As we grow up, it becomes natural for us to lose contact with the hobbies that once were important in our lives. While it’s painful to accept this, the new reality becomes normal for most of us as we face new academic, adult and job responsibilities.
I’ve been dancing since I was four and I plan to continue dancing in college. However, I’ve always feared that dancing will affect my study and eventually become a happy memory of my childhood. After learning about Sommer Gentry’s story, I had an answer.
Sommer Gentry, previously a professor of mathematics at the United States Naval Academy and a coach at the Naval Academy’s Swing Dance Club, is currently a teacher at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Gentry and her husband also started a swing dance community to introduce non-dancers to swing dance.
Through teaching, Gentry was inspired to view dancing from an engineering point of view. She said, “I realized it is an engineering question: How do you dance well with someone? It’d be great to give people mathematical and engineering proofs that they have to dance the way I say.” Gentry investigated the complex haptic (触觉的) communication behind the moves in swing dance and showed that two persons could move in coordination (协调) with pure haptic communication. She entered an exciting area of research which is about engineering, psychology and human motor control.
It’s incredibly inspiring that Gentry was able to intertwine her academic work with her love for dancing. Gentry said, “It means that even when I’m dancing outside, I’m thinking about my research project.”
Gentry found that digging into her academic interest does not mean letting go of her other non-academic ones. Instead, she found a way to include both in her professional life. Just like me, Gentry is a mathematician and dancer, thus, her story resonates (引起共鸣) strongly with me, and I want to be like her in the future.
24. What did the author think of dancing before learning of Gentry’s story?
A. It was too challenging for her. B. It might disappear from her life.
C. It brought her pleasant memories. D. It developed her sense of responsibility.
25. According to the fourth paragraph, which of the following best summarizes the main idea?
A. Gentry chose academics over dancing.
B. Gentry gave up dancing due to its irrelevance to her research.
C. Dancing has no connection to engineering or psychology for Gentry.
D. Gentry viewed dancing as an engineering problem.
26. What does the underlined word in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Hardly balance. B. Carefully compare. C. Closely combine. D. Successfully challenge.
27. What can we infer about the author from the last paragraph?
A. She has decided to change her major.
B. She will continue to pursue her hobby.
C. She used to be Sommer Gentry’s student.
D. She originally had little interest in engineering.
【答案】24. B 25. D 26. C 27. B

Microplastics have been discovered in the human heart and its innermost (最内层的) tissues for the first time. While the health effects of this are still unknown, the new study is yet another reminder of how widespread the world’s plastic problem has become within just a century.
In the new study, scientists in China collected cardiac tissue samples (心脏组织样本) from 15 patients undergoing (经历,接受) heart operations, as well as blood samples taken both pre-operation and post-operation. Using a number of different imaging techniques, the team “detected tens to thousands of individual microplastic pieces in most tissue samples”, according to the news.
While it’s clear that operations did introduce microplastics, there was also evidence that the foreign plastics were fixed firmly in the tissues before the patients were laid on the operating table. For starters, all of the blood samples contained microplastics. The blood samples taken post-operation contained microplastics of a smaller size and had more diverse types of plastics. This suggests that some microplastics got into the body during the operation. Out of the tissue samples, the researchers found nine types of plastic in five types of heart tissues. Some of these microplastics were evidently there before any operation took place.
The team identified microscopic particles of poly (聚乙烯微粒), a plastic commonly used to take over from glass, in several heart tissues, which they say “cannot be caused by accidental contact during operations”. Other types of plastic found in the samples are those widely used in clothing, food containers, building and construction.
“The detection of microplastics in a living body is alarming, and more studies are necessary to study why the microplastics appear in the cardiac tissues and the long-term effects of microplastics after the cardiac operation,” the study authors write in their conclusion.
The impact of microplastics on animal health is not widely agreed upon nor fully understood, although evidence is starting to show that it has a harmful effect, unsurprisingly.
28. What do we know about the 15 patients?
A. They had blood diseases. B. They offered images of samples.
C. They had heart problems. D. They suffered from microplastics.
29. Why did blood samples taken post-operation contain more types of plastics?
A. Detection techniques were improved. B. Some blood samples were polluted.
C. Microplastics changed into more types. D. Operations introduced new microplastics.
30. What is the author’s attitude towards the detection of microplastics in cardiac tissues?
A. Concerned B. Indifferent C. Thrilled D. Enthusiastic
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Researchers confirmed the effect of microplastics
B. Researchers found microplastics in human hearts
C. Microplastics will replace glass in heart operations
D. Microplastics can be used in human heart operations
【答案】28. C 29. D 30. A 31. B
【解析】

【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“The blood samples taken post-operation contained microplastics of a smaller size and had more diverse types of plastics. This suggests that some microplastics got into the body during the operation. (术后采集的血样中含有尺寸更小、类型更多样的微塑料。这表明一些微塑料是在手术过程中进入体内的)”可知,术后血样含有更多类型的塑料是因为手术带入了新的微塑料。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段中“The detection of microplastics in a living body is alarming (在活体中检测到微塑料是令人担忧的)”可推知,作者对在心脏组织中检测到微塑料持担忧态度。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。结合第一段中“Microplastics have been discovered in the human heart and its innermost (最内层的) tissues for the first time. (微塑料首次在人类心脏及其最内层组织中被发现)”和下文对该研究的介绍可知,文章主要介绍了研究人员在人类心脏中发现微塑料的研究。故B项“Researchers found microplastics in human hearts (研究人员在人类心脏中发现微塑料)”能概括文章内容,最适合做文章标题。

Scientists believe nature is good for our well-being (幸福). But what’s the secret that brings about the benefit? A recent study by researcher Craig Anderson and his colleagues suggests it could be awe (敬畏) — a sense of being in the presence of something greater than ourselves that fills us with wonder.
The first part of the study had some people go on a four-day river rafting (漂流) trip. They rowed through dangerous rapids in the forested areas in California. They also camped out in the wild. Before and after the trip, they reported on their well-being, including their stress levels and satisfaction with life. During the trip, they kept diaries about their emotions, including whether they’d felt awe, peace, gratitude, joy, or pride that day. At the end of the trip, their well-being had increased greatly. Studying the diaries, the researchers discovered awe — above other positive emotions — seemed to explain the improvement.
In the second part, Anderson studied whether awe played a role in more ordinary, everyday experiences in nature. The answer is also yes. This is good news, because sometimes it’s not that easy for people to have long wilderness trips. “You don’t have to do amazing things in nature to feel awe,” says Anderson. “By taking a few minutes to enjoy flowers or a sunset in nature, you also improve your well-being.”
Anderson says that awe may benefit you by creating a “small self” — a sense that you will have when you’re in the presence of something bigger than yourself, which may make worries and stresses less significant by comparison.
But he also says that there could be other ways that nature improves our well-being. For example, the related physical exercise in nature could have made a difference too. Anyway, Anderson believes there’s enough evidence to encourage people to add more experiences in nature to their daily life. “People need to slow down and make space for that in their lives,” Anderson says.
32. What does the study by Anderson and his colleagues mainly find?
A. What impacts a trip has on people. B. What makes being in nature beneficial.
C. What interests travelers in nature. D. What good feelings people have in nature.
33. How does awe take effect according to the text?
A. By stressing the greatness of nature.
B. By getting people to forget their worries.
C. By making people’s problems seem less serious.
D. By encouraging people to solve problems actively.
34. What does Anderson appeal to people to do in the last paragraph?
A. Get in touch with nature. B. Show respect for nature.
C. Make time to do exercise. D. Do more research on nature.
35. What’s the text most probably from?
A. A newspaper. B. A tour guide. C. A diary. D. A science magazine.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. D

Then spend at least the first 30 minutes of your day building good habits.”(为了避免早上醒来时看手机,把手机放在另一个房间或外套口袋里。然后每天至少花30分钟养成好习惯。)可知,为了避免醒来时看手机,要每天至少花30分钟养成好的习惯,空处应该是具体解释好的习惯是什么,F选项“This could be exercise like a morning run or cooking a good breakfast.”(这可以是晨跑或者做早餐这样的锻炼。)符合,承接上文,其中this代指上文提到的“好习惯”,故选F。
【37题详解】
根据上文“Studies show that on average we use the phone 50 to 150 times a day.”(研究表明,我们平均每天使用电话50到150次。)和下文“You could do some reading, do a crossword puzzle or even something as simple as a walk in the yard—anything helping you get rid of your phone is OK.”(你可以读读书,做做字谜游戏,甚至做一些简单的事情,比如在院子里散散步——任何能帮助你摆脱手机的事情都可以。)
根据上文“One of the main problems with smart phones is that you worry if you don’t check your phone regularly, you may miss out on something important, such as invitations to events or work emails.”(智能手机的一个主要问题是,你担心如果你不定期看手机,你可能会错过一些重要的事情,如邀请活动或工作电子邮件。)和下文“When someone has something important to tell you, they may give you a call.”(如果有人有重要的事情要告诉你,他们可能会给你打电话。)可知,空处应该是和上文存在转折关系,说明不频繁使用手机也不必担心错过什么重要的事,B选项“However, it is almost never the case.”(然而,事情从来都不是这样。)符合,引起下文,故选B。
【39题详解】
根据上文“Put away your phone when you are with someone important.”(和重要人物在一起的时候,把手机收起来。)和下文“For example, having dinner with friends will become awkward if you always check your phone.”(例如,如果你总是查看手机,和朋友吃饭就会变得很尴尬。)可知,空处应该是具体解释上文内容,即和重要人物在一起的时候要把手机收起来,这是因为手机上瘾有损人际关系,同时下文具体举例子说明此问题。G选项“Many relationships have suffered because of our addiction to the phone.”(因为我们沉迷于电话,很多人际关系都受到了影响。)符合,承上启下,故选G。
【40题详解】
根据下文“That is because being addicted to the phone before going to bed greatly influences your sleep. This can harm your physical and mental health in the long run. Therefore, make it a rule to stop using your phone an hour before you go to sleep.”( 那是因为上床前沉迷于手机会极大地影响你的睡眠。从长远来看,这会损害你的身心健康。所以,在睡觉前一小时不要用手机。)可知,本段主要讲睡觉前看手机会损害人们的身心健康,空处位于段首,引起下文,E选项“A good rest should be more important than your phone at night.”(好好休息比晚上打电话更重要。)符合,概括了本段大意,故选E。

Whether Space Is Worth Exploring
Recently our class had a heated discussion on whether space is worth exploring. Students hold different ideas about it.
30% of us think space exploration is not worthwhile, holding the belief that space exploration is too far away from us and our daily life and is a waste of money.
However, 70% think space is worth exploring because we have benefited a lot from it, such as using satellites for communication and weather forecast. What’s more, with further space research, we may solve the population problem by moving to other planets one day.
As far as I am concerned, it is worthwhile to explore the space. Not only can it promote the development of society but also enrich our life.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Every time my family makes special plans, they end up getting canceled due to some incidents. Every time that happens, my parents would tell us to look on the bright side and make the best of a bad situation. However, I never managed to do that until this spring.
On a sunny morning last month, my aunt Jen invited us to the outdoor spring celebration on her farm. Since my family hadn’t done anything different for ages, the whole family was very excited and everyone pulled his own weight to make sure everything went as planned. In order to add more fun to this exciting trip, my little sister Indi and my little brother Tex even joined me to make an extra-special treat — cupcakes.
It was intended that the picnic would go from twelve to three. After double-checking the car, my parents loaded books, games, a picnic blanket and a pack of food into the car. The moment of our departure (离开) finally arrived as the clock struck 11. However, everything went wrong the instant we bravely drove off. First, we had to stop and wait for Tex to find his shoes. Next, as we were driving down the road, we had to go back to the house because my mom forgot her wallet. Then, about halfway to Aunt Jen’s house, we had to drive far out of our way to find a place for Indi to use the bathroom. After that, my parents decided it’d be quicker to take one little country road as a shortcut (近路). But the shortcut ended up turning into a long way! We drove forever on a winding road with the wildflower field spreading endlessly out on both sides and the deep green pine trees going on and on within our sight. Spotting hundreds of birds flying in the sky, I was seized by a growing sense of desperation for I entirely had no idea when we could hit our destination.
Paragraph 1:
Just then, our car started making a strange noise.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
At first, we kids weren’t exactly excited about the idea.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version
Just then, our car started making a strange noise. Obviously, there was something wrong with it and we had to pull over and call roadside services. Dad comforted us and claimed help would arrive soon. But help didn’t arrive soon at all. I was so frustrated and close to tears. Then came Dad’s voice. “Look on the bright side,” Dad said. “Our car couldn’t have picked a prettier place to break down.” Mom agreed, getting the picnic blanket out, and suggested walking over to that beautiful wildflower field and having our own springtime celebration.
At first, we kids weren’t exactly excited about the idea. We carried our things over to the field, dragged ourselves down on the picnic blanket, and complained. But as we started looking around, cool things started happening. Hundreds of butterflies were dancing on the wildflower field, looking like a dramatic landscape. Birds rose up out of the pine trees and flew around and around in the most amazing wave-like patterns, right over our heads! Just right there, we enjoyed our handmade special treats, which were so delicious! It ended up being one of the most amazing picnics in my life.

C
D
