said what I thought was happening. I told her, “You are not getting the respect you deserve.” I said, “Go and get a personal shopper. Just say, ‘I’m a senior businessperson and need help dressing appropriately’”. She came back, and oh, it was a different person. She said she felt really good. And her promotion (晋升) went way up.
Early in my business career, if people asked me a question, I’d try to answer it honestly. And that helped me in return. I had managers who wanted me around because I would actually tell them what was happening.
41.In writer’s opinion, being a straight talker is a good point, isn’t it?
42.What was the problem with the senior-level woman?
43.Why did the writer call the senior-level woman instead of her manager?
44.How did the writer tell the senior-level woman’s problem?
45.What happened to the senior-level woman after she took the writer’s advice?
46.Do you think being a straight talker is a good point? Why or why not?
41.Yes, it is. 42.She did not wear proper clothes. 43.Because her manager refused to tell her. 44.Frankly, she told her she was not getting the respect she deserved. 45.She felt really good and her promotion went way up. 46.Yes, I think being a straight talker is a good point because it allows for honest communication and can help resolve issues more effectively./No, I don’t think being a straight talker is always a good point because it can sometimes hurt others’ feelings or cause unnecessary conflict.
根据原文“If you are going to be a straight talker, you have to believe that it’s a good point.” 故填Yes, it is.

43.根据原文“I said to her manager, who was male, ‘You need to tell her.’ He said, ‘Oh, no way.’ So I called her in...” Because her manager refused to tell her.
44.根据原文“So I called her in and frankly said what I thought was happening. I told her, ‘You are not getting the respect you deserve.’” Frankly, she told her she was not getting the respect she deserved.
45.根据原文“She came back, and oh, it was a different person. She said she felt really good. And her promotion went way up.” She felt really good and her promotion went way up.
Yes, I think being a straight talker is a good point because it allows for honest communication and can help resolve issues more effectively./No, I don’t think being a straight talker is always a good point because it can sometimes hurt others’ feelings or cause unnecessary conflict.
