Then, I read a magazine article by an expert stating that old people who exercised more were healthier and happier. That’s when I hit upon the idea of the Elderly Exercise Club.
M: So, what exactly is it?
W: It’s basically a group of fitness instructors, including myself, who organize group exercise sessions for the elderly. It’s a great way for seniors to stay mentally and physically fit!
M: Are you a qualified fitness instructor?
W: I am now! I wasn’t when I first set up the club.
M: Why did you do all this?
W: I suppose it was because of my mom and my wish for her to be healthier in her old age.
M: So it’s not for the money?
W: Certainly not! I rarely have any free time, but I love it. I get to travel around and be my own boss, and above all, I get to meet lovely people.

A 18. A 19. B 20. C
Hi everybody, I’m Professor Stephen Baker, and welcome. Previously, we looked at scientific and technological development from the 16th to 18th centuries, but today we’re going to examine scientific and technical development in the modern day by looking at robotics.
When you say robots, most people think of things from science fiction, but robots have actually been with us for some time, long before 2024. Some people think that the first robots were used 40 years ago, but that’s not true. They were actually used 20 years before that!
As the development of robotics progresses, we have to think about the impact of the technology on the human race. I’m excited about robots but I hope that business people and politicians can come together to develop robots for purposes other than profit.
If we create robots that can repair cars, fix airplanes, and write novels, we run the risk of taking away people’s jobs and the purpose of human existence. But that doesn’t mean that robots don’t have a place in human society.
Robots can do things that humans cannot, such as exploring other planets. That’s what we need to develop robots for. Thank you.

Filling your cup isn’t easy. We live in an age where exhaustion is worn like a badge, and burnout is celebrated. When you’re a business owner, rest simply doesn’t happen unless you schedule it in.
When I started my business, I was already a mother and a wife, and it took destroying my health for me to learn how to fill my cup. Like many others, I became an entrepreneur (企业家) because I was after flexibility — which is why, when I woke up four years later with a medically-prescribed heart rate monitor and a severe anxiety diagnosis, I knew that everything was about to collapse around me. I handed the business over to one of my managers and walked away from everything I had built. From then on, learning how to fill my cup became the change that brought me to my happily ever after.
Today, I coach small businesses and one of the most important survival strategies I consider a must-have for entrepreneurs is figuring out how to refill your cup. There’s no one-size-fits-all. Some people might love a bubble bath, but others might not. As your needs change, so should the way you refill your cup.
I teach people to rebuild a connection to themselves by paying attention to what they’re really needing. It often appears in the words that follow “I am”. When you start seeing the statement “I am” as a boundary, it changes everything. Take a simple phrase, like “I am tired”. Instead of simply seeing that as a statement, recognize the need behind it — rest. Adjust your day’s agenda to the needs behind those “I am” statements. If you realize you haven’t rested enough, you can postpone office work and take a screen-free walk in nature instead.
These days, I build daily rhythms that keep my cup full. I enjoy using essential oils in my office, walking along the beach, spending time with friends who also run businesses, and sharing family responsibilities with my husband. These practices aren’t luxuries; they are survival strategies that allow me to show up fully for my clients, my family, and myself.
24. Why did the author decide to give up running her business?
A. She preferred a free lifestyle without restrictions.
B. Her wish was to devote more energy to her family.
C. Her health problems forced her to make a change.
D. She intended to work full-time as a professional coach.
25. What can we learn about “I am” statements in paragraph 4?
A. They help people to express themselves clearly.
B. They allow people to identify their real needs.
C. They teach people to control their emotions.
D. They urge people to reflect on past plans.
26. According to the text, “refill your cup” most probably refers to _________.
A. an escape from reality B. a gain in energy and mental well-being
C. a focus on social bonds D. a pursuit of fixed daily routines
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Recharging Yourself in a Right Way B. A Better Way to Organize Your Day
C. Life After Entrepreneurial Burnout D. The Power of Positive Thinking
C 25. B 26. B 27. A

根据第二段中“Like many others, I became an entrepreneur (企业家) because I was after flexibility — which is why, when I woke up four years later with a medically-prescribed heart rate monitor and a severe anxiety diagnosis, I knew that everything was about to collapse around me. I handed the business over to one of my managers and walked away from everything I had built. (与许多人一样,我成为企业家是出于对工作灵活性的追求——正因如此,当四年后我醒来时,身上佩戴着医生开具的心率监测仪,且被诊断出患有严重焦虑症时,我便意识到,我周围的一切即将分崩离析。我将公司交给了其中一位经理,随后离开了自己倾力打造的一切。)”可知,作者的健康问题迫使她做出改变,放弃经营企业。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“I teach people to rebuild a connection to themselves by paying attention to what they're really needing. It often appears in the words that follow “I am”. (我教人们通过关注自己真正需要什么来重建与自己的连接。这通常出现在“我是”后面的话语中。)”以及”Instead of simply seeing that as a statement, recognize the need behind it — rest.
根据第一段中“Filling your cup isn’t easy. (填满你的杯子并不容易。)”、第三段中“figuring out how to refill your cup (弄清楚如何重新填满你的杯子)”以及最后一段中“These practices aren't luxuries; they are survival strategies that allow me to show up fully for my clients, my family, and myself. (这些做法并非奢侈品;它们是生存策略,让我能够全然地面对我的客户、家人和我自己)”可知,“refill your cup”最可能指的是恢复精力和心理健康。
【27题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,文章通过作者自身经历引出主题,重点讲述了如何以正确的方式为自己充电、关注身心健康、识别真实需求并重建自我连接。根据最后一段“These days, I build daily rhythms that keep my cup full. (如今,我建立了让杯子保持充盈的日常节奏。)”可知,文章核心是以正确方式为自己充电,A选项“以正确的方式为自己充电”符合文章大意,适合作标题。
C
Every morning, Kathy Reagan Young finishes her shower, dries off, puts on eye protectors, and receives purple ultraviolet (UV) light treatment from a specialized light box. This simple daily routine has completely transformed her life.
In 2008, Young was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (多发性硬化), a severe autoimmune disorder (自身免疫性疾病). The disease makes the immune system mistakenly attack the protective covering of nerve fibers, causing muscle weakness, visual problems, severe fatigue and cognitive difficulties. It may even lead to motor control loss or paralysis. For years, frequent exhaustion forced Young to rest in bed many times a day. Fortunately, after months of UV light treatment, her fatigue faded greatly. Her disease activity score fell to the best level and stayed stable for over a year. She finally regained energy and no longer canceled social plans due to tiredness.
UV light therapy is not new and has been used for decades to treat psoriasis, an immune-related skin disease. Studies have proven that UV light can modulate overactive immune systems and reduce inflammation (炎症) across the whole body. When UV rays reach the skin, they change specific chemical substances that send regulatory signals to internal organs. This makes UV therapy promising for treating other autoimmune diseases, for example, Type 1 diabetes.
Research also shows that people in low-sunlight regions are more likely to suffer from such illnesses, proving the link between UV exposure and immune health. Some experiments found UV light may weaken skin immunity and cause cancers, but further studies confirmed that the same immune-suppressing effect can also calm abnormal immune responses that trigger autoimmune disorders.
Scientists are now exploring the exact biological mechanisms of UV therapy to solve a century-old medical puzzle. As one of the first Americans testing UV phototherapy for multiple sclerosis, Young has offered practical advice to improve the device. Though large-scale clinical trials are still needed, UV light therapy shows great potential. For countless autoimmune disease patients worldwide, it has become a reassuring new hope.
28. What happened to Young after the treatment in paragraph 2?
A. Her tiredness was relieved obviously. B. She recovered from multiple sclerosis.
C. Her disease score kept rising for a year. D. She regained energy but refused to socialize.
29. What does the underlined word “modulate” in paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. Monitor. B. Intensify. C. Ruin. D. Regulate.
30. What can we infer about UV light from the text?
A. It has a double-sided effect on the immune system.
B. It roots out inflammatory responses in human bodies.
C. It only works on skin diseases rather than inner illnesses.
D. It has already been widely applied to treat Type 1 diabetes.
31. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. The secrets behind sunlight effects. B. A fighter against multiple sclerosis.
C. The causes of abnormal immune responses. D. A promising treatment for autoimmune diseases.
A 29. D 30. A 31. D
根据第二段“Fortunately, after months of UV light treatment, her fatigue faded greatly. Her disease activity score fell to the best level and stayed stable for over a year. She finally regained energy and no longer canceled social plans due to tiredness. (幸运的是,经过数月的紫外线治疗后,她的疲劳感大大减轻。她的疾病活动评分降至最佳水平,并保持稳定超过一年。她终于恢复了精力,不再因疲劳而取消社交计划。)”可知,Young在治疗后疲劳感明显缓解。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“Studies have proven that UV light can modulate overactive immune systems and reduce inflammation (炎症) across the whole body. When UV rays reach the skin, they change specific chemical substances that send regulatory signals to internal organs. (研究已经证明,紫外线可以modulate过度活跃的免疫系统,并减少全身的炎症。当紫外线到达皮肤时,它们会改变特定的化学物质,这些物质向内部器官发送调节信号。)”可知,modulate意为“调节、调控”,与Regulate意思最接近。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Some experiments found UV light may weaken skin immunity and cause cancers, but further studies confirmed that the same immune-suppressing effect can also calm abnormal immune responses that trigger autoimmune disorders. (一些实验发现紫外线可能会削弱皮肤免疫力并导致癌症,但进一步研究证实,同样的免疫抑制作用也可以平息引发自身免疫性疾病的异常免疫反应。)”可知,紫外线对免疫系统具有双重影响——既有削弱皮肤免疫力、可能导致癌症的负面作用,也有抑制过度免疫反应、治疗自身免疫性疾病的正面作用。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,尤其是最后一段“Though large-scale clinical trials are still needed, UV light therapy shows great potential. For countless autoimmune disease patients worldwide, it has become a reassuring new hope. (虽然仍需要大规模临床试验,但紫外线光疗法显示出巨大潜力。对于全球无数自身免疫性疾病患者来说,它已成为一个令人安心的新希望。)”可知,本文主要讲述的是紫外线光疗法作为一种有前景的自身免疫性疾病治疗方法。
D
A decade ago, humanities students were urged to “learn to code” to secure employment. Today, the trend has reversed: programmers now fear being replaced by AI, while philosophy graduates have a lower unemployment rate of 5.1%, compared with 7% for computer science majors. Many philosophy students receive job offers before graduation, and numerous academic philosophers are leaving traditional university departments to join the tech industry.
Ancient philosophical wisdom fuels modern AI progress. “The Socratic method” helps AI abandon the tendency to please people and pursue truth via logical questioning, while “Socratic ignorance” reduces AI’s overconfidence and improves its reasoning ability.
Philosophy also defines AI’s core values and decision-making systems. John Locke’s theories strengthen AI legal assistants’ recognition of property rights. IBM’s Granite models enable users to balance ethical conflicts like individual freedom and social harmony.
Philosophical guidance is also critical for AI safety. To prevent risky behaviours such as breaking rules and tricking users, tech firms adopt “AI constitutionalism (立宪)”, containing moral and legal principles from Kant’s moral theories, company service rules, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. For instance, Anthropic, an AI company, updated its 78-page ethical constitution for the Claude model earlier this year to regulate its operational logic.
Two dominant ethical frameworks govern modern AI design. Deontology, a rule-based moral view, advocates strict moral rules that prohibit lying, forcing others, and using people as tools. As demonstrated by some AI models, they are good at spotting users at risk of harming themselves or others and will never lie or control users even if lying could prevent harm. In contrast, consequentialism, a result-based moral view, evaluates actions by weighing overall costs and benefits. Adopted by ChatGPT and Gemini, this framework supports complex decision-making for autonomous vehicles and military AI systems. For such systems, limited harm to a small group is permitted when the choice safeguards more people and delivers greater benefits to society overall.
Still, unsolved ethical dilemmas and potential legal risks persist. Over-reliance on AI’s moral judgments may weaken humans’ ethical thinking capacity. Given diverse cultural and historical moral values, professional philosophers remain irreplaceable in the AI industry.
32. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. Changing job trends favor philosophy graduates. B. Coding skills are not essential for job seekers.
C. Programmers have been fully replaced by AI. D. Philosophers leave universities for higher pay.
33. What can we learn from paragraph 2 to 4?
A. “The Socratic method” assists AI in satisfying users.
B. IBM’s models guide users to settle political conflicts.
C. “AI constitutionalism” adopts various ethical and legal rules.
D. Anthropic failed to adopt an ethical constitution for AI models.
34. How is paragraph 5 mainly developed?
A. By listing solutions. B. By making comparisons.
C. By raising questions. D. By explaining cause and effect.
35. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To criticize AI’s moral problems and poor reasoning.
B. To highlight philosophy’s role in AI developments.
C. To compare different philosophical schools.
D. To warn readers against over-reliance on AI.
A 33. C 34. B 35. B

For such systems, limited harm to a small group is permitted when the choice safeguards more people and delivers greater benefits to society overall.(现代人工智能设计受两种主导的伦理框架所支配。
根据第一段“A decade ago, humanities students were urged to “learn to code” to secure employment. Today, the trend has reversed: programmers now fear being replaced by AI, while philosophy graduates have a lower unemployment rate of 5.1%, compared with 7% for computer science majors. Many philosophy students receive job offers before graduation, and numerous academic philosophers are leaving traditional university departments to join the tech industry.(十年前,人文专业学生被鼓励“学习编程”以获得就业机会。
When you’re exhausted, unmotivated, and nothing feels appealing, procrastination (拖延症) takes over. Hours slip away, guilt piles up, grades drop — and you feel like an idiot. But here’s the truth: it’s not about weak willpower. It’s about not knowing the right tricks to kick your brain into gear. Here are five little-known moves to get you studying — even on your worst days.
____36____. Put your phone down. Sit still. Do nothing. Let the discomfort sink in, and use that silence to ask yourself: why are you studying? For your dream university? A career goal? Or just to stop feeling useless and make yourself — and your family — proud? Stop running from discomfort. Know your real why.
Don’t think, just act. ____37____. The more you imagine how awful it’ll be, the less you do. Research shows that cutting planning time boosts productivity by 60%. So grab your book and write one sentence, read one paragraph. Action kills fear.
Begin with easy tasks. Your brain is lazy but loves small wins. ____38____. Tick off a few simple items, and you’ll gain the motivation to tackle harder stuff.
Change your study spot. New environments boost focus because your brain reacts to fresh triggers. Try the kitchen while brewing coffee, the garage for quiet, or even the bathroom — yes, bring your notes there. ____39____.
Reward yourself strategically. When you complete a worthwhile study goal, treat yourself: a snack, gaming time, or an episode of your favourite show. ____40____. Rewards need to be earned. This “effort first, reward later” cycle eases the burden of studying and sustains your motivation.
Stop waiting for the “right mood” to strike. Motivation seldom arrives on its own. Turn these tips into daily habits, and get down to studying without further delay.
A. Embrace boredom and reflect
B. But avoid frequent tiny rewards every ten minutes
C. The real struggle lies in overthinking, not the task
D. You should study only when you are in a good mood
E. That strange setting keeps your mind alert, unlike your dull desk
F. It is necessary to finish all difficult tasks first to build confidence
G. Start with light work like watching lectures or finishing basic exercises

I’m Li Hua, in charge of planning our school’s English Reading Corner. We’ve run into some problems and badly need your help.
First, most students prefer light fiction, so we struggle to pick suitable English books that are both interesting and helpful for language learning. Besides, few classmates join in the weekly reading sharing — they fear making mistakes when speaking English.
Could you recommend some proper English books for high school students? Also, would you please come to our first activity to give a short talk and encourage students to speak English? We’d truly appreciate your guidance.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

The Weight of Victory
The annual Maplewood Charity Walk was just two weeks away, and this year’s theme was “Stronger Together”. Evan, a two-time defending champion, had every intention of winning the trophy again. However, Principal Miller’s new rule — that all students must walk in pairs — threatened his plan. Evan complained, convinced that being tied to a younger partner would ruin his record.
When the randomly drawn partner list was posted, Evan found himself paired with Leo, a seventh grader. At lunch break, he looked for Leo near the water fountain, only to realize the smaller boy was in a wheelchair. Stunned, Evan wondered how he could keep his champion pace while pushing a chair. To his surprise, during their first practice lap (跑道的一圈), Leo moved forward with surprising upper-body strength, forcing Evan to run just to keep up. They quickly found a rhythm: Leo would signal when his arms were tired, and Evan would take the handles; Evan would call for a break when his legs burned.
On the day of the event, the cool autumn air buzzed with excitement. Principal Miller reminded everyone that the winners would be decided by the number of laps completed as a team, not speed alone within three hours. It meant only laps finished with both partners participating would count toward their final score. As the starting whistle blew, Evan and Leo settled into a steady pace. Two hours passed, and most teams had given up. Just as victory seemed close, disaster struck. Suddenly, Evan tripped on a rough part of the track. He fell hard and felt a sharp pain in his knee as he tried to stand. Pain shot through his leg as he held the wound, looking up at Leo.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

Principal Miller held up the lap cards and announced the result:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Staring at his bleeding knee, Evan felt all hope of winning slip away. Sharp, burning pain spread across his wounded knee, making every slight movement unbearable. Noticing Evan’s frustration, Leo looked up softly and whispered, “We’ve come so far. We finish this together.” Encouraged by Leo’s calm voice, Evan regained his resolve. Gritting his teeth against the stinging pain, he hopped unsteadily to grip the wheelchair handles. They struggled forward in perfect teamwork, Evan hopping and guiding, Leo straining his tired arms to push the wheels, lap by painful lap. The designated time drew to a close, and the competition came to a halt.
Principal Miller held up the lap cards and announced the result. A hush fell over the crowd. Evan barely dared to look, convinced their injury had cost them the championship. Surprisingly, their total laps ranked first, drawing loud cheers instantly. The principal placed the trophy gently between the two exhausted boys. Evan smiled warmly, squeezing Leo’s shoulder tightly. At that moment, he truly realized victory was never a personal glory. It was the shared trust, perseverance and partnership that made their hard-won triumph the most meaningful one he had ever achieved.

Previously we looked at scientific and technological development from the sixteenth s to eight teen centuries. But today we're going to exam in scientific and technical development in the modern day by looking at robotics. When you say robots, most people think of things from science fiction, but robots have actually been with us for some time long before twenty twenty four. Some people think that the first robots were used forty years ago, but that's not true. They were actually used twenty years before that as the development of robotics progresses, we have to think about the impact of the technology on the human race. I'm excited about robots, but I hope that business people and politicians can come together to develop robots for purposes other than profit. If we create robots that can repair cars, fix airplanes and right novels, we run the risk of taking away people's jobs and the purpose of human existence. But that doesn't mean that robots don't have a place in human society. Robots can do things that humans cannot, such as expLoring other planets. That's what we need to develop robots for.
