A
To see the world is one thing. To have someone to share it with is another. Indeed travel becomes more interesting when you have a travel partner. A travel partner can be a close friend, a family member, a pal you’ve met online, or a business friend.
You can have someone to talk to and turn to
Traveling alone is fun, but wouldn’t you feel lonely? Having a travel partner can remove the feeling of loneliness. It will be very convenient if you can get a travel companion who is very familiar with the place you’re traveling to. You don’t have to ask any information from the locals, and you can save your time.
You can have someone to share the costs with
One of the major headaches in traveling is the costs involved. You can’t simply ignore the rising prices of hotels or plane tickets. You should also think about your daily needs, such as your food. Of course, you can’t simply go back without bringing any souvenirs (纪念品) for your friends and family. All these can overspend your budget (预算). However, when you have a travel friend, you can have someone to share the expenses with.
You can meet a new friend
Having a travel mate is a good way of meeting a new friend or even a lifelong partner. You can never count the number of couples who actually found their way into each other’s heart while traveling together in another country.
You can have someone to watch out for you
When you’re in a foreign land, you’ll never be really safe. You don’t know the rules as well as the culture of the people. A travel mate will be able to remind you of your manners in the country and to look after your luggage just in case your belongings get lost. So why don’t you find a travel companion now? Let’s find out how...
21.Which of the following statements agrees with the author’s opinion?
A.Traveling alone is not fun. B.Buying souvenirs isn’t necessary.
C.Many people meet new friends when traveling. D.It’s better to choose a stranger as a travel partner.
22.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.Giving an introduction of a travel company.
B.Explaining how to be a perfect travel partner.
C.Telling an interesting experience with a travel partner.
D.Showing lots of benefits of having a travel partner.
23.What will the author probably talk about in the following paragraph?
A.How to find a travel partner. B.How travel can benefit people.
C.How to be a good travel partner. D.How to get along with a travel partner.
B
After graduating from high school, the three of us girls kept in touch. But as we got older, years passed without seeing each other. We changed careers, circumstances and addresses.
In the spring of 2014, after Rich and Chris spent a weekend riding trails together in Virginia, Chris suggested the three of us plan a tour. I was a little worried before that first tour. How well did we know each other after all these years? Did we have as much in common as we used to? Would we have enough to talk about? We would be on trails for hours at a time for days. What if none of these were fun?
Actually, I needn’t have worried. We had plenty to talk about. We knew each other better than ever. We got tired and cranky. But the tour was fun. On the trails we talked about common friends we had, new friends we had, books, movies, and music. We circled back to certain conversations and revisited what we had heard or said.
Moving through a changing landscape and following the rivers or the coast seem to enable us to think more broadly and deeply. Having no goal other than reaching our accommodation before dusk presents an unexpected opportunity to deepen our understanding of each other and ourselves. And such unhurried days in nature in the company of friends turn out to be conducive to reflection.
Some places on the trails stay with me more than others. Encounters, too. Among them is the elderly retriever (寻回犬) on Prince Edward Island, waiting for us at the door of Shaw’s Hotel. It’s because, I think, the pleasures that we don’t anticipate stay with us for a longer time and get richer over time. Among these are friendships that persist despite life’s ups and downs, or because of them.
As I write, Chris and Rich are preparing to fly to California, where we’ll ride the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur, near my home. Already, Tour 3 is underway. In our messages we joke with one another, testing out our lines. We plan, we disagree and complain, we express enthusiasm, and we start conversations, knowing they’ll continue on the trails — just as our friendship does.
24.What was the author’s primary concern about the planned tour in 2014?
A.The potential of failing to enjoy the trip.
B.The cost of the tour.
C.The difficulty of riding trails.
D.The physical challenges during the trip.
25.What is one benefit of travelling together without a specific goal?
A.Increasing physical strength. B.Discovering rare landscapes.
C.Improving communication skills. D.Encouraging deeper thoughts.
26.What does the author imply about unexpected pleasures?
A.They fade quickly with time. B.They grow deeper over time.
C.They depend on travel modes. D.They become less meaningful.
27.Why does the author mention Tour 3 in the last paragraph?
A.To contrast it with past experiences. B.To highlight an upcoming travel plan.
C.To indicate the continuation of friendship. D.To emphasize unsolved disagreements.
C
There is a time when many Americans question whether a college degree is worth its cost. However, a recent study found Americans who completed college or university are more likely to have friends and are less lonely than those who only finished high school.
Daniel Cox, director of the Survey Center on American Life, said that in general Americans are experiencing a “friend recession”, meaning a decline in their number of friends. Cox noted, “Americans have fewer close friends today than we did in the early 1990s. But men and those without a college degree are particularly affected because they seem to have experienced a much more dramatic decline over that period.”
The Center questioned 5, 054 people this past summer. It found Americans with a college degree feel more socially connected and are more active in their communities than people who didn’t go to college. As a result, those who completed college report feeling less lonely.
Previous research showed that Americans who didn’t go to college are less likely to marry. A 2012 study found that college-educated women are much more likely to get married than women who dropped out of high school. A 2013 study of people born between 1957 and 1964 found that both men and women who didn’t finish high school are less likely to marry than those with more education.
Today, 65 percent of college-educated Americans over age 25 are married. About 50 percent of people with a high school diploma, or who dropped out of high school, are married. Those numbers were different in 1990, when marriage rates among the college graduates were at 69 percent, compared with 63 percent for those who did not go to college, says a Pew research report.
The American Community Life Survey found around 1 in 10 college graduates say they have no close social connections. That number rises among Americans without a degree, where almost 1 in 4 say they have no close friends.
28.When was the study carried out according to the passage?
A.When psychological problems arose sharply.
B.When the number of college graduates declined.
C.When Americans experienced a friend recession.
D.When concerns about college costs appeared.
29.Why are some studies mentioned in paragraph 4?
A.To provide evidence for the research. B.To analyze the reasons for loneliness.
C.To show the importance of marriage. D.To compare differences in generations.
30.In which column of a magazine may this passage appear?
A.Entertainment. B.Education. C.Technology. D.Health.
31.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Social problems in the American society.
B.Reasons for Americans’ low marriage rates.
C.Links between education and social interaction.
D.Discussions about whether to get a college degree.

David Thomas and I have been friends since we were about 5 years old. We celebrated his 26th birthday last weekend, marking about twenty years of friendship. Now David has got a PhD in English literature, and I’m a science reporter. We found we were both attracted to a study published in Child Development.
In the study, the researchers observed (观察) 169 people for 10 years, starting when they were 15 years old. At the age of 15 and again at 16, the participants (参与者) were asked to bring in their closest friends for one-on-one interviews with the researchers. “They were asked how much trust there was, how good communication was and how disconnected they felt in the friendship,” says Rachel Narr, the lead author of the study. Each year, the participants were surveyed about their feelings of anxiety, depression (忧郁) and self-worth.
Narr says when she watched videos made in the early years of the study, she could easily tell which relationships were strong based on the teens’ behavior. “These teens are likely to be open with one another about difficult topics, and they’re more connected with one another and helping the other person,” she says. When the researchers examined the participants at the end of the study, they found the ones who had close and meaningful connections reported less depression and anxiety and more self-worth at 25 than they had at 15 and 16.
“The finding is valuable, which shows us the importance of teenage friendships, not just in the short term but throughout adulthood,” says Catherine Bagwell, an expert in psychology at Oxford College of Emory University, who was not part of the study.
Obviously, I wouldn’t be the same person without David. During our senior year of high school, my parents were busy with their work. I usually stayed at home alone on weekends, but sometimes David was there with me. He helped me study, clean up the house and do other things. Over the years, we’ve helped each other get through some bigger difficulties, like our addiction to phones. Last weekend, we talked about Narr’s study, and we saw ourselves. The study found a best friend is important, and that makes sense to us.
32.What did the researchers study about the participants at first?
A.Where their stress came from.
B.How close their friendships were.
C.What ways they liked to make friends.
D.How their friendships affected their physical health.
33.What can be implied from the finding of the study?
A.Teenage friendships can influence job choices.
B.Good teenage friendships bring benefits in adulthood.
C.Youth is a perfect period to form lifelong relationships.
D.Long-term relationships develop a sense of responsibility.
34.What is Catherine Bagwell’s attitude towards the study?
A.Confused. B.Uninterested. C.Disappointed. D.Praising.
35.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Researchers measure teenage friendship closeness.
B.A study shows teenage friendships matter into adulthood.
C.Teenage friendships only affect short-term mental health.
D.The author’s friendship with David teaches him the value of competition.

How to Resolve Conflicts with Friends
Friendships are precious, but conflicts can happen even between the closest pals. Whether it’s a disagreement over plans or a misunderstanding, ignoring the problem often makes it worse.
36 Here are simple steps to help you work through the issue.
●Stay calm first.
When you’re upset with a friend, your first reaction might be to argue or say something you’ll regret. Take a few deep breaths, count to 10, or even step away for a few minutes. Calming down helps you think clearly and avoid making the conflict bigger. For example, if your friend cancels plans last minute and you feel angry, wait until you’re not so upset before talking to them. 37
● 38
It’s easy to only see your own side of the story. But trying to understand your friend’s feelings can make a big difference. Ask yourself: Why did they act that way? Were they busy with something important? Thinking about their perspective can maintain a positive attitude during the conversation. This doesn’t mean you have to agree with them, but it helps you talk about the problem without blaming each other.
●Talk it out wisely.
Once you’re both calm, choose a quiet time to talk. Start with “I” statements to avoid making your friend feel attacked. Instead of saying “You always cancel on me,” try “I feel sad when plans change suddenly because I look forward to our time together.” 39 Listen carefully to what your friend says, and don’t interrupt. Let them finish before you respond.
●Work toward a common goal.
After talking about how you both feel, figure out a solution that works for everyone. Maybe you can agree to text each other earlier if plans need to change, or take turns choosing what to do when you hang out. 40 It should not only solve the current problem but also prevent similar conflicts from happening again. A good solution should make both of you feel heard and respected. Remember, resolving a conflict isn’t about “winning”— it’s about making your friendship stronger.
A.Maintain a positive attitude.
B.Put yourself in their shoes.
C.It’s fair and square to set goals for both of you.
D.This way, your friend will be more open to listening.
E.A good solution needs to be practical and long-lasting.
F.However, most conflicts can be fixed with patience and the right steps.
G.The small break can stop you from saying things that hurt your friend.

I never grasped the importance of conserving and protecting nature and wildlife, but five months was all it took to turn my indifference into a passion that has changed the track of my life.
Early last year, I was lost and troubled by an anxiety that crippled (削弱) my ability to do anything, even those I loved. I felt like a storm cloud hung over me. For almost a year I struggled on, constantly staring at this wall that faced me. My pursuit of perfection was the main root of this: I wanted to be the best at whatever I did, which obviously in life is not possible. My perfectionism has always been with me. My time in a small junior school made it easy for me to rise to the top. Upon entering a bigger senior school, though, my pursuit of perfection was far from accessible. Perfectionism in small amounts is brilliant, however in overwhelming doses it can be damaging.
One day, I attended a presentation by wildlife conservationist Grant Brown at my school. His presentation not only awed and inspired me, but also helped emerge an inner desire to make a difference in the world. Luckily, as a member of the Environmental Society, I was invited to join a pre-presentation dinner with him and that smaller setting allowed me to slowly build up my courage to speak one-on-one with him—an idea that had seemed completely impossible. This first contact was where my story began.
First, an application to join the Youth For Our Planet and UK Youth For Nature groups was sent around through my high school. I decided to submit my application, and soon I found myself a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature and creating climate solutions. Later, Brown invited me to attend the World Youth Wildlife Conference.
Five months later, I found myself a group leader in the conference.

Fine
Finally, the first week of senior high is coming to an end. I have quite a lot of new experiences these days.
At first, I felt butterflies in my stomach facing the busy schedule and new courses. Unlike junior high, teachers advise us to think more instead of only taking notes in class. On Wednesday after class, I bumped into a new classmate. We exchanged ideas and soon made friends. I plan to take part in volunteer work with him later.
Well begun, half done. I’m looking forward to my wonderful senior high life and will go all out to realize my dream.
One possible version:
Five months later, I found myself a group leader in the conference. It was my responsibility to communicate and cooperate with ten young environmentalists. Over the following days, what I learned when surrounded by those outstanding people was that they never intended to compete with others. They were just caring, willing to offer help. Every opinion, no matter how basic, was respected. After careful and thorough discussion, down-to-earth solutions were created. In the process, not only did I harvest the sense of achievement, but also I learned to enthusiastically seize every possible opportunity. Therefore, I actively took part in further environmental protection activities.
Each of these steps continued to grow my confidence. I realized that my biggest obstacles in the past was myself. It was that voice in my head that stopped me from reaching my potential. I was too focused on the result instead of taking immediate action. It seemed as if I got great patience, but actually I was losing the opportunity. Good things don’t always come to those who wait. What I should do was to be eager, grab every opportunity and set out to take action. After all, nature doesn’t require our patience, but our action. Just like life, no effort, however small, is ever wasted.

What's the difference between a blue card and the White one? Blue means you have a car and need writers to share the driving. White means that you are looking for a ride. Sounds good. So where's the right board? Is on the second floor of the student union building right by the cinema of the college. Do you get angry when your friends sing loudly while you are trying to study, or when your best friend does not wait for you after school?
A
To see the world is one thing.
【答案】21.C 22.D 23.A
根据第四段“Having a travel mate is a good way of meeting a new friend or even a lifelong partner. You can never count the number of couples who actually found their way into each other’s heart while traveling together in another country.(有一个旅行伴侣是认识新朋友甚至终身伴侣的好方法。你永远也数不清有多少对情侣在异国他乡旅行时真正找到了彼此的心)”可知,许多人在旅行时结识新朋友。故选C。
22.主旨大意题。根据第一段“To see the world is one thing. To have someone to share it with is another. Indeed travel becomes more interesting when you have a travel partner. A travel partner can be a close friend, a family member, a pal you’ve met online, or a business friend.(看世界是一回事。有人分享是另一回事。确实,当你有一个旅行伙伴的时候,旅行会变得更有趣。旅行伙伴可以是亲密的朋友、家人、在网上认识的朋友,也可以是生意上的朋友)”可知,文章主要介绍了拥有旅伴的诸多好处。故选D。
23.推理判断题。根据最后一段“So why don’t you find a travel companion now? Let’s find out how...(那你现在为什么不找个旅伴呢?让我们来看看……)”可推知,下文应该会谈论如何找到一个旅伴。故选A。
【答案】24.A 25.D 26.B 27.C
根据第二段“I was a little worried before that first tour. How well did we know each other after all these years? Did we have as much in common as we used to? Would we have enough to talk about? We would be on trails for hours at a time for days. What if none of these were fun? (在第一次旅行之前,我有点担心。这么多年过去了,我们彼此有多了解呢?我们还有像以前那样多的共同点吗?我们有足够的话题可聊吗?我们一次要在小径上待几个小时,持续好几天。如果这些都不有趣怎么办呢?)”可知,作者主要担心不能享受这次旅行。
25.细节理解题。根据第四段“Having no goal other than reaching our accommodation before dusk presents an unexpected opportunity to deepen our understanding of each other and ourselves. And such unhurried days in nature in the company of friends turn out to be conducive to reflection. (除了在黄昏前到达我们的住处之外,没有其他目标,这为我们提供了一个意想不到的机会,让我们更深入地了解彼此和我们自己。在朋友的陪伴下,在大自然中度过这样不慌不忙的日子,有利于反思。)”可知,没有特定目标的旅行能鼓励更深入的思考。
26.推理判断题。根据第五段“It’s because, I think, the pleasures that we don’t anticipate stay with us for a longer time and get richer over time. (我认为,这是因为我们没有预料到的快乐会陪伴我们更长时间,并且随着时间的推移会变得更加丰富。)”可知,作者暗示意外的快乐会随着时间变得更深。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“We plan, we disagree and complain, we express enthusiasm, and we start conversations, knowing they’ll continue on the trails — just as our friendship does. (我们计划,我们不同意并抱怨,我们表达热情,我们开始对话,知道这些对话会在小径上继续——就像我们的友谊一样。)”可知,作者提到第三次旅行是为了表明友谊的延续。

【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.D
根据第一段中的“There is a time when many Americans question whether a college degree is worth its cost.(有一段时间,许多美国人质疑大学学位是否物有所值。)”可知,人们开始质疑大学学位的价值,结合“However, a recent study found Americans who completed college or university are more likely to have friends and are less lonely than those who only finished high school.(然而,最近的一项研究发现,完成大学学业的美国人比那些只完成高中学业的人更有可能有朋友,也不那么孤独。)”
根据第三段中的“The Center questioned 5, 054 people this past summer. It found Americans with a college degree feel more socially connected and are more active in their communities than people who didn’t go to college.(去年夏天,该中心对5054人进行了调查。研究发现,拥有大学学位的美国人比没有上过大学的人更有社交联系,在社区中也更活跃。)”可知,研究5,045人发现上大学的人感到不那么孤独,根据第四段中的“Previous research showed that Americans who didn’t go to college are less likely to marry.(此前的研究表明,没有上过大学的美国人结婚的可能性较小。)” 故选A项。
根据首段“However, a recent study found Americans who completed college or university are more likely to have friends and are less lonely than those who only finished high school.(然而,最近的一项研究发现,完成大学学业的美国人比那些只完成高中学业的人更有可能有朋友,也不那么孤独。)”
根据首段“However, a recent study found Americans who completed college or university are more likely to have friends and are less lonely than those who only finished high school.(然而,最近的一项研究发现,完成大学学业的美国人比那些只完成高中学业的人更有可能有朋友,也不那么孤独。)”
D
根据第二段中的“At the age of 15 and again at 16, the participants (参与者) were asked to bring in their closest friends for one-on-one interviews with the researchers. “They were asked how much trust there was, how good communication was and how disconnected they felt in the friendship,” says Rachel Narr, the lead author of the study. (在15岁和16岁时,参与者被要求带他们最亲密的朋友接受研究人员的一对一采访。该研究的主要作者雷切尔·纳尔说:“他们被问及友谊中的信任度、沟通情况以及彼此之间的疏离感。”)”可知,研究人员最初调查的是参与者的友谊亲密程度,包括信任、沟通和疏离感等方面。故选B项。
33.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“When the researchers examined the participants at the end of the study, they found the ones who had close and meaningful connections reported less depression and anxiety and more self-worth at 25 than they had at 15 and 16.(当研究人员在研究结束时对参与者进行调查时,他们发现那些拥有亲密且有意义友谊的人在25岁时比15岁和16岁时表现出更少的抑郁和焦虑,以及更高的自我价值感。)”

根据上文“Friendships are precious, but conflicts can happen even between the closest pals. Whether it’s a disagreement over plans or a misunderstanding, ignoring the problem often makes it worse.(友谊弥足珍贵,但即便是关系最亲密的伙伴之间也可能产生冲突。无论是因计划安排而产生的分歧,还是因为误解而产生的矛盾,如果选择置之不理,问题往往会变得更加严重)”以及后文“Here are simple steps to help you work through the issue.(以下是帮助你解决此问题的简单步骤)”前文指出友谊珍贵但冲突难免,且忽视问题会让情况恶化;后文引出解决冲突的具体步骤。F选项(然而,大多数冲突都可以通过耐心和正确的方法来解决)起到承上启下的作用,衔接自然。故选F。
37.根据上文“When you’re upset with a friend, your first reaction might be to argue or say something you’ll regret. Take a few deep breaths, count to 10, or even step away for a few minutes. Calming down helps you think clearly and avoid making the conflict bigger. For example, if your friend cancels plans last minute and you feel angry, wait until you’re not so upset before talking to them.(当你对朋友感到不满时,你的第一反应可能是争吵或者说出一些日后会后悔的话。不妨先做几次深呼吸,数到10,甚至暂时离开几分钟。让自己冷静下来有助于你清晰思考,避免让冲突进一步升级。例如,如果你的朋友临时取消了计划,而你感到愤怒,那就等到自己不再那么生气的时候再和他们沟通)”前文建议生气时先冷静,比如深呼吸、暂时离开。G选项(短暂的停顿能避免你说出伤害朋友的话)是对 “冷静方法” 作用的补充说明,符合语境。故选G。

This doesn’t mean you have to agree with them, but it helps you talk about the problem without blaming each other.(人们往往只看到自己所经历事情的一面。

Maybe you can agree to text each other earlier if plans need to change, or take turns choosing what to do when you hang out.(在交流了彼此的感受之后,要找出一个能让所有人满意的解决方案。或许你们可以约定,如果计划需要更改,就提前互相联系;或者在一起的时候轮流决定做什么活动)”以及后文“It should not only solve the current problem but also prevent similar conflicts from happening again. A good solution should make both of you feel heard and respected. Remember, resolving a conflict isn’t about “winning”— it’s about making your friendship stronger.(它不仅应当解决当前的问题,还应当防止类似冲突再次发生。

故填in。
故填was honoured。
“the approach to doing sth.”

“it is time for sb. to do sth.” 故填to move。
故填would enjoy。
故填but。

September 12th, Friday

Each of these steps continued to grow my confidence.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
