Recently, video clips of Zhang Jianns, a sanitation (环卫) worker, directing foreigners have gone viral online. Her fluent English and confident feature showcased in the videos have deeply impressed the viewers, sparking curiosity about how an ordinary-looking sanitation worker had such impressive English skills.
Behind the hit lies a decade-long journey of persistence. In 2012, Zhang Jianna took on the role of a sanitation worker in the embassy (大使馆) area of Sanlitun in Beijing’s Chaoyang district. A special encounter while working has motivated Zhang to learn English by herself, which she continues with determination to this day. “My goal is quite simple. I just want to help whenever Someone is in need, whether asking for directions, visa procedures, or telling them about the embassy area I am responsible for,” said Zhang.
Thus, at the age of 40, Zhang began a personal challenge. Without a teacher, she began learning English from her children’s textbooks, starting with basic words and phrases commonly used for giving directions. With no fixed study hours, she used every spare moment. While others rested, she memorized vocabulary and practiced speaking. Upon arriving home after work, she would write down new knowledge points and review them until she thoroughly understood them. Over the years, she has filled over a dozen notebooks. Her memory posed her biggest challenge. “Learning English at an older age, I would easily forget the words I learned before. Persistence is the key to learning English. Learn step by step, learn every day,” Zhang said.
When asked about the greatest reward of learning English, Zhang said, “Growing up in a rural area without a college education, I sometimes feared being looked down upon. But every time I help a stranger in English, I feel incredibly accomplished.” “Tiring, but satisfying,” Zhang Jianna reflects on her work and language learning. “To serve others makes me happy, and it’s where I prove my self-worth,” said Zhang. “After retirement, I also want to introduce my hometown in English and improve local tourism,” she said, acknowledging that her inspiring journey has led to this new goal.
4. What aroused curiosity about Zhang Jianna?
A. Her confident expression. B. Her role as a sanitation worker.
C. Her great fluency in English. D. Her friendly attitude to foreigners.
5. How did Zhang Jianna learn English?
A. With the help of a teacher. B. Through watching videos online.
C. From her children’s textbooks. D. By attending language classes.
6. What does Zhang Jianna think of the greatest reward of learning English?
A. Better job opportunities. B. Respect from family members.
C. Social recognition. D. Self-confidence.
7. What is Zhang Jianna’s future goal related to English learning?
A. To promote local tourism in her hometown. B. To become a language teacher.
C. To work in an embassy abroad. D. To write a book in English.
【答案】4. C 5. C 6. D 7. A

Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are in the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that the sport of your choice might have a great influence on the environment.
Some sports are resource-hungry (资源消耗大的). Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (高尔夫球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of some countries, golf is often held responsible for a serious water shortage.
There are many environmentally friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your wallet. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.
Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environmentally friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled (回收的) materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centres. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.
8. Which of the following is the author most probably in favour of?
A. Cycling around a lake. B. Motor racing in the desert.
C. Playing basketball in a gym. D. Swimming in a sports centre.
9. What can we learn about golf?
A. It is popular in the dry regions.
B. It causes a water shortage around the world.
C. It pollutes the Earth with chemicals and wastes.
D. It needs water and power to keep its courses green.
10. Why does the author use power walking as an example?
A. Because it is an outdoor sport.
B. Because it improves our health.
C. Because it uses fewer resources.
D. Because it is recommended by experts.
11. In which part of the magazine can this passage be found?
A. Education. B. Environment. C. Art. D. History.
【答案】8. A 9. D 10. C 11. B

When we think about staying healthy, diet and exercise usually come to mind first. But a new study suggests that for teenagers, healthy habits may start with something more basic: sleep timing. New research shows that late bedtimes can lead to poor diet and less physical activity.
Researchers from Penn State College of Medicine examined how different sides of sleep are connected to what teenagers eat and how much they move. Using hand-worn devices (设备) and in-lab sleep studies, the team tracked different sleep factors including bedtime, wake time and sleep regularity (规律性).
The findings showed that teenagers who went to bed after midnight and woke up after 8 a.m. — often called night owls — ate more food and spent more time sitting. They were more likely to snack more, especially late in the day and at night. Because they woke up later, they often did not eat breakfast. Instead, they ate lunch, dinner and a late-evening snack that was typically less healthy than a traditional breakfast.
Perhaps most importantly, the influence of sleep timing and variability on diet and physical activity was two times stronger during school days. When teenagers are forced to follow early school schedules that fight their natural biological clock, the effects on eating and exercising become more obvious. These relationships weakened during school breaks, when teens have more freedom with their schedule.
The researchers suggest that targeting the regularity and timing of teenagers’ sleep could be a key strategy for encouraging healthy eating and physical activity. “A regular sleep schedule is a powerful tool,” said Pura Ballester-Navarro, the study’s first author, “for parents and caregivers, focusing on continuous sleep schedules during the school year may help protect teens’ health.”
12. How did the researchers collect information?
A. By interviewing volunteers. B. By self-reporting daily habits.
C. Through references to former data. D. Through wearable tech and lab observations.
13. What does the underlined term “night owls” in paragraph 3 probably refer to?
A. Those who exercise at night.
B. Those who snack during the night.
C. Those who stay up and get up late.
D. Those who have difficulty falling asleep.
14. When is the effect of sleep timing on health behaviors strongest according to the study?
A. On weekdays. B. During vacations.
C. On weekends. D. During exam periods.
15. What is Pura Ballester-Navarro’s advice for parents and caregivers?
A. Push teens to sleep early.
B. Ask teens to do more physical activities.
C. Help teens stick to a fixed sleep schedule.
D. Encourage teens to form a healthy eating habit.
【答案】12. D 13. C 14. A 15. C

【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“teenagers who went to bed after midnight and woke up after 8 a.m. — often called night owls (午夜后上床睡觉且早上8点后起床的青少年——常被称为夜猫子)可知,“night owls”指的是那些熬夜且起床晚的人。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“Perhaps most importantly, the influence of sleep timing and variability on diet and physical activity was two times stronger during school days. (也许最重要的是,睡眠定时和睡眠变化对饮食和体育活动的影响在上学日要强两倍。)”可知,根据研究,睡眠定时对健康行为的影响在上学日最强。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段““A regular sleep schedule is a powerful tool,” said Pura Ballester-Navarro, the study’s first author, “for parents and caregivers, focusing on continuous sleep schedules during the school year may help protect teens’ health. (“规律的睡眠时间表是一个强大的工具,”该研究的第一作者普拉·巴列斯特 - 纳瓦罗说,“对于家长和监护人来说,在学年期间关注持续的睡眠时间表可能有助于保护青少年的健康。”)”可知,普拉·巴列斯特 - 纳瓦罗给家长和监护人的建议是帮助青少年坚持固定的睡眠时间表。

47. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I had just gotten out of middle school and was about to enter senior high school. I was so excited to become a big girl, but I also knew I would miss my old school on the first day. I wasn’t going to be walking into the same school, with the same friends and same teachers.
I thought I was ready for the change, though. I had a friend who would be at my new school--my neighbor Jenny. I would be fine.
I soon realized Jenny got popular fast at the new school. But Jenny changed very quickly. She dressed differently, she acted differently, and she talked differently. Undoubtedly, she preferred to spend too much time socializing (交往) rather than study. A part of me didn’t want to be popular by changing myself, but the other half couldn’t help it. So, I sat with Jenny and her friends in the new clique (小圈子). I noticed that when you sat in “the group”, everyone was so nice. They concentrated their topics on eating, dressing, hanging out, and watching videos or movies. I made so many friends that I felt accepted, but I wasn’t myself around them. Gradually, I found myself no longer a hard-working student, showing less interest in exploring the world of knowledge.
Jenny had taught me the “rules” of being popular: where I should shop, what I should say, and what I should stop doing. I changed myself. I tried hard to be the opposite of who I really was, just to be as popular as my “group”. Before long, I just couldn’t take it anymore, because I felt unhappy and anxious about my studies. I wondered how I could get over my loneliness if I separated from the group. So I talked to my mom about it.

【答案】Mom told me “Just be yourself”, and gave me a mini statue of herself. She told me she had undergone the same situation before. And it was the statue that kept her company whenever she felt lonely or anxious. From then on, I shared anything wonderful or awful with the little companion, with which my negative emotions were overcome before an important exam in October. I made up my mind to outdo myself and I made it. However,Jenny began to frown frequently in that she was consider no longer popular due to her poor results.
After the exam in October, I decided to help Jenny with her study. We made full use of every moment that she could have spent on everything but study in the past to be sunk into the world of knowledge. Soon, she made advances and got praise from our class teacher. She became proud again and found herself popular again, however, owing to the success of academic results this time. She thanked me, saying that she gained more confidence. Soon I realized living with your true self, you will be the focus of popularity.

C. Art. D. History.
D

第二节(满分25分)
