You may feel that math is difficult and boring. Is it possible
that you've been looking at math in the wrong way? Li Xing, a
math teacher at Ningxia University, thinks math can be beautiful
and fun. I completely agree with what he said.
4
Numbers are beautiful
There is math hidden in beautiful human bodies. Measure
(测量) the length from your head to your belly button (肚脐)
and from your belly button to your feet. The ratio (比例) of
these two numbers is always around 0.618.This is the golden ratio,
which can be seen everywhere, like in nature, music and paintings.
In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers. As
Li Bai wrote,“My skiff (小船) has left ten thousand mountains
far away”“A thousand miles in one day”—all these numbers show
how fast Li Bai traveled and how happy he felt.

China has a long history of creating encyclopedias
(百科全书). One of the first encyclopedias was the Huanglan. It
was created around 220 CE.Another important encyclopedia was the
Yongle Dadian. The Yongle Dadian was completed in 1408 and
had over 11,000 volumes (卷). It is probably the largest
encyclopedia in history. Both the Huanglan and Yongle Dadian
included important pieces of writing. These entries (条目)
covered subjects like history, art and science.

Encyclopedias in other parts of the world also go back a long
way in history. The earliest known encyclopedias in Europe were
written by the Greeks in the 4th century BCE…
Encyclopedias have played an important role through history in
recording and providing information. They are still a useful tool,
and they help us learn about the world that we live in.#4

Rules are everywhere… But do you know any rules for taking
the subway (地铁)? When you take the subway in Beijing, you
can find some rules.
When you are at the station, the rules can stop you and other
people from being in danger. You need to wait in line before
getting on the subway. You must stand behind the yellow line.
When the subway gets to the station, let the people get off first.
You can't run onto the subway. When you hear a “beep”

sound, the door is closing. Do not get on the subway. You can
wait for the next one.
After you get on the subway, the following rules help you and
other people have a good subway trip. You can't smoke on the
subway. You can't run and you can't eat anything or have a drink.
If there are old people, the disabled or women with babies, please
give your seat to them.#1.2

AI chatbots (聊天机器人) might be very smart, but a new
study found that they're not good at giving health advice. Some
people use AI to find out what is wrong with them and to help
them decide when to see a doctor—or even go to hospital. This is
a problem if the advice they get isn't correct.
AI companies have developed chatbots that focus on health
problems, and some of them have even passed medical exams.
However, the new study shows that they aren't very useful when a
real person asks them for help with their health.

Almost 1,300 people took part in the study. Each was given
fake health problems with a list of symptoms (症状)
(signs or effects)and asked to use an AI to get a made-up
medical history. For example, one healthy person was told to tell
the AI that he had a really bad headache.
The people were divided into two groups. One group could
ask the AI chatbots to identify (确认) their illness and say
whether they should look after themselves at home or see a doctor.
The other group could use the Internet to find out the same

information. Real doctors then checked whether the volunteers had
worked out their “illness” and what to do next.
The results of the study are worrying. Only about one third of
the volunteers got the right answer from the AI. In fact, the study
found that the AI's advice was no better than just using the
Internet.
“AI can't be safely depended on to take the place of a
medical expert,” said Dr. Rebecca Payne, who led the study. She
said that asking an AI for health advice can be wrong sometimes.
