Born in 1949, Diana Nyad developed an early interest in swimming and became a Florida State High School swimming champion. Like many young athletes, she dreamed of competing in the Olympics, but a serious illness ruined her chance to qualify for the Games. However, the disappointment did not stop her from moving forward. Instead, she turned her focus to marathon swimming. A naturally gifted athlete, Nyad was physically well-conditioned to endure long periods in the water. As a long-distance swimmer, she would compete not only against herself but also against obstacles such as distance, danger, cold, and exhaustion.
Over the next ten years, Nyad dedicated herself to becoming one of the world’s top long-distance swimmers. In 1970, she swam a ten-mile marathon in Lake Ontario, setting the women’s record for that course. In 1972, she broke another record by swimming 102.5 miles from a Bahamian island to the Florida coast. Then, in 1975, she broke a third record when she swam around Manhattan Island.
Nyad attempted to swim the distance between Florida and Cuba in 1978. Though the stretch of water is less than 100 miles wide, it is rough and dangerous. After battling the water for two days, she was forced to abandon the attempt to protect her health and safety. Even so, she impressed the world with her courage and strong desire to succeed. For Nyad, the strength of her purpose mattered as much as reaching Cuba itself. “That was how she defined success,” she later reflected: “It didn’t matter that my swim fell short — I believed I had already touched the other shore.”
To her, success was never just about crossing a finish line — it was about refusing to back down from a dream. When Nyad eventually retired from swimming, she continued to take on new challenges: traveling the world as a reporter, writing books, and delivering public speeches about her life journey. Today, Diana Nyad still works to inspire others, just as she did when she swam the world’s most daunting waters.
41.What is the key reason that Nyad turned to marathon swimming?
A.She failed to qualify for the Olympic Games.
B.She wanted to find a less competitive sport than pool swimming.
C.She found she had a natural talent for spending long periods in water.

Happiness has many levels, and it is difficult to place the word “happy” in one specific category.
I believe that age and happiness are related, but to a certain degree. When asked “What makes you happy?” my twelve-year-old sister initially laughed, claiming she didn’t know. She then answered with “sleeping”, and looked at me for a reaction. When I had none, she changed her answer to food, then to fashion, and finally to family, each time glancing at me looking for validation that she gave a “right” answer. When I told her that there was no correct answer and asked for her final choice, she went back to her original response, sleeping. My younger cousin, also twelve years old, had a surprising answer — not eating candy or watching TV, but helping others. They are both twelve, and watch the same things and listen to the same music, yet my sister was the one that gave many different answers, trying to find the “right” one. I believe this apprehension is deeply rooted in today’s society, and that teenagers are truly afraid to be different and stand for their beliefs, even with something as simple as answering the question of what makes them happy.
Facing the same question, my grandmother immediately answered with her family. Is this because of her age? Or her personality? I know for sure if someone asked my grandma this question thirty years ago she would still say her family makes her happy, as she is and always will be a family-oriented person.
As for me, my family and friends make me happy, but so do reading, watching movies, and even eating ice cream. There isn’t one singular thing that makes me the happiest, because, like everybody, my mood depends on many factors. Sure, my family makes me happy, but not when I fight with my sister; reading a good book makes me happy, but not when I have a headache. Happiness depends on external factors, personality and age. The journey of happiness truly cannot be defined, and no one has one thing above all that makes them the happiest.
51.How did the author’s sister respond to her question?
A.She didn’t answer it honestly.
B.She answered it with uncertainty.
C.She gave a wrong answer at first.
D.She tried to give as many answers as possible.
52.The author uses her sister’s and cousin’s cases to indicate that _______.
A.young people can easily feel happiness
B.young people often have low-level happiness
C.happiness doesn’t always largely depends on age
D.the cause of happiness varies from person to person
53.What does the underlined word “apprehension” in Para.2 mean?
A.Creativity. B.Enthusiasm. C.Casualness. D.Anxiety.
54.What made the author’s grandmother think her family makes her happy?
A.Her old age. B.Her wisdom.
C.Her character. D.Her previous experiences.
55.What does the author mainly talk about in this passage?
A.The categories of happiness. B.The standard of happiness.
C.The true definition of happiness. D.The complexity and diversity of happiness.

Too Far Away from It All?
A TV series in England, Away from It All, has surprised everyone by becoming a huge success with young people.
Its success is surprising because its main character is a shepherd (牧羊人), and the series is about the relaxing lifestyles of people who live in the country. There is none of the action that we usually see on TV. There are also no stressful moments, busy offices, or crowded cities. Away from It All is set in the peaceful English countryside and tells simple stories of people’s kindness.
The director of the series says its success is a sign of teenagers suffering from stress. He says that watching Away from It All helps teenagers forget about the pressures of exams and homework, and the troubles that fill the world. He also claims that it’s a good sign that today’s youth are switching to happier TV series, as it shows they would like a happier and healthier life.
Although the series’ success might have a good side, many teachers and parents are worried. They say that some of their students and children are becoming couch potatoes and are using Away from It All as an excuse for not completing homework. Some students have even refused to study for exams because they say that they can only achieve happiness by avoiding stressful situations completely.
One mother, Lucy Linney, said of her son Patrick, “Before he started watching Away from It All, he loved challenges and volunteered every afternoon. But now he has become a couch potato. His grades have dropped and he no longer volunteers. He says it doesn’t matter as he just wants to ‘get away from it all’.”
And what do the experts say? Paula Ray, a doctor, says that TV can influence young people’s lifestyles. But she says that if a young person reacts as strongly as Patrick, it’s likely that there are other reasons for his change in the behaviour.

D.A health problem prevented her from achieving her original dream.
42.How is the information in the second paragraph organized?
A.By listing events in the order they happened.
B.By describing Nyad’s feelings during each swim.
C.By explaining why Nyad broke swimming records.
D.By comparing Nyad’s swimming speed with others.
43.What does the underlined phrase “fell short” probably mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Ended in failure. B.Was stopped by dangers.
C.Was shorter than planned. D.Took less time than expected.
44.What did Nyad do after she finished her swimming career?
A.She trained young swimmers to achieve their Olympic dreams.
B.She reported on global events as a traveling journalist.
C.She shared her life stories through writing and speaking.
D.She advocated for safer conditions in long-distance swimming.
45.What is the main purpose of the passage?

根据文章第二段的“Nowadays, many inspiring and educational films that are widely loved by the public are adapted from novels written by outstanding contemporary writers, and some of them quickly become popular hit movies that deeply touch the hearts of millions of different viewers across the whole country.(如今,许多广受大众喜爱的励志教育影片都是由杰出的当代作家所写的小说改编而成,其中一些迅速成为热门大片,深深打动了全国各地数百万不同观众的心。)”

D
根据第二段“When asked “What makes you happy?” my twelve-year-old sister initially laughed, claiming she didn’t know. She then answered with “sleeping”, and looked at me for a reaction.(当被问到“什么让你感到幸福?”时,我 12 岁的妹妹先是笑了起来,声称自己不知道。随后她回答说“睡觉”,并看向我等待我的反应。)”可知,作者的妹妹不确定地回答了作者的问题,故选B。
52.推理判断题。根据第二段“They are both twelve, and watch the same things and listen to the same music, yet my sister was the one that gave many different answers, trying to find the “right” one.(他们俩都 12 岁,看同样的节目,听同样的音乐,但我的妹妹给出了许多不同的答案,试图找到那个“正确的”答案。)”和第三段“Facing the same question, my grandmother immediately answered with her family. Is this because of her age? Or her personality? I know for sure if someone asked my grandma this question thirty years ago she would still say her family makes her happy, as she is and always will be a family-oriented person.(面对同样的问题,我的奶奶立刻用她家人的例子来回答。这是因为她年纪大了吗?还是因为她的人格特质呢?我非常确定,如果三十年前有人问奶奶这个问题,她还是会说她的家人让她感到快乐,因为她一直以来都是一个注重家庭的人。)”可知,作者用她妹妹和表妹的例子来表明幸福并不总是很大程度上取决于年龄。故选C。
53.词句猜测题。根据第二段“They are both twelve, and watch the same things and listen to the same music, yet my sister was the one that gave many different answers, trying to find the “right” one.(他们俩都 12 岁,看同样的节目,听同样的音乐,但我的妹妹给出了许多不同的答案,试图找到那个“正确的”答案。)”和“teenagers are truly afraid to be different and stand for their beliefs, even with something as simple as answering the question of what makes them happy(青少年确实害怕与众不同,害怕坚持自己的信念,哪怕只是回答“什么让他们感到幸福”这样一个简单的问题)”可知,妹妹给出了许多不同的答案,试图找到那个“正确的”答案,他们害怕坚持自己的信念,会感到焦虑,apprehension意为“忧虑”,和Anxiety意思相近。故选D。
根据第三段“I know for sure if someone asked my grandma this question thirty years ago she would still say her family makes her happy, as she is and always will be a family-oriented person.(我非常确定,如果三十年前有人问奶奶这个问题,她还是会说她的家人让她感到快乐,因为她一直以来都是一个注重家庭的人。)”
通读全文,尤其是第一段“Happiness has many levels, and it is difficult to place the word “happy” in one specific category.(幸福有多种层次,而且很难将“幸福”一词归入某一特定类别之中。)”和最后一段“The journey of happiness truly cannot be defined, and no one has one thing above all that makes them the happiest.(幸福的定义确实难以界定,而且没有人有一样高于其他一切的东西能让他们感到最幸福。)”
56.What is the TV series Away from It All about?(no more than 8 words)
57.According to the director, why is Away from It All a success?(no more than 15 words)
58.What do the underlined words in Paragraph 4 mean?(no more than 7 words)
59.According to the 4th paragraph, what do many teachers and parents worry about because of Away from It All?(no more than 10 words)
60.Do you agree with Dr. Paula Ray’s saying, “TV can influence young people’s lifestyles”? Please give your reason(s).(no more than 20 words)
56.The relaxing countryside lifestyles and people’s kindness. 57.It helps stressed teenagers escape exam pressure and dream of a happier life. 58.Lazy people who watch TV all day. 59.Students avoid homework and exams, becoming lazy. 60.Yes. Teens often copy what they see; relaxing shows may reduce their motivation to work hard.
根据第二段“Away From It All is set in the peaceful English countryside and tells simple stories of people’s kindness. (《远离尘嚣》以宁静的英国乡村为背景,讲述人们善良的简单故事)”可知,电视剧讲述轻松的乡村生活方式和人们的善良。故答案是The relaxing countryside lifestyles and people’s kindness.
根据第三段“He says that watching Away from It All helps teenagers forget about the pressures of exams and homework, and the troubles that fill the world. (他说,观看《远离尘嚣》有助于青少年忘记考试和家庭作业的压力,以及充满世界的烦恼。)”以及“He also claims that it’s a good sign that today’s youth are switching to happier TV series, as it shows they would like a happier and healthier life. (他还声称,今天的年轻人转向更快乐的电视剧是一个好迹象,因为这表明他们想要更快乐、更健康的生活。)”可知,导演认为电视剧的成功是因为它帮助紧张的青少年摆脱考试压力,梦想更幸福的生活。故答案是It helps stressed teenagers escape exam pressure and dream of a happier life.
根据第四段“They say that some of their students and children are becoming couch potatoes and are using Away from It All as an excuse for not completing homework.”(他们说,他们的一些学生和孩子正在变成couch potatoes,并把《远离尘嚣》当作不完成作业的借口。) Lazy people who watch TV all day.
根据第四段“Some students have even refused to study for exams because they say that they can only achieve happiness by avoiding stressful situations completely. (一些学生甚至拒绝为考试学习,因为他们说只能通过完全避免压力来获得快乐。)”以及“using Away from It All as an excuse for not completing homework(把《远离尘嚣》当作不完成作业的借口)”可知,很多老师和家长但心看了《远离尘嚣》后学生逃避作业和考试,变得懒惰。 Students avoid homework and exams, becoming lazy.
Yes. Teens often copy what they see; relaxing shows may reduce their motivation to work hard.

凯勒的文章Three Days to See,写一篇读后感投稿。
1. 简述这篇文章带给你的核心触动;
2. 结合自身生活实例,谈谈人们坐拥美好,却不懂珍惜的普遍心态;
Dear Sir,
Having read the classic essay Three Days to See by Helen Keller, I have been profoundly struck and inspired. Though living in a world of silence and darkness, she longs eagerly for just three days of sight. To her, common sights and sounds are still precious gift worthy of being cherished. Her passion for life has left me endless reflection.
It’s a common human weakness that we always take what we possess for granted/overlook what we possess. I used to be immersed in heavy schoolwork, becoming indifferent to my parents’ considerate care. I seldom spared time to chat with them. I also turned a blind eye to the wonderful sunrise, fresh air and lovely scenery around me, wasting countless ordinary but valuable days without a grateful heart.
This article has taught me a lifelong lesson. From now on, I will learn to slow down my pace, appreciate beauties in daily life, and treasure all I possess. Only when we truly value the present can we live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Yours sincerely,
Li Jin

Dear Sir,
Having read the classic essay Three Days to See by Helen Keller, I have been profoundly struck and inspired.
Yours sincerely,
Li Jin

D.A health problem prevented her from achieving her original dream.
42.How is the information in the second paragraph organized?
