While not all of these beaches are great for swimming, they are all unique and amazing in their own ways. Bowling Ball Beach, California At first sight, the “bowling balls” on this Californian beach might seem strange. These perfectly round rocks sit on the sand as if someone had left them there after a game. They are best seen at low tide (潮水), when the rocks appear even more impressive. The softer rock around them was worn away by the waves, leaving behind these round stones. It’s an unbelievable sight that you won’t want to miss. Harbour Island, The Bahamas If you’ve ever wondered whether you could visit a pink beach, Harbour Island is the place to go. The sand here gets its unique pink color from tiny pieces of coral (珊瑚) mixing with the white sand. This beach stretches along the east coast of the island. The blue waters of The Bahamas make the beach even more beautiful. You can leave the rose-colored glasses at home for this one. Glass Beach, California Sitting in Fort Bragg, California, the beach was used as a dumping ground for many years until the 1960s. Over time, the ocean cut and polished (打磨) the broken glass, turning it into beautiful, colorful gems that now cover the beach. Today, Glass Beach looks like a jewelry store, and while collecting the glass is now illegal, it remains an amazing sight. Prince William Sound, Alaska If you’re looking for a truly unique beach experience, head to Prince William Sound in Alaska. The area features glaciers (冰川) flowing into the sea, crystal-clear waters, and black sand beaches framed by towering mountains. The place is also home to a variety of wildlife, including seals, whales, and eagles. It’s a must for nature lovers. 21.Why does the author suggest visiting Bowling Ball Beach? A.For its high tides. B.For its swimming pool. C.For its impressive game. D.For its round rocks. 22.What is special about Harbour Island? A.It is home to white sand. B.It has a pink beach. C.It houses bright glass. D.It looks amazing at sunset. 23.Where will you go if you are interested in wildlife? A.Glass Beach. B.Harbour Island. C.Bowling Ball Beach. D.Prince William Sound. B People often have the impression that Chinese characters are extremely difficult to learn. In fact, if you were to try to learn how to write Chinese characters, you would find that they are not nearly as difficult as you may have imagined. And they certainly qualify as forming one of the most attractive, beautiful, logical, and scientifically constructed writing systems in the world. Each stroke (笔画) has its own special significance. If you are familiar with the rules of Chinese characters, you will find it very easy to remember even the most complicated looking character, and never miss a stroke. The earliest known examples of Chinese written characters in their developed form are carved into tortoise shells and ox bones. Most of these characters are pictographs. Archaeologists of various countries have learned that most early writing systems went through a pictographic stage, as did the Egyptian hieroglyphics. Most writing systems, however, eventually developed a phonetic (语音的) alphabet to represent the sounds of spoken language rather than visual images observed in the physical world. One notable feature of Chinese characters is the “radical”. “Radical” in English means “root”. For example, the characters yu “language”, shuo “talk”, and lun “discuss” all share the yan radical, which means “language,” and gives the reader a clue to the meaning of the character as a whole. The characters xiu “rotten”, shan “cedar”, tao “peach” and lin “forest” , all contain the mu “wood” or “tree” radical, indicating one of their shared key characteristics. If you know the radical of a character, you can usually get a general idea of the meaning of the character. Although there is a theoretical total of almost 50,000 written Chinese characters, only about 5,000 of these are frequently used; and the total number of radicals is only 214. So learning to read and write Chinese is not nearly so difficult a task as it may at first seem. 24.According to the author, Chinese characters are ________. A.extremely difficult to learn B.as difficult as you may have imagined C.difficult to remember D.scientifically constructed 25.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A.All the Chinese characters are pictographs B.Some strokes are more important than others. C.There are rules in forming the Chinese characters. D.Some writing systems eventually developed a phonetic alphabet. 26.Which radical do the characters chi “eat”, he “drink”, wen “kiss”, and wei “feed” contain? A.The kou “mouth” radical. B.The mu “wood” or “tree” radical. C.The zu “foot” radical. D.The yan “language” radical 27.The passage is mainly about ________. A.the Chinese writing system B.the strokes of the Chinese characters C.pictographs D.the radical of the Chinese characters C Florence, a historic city in Italy known for its Renaissance art and architecture, is taking action to cut overtourism. The city has introduced new measures, including banning (禁用) key boxes used by short-term rental landlords and restricting the use of loudspeakers by tour guides. These steps come after complaints (投诉) from the locals, who are struggling with the growing number of tourists. Florence, located in Tuscany, has long been a popular destination for travelers. However, in recent years, the number of visitors has sharply increased, putting pressure on the city’s housing market and its residents. Many people have been forced out due to rising living costs. To address these issues, the city’s government has approved (批准) a 10-point plan to reduce the impact of tourism. One of the key actions is to ban key boxes — combination-protected lockboxes used by landlords for easy check-ins. These were used in the city’s UNESCO-listed historic center, home to famous works by artists such as Botticelli, Michelangelo and Giotto. The plan also targets the use of “atypical vehicles”, like golf carts, which tour guides use to show visitors around the city in areas where cars are not allowed. The use of loudspeakers by tour guides will also be banned in these areas. These changes are part of an effort to make Florence a living and unique city for both the locals and tourists. The city council noted that there has been a sharp rise in the number of tourists, with more than 7.8 million visitors in just the first nine months of 2024. Florence is the latest of several destinations to introduce measures to cut mass tourism. Last week, the archaeological site of Pompeii said it would be capping daily visitors at 20,000 and requiring personalized tickets. However, Italy’s Tourism Minister Daniela Santanche suggested that overtourism in Italy is caused by poor management, and instead of cutting mass tourism, the country should focus on improving the experience for visitors. 28.What can we learn about Florence according to the text? A.It stops the use of loudspeakers. B.It plans to lift the ban in two weeks. C.It has long been a draw for visitors. D.It turns a blind eye to the complaints. 29.Why does Florence introduce the new measures? A.To build a livable city. B.To cut the cost of the trade. C.To attract more tourists. D.To better control air traffic. 30.What does the underlined word “capping” in paragraph 6mean? A.Increasing. B.Inspiring. C.Watching. D.Limiting. 31.What did Santanche want to say about overtourism in Italy? A.It lies in the rapid growth of a city. B.It is a product of mismanagement. C.It can be solved by the new efforts. D.It is caused by ill-mannered visitors. D One of the most fun parts of being a parent is watching children discover the world around them like a scientist. Yet over time parents can find their child might be less interested in exploration. This loss of interest may partly come from small language cues (提示) they hear, which come from parents, media or in school that treats science as an identity rather than a process. All kids can do science, but over time, they begin to think of being a scientist as something only reserved for certain kinds of kids. The good news is that the small language cues can also be employed to promote engagement in science. Cuing science as actions that we do, for example, seems to protect children’s interest and motivation to join in science over time. Students whose teachers use more action-focused language stayed longer in a novel science game compared to students whose teachers used more identity-focused language. However, around adolescence (青春期), teens are actively trying on and eventually forming different identities for themselves. So while identity-focused language about science might be demotivating for young children, identity-focused language may help teens stay interested in science. For example, cuing a future identity (e.g., scientist, doctor) that is based on science motivated middle schoolers to do more homework, and was associated with higher grades. That might be because if teens think of themselves as scientists, then they are willing to do what it takes to be whom they want to become. Ultimately parents want their children to enjoy learning, exploring and figuring things out for themselves. Those activities also just happen to be critical pieces of the scientific process. Emphasizing these actions when children are younger might help them persist in hard tasks or lessons. But as children get older, gain experience in these activities and start forming ideas of whom they want to become, emphasizing future identities that are science-dependent might also be helpful in maintaining an interest in science. How these two versions of language cues might work together (or not) is yet to be tested, but perhaps this is some science to be done by parents’ future scientists. 32.What is children’s later view of a scientist? A.An identity limited to specific groups. B.A career challenging to pursue. C.A chance open to every individual. D.A result of parents’ education. 33.Which of the following would most probably encourage young children to join in science? A.Science is fun. B.Think out of the box. C.Let’s do science. D.Be a future scientist. 34.What effect does identity-focused language have on teenagers? A.It serves as a drive to learn. B.It quickens learning pace. C.It boosts confidence in learning. D.It lowers expectations of success. 35.What should parents do in order to promote their kids’ scientific engagement? A.Provide consistent inspiration to them. B.Develop a sense of curiosity in them. C.Adapt language cues to age and stage. D.Avoid identity-focused language cues. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Of course, not all book clubs are the same, and there are a lot of different ways to organise. Our advice is that it’s really important to make sure that scheduling is easy. 37 . Then stick to the monthly schedule so that it’s super predictable when book clubs are happening. I just went along and filmed at the local zoo. When I said that I’d like to go and film in Africa, my leader Mike just laughed at me. W: And did you go to Africa? M: No, but I eventually got him to allow me to go to Borneo then. So a camera man and I went off for four months filming wherever we saw something interesting. We bought a boat, rowed it up river for 10 days and ended up in a traditional longhouse. W: Wow. So Martin, where do people like you who travel abroad for work go on holiday? M: Well, I... 14.What is the man doing? A.Reading news. B.Watching a movie C.Learning about a program 15.What does the man think of his spoken Spanish? A.Unsatisfactory. B.Awful. M: No, I was watching some videos, but now I’m reading about the Spanish language and culture programme. W: Will you go to Spain to learn Spanish? M: Yes. Though I have learned the language for two years, I cannot speak it fluently. I think this is a good opportunity for me to improve my Spanish skills. W: Where will the programme take place? M: In Valencia? And that’s another reason why I’m interested in the programme. Valencia is one of Spain’s most historic towns, with a beautiful coast line, a number of festivals and the birthplace of some of Spain’s most cherished foods. W: Where will you stay after you get there? M: I can’t afford to live in a hotel and I don’t want to live in a school. Luckily, the program allows participants to live with a local host family. I think that’s the best option for me. W: Good, when are the participants allowed to attend the program? M: It is available all year round for international high school or college students. 听第10段材料,回答第18至20题。 18.What does the speaker mainly talk about? A.A Volunteer organization. 【答案】21.D 22.B 23.D 【导语】本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了四个独特而令人惊叹的海滩,每个海滩都有其独特的自然景观和特色。 【详解】21.细节理解题。根据Bowling Ball Beach, California部分中“These perfectly round rocks sit on the sand as if someone had left them there after a game. They are best seen at low tide (潮水), when the rocks appear even more impressive. The softer rock around them was worn away by the waves, leaving behind these round stones. It’s an unbelievable sight that you won’t want to miss!(这些形状完美的圆形岩石静静地躺在沙滩上,仿佛是有人在一场游戏结束后将它们留在那里的。在低潮时(也就是潮水退去的时候)观赏这些岩石最为壮观,那时它们显得更加令人惊叹。它们周围较软的岩石被海浪侵蚀掉了,留下了这些圆形的石头。这是一幅令人难以置信的景象,您一定不想错过)”可知,作者建议去Bowling Ball Beach是因为那里有圆形的石头,看起来就像保龄球一样,非常独特和令人印象深刻。故选D。 22.细节理解题。根据Harbour Island, The Bahamas部分中“If you’ve ever wondered whether you could visit a pink beach, Harbour Island is the place to go. The sand here gets its unique pink color from tiny pieces of coral (珊瑚) mixing with the white sand. (如果你想知道是否可以参观一个粉色海滩,哈伯岛就是你要去的地方。这里的沙子因其独特的粉红色而闻名,这是由微小的珊瑚碎片与白沙混合而成的。)”可知,Harbour Island的特别之处在于它有一个粉色的海滩,这是由珊瑚碎片和白沙混合而成的。故选B。 23.细节理解题。根据Prince William Sound, Alaska部分中“The place is also home to a variety of wildlife, including seals, whales, and eagles. It’s a must for nature lovers. A.the Chinese writing system B.the strokes of the Chinese characters C.pictographs D.the radical of the Chinese characters 【答案】24.D 25.C 26.A 27.A 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了汉字的书写系统以及汉字的构成规则。 【详解】24.细节理解题。根据第一段关键句“And they certainly qualify as forming one of the most attractive, beautiful, logical, and scientifically constructed writing systems in the world.( 它们当然有资格成为世界上最具吸引力、最优美、最合乎逻辑、最科学构造的书写体系之一)”可知,在作者看来,汉字是世界上最具吸引力、最优美、最合乎逻辑、最科学构造的书写体系之一。由此可知,根据作者的说法,汉字是科学构造的。故选D项。 25.细节理解题。根据第一段关键句“If you are familiar with the rules of Chinese characters, you will find it very easy to remember even the most complicated looking character, and never miss a stroke.(如果你熟悉汉字的规则,你会发现即使是看起来最复杂的汉字也很容易记住,而且不会漏掉一个笔画)”和第三段关键句“One notable feature of Chinese characters is the “radical”.(汉字的一个显著特点是“部首”)”可知,在作者看来,汉字是有规则的,例如通过汉字中的“部首”,你可以了解到这个字的大概意思。由此可知,汉字的构成有一定的规则。故选C项。 26.推理判断题。题目询问我们题干中出现的汉字包含哪个部首,题干中“chi “eat”, he “drink”, wen “kiss”, and wei “feed””分别代表汉字“吃、喝、吻和喂”。由此可知,这些汉字包含的部首是“口”,“The kou “mouth” radical”表示“部首‘口’”。故选A项。 27.主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段关键句“And they certainly qualify as forming one of the most attractive, beautiful, logical, and scientifically constructed writing systems in the world.( 它们当然有资格成为世界上最具吸引力、最优美、最合乎逻辑、最科学构造的书写体系之一)”可知,本文主要介绍了汉字的书写系统以及汉字的构成规则,“the Chinese writing system”意为“汉字书写系统”,能够概括文章主要内容。故选A项。 C Florence, a historic city in Italy known for its Renaissance art and architecture, is taking action to cut overtourism. 【答案】28.C 29.A 30.D 31.B 【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道。鉴于当地居民投诉游客数量激增,意大利历史文化名城佛罗伦萨正采取一系列措施解决过度旅游问题。 【详解】28.细节理解题。根据第二段“Florence, located in Tuscany, has long been a popular destination for travelers.(位于托斯卡纳的佛罗伦萨长期以来一直是游客们喜爱的目的地)” 可知,佛罗伦萨一直是吸引游客的地方。故选C。 29.细节理解题。根据第五段“These changes are part of an effort to make Florence a living and unique city for both the locals and tourists.(这些改变是让佛罗伦萨成为一个对当地人和游客来说都适宜居住且独特的城市的努力的一部分)” 可知,佛罗伦萨出台新措施是为了建设一个宜居城市。故选A。 30.词义猜测题。根据第六段“Last week, the archaeological site of Pompeii said it would be capping daily visitors at 20,000 and requiring personalized tickets.(上周,庞贝古城考古遗址表示将把每日游客人数…… 在 20,000 人,并要求购买个性化门票)”以及结合前文提到的佛罗伦萨采取措施减少旅游影响,可推测出这里是限制游客数量,由此可知,capping意为“限制”。故选D。 31.细节理解题。根据最后一段“However, Italy’s Tourism Minister Daniela Santanche suggested that overtourism in Italy is caused by poor management.(然而,意大利旅游部长丹妮拉・桑坦切表示,意大利的过度旅游是管理不善造成的)” 可知,桑坦切认为意大利的过度旅游是管理不善的结果。故选B。 D One of the most fun parts of being a parent is watching children discover the world around them like a scientist. 【答案】32.A 33.C 34.A 35.C 【导语】文章探讨语言暗示对孩子科学兴趣的影响。 【详解】32.细节理解题。根据第二段“All kids can do science, but over time, they begin to think of being a scientist as something only reserved for certain kinds of kids.(所有孩子都能接触科学,但久而久之,他们会认为科学家只适合特定人群)”可知,孩子长大后认为科学家是特定人群专属的身份。 33.细节理解题。根据第三段“Cuing science as actions that we do, for example, seems to protect children’s interest and motivation to join in science over time.(将科学视作亲身实践活动,长期来看有助于维系孩子探索科学的兴趣与积极性)”可知,“我们一起来做科学探索”这种表达最能激发低龄儿童参与科学探索。 34.细节理解题。根据第四段“So while identity-focused language about science might be demotivating for young children, identity-focused language may help teens stay interested in science. She had a quarrel (争吵) with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping (哭泣) sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding (责备) from her mother. Having wandered (闲逛) aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand (摊位) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave. The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh, yes… but I don’t have money on me” she replied. “That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,”said the man, “come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently. “What is it?” asked the man kindly. “Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears, “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless (无情的) compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?” Jenny sat there, speechless and numb (呆滞的)with shock; she remembered mother’s familiar face and weathered (饱经风霜的) hands. “Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted (感激的;蒙恩的), but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.” On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home. 注意:1.写作词数应为100左右;2.请在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph1: Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. She could hear her own heart beating loudly in her ears. Her hand trembled slightly as she reached for the doorknob. As she entered, she saw her mother sitting in the dimly lit living room. Jenny walked slowly towards her, her steps heavy with guilt. “Mom,” she said softly, “I’m back. I’m so sorry for what I did. I was so blind and ungrateful. You’ve given me so much love and care all these years, and I repaid you with rudeness.” A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. Jenny looked into her mother’s eyes, which were filled with a mixture of relief and love. Her mother cupped her face in her hands and said, “My dear, I was so worried about you. I’m just glad you’re safe.” They hugged each other tightly. Jenny realized that this was the place where she truly belonged, and that her mother’s love was an unbreakable bond. From then on, she made it a point to be more patient and understanding with her mother, knowing that every moment spent with her was a precious gift. Because in the end, it was the love of family that could heal all wounds and make one whole again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:tremble/shiver/shake ②意识到:realize/recognize ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①不感激的:ungrateful/unthankful ②担心的:worried/concerned       【点睛】【高分句型1】Her hand trembled slightly as she reached for the doorknob.
