April 22nd is Earth Day. Every year, all students in my city celebrate Earth Day to encourage more people to protect our planet. Origin (起源) The idea of the first Earth Day came from Gaylord Nelson. In 1970, about 60% of lakes and rivers in the US were polluted. So Nelson started Earth Day and asked Americans to take action. Twenty years after the first Earth Day, about 200 million people from141 countries celebrated Earth Day. In 2000, about 500 million people celebrated it. You can help the planet There are still many environmental problems on the earth, like air pollution and water pollution. Go green! It means thinking and caring about the environment. There are three R’s of going green. Things you can do ●Take short showers. ●Use cloth shopping bags. ●Always pick up your rubbish. ●Don’t leave the fridge door open for too long. ●Give away clothes and things you don’t use. ●______ 21. What is the purpose of the students’ celebrating Earth Day? A. To learn more about the earth. B. To show how much they love the earth. C. To remember protectors of the environment. D. To encourage more people to protect the earth. 22. Why did Nelson start Earth Day? A. Because he wanted to live a green life. B. Because he wanted to get people together. C. Because the government asked him to do so. D. Because he realized that pollution was serious. 23. Which of the following can’t be put in “______”? A. Keep the lights on. B.Plant more trees. C. Walk or ride a bike. D. Say no to plastic bags. B People often ask me for suggestions about how to learn English. As for it, everyone is different. I’ll share some of my experience. I once took a school English course for one year in Wuhan University, but I mostly learnt English on my own. One thing I can tell you is that, once you start learning, you should try to think in English as much as you can. If you see something when you’re riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about “How would I say them in English?” At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I am in England, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It is amazing how much this helps. For several years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I did not want to make mistakes. Finally I got it over. And while travelling in England, I’d try to hang out with friends who couldn’t speak Chinese, so that I’d have no choice but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly. Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your English friends to look at the way you’re writing, and give you some suggestions for improvement. 24.How long did the author learn English in Wuhan University? A. A week. B. A year. C. A term. D. A month. 25. What is the good way to improve your English according to the author? A. Reading English books. B.Watching English films. C. Thinking in English. D. Learning English grammar. 26. Where did the author improve his English quickly? A. In China. B. In England. C. In the university. D. In the middle school. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. My University Life B. British English C. My English Learning Experience D. The Importance of Learning English C We all need Vitamin(维生素) D because it helps to build and keep strong bones. A lack of it can lead to some bone diseases. As studies show, sunlight is great for making Vitamin D. When you’re outdoors, your body will create the Vitamin D you need from direct sunlight on your skin. In order to get enough Vitamin D, you should get 10-30 minutes of sunlight at a time, several times a week. However, people with darker skin may need a little more time than this. Besides, your exposure (暴露) time in the sunlight should rely on how sensitive your skin is to sunlight. Too much sunlight can be dangerous, for it may cause some bad results, including sunburn, eye damage, and skin problems. If you have to stay in the sunlight for a long time, you should be careful not to let sunlight hurt your skin, so take care to protect your skin with sunscreen before it starts to turn red. In a word, your ability to make Vitamin D from sunlight depends on the time of day, your skin color, where you live and so on. Keep those in mind when you go out for Vitamin D from sunlight. 28. Why do people need Vitamin D according to Paragraph 1? A. To keep their bones strong. B. To make their teeth white. C. To make their faces pretty. D. To keep their hair healthy. 29. We can infer that our body creates Vitamin D by ______. A. doing some exercise B. losing much weight C. staying in the sunlight D. walking in the moonlight 30. What is the bad result if you stay in the sunlight too long? A. Lung diseases. B. Skin problems C. Heart diseases. D. Breath problems. 31. Where is the text probably taken from? A. A story book. B. A telephone book. C. A music magazine. D. A health magazine. D Elephants are the largest terrestrial (陆地的) animals. For a long time, they are very helpful. They carry big trees, take people from place to place and are even used in wars. Some people think it’s not easy to hurt an elephant because its skin is thick and hard. In fact, that’s wrong. Sometimes, a needle (针) can also be very dangerous for the elephant. People say elephants are afraid of mice. This is wrong, too. In fact, elephants have very poor eyesight(视力), so they usually cannot see a mouse even if one comes very close to them. If a person has a good memory (记忆), people will say that he has an elephant memory. However, up to now, no study shows that elephants have a better memory than any other animal. People also believe that when it is time for elephants to die they will hide themselves in a so-called “elephant graveyard”. Often, hunters try to find such places to get ivories (象牙) but few people really find places like that. In fact, when elephants are old or get sick, they will stay in deep and secret caves (洞穴) until they get better or die. 32. Elephants can help people a lot EXCEPT that they ________. A. carry heavy trees B. help people build houses C. carry people to different places D. help people in the war 33. Why do some people think it isn’t easy to hurt an elephant? A. Because the elephant is too big. B. Because people can’t get close to it. C. Because the elephant can kill people. D. Because its skin is thick and hard. 34. How do you understand the underline part “elephant graveyard” in the last paragraph? A. A place for hiding dead elephants. B. A place for animals to play in. C. A place with yards and flowers. D. A place where elephants are safe. 35. What can we learn from the passage? A. Elephants are afraid of mice. B. Elephants have very poor memory. C. Elephants cannot see very clearly. D. Elephants never go to caves. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,共12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. ___36____ Since the Warring States Period (战国时期), the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. ____37____ And sugar, the expensive product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared. Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. ____38____ Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. Most of the children in Hope’s class had at least one parent working in a factory. Hope loved her class and often told me stories of her classmates, including a boy named Robert who was in trouble a lot. He always stood in the corner for poor behavior in class. I volunteered to act as “the classroom mom”, meaning bringing snacks and planned parties and special outings for her class, even though I worked full-time as a social worker. One day I saw Robert standing in the corner and asked the teacher if he could join our Mother’s Day party. She refused, saying he needed to learn a lesson. I wasn’t sure what he had done to make the teacher place him in the corner, but I felt sad for him as we ate cakes and played games while he continued to face the corner. After the party, I asked Hope what was wrong with Robert. “It seemed that he went to school only for basketball. He didn’t listen to our teacher in class and he talked back. If you were his mother, I bet he wouldn’t talk back,” Hope said. I knew Robert’s mother worked long hours in the paper-making factory. I knew she was a good woman, who found it hard to care for her four children alone. She tried her best, but I was sure there were days when she felt hopeless and was unable to manage it. Hope said Robert often got angry in class when he didn’t know the answer to a question and couldn’t read as well as the other children. Hope’s words struck me and made me think about whether I could help Robert on a one-to-one basis. His teacher allowed me to come two days a week during my lunch break and help Robert with reading. We read second grade-level books, the highest level he could master. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150词左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 Slowly he began to master these books, almost enjoying them. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ At the end of the fourth grade, Robert and his classmates took the final exams. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
