More than 3,500 players from nearly 100 countries competed in the 2026 Olympics. But do you know some animals could beat the best human players in some events? Let’s find out some of the real competitors who could take home an Olympic gold medal!
Arctic Hare
Speed skaters go about 56 kilometers an hour. Me? I can run 64 kilometers an hour on ice and turn directions in such a rapid way! These are good things for me to avoid danger. So, quick turns? No problem at all!
Figure skaters do jumps and draw fantastic shapes without falling over. A piece of cake for me! I got the name “Perfect Walker”. When walking in the snow, I leave just one clean line. I can also jump up to 2 meters high—about four times my body height. With exact moves and cool jumps, I’m sure to get perfect scores!
Red Fox
Mountain Goat
Players climb up a mountain, then rush down. I do this in the wild every day. My special feet can hold rocks closely to help me climb without difficulty. Going down? I just go down the hill on parts of my body such as feet, sides and so on. Nothing else needed!
Skiers sometimes race over 48 kilometers in just one event. That’s only a warm-up for me. I travel about 1,200 kilometers every year to get food in winter and safe places for my babies in spring. I must be the final winner!

Meng Xiang was crazy about films and music during his childhood. When he started college, he dreamed to make films that could combine (结合) his love for storytelling and interest in music.
His biggest challenge came when he planned to make a film about a tennis player. Since no one would offer him money for a 2-hour film, Meng and his college friends tried to make a shorter one. They bought a second-hand camera and used old things instead of expensive equipment. They even made a shelf on their own to support the camera.
Meng and his friends worked hard, rain or shine. When filming the tennis player, they ran after him in the summer sun. If it rained and they couldn’t film outside, they hung bed sheets (床单) on the walls in an empty room to set up a simple studio (摄影棚). This 12-minute film got much attention. The teachers and students in their college liked the music they created for it.
After that, Meng had another idea: to make a musical film. But musicals weren’t popular in college, and many said it wouldn’t work. Instead of listening to the doubts, Meng and his team spent weeks writing new songs and making a test video. To film the moving scenes, they fixed a smartphone on a skateboard and pushed it. The actors’ hair was blowing in the wind while they were dancing and singing. The loud voice and laughter of the team filled the air.
Their musical film was well received and won several awards at a film festival. As Meng said, “Making films isn’t about having the best equipment or famous actors. It’s about finding new ways to tell your story. Our team is planning to make a special documentary about environment. And I can’t wait to write music for it.”
( )6. How would Meng combine his hobbies according to paragraph 1?
A. By creating music. B. By starting a team.
C. By going to college. D. By producing films.
( )7. What was the team’s biggest challenge?
A. Few partners. B. People’s doubts.
C. The money problem. D. Long working time.
( )8. Why did Meng’s team set up a simple studio?
A. To work on rainy days. B. To get much attention.
C. To follow the tennis player. D. To film a moving scene.
( )9. What can be learned from the last sentence of paragraph 4?
A. The actors were popular.
B. The team enjoyed the process.
C. Meng wanted to make another film.
D. The students had good equipment.
( )10. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. To See Is to Believe B. Success Comes From Honesty
C. Music Is the Best Language D. Hard Work Makes Dream Work

Would you completely trust your friends if you couldn't see anything? Our teacher helped us to find the answer.
1 One day, he said that he had a game for us to try. He made us into two groups. One of the students from the first group stands in front of us with his eyes closed, and then falls backwards. The second group stands behind him. Before he falls on the floor, they should catch him and not let him get hurt. Most of us felt bad with this. We were afraid that they wouldn't catch us and we would fall on the floor. 2 We just stood there and laughed.
Finally, one student, a thin, quiet, darkhaired girl called Sarah, decided to move. She put her arms in front of her body, closed her eyes, and slowly fell backwards. __3__
For a moment, I was sure she was going to fall on the floor. 4
We were all surprised, and were also encouraged. The girl was happy, too. Seeing this, Morrie felt happy and said to the girl, “When you close your eyes, you can't see anything. You won't feel safe. When you are falling, you may feel worried. __ 5 __ But if you trust them, they won't let you down.”
A. But before it, the other students caught her and finally helped her stand up.
B. She looked quiet but not scared.

If you dream of becoming a spaceman after you grow up, get started now! A spaceman needs a strong body and mind. See here what spacemen are able to do. They have many abilities that may make you amazed.
Spacemen are able to live upside down. They do this not just during sleep. They also do this when eating and going to the toilet. Before they fly into space, they have lots of practice. Each upsidedown training lasts for 20 days.
Spacemen aren't only drivers, but repairers and scientists. They have to know every part of the spaceship and how it works. If something goes wrong, they must know how to make it work again. Also, they do scientific experiments in space.
Spacemen know how to live in the wild. They take a knife, a gun and some dye(染料) with them into space. If they land in forests, the knife and the gun can protect them from wild animals. If they fall into the sea, the dye colours the water around yellow. This can help people find them easily on the sea.
Spacemen can't get dizzy(眩晕的). A spaceship is not a plane. When it goes up, the extra gravity force can break people's bones. Spacemen must have strong bodies for this. They can't get a headache or be sick. With many things to take care of, they've got no time for sickness.

Never Give Up
Last year, I signed up for my first race, dreaming of finishing like a hero in Forrest Gump. However, after two weeks of training, my legs ached so badly that I wanted to quit. “Every champion was once a beginner who refused to stop,” my coach said when he saw me limping. His words made me think: If I give up now, I’ll never know what I could achieve.
I adjusted my plan—running shorter distances daily and stretching carefully. Gradually, my stamina improved. On race day, though tired, I crossed the finish line with a smile. Like Santiago in The Alchemist, who kept pursuing his dream despite obstacles, I learned that perseverance turns “impossible” into “I’m possible.”
