Section B(1a-2b)
1、 Teaching Objectives
In this class, students will:
1.make inferences about personal information according to the photos.
2.analyze the text features of students' posts.
3.talk about personal information with the simple present tense (be).
4.explore how to make new friends.
2、 Teaching Advice
Lead-in
Free Talk
Have students discuss the following questions.
◆We all have friends.Think about all the friends you have. Why did you become good friends?
◆When meeting someone new, what do we need to know about them to build a friendship?
Teaching Tip:The teacher can give students some hints for these two questions.1.have common hobbies, live near each other,be nice to each other,be in the same class,… 2.name,hobby,favourite sport,…
Pre-reading
1a
1.Let students look at the two students' photo boards.Ask them what places or things the two photo boards show.
What places or things do you see in these photos?
Teaching Tip:The teacher can use videos to help students know more about the Merlion in Singapore and the Big Ben in the UK.(视频见优翼配套教学课件)
2.Ask students to label the photos with the words in the box,and then invite two students to share their answers.
3.Ask students to discuss what they can learn about the two students.
What can you learn about these two students based on their photos?Discuss in pairs.
Suggested answer:Student A may have a pet parrot/be good at playing tennis,…Student B may play the guitar/like Beijing roast duck very much,…
4. Invite different students to present their ideas.
Think and Say
Have students scan the posts and think about the questions.
◆What's the genre of these two passages?
◆Where can we see these two posts?
◆What do “All” “My page” and “2 hours ago” mean?
◆What's the purpose of these two posts?
Think and Share
Suggested answers:
They're students' posts.
We can see them on a website page.
“All” means “access to all the content查看全部内容”,“My page” means “a part of the website is made just for you我的主页” and “2 hours ago” means “the post was updated 2 hours ago”.
The purpose of these two posts is to make new friends.
While-reading
1b
1.Ask students to read the two posts and match the post writers with their photo boards.
2.Pick one student to present the answers.
1c
1.Let students read again and complete the table with the information from the posts.
2.Ask students to have a peer check.
3.Ask students to introduce Pauline and Peter in their own words with the help of the table. For example,Pauline is 14 years old.She comes from Singapore. She has a big family…Peter is 14 years old. He's from London in the UK…
Further Thinking
Ask students the following questions to make them think more about the details of the posts.
◆Why does Pauline's parrot speak Chinese?
Suggested answer:Pauline teaches her Chinese because Singapore has lots of Chinese people and Pauline is probably Chinese.
◆Who do you want to be friends with,Pauline or Peter? Why?
1d
1.Draw a Venn Diagram on the blackboard and explain its usage.
Venn Diagram is used to present the similarities and differences between two people or two things.
2.Let students compare either Pauline or Peter with themselves.
3.Invite some students to share their answers.
Post-reading
Writing

Teaching Tip:The teacher can show students a sample.(范文见优翼配套教学课件)
2b
1.Let students read the reply and analyze its structure:
introduce yourself—show your writing purpose—talk about what you like—request others to write to you
2.The teacher can review some expressions which can be used in selfintroduction with the students.
3.Ask students to complete the reply and invite some students to read their writings. The teacher gives the students feedback.
4.Guide students to exchange their writings with their partners to have a peer check. Here are the criteria:
◆Correct use of greetings
◆Clear selfintroduction
◆Correct use of “be”
◆Correct spelling
◆Correct punctuation
Summary
Ask students to summarize what they have learned in this lesson.
Homework
Finish the related exercises in the books produced by Youyi.
Blackboard Design
Write the structure of the reply in 2b on the blackboard.
Teaching Reflection
This lesson went well overall.Students enjoyed looking at the photo boards and guessing personal details. They were especially interested in the Singapore and UK landmarks. The Venn diagram activity really helped students compare themselves with Pauline and Peter. They had fun finding similarities and differences. The reply writing part was a bit challenging because some students didn't know how to connect their sentences smoothly.Maybe I should show them more examples of how to link ideas.
