Dear fellow students,
During the summer study trip, I witnessed some uncivilized behaviors, like littering and scribbling on relics. I felt deeply upset as these actions not only polluted the scenic spots but also damaged the cultural heritage. Such behaviors harm the natural environment and ruin the beauty of historical sites for future visitors.
Here are my proposals: Firstly, always carry a trash bag and dispose of waste properly. Secondly, respect cultural relics by not touching or writing on them. Remember our behavior reflects our character and determines the future of these precious sites.
Let’s act as responsible travelers to preserve these treasures for generations to come!

【参考范文】
Slowly, Susan raised her head and asked the shopkeeper whether she could take a photo of the vase. The elderly woman nodded with a warm smile, encouraging her to capture the beauty of the “broken” art. Susan held the phone steady, focusing on the golden crack that turned the vase’s flaws into a unique masterpiece. In that moment, the image on the screen seemed to merge with her own reflection in the shop window. She realized that her “scars” from the treatment were not signs of defeat, but golden lines of survival. Just like the vase, she had been broken by life, but she could be mended with courage and self-love, becoming even more precious than before.
Empowered by this new perspective, she decided to share her story with her fellow patients. The next day at the hospital, instead of hiding in the corner with her wig pulled down low, Susan walked into the support group with her head held high. She showed them the photo she had taken and shared the wisdom of Kintsugi about finding beauty in brokenness. Seeing the tears and hopeful smiles on their faces, Susan felt a long-lost sense of purpose returning. She was no longer just a fragile victim of cancer; she was a survivor, shining with the golden light of resilience, ready to embrace her new life with pride.

Sydney Opens Early for the World Cup and Sydney Marathon
The Socceroos’ run may be over, but the FIFA World Cup is far from finished. With the Sydney Marathon following in August, businesses across the city have plenty of reasons to open early.
Council (政务委员会) declared both the FIFA World Cup and the Sydney Marathon special events, unlocking extended trading hours so eligible (符合条件的) businesses can open early.
FIFA World Cup
With games kicking off in the early hours, non-licensed businesses can open early to serve fans out watching the football. Extended trading applies to eligible premises (营业场所) across the City of Sydney for the remaining World Cup games, with permitted opening times matched to each day’s fixtures:
Wednesday 15 July — from 4 am
Thursday 16 July — from 4 am
Sunday 19 July — from 6 am
Monday 20 July — from 4 am
Sydney Marathon
The 2026 Sydney Marathon starts at 6: 15 am on Sunday 30 August and draws around 50,000 runners, along with even more spectators lining the course to cheer them on.
Eligible businesses in Sydney, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills and Paddington — the suburbs along the route — can open from 4 am, so participants and visitors can grab a bite or a coffee before and during the race.
It’s a chance for local businesses to make the most of the crowds, welcome visitors to the area and share in the atmosphere of one of the city’s biggest days on the running calendar.
Who’s eligible
Restaurants, cafés, shops and takeaway food and drink outlets are all eligible. The extended hours will apply automatically and businesses already permitted to trade beyond these hours can continue as usual.

A new three-story ode (颂歌;礼赞) to Shanghai dumplings is opening in downtown Manhattan this month. Tin’s regards itself as a New York-meets-Shanghai bar and restaurant spotlighting sheng jian bao (pan-fried soup dumplings). The name works twofold; it’s co-owner Mercury Tin’s last name and an abbreviation for “Things I Need,” which, for the couple, means those sheng jian bao.
When Dizard and Tin were dating, she often talked about memories of flying back home to Shanghai, when she’d have whoever was picking her up at the airport bring her sheng jian bao so she could eat them in the car. “This woman misses these dumplings more than she misses her bread,” Dizard says. When the two traveled to Shanghai to visit her parents, Dizard had his first taste of sheng jian bao, which he thought embodied every delicious aspect of a dumpling. “It’s crunchy, pillowy, steamed, delicate; it has this vibrant, aromatic soup; it’s got this beautiful, seasoned meatball,” he explains. That sparked his mission to find a suitable option in New York City, but he came up short. And that’s why they’re opening Tin’s.
The layout of Tin’s is a downward spiral (螺旋形) by design with three stories: a ground-floor restaurant and bar described as a Shanghai diner, a basement bar with food, and a sub-basement private dining room. “We want you to descend deeper into our fantasy of how New York and Shanghai can collide,” Dizard says. Each public floor has its own cocktail menu, full of drinks for $21.88 (eight represents good luck in Chinese culture).
The physical space, which fits 80 people overall, features lots of Art Deco and 20th-century Shanghai and New York details, including stained glass and a vaulted (拱形的) ceiling in the basement bar. When fully operational, the sheng jian bao will be its centerpiece, served on both floors. Other dishes include green onion oil noodles and Shanghai-style fried rice.
24. What is the meaning behind the name Tin’s?
A. Two classic Chinese foods. B. The owner’s surname and a memory.
C. A combination of two city cultures. D. The owner’s surname and a shared desire.

26. Which word best describes Tin’s design?
A. Integrated. B. Traditional. C. Simple. D. Complex.
27. What can be the best title of the text?
A. A Love Story Behind Dumplings B. Tin’s: Shanghai Meets New York
C. A New Dumpling Restaurant in Manhattan D. The Unique Design of A Three-Story Restaurant

As the world transitions towards renewable energy sources like wind and solar power, a significant challenge remains: these sources are intermittent. The sun does not always shine, and the wind does not always blow. To solve this problem, engineers rely on “long-duration energy storage” systems. Among these, Pumped Storage Hydro (PSH) technology stands out as a giant, reliable battery for the national grid.
Unlike chemical batteries that store energy in lithium or lead, PSH stores energy using gravity and water. A typical PSH facility consists of two reservoirs at different elevations — upper and lower — connected by a tunnel containing a reversible pump turbine (涡轮机). The system operates in a charging-discharging cycle. When electricity is surplus (e. g., at night or during high wind), the system consumes cheap power to pump water from the lower reservoir up to the upper one, effectively converting electrical energy into gravitational potential energy.
When demand for electricity peaks, such as during the early evening, the stored water is released back down through the tunnel. The flowing water spins turbine blades, driving a generator to produce electricity. This mechanism allows PSH plants to respond within seconds, stabilizing voltage (电压) and frequency.
Though not new — the first plant was built in the 1890s — PSH is becoming increasingly vital. Modern grids need massive storage to handle the variability of green energy. Currently, PSH accounts for over 90% of the world’s large-scale energy storage. However, building these facilities is complex. It requires specific geography — mountains with sufficient height difference between two water bodies. Furthermore, environmental concerns regarding local ecosystems must be carefully managed.
Despite the high initial costs and long construction times, PSH offers a lifespan of 50 to 100 years, far exceeding lithium-ion batteries. As countries race to meet net-zero targets, this “green giant” provides a proven solution to keep the lights on when nature takes a break. It serves as a critical bridge, ensuring the transition to a renewable future is both stable and sustainable.
28. What is the primary function of PSH technology?
A. To store energy for later use. B. To generate power affordably.
C. To reduce the cost of batteries. D. To replace all chemical batteries.
29. How does the PSH system work when there is extra electricity?
A. By keeping water in the lower reservoir.
B. By moving water up to the upper reservoir.
C. By letting water flow down to turn turbines.
D. By turning gravitational energy into electricity.
30. What is a main difficulty in building PSH plants?
A. They destroy local ecosystems.
B. They consume massive green energy.
C. They do not last long enough to be useful.
D. They need special land with height differences.
31. What can be inferred about the long-term use of PSH?
A. It will be replaced by greener energy soon.
B. Its high start-up cost makes it unprofitable.
C. Its harm to nature is greater than its benefit.
D. Its long lifespan makes the early cost worthwhile.

Heat waves are becoming more common, with severe health consequences ranging from cardiovascular diseases to death. Even setting aside those direct risks, however, heat has severe indirect consequences; numerous studies have shown that high temperatures impair (损害) cognitive functions, which in turn leads to poor decisions.
The reasons why high temperatures cloud your brain are probably related to changes in brain blood flow. When air temperature is too high, your body attempts to protect you by redirecting blood and energy to cool you down, a process called thermoregulation. Unfortunately, this alters blood flow to the brain, and although the exact mechanisms are not yet fully understood, the consequences are adverse. Heat also causes fatigue and sleep impairments, which worsen the cognitive toll.
Cedeño Laurent and coauthors (2018) conducted a study on university students’ cognitive functions during a Boston heat wave, in which participants completed two tests daily — a numerical task and the Stroop task — over a 12-day period. In the study, some students lived in air-conditioned buildings; others lived without air conditioning (AC). That difference was enough: students in the non-AC group gave fewer correct responses per minute on the numerical task and were slower on the Stroop task.
Similarly, a large-scale study by Yin and coauthors (2024), which tracked over 53,000 people for eight years, revealed that both exposure to extreme temperatures and sustained, long-term exposure are associated with cognitive decline. Under standard climate-change scenarios, the study concluded that average human cognitive function might even decrease by 5-7% by 2100 — a truly sobering prospect.
The practical takeaway is clear. As climate change makes heat waves more frequent and intense, you should be cautious about making important decisions during or shortly after one. The old expression “in the heat of the moment” — usually referring to poor choices driven by strong emotions — now turns out to hold more literally. If you must make a big choice on a hot day, cool down first. Do not trust your gut.
32. Why does the author mention “thermoregulation” in paragraph 2?
A. To highlight the health threat. B. To clarify the biological cause.
C. To praise the body’s adaptation. D. To define a cardiovascular disease.
33. What can we learn from the two studies?
A. Heat exposure impairs cognition.
B. Cognitive decline from heat is permanent.
C. Heat affects cognition via different mechanisms.
D. Air conditioning is essential for preventing cognitive decline.
34. What does the underlined word “sobering” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Confusing. B. Surprising. C. Alarming. D. Promising.
35. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce new cognitive research. B. To urge action against climate change.
C. To warn of heat’s hidden cognitive risk. D. To explain the brain’s working principle.

The Best Ways to Improve Yourself
Real growth is never loud or dramatic, nor is it something you show off on social media. It never comes with grand New Year’s resolutions or flashy efficiency hacks. 36 . These quiet and lasting ways of self-improvement will only make you more whole, without wearing you out.
Focus on consistent long-term habits.
37 . A new notebook, a brand-new plan, a bold goal — they instantly bring that feeling of “I’m making progress,” as if we’re finally changing. Yet such excitement fades surprisingly fast. True improvement never comes from the rush of starting over, but from sticking with the daily routines even after the novelty wears off. Buying piles of books won’t make you knowledgeable; sticking to ten pages of daily reading will reshape your mind little by little.
Choose self-awareness over self-criticism.
Most people try to improve by starting from self-denial, scolding themselves for flaws and slow progress. But shame chips away at confidence over time, turning setbacks into proof of “I really can’t do this.” Real growth begins with clearly seeing your own patterns and limits without harsh judgment. It means noticing “I tend to procrastinate (拖延) when stressed” instead of “Why am I so lazy?” Beating yourself up only creates more stress. 38 .
Broaden your thinking by accepting different views.
People naturally stick to their comfort zones, scrolling through content that confirms their fixed beliefs and staying with people sharing identical opinions. Gradually, their world shrinks without awareness. To break rigid thinking, expose yourself to unfamiliar life stories and opposing viewpoints. 39 . They help you embrace complexity and keep your mind open to constant growth.
Value real action rather than endless overthinking.
Many people trap themselves in endless planning and theoretical analysis. They finish piles of self-help books and design perfect future schedules, yet never take practical steps. 40 . Imperfect practice and real-life feedback teach you far more than hours of time alone to reflect. You don’t have to wait until everything is perfectly sorted out to begin changing.
A. Growth is never about one dramatic leap
B. It’s built through consistent, ordinary actions
C. Such diverse inputs free you from fixed ideas
D. You’ll grow by accepting, not fighting, who you are
E. Real growth means seeing your flaws and fixing them
F. We’re always easily attracted by the thrill of a “fresh start”
G. Waiting for perfect plans holds you back from real progress

Susan had always been a proud and independent woman, but her extremely difficult battle with breast cancer had slowly stripped away her confidence. The agonizing (痛苦的) medical treatment had left her physically exhausted, yet the most disastrous blow was the loss of her hair. Every time she caught a glimpse of her pale reflection in the mirror, she saw a fragile, broken person. Terrified of the sympathetic stares from strangers, she constantly hid her bald head under wigs (假发), avoiding social gatherings altogether.
One rainy afternoon, seeking shelter from the freezing heavy rain, Susan wandered into a small, cozy antique shop. The warm, golden light inside offered a brief, comforting escape from her depressing reality. The air smelled faintly of old paper and polished wood. As she browsed the dusty shelves, her eyes were suddenly drawn to a delicate china vase. However, it was far from perfect. A deep crack ran down its side, but instead of being hidden, the fracture was carefully filled with gleaming gold lacquer (金漆).
Fascinated, Susan brought it to the counter. The elderly shopkeeper smiled gently, her eyes wrinkling at the corners. “It’s repaired using an ancient craft called Kintsugi originating from China,” she explained softly, her voice barely above a whisper. “Instead of throwing away broken things, they are mended with gold. The philosophy is simple: the damage and the repair are part of the object’s history, making it even more beautiful and valuable than before.”
Susan stood frozen, her trembling fingers gently tracing the golden grain on the cool vase. The shopkeeper’s words echoed in her mind, striking a deep chord (弦) within her heart.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Slowly, Susan raised her head and asked the shopkeeper whether she could take a photo of the vase. _______
