An Experience of Volunteering
Last term, I volunteered to help clean up the local park. I worked with a group of other students. We picked up litter, swept the paths, and watered the flowers. It was hard work, but it was also very rewarding. During the process, we also interacted with some passers-by and spread the idea of environmental protection. After the activity, I felt a great sense of satisfaction. I realized that even a small act of kindness can make a big difference. I advocate that everyone take part in volunteer activities. Let’s make our community a better place to live in.
7、 读后续写(该部分共25分)
After being asked, Gina explained to David why she had acted this way. With tears in her eyes, she told him about the host selection, the chief judge’s cold comment on her weight, and her desperate decision to lose weight by light fasting. She admitted she was eager to win the opportunity and ignored the risks of the unhealthy method. Mr. David listened quietly, then patted her shoulder gently, comforting her that her excellent hosting skills were far more important than her figure.
Hearing Mr. David’s words, Gina decided to accept her own figure (身材). She gave up the “5+2 light fasting” and started to eat healthily and do moderate exercise. She focused more on practicing hosting, and her skills became even better. Gradually, she realized that true value lies in inner strength, not appearance. Later, she hosted more school activities confidently, and everyone praised her more for her ability and confidence.

【57题详解】

W: Oh, we have a wide range of teas on this shelf, from green tea to black tea. Do you have any preferences?
M: Actually, it is my father-in-law who is fond of drinking tea. But he’s had an upset stomach recently.

M: Sophie, do you know that Mr. Jones, our new P.E. teacher from New Zealand, has formed a baseball team? (8)
W: Yes, I’ve signed up for it.
M: That’s brave of you. It’s such a different sport from ping-pong. You have to run a lot on the field, and my strength is nowhere near enough to last a full game. (8)
W: Yes. I just want to try something new. Have you joined any club, Terry? (8)
M: No, I’m putting all my effort into preparing for my TOEFL test. I’m considering furthering my studies in America. (9)

M: Oh, they are classics. They go for $5 each. (11)
W: I’ll take three. (11) It’s pretty cool to give these items a second life.

W: Of course. (12)
· go for 卖得(某价格)
Text 9(第13题为推断题)
W: Thanks for joining us tonight, Mr. Moore. (14) Speaking of robot development, people often think of humanoid machines. So what’s the reality from an engineer’s perspective? (14)
M: It’s far more complex. A significant part of my work involves perfecting the basics — sensor integration, motion stability, and real-time decision-making. Making a robot simply walk across uneven ground without falling is a tough challenge.
W: What’s the hardest part you’re facing right now? (15)
M: Without a doubt, I can program a robot to operate in a controlled environment, (14) but the difficulty is that the real world is full of uncertainties. (15) Besides, teaching a machine to recognize an unfamiliar object and decide how to interact with it requires a vast body of data and advanced algorithms.
W: Where do you see this field heading in the next five years? (16)
M: I believe we’ll see robots moving out of factories and into everyday places, like homes and hospitals. (16) The key is making them safer and more user-friendly.

Text 10
Australia passed a new law called the Online Safety Amendment Bill 2024 on 28th November 2024. (17) This law introduces a minimum age of 16 for accounts on certain social media platforms. It came into effect on 10th December 2025. (17) The government says the ban is needed to protect the mental health and well-being of Australian children and teenagers. They believe social media gives youngsters license to act improperly, such as engaging in cyberbullying. The platforms the ban applies to include X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and Threads. (18) Tech companies that own these platforms could face penalties of up to $50 million if they fail to stop those under 16 from having accounts. (19) The ban leaves out apps like Messenger Kids, WhatsApp, Kids Helpline, Google Classroom and YouTube Kids. However, UNICEF Australia thinks that the policy won’t fix the problems young people encounter online. It strongly supports the use of social media, as the positives far outweigh the risks under current strict regulations. (20)

One quiet afternoon in France in her studio, wood crafting(木工技艺)artist Hua Yong found
herself watching water boil.Without thinking, she reached for her phone and refreshed the screen. At
that very moment, she realized how much modern life is consumed by speed."We are completely
swept up by the fast pace of life,"she said."It's becoming harder to find time to relax among the
everyday chaos of life."
Hua Yong, the 2024 receiver of the Hand of Wisdom prize,a Sino-French (crafts
exchange program, spent two months in Paris last year,a rare stretch of uninterrupted time that allowed
her to reflect on the act of creation. She began experimenting with simple geometric (forms,

repeating them to create visual effects that seemed to go beyond time and space."I thought about how
to create something new from nothing, and used the highest standards of traditional Chinese
craftsmanship to bring these ideas to life,"she said.
"Wood crafting requires the investment of time,"she noted. Her exhibition Changing the World in
Silence at Yishu 8,an art platform in Beijing, marked the highlight of a year's reflection.Running
through mid-June,the show featured 25 pieces,11 of which were created after her Paris residency.
Among the works was a vortex-like(漩涡状的)table,which drew the viewer's mind into a different
dimension."We hope all the crafts here quietly accompany the viewers, bringing a brief mental escape
and a moment of relaxation,"described Hua.
"The changes in her work's form between movement and stillness are projections of conceptual
unrest,"said Su Dan,the artistic director of Hand of Wisdom, observing Hua's shift since her retum.

in such a state of reflection become models of design philosophy:They are short-lived,yet
everlasting.”

Maths phobia (is older than you might think.A hundred years ago,German physicist
Felix Auerbach, feeling sad about the phenomenon and hoping to find ways to solve it,wrote a book
called The Fear of Mathematics and How to Overcome It.Maths,he said, has so much to contribute to
高三英语试卷第5页共12页
society that solving this fear is a challenge of the highest importance.
Why do we fear mathematics? At heart, says Auerbach,it comes down to a fundamental
misunderstanding of what maths is.The fear of messing up a calculation may be real, but the fact that
there are many excellent mathematicians who are terrible at calculation proves that numeracy(
)and mathematics aren't the same thing. What, then,is mathematics?
Auerbach says it is three things:a science,a language and an art.For me,part of the issue is that
we are stuck in the first box.A focus completely on technical skills misses the joy and excitement that
can come from finding pattems and understanding them, from seeing the true beauty of mathematics
That beauty lies in wonderfully elegant thinking that allows us to understand the infinite(),
explore the amazing symmetries()of art and nature, and delight in the perfection of an abstract
world of ideas. As a language, what sets maths apart is the universality of its truths-you can become
fluent wherever you are from.If we can be shown the beauty of mathematics,we will forget to be
afraid of the technical details behind it.
Today's self-help experts like to point out that, physiologically,we experience anxiety the same
way we experience excitement. So,if your heart is racing and your palms()are sweating before a
big event, you simply have to tell yourself that you are excited. In the same way, fear can be negative
(dread)or positive (awe). Our goal should be to try to move people from a view of mathematics as a
collection of calculations whose great difficulty brings dread to an appreciation of a beautiful language
whose complexity inspires awe.
A hundred years on,Auerbach's writing is as relevant as ever.It is a timely reminder that"maths
anxiety",as it is now called, remains as much a challenge in 21st century as it was in the 20th.
28.Why did Felix Auerbach write The Fear of Mathematics and How to Overcome It?
A.To explain the beauty of mathematics
B.To show his own excellent mathematical skills
C.To find solutions to maths phobia.
D.To prove that numeracy is different from mathematies.
29.What can be learned from Paragraph 2?
A.Excellent mathematieians don't need to calculate
B.Calculation is not the most important part of mathematics.
C.People with maths phobia are good at mathematics.
D.Numeracy is more difficult to master than mathematics.

30.What makes mathematics different as a language according to the text?
A.The universality of its truths.
B.The difficulty in learning it.
C.Its focus on technical calculations.
D.Its ability to explain natural phenomena.
31.What is our goal when addressing the fear of mathematics?
A.To encourage reading physiology books.
B.To inspire learning a foreign language.
C.To teach correct calculations.
D.To appreciate maths beauty, not just calculations.

A recent study explores the health risks associated with volatile organic compounds(VOCs)(
发性有机化合物)released from plastic water bottles when they are exposed to sunlight..The research
thoroughly investigated the types and toxicity (of VOCs released under solar irradiation,
highlighting the importance of improved storage methods to guarantee the safety of drinking water.
Plastic water bottles are ubiquitous due to their convenience, yet they have potential risks.
Sunlight exposure can lead these containers to degrade and generate VOCs,which are potentially
harmful to human health. The fast-expanding bottled water market underscores the urgency for safer
alternatives. In response to these concerns, there is a pressing need for in-depth research into more
secure materials and production methods for water containers.
The research analyzed the VOCs released from six types of plastic water bottles subjected to
sunlight. Results showed that all tested bottles produced a complex mixture of alkanes, alkenes,
alcohols, aldehydes, and acids, with significant variations in VOC composition and concentration
among the bottles.Notably, highly toxic VOCs were identified, highlighting serious health risks.
Exposure to sunlight for a longer time indicated an increased concentration of VOCs,pointing to a
growing risk.
Dr.Huase Ou,the lead researcher, remarked,"Our findings provide convineing evidence that
plastic bottles, when exposed to sunlight, can release toxic compounds that pose health risks. However,
the scenes where bottled water is exposed to sunlight are not rare.Consumers need to be aware of the
environments where bottled water is likely to be exposed to sunlight for longer periods."
This study carries significant implications for public health and safety regulations.Understanding
the conditions under which these VOCs are released can guide the improvement of processing

practices and material selection for bottled water containers.Furthermore,it underlines the need for
enhanced consumer awareness and stricter industry regulations to reduce exposure to these potentially
harmful compounds
32.What does the underlined word "ubiquitous"in paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A.Inexpensive.
B.Conventional.
C.Widespread.
D.Adjustable.
33.What did the research find?
A.Not all tested plastic bottles produced harmful VOCs.
B.Production methods for bottled water were unsustainable
C.The time of exposure to sunlight wasn't a contributing factor.
D.VOCs released from different materials of water bottles varied.
34.What does Dr.Huase Ou mean?
A.The safety of bottled water is concerning.
B.Consumers lack awareness of food safety.
C.Research findings are far from convincing.
D.Plastic bottles can't avoid exposure to sunlight.
35.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The impact of toxic VOCs.
B.Joint efforts to cut plastic bottles.
C.Tips on improving public health.
D.The value of the study.
