Putting a note in a child’s lunch box secretly is nothing new, but one dad has taken the practice to a new level. In 2017, Chris Yandle just moved back to Mandeville, Louisiana, after losing his job. His family had moved many times throughout his career, and his kids were anxious about attending yet another school.
His daughter Addison was due to start fourth grade at her fourth school in five years, and she was nervous. Chris noticed it. He decided to write her a short note of encouragement to let her know that he was always there for her. “Be nice to others,” he wrote. “Not everyone will look like you. Learn to find the unique and special things in other people.” The next day, the dad penned another note—and then another. Eventually, it became a daily part of their routine, and he realized the short messages were helping him as much as they were helping his daughter.
The notes worked! Addison settled into her new school. Now, she’s excelling in middle school, and her mom, Ashleigh Yandle, says she’s never seen Addison more confident and independent. Chris uses his own life experiences to craft the notes. He hopes to guide his daughter in her decision-making process and help her benefit from his own mistakes and achievements.
Chris shares his encouraging notes on the Internet, where they’ve become popular with other parents. He recently collected hundreds of his wise thoughts in a book. “Each page is not only the message I wrote her, but there’s a story behind each one,” he said. The biggest takeaway Chris can share with other parents is this: Spend time with your kids! It doesn’t matter what you do; just knowing you’re available will help them open up and explore the world around them. Great advice from a great dad!

For many British parents, what they care about most is that their children can receive a good education. The education system of Britain is world-famous.With a long history of academic excellence and a reputation for producing some of the finest minds,it attracts thousands of students from overseas to be educated in many different places, including state schools and private schools.
In Britain, state schools are maintained and funded by the government or local education authorities while private schools, also called public schools, are mainly operated by a board of trustees.
There are two main differences between private schools and state schools. The most important one is that parents must pay fees to send their children to a private school, while state schools are free of charge. This financial burden can be a major consideration for parents when choosing between the two types of schools. However, most parents believe that the investment in a private education is worth it for the quality of education and opportunities it provides. Many public schools, such as Harrow and Eton, have a long history of providing a world-class education and have produced many famous graduates. They offer a wide range of after-school activities and facilities that are often not available in state schools.
The other difference is that private schools in this country don’t have to follow the national courses governed by the state or even take the state examinations. Thus, they enjoy a much greater degree of freedom in designing their courses. This allows private schools to offer more specialized and individualized education, adapting their teaching to the requirements and capabilities of every student.
Despite the differences between private schools and state schools, both educational establishments hold great significance in offering excellent education and shaping the future of the country’s youth.
