The poem, Prelude to the Water Melody, is like a song written by famous ancient Chinese poet, Su Shi (1037–1101), when he was missing his brother, Su Zhe, on the Mid-Autumn Festival night. He looks at the beautiful full moon and has many reflections.
Talking to the Moon
How long will the full moon appear? Wine cup in hand, I ask the sky.
I do not know what time of year. It would be tonight in the palace on high.
He holds his wine cup and asks the moon, “How long will you be so round and full?” He wonders what today’s date is in heaven. He even thinks about flying up to the moon on the wind. But he changes his mind because he thinks the moon palace, though beautiful like crystal (水晶), would be too cold and lonely for him. He decides it’s happier to stay on earth, dancing with his own shadow (影子).
Thinking about Life
Against man she should have no spite.
Why, then when people part, is she often full and bright?
He watches the moon move across the sky, shining its light on people who can’t sleep. He asks a very good question: “Moon, you are not angry with people, so why do you shine your brightest and fullest exactly when people have to be apart?” This shows he is down when being apart from his family.
Making a Wise Wish
Men have sorrow and joy: they meet or part again.
The moon is bright or dim; she may wax or wane.
There has been nothing perfect since the olden days.
So let us wish that man: May live long as he can!
Though miles apart, we’ll share the beauty she displays.
In the end, he realizes that nothing in life is perfect—not for people, and not even for the moon. So, he makes a famous wish: He hopes that even if we are far away from our loved ones, we can all live long and healthy lives, and share the beauty of the same moon. This is a very positive and hopeful feeling.

The sun is going down while children laugh and run through the waves. You lift your phone to catch this beautiful moment. A photo seems like the best way to keep the memory. ___46___
Elizabeth Loftus, a psychology professor at the University of California, Irvine, points out that too many photos can reduce the brain’s ability to store memories. We may keep the picture but lose the feeling of the moment itself. ___47___ When they know a picture is saved, they make less effort to remember. It is like writing down a phone number and then forgetting it because you believe the paper will always stay safe.
Another reason is the attention we give to the act of taking a photo. While trying to find the perfect smile and a clear background, our minds are busy with these details instead of noticing the sounds, smells, and emotions around us. ___48___
___49___ If a person takes a picture carefully and focuses on the small things, like the color of the sky, the shapes of the clouds, it can actually strengthen memory. Later, when we look at those pictures, they can help us recall events more accurately and even bring back feelings that might become less bright.
So, the next time you raise your phone, stop for a moment. ___50___ A photo can be a powerful tool to help memory, but only when it is taken with care and purpose.
A. One reason is that people depend on their camera.
B. However, photo taking does not always cause problems.
C. Think about why you want that picture and what you truly wish to keep.
D. The fact is that we may focus on a totally different object in this situation.
E. But scientists say taking many pictures may not be the best way to remember.
F. The action that seems to protect the memory can steal the chance to experience it fully.

Laozi, also spelled Lao-tzu, is considered the founder of Daoism and one of China’s greatest thinkers. Historians believe he lived around the 6th century BC in the late Zhou Dynasty, a time of big changes. Although many details of his life are not clear, old stories help us know the main parts of his amazing journey.
Laozi was born in the state of Chu. As a child, he loved reading ancient books and thinking about nature. When he grew older, he worked as the keeper of the king’s library. Surrounded (被包围) by books, he learned a great deal about people’s lives and the order of nature. But Laozi soon became tired of politics and city life. He believed that people’s greed (贪婪) and too many rules brought trouble to the world.
When Laozi became old, he decided to leave the capital and rode a water buffalo to the west. At the Hangu Pass, a guard asked him to write down his ideas before leaving. There, the wise man wrote the Dao De Jing, a classic book with about 5,000 Chinese characters. In it, Laozi explains the Dao, the “Way”, as a power that flows through everything. He advises people follow the Dao by practicing wuwei, or non-action, which means living in harmony (和谐) with nature. Laozi also believes that softness and humility (谦逊) can win over force and pride.
After finishing the book, Laozi went on with his quiet journey and was never seen again. For more than two thousand years, his ideas of balance, simplicity, and peaceful leadership have influenced Chinese culture, art, medicine, and even modern environmental thinking. Laozi’s life tells us that true strength comes from patience and living close to nature.

The Super Power of “YET”!
In the fast-moving world, many people hope to succeed overnight. But real progress hardly comes so quickly. True growth takes time, effort, and most importantly, the right mindset, which means the way we think about our own abilities. Psychologist Carol Dweck of Stanford University has spent years studying how mindset shapes success. She says there are two main types:
Fixed Mindset:
People think their abilities are unchangeable. They may think “I’m just not good at math”, and stop trying.
Growth Mindset:
People believe their abilities can grow through practice, strategy, and learning from mistakes.
Dweck’s research shows that a growth mindset greatly improves learning. She also explains that growth happens through four stages (comfort zone—fear zone—learning zone—growth zone). Moving from one zone (区域) to the next isn’t easy. Some people stop because they fear making mistakes and keep thinking, “What if things don’t go as planned?”
To test how to overcome that fear, Dweck worked with the Parkland Soccer Club. Coaches there taught players that mistakes are a natural part of improvement. When a player said “I can’t do this”, the coaches encouraged them to add one small but powerful word “yet”. Saying “I can’t do this yet” changes the meaning. It shows the player simply hasn’t got the skill so far, but believes success will come with hard work.
This idea works beyond sports. Whether you’re solving a difficult math problem, preparing for an English exam, or learning a musical instrument, remember the superpower of “YET”. Challenges are opportunities to grow. Believe in yourself, stay patient, and keep practicing. Your abilities are not fixed—they are waiting to grow!
56. What is the main difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset? (answer within 7 words)
____________________________________________________________________________________________
57. According to the text, in what zone might a person stay if he or she has no confidence? (answer within 2 words)
____________________________________________________________________________________________
58. Why is it difficult for people to move from one zone to the next? (answer within 10 words)
____________________________________________________________________________________________
59. Why do the coaches encourage their players to add “yet” to “I can’t do this.”? (answer with 1 sentence)
____________________________________________________________________________________________
60. What will you tell yourself with a growth mindset if you’re not good at English yet? (answer with 1 sentence)
____________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】56. Whether people’s abilities will change.
57. Fear Zone.
58. Because they fear making mistakes and worry about the unknown/and dealing with the unexpected.
59. Because adding “yet” shows that the player hasn’t got the skill so far but can succeed with more practice/hard work.
60. I can’t learn English well yet.
根据文章表格部分“Fixed Mindset: People think their abilities are unchangeable.”和“Growth Mindset: People believe their abilities can grow”可推知,固定型思维模式和成长型思维模式的主要区别在于人们的能力是否会改变。
【57题详解】
根据文章第二段“four stages (comfort zone—fear zone—learning zone—growth zone)”和“Some people stop because they fear making mistakes and keep thinking, ‘What if things don’t go as planned?’”可推知,没有信心、害怕犯错的人会停留在恐惧区(Fear zone)。
【58题详解】
根据文章第二段“Some people stop because they fear making mistakes and keep thinking, ‘What if things don’t go as planned?’”可推知,人们很难从一个区域进入下一个区域是因为他们害怕犯错和担忧未知/(害怕)处理未知。
【59题详解】
根据文章第三段“It shows the player simply hasn’t got the skill so far, but believes success will come with hard work.”
结合文章第三段“Saying ‘I can’t do this yet’ changes the meaning.”可推知,可以说“我还没(能)把英语学好。”。

Daily Mistake Correction:Helpful or Stressful?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文:
Daily Mistake Correction: Helpful or Stressful?
Daily mistake correction is popular among Grade‑Nine students, but it has both pros and cons.
On one hand, it lets us learn from mistakes and improve our problem‑solving skills. For example, when I correct my math mistakes, I find my weak points and avoid making the same errors again. On the other hand, it may cause too much stress. Sometimes it takes so much time that we have less time for other relaxing activities.
In my opinion, it is helpful if we use it properly. We just need to think over why we failed. In this way, we can make progress without too much pressure.

___49___ If a person takes a picture carefully and focuses on the small things, like the color of the sky, the shapes of the clouds, it can actually strengthen memory. So, the next time you raise your phone, stop for a moment. ___50___ A photo can be a powerful tool to help memory, but only when it is taken with care and purpose.
