Kitty Lunn was 8 when she decided to be a dancer. By the time she was 15, Kitty was dancing with the New Orleans Civic Ballet. She studied with famous teachers and graced the stage in celebrated ballets such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. When she was older, Kitty moved to New York City, where she worked as an actress and a dancer.
Kitty was getting ready to perform in her first Broadway show when her life changed forever. While hurrying to rehearsal (彩排), Kitty slipped on some ice and fell down a flight of stairs, resulting in a back injury that left her a paraplegic (瘫痪). This means she can move her arms and body but not her legs. It also means that Kitty now uses a wheelchair to get around.
At first, Kitty thought her life as a dancer was over. Then she learned something important. “The dancer was inside me,” she said, “I didn’t know or care that I was using a wheelchair. I just want to keep dancing.” This realization lit a hope within her, and Kitty set her mind to find a way to continue her passion for dance.
In 1994, Kitty Lunn founded Infinity Dance Theater. Its members are dancers with and without disabilities. They used movements from ballet, modern dance, and jazz. Like some of the other dancers, Kitty used a special lightweight wheelchair that allows her to move with grace and smooth on stage.
When the 1996 Olympics were held in Atlanta, Georgia, Kitty was there. She performed a dance called The Dancer Within. This title is a good description of what Kitty believes. The Infinity dancers perform all over the world. They also help dance teachers learn to work with students who have disabilities. There are many other dance companies that include both wheelchair and standing dancers. Each of them would agree with Kitty’s advice when she says, “Listen to the dancer in your heart.” There’s always a way to dance!
4. How did Kitty Lunn approach her career after the accident?
A. By working as an actress. B. By joining a dance company.
C. By serving as a dance teacher. D. By dancing with a wheelchair.
5. What is special about the Infinity Dance Theater?
A. It mixes different styles of dance. B. Its dancers perform in America alone.
C. It centers on teaching traditional ballet. D. It only admits dancers with disabilities.
6. Which of the following best describes Kitty Lunn?
A. Curious and honest. B. Selfless and confident.
C. Determined and creative. D. Thoughtful and energetic.
7. What can we learn from Kitty Lunn’s experience?
A. Everyone is equal in the face of suffering. B. Dancers should focus on performances.
C. Success requires hard work and fortune. D. Dance spirit goes beyond physical limits.
C
The ocean is a huge body of saltwater that covers about 71 percent of Earth’s surface. An estimated 97 percent of the world’s water is found in the ocean. Because of this, the ocean has considerable impact on weather, temperature, and the food supply of humans and other organisms. The ocean remains a mystery. More than 80 percent of the ocean has never been mapped, explored, or even seen by humans. A far greater percentage of the surfaces of the moon and the planet Mars has been mapped and studied than of our own ocean floor.
Although there is much more to learn, oceanographers have already made some amazing discoveries. For example, we know that the ocean contains towering mountain ranges and deep valleys, just like those on land. The peak of the world’s tallest mountain—Mount Qomolangma in the Himalaya, measuring 8848. 86 meters high-would not even break the surface of the water if it was placed in the Pacific Ocean’s Mariana Trench or Philippine Trench, two of the deepest parts of the ocean. On the other hand, the Atlantic Ocean is relatively shallow because large parts of its seafloor are made up of continental shelves—parts of the continents that extend far out into the ocean. The average depth of the entire ocean is 3.720 meters.
It is unknown how many different species call the ocean their home. With many ocean ecosystems suffering from rising sea temperatures, pollution, and other problems, some oceanographers believe the number of species is dropping. Still, there may be many positive surprises awaiting oceanographers in the years ahead. It could be that more than 90 percent of the ocean’s species are still undiscovered, with some scientists estimating that there are anywhere between a few hundred thousand and a few million more to be discovered. Currently, scientists know of around 226,000 ocean species. Since the ocean is so vast, there is plenty for future oceanographers from all corners of the globe to explore and discover.
8. Why does the author mention the moon and Mars?
A. To indicate people’s determination to know space.
B. To show people know quite little about the ocean.
C. To remind us that we need more knowledge about space.
D. To tell space exploration is more crucial than that of oceans.
9. What does the author intend to tell us in paragraph 2?
A. Reasons why ocean floors are rough.
B. Significance of the ocean floor to animals.
C. The heights of different mountain ranges.
D. Some ocean knowledge from oceanographers.
10. What’s the good aspect about the oceans from the last paragraph?
A. Perhaps there are more species than known.
B. Problems about the oceans have been solved.
C. Oceanographers have calculated the ocean species.
D. The number of ocean species has stopped dropping.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. We must stop the ocean pollution
B. The oceans bring benefits to people
C. The oceans deserve our further study
D. We should have a positive attitude to oceans
D
Life is busy. We’re always expected to be productive and engaged, whether that’s with parenting, housework, or work. While taking time for small rewards can feel like a luxury (奢侈), the truth is that it is necessary for improving our mental health. A key psychological idea behind this is the Premack Principle, which explains why treating ourselves is more than a tendency; it’s a way to improve our daily lives.
In the 1960s, American psychologist David Premack developed a theory now known as Premack Principle. He explained that doing something you’re more likely to do can be a reward for doing something you don’t actually want to do. For instance, if you finish a task you’re not interested in, like cleaning the bathroom, you can treat yourself to something you like, such as watching an episode of your favorite TV show. This approach takes advantage of our natural need for fun to help us get through tasks we might not enjoy.
Recent studies keep showing that giving yourself rewards can help improve your work and happiness. For example, Woolley and Fishbach discovered that getting rewards right away can make you more motivated because it links the reward directly with the task. What’s interesting is that it’s not about how big the reward is but how quickly you get it that matters. Another study by Landry and others found it’s not the reward itself but rather how the reward makes people feel that helps them do their best. This makes sense because rewards boost our dopamine (多巴胺) levels, which plays a key role in how our brains feel pleasure.
The idea of giving ourselves “little treats” is not just about enjoying something; it’s proof of how positive reinforcement can change our behavior and make us feel better mentally. By carefully using the Premack Principle and rewarding ourselves, we can find more motivation (动机) to face challenges and lead a happier life. It’s okay torecognize and celebrate our efforts, big or small.
So, go ahead, give yourself that little treat. You’ve earned it.
12. What is the Premack Principle?
A. A tool to work out a long-term plan.
B. Away to complete tasks effectively.
C. A means to make boring tasks enjoyable.
D. A theory to explain how rewards improve happiness.
13. According to Woolley and Fishbach, what helps to improve motivation?
A. The type of tasks. B. The immediate reward.
C. The size of the reward. D. The level of dopamine.
14. What might be a “positive reinforcement” according to paragraph 4?
A. A cleanup. B. Physical training.
C. Graduation ceremony. D. A favourite snack.
15. What is the most suitable title for the text?
A. The Importance of Productivity B. Motivation and Mental Health
C. The Premack Principle for Life D. Dopamine and the Brain’s Pleasure

Mr. Arthur, who is an elderly man, lives alone in a city. He is a gentle man with a kind smile and he is known for his love of bookstores and his daily walks through the city’s historic district.
One evening, as he was returning home from a park, Mr. Arthur realized with a start that his wallet was missing. He went back over his path, searching everywhere in the park. His heart sank with each passing minute, as the wallet contained a cherished photo of his late wife, which he carried as a treasure. The sun began to set, casting long shadows on the streets. Mr. Arthur felt a deep sense of loss and despair.
Meanwhile, a young man named John was walking home from his favourite job at the local library. As he passed by the bookstore where Mr. Arthur had visited that day, he noticed something lying in the corner of the sidewalk. Curious, he picked it up and found it to be a worn leather wallet.
John opened the wallet, hoping to find some identification to return it to its owner. He took a deep breath when he saw the cash and the personal items inside. Sensing the importance of what he held, he decided to wait at the spot where he found the wallet, hoping that the owner would come back to look for it.
As darkness enveloped the city, Mr. Arthur, with a heavy heart, made his way back to his favourite bookstore, one last hope in his eyes. His steps were slow and tired, but his determination was strong. As he approached the bookstore, he saw a figure standing under the streetlight, holding something in his hands.
“Excuse me, young man. I was wondering if you happened to see an old wallet?” Mr. Arthur asked in a low voice.

【答案】8. B 9. D 10. A 11. C

【答案】Dear Ken,
How are you going these days? Your idea of making use of AI agent tools to assist your Chinese learning is quite fashionable, as we, interestingly in reverse, are using AI agent to improve our English learning.
Allow me to raise some advice based on my learning experience. First, use AI agent only when it is necessary. For example, when we are confused about vocabulary or grammar problems, we can turn to AI agent, for that’s what it is best at. Secondly, remember that AI agent can’t implant its reading experience in us, so read Chinese literary works, which is an irreplaceable way of language learning. What’s more, don’t expect that AI agent would greatly improve your speaking skills, because currently it still can’t replace a real native speaker, with whom we can conduct real communication.
Hope that your Chinese study will benefit a lot from the new way of learning.
Best regards,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The young man’s face lighted up and tended to hand the wall et to the old man. However, he was a little hesitant because he wasn't sure if the wallet actually belonged to the old man.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Sensing the young man’s concern, Mr. Arthur decided to prove he was the owner. “My name is Arthur. If you happened to pick up my wallet, you could find a photo of an elder woman in it. She’s my wife. I love her so much, but she has already passed away.” It seemed like Mr. Arthur was lost in memories, and his eyes became moist. Feeling touched and sympathetic, John took out the photo and handed it to the old man. As soon as Mr. Arthur saw the photo clearly, he kissed it with tears streaming down his face, “Thank you, young gentleman. It means too much to me. Please take the cash in my wallet. In this way I hope to express my thanks.”
John smiled and said, “No need, Mr. Arthur. I’m John and I’m just glad I could help.” John was relieved to return the wallet to Mr. Arthur. The old man persisted in giving John rewards. John gently shook his head and said, “The person who says thank you should be me. Thank you, sir, for reminding me to cherish my loved ones.” Then John left, leaving Mr. Arthur standing alone, with a contented smile on both faces.
