I used to be proud of my carefree, adventurous attitude. But when I was about 27, something changed. I started to feel anxious about everyday things. A mental health advisor told me that people who have panic attacks can make it worse by avoiding the things they worry about. Since then, I have promised to face the things that scare me.
This is why I took up track cycling. It may not sound like an obvious strategy for calming the mind and reducing anxiety, but in the almost three years I have been doing it and I have noticed a difference in my mood after each session.
Cycling at speed, so close to one another, I have to stay in the moment and concentrate. It helps clear my head and lets me focus on something else. Nestled away from busy main roads, the velodrome (赛车场) is an unexpectedly peaceful haven (港湾). It is outdoors, so over the year you see the seasons change as you ride. There are wonderful sunsets on summer evenings and I love the cool air in the autumn as the leaves start to fall.
My anxiety hasn’t completely gone away but remembering what I am capable of on the bike, and the way it feels to race around the track, gives me the confidence boost that I need. It is truly like a form of therapy (疗法) and I feel the old, adventurous me again.

One cold autumn afternoon, I arrived at the velodrome as usual for my cycling training. The cool wind brushed my face and fallen leaves dotted the quiet track, creating a peaceful and soothing atmosphere. As I accelerated and raced around the track, all my trivial worries faded away. I focused entirely on my breathing and rhythm, feeling the freedom and peace that cycling brought me. Looking at the gorgeous autumn sunset, I was grateful that I had chosen to face my fear instead of giving up. It was this persistent hobby that pulled me out of endless anxiety.
Gradually, I began to share my cycling experiences with others suffering from anxiety. I told them that escaping never solves problems, and bravery lies in facing inner unease positively. I encouraged them to find their own healing hobbies to calm their minds. Many people were inspired by my story and tried outdoor sports to relieve pressure. Watching more people walk out of mental disturbance, I gained greater satisfaction. I finally understood that the best therapy was courage and persistence, and passing on warmth made life more meaningful.
