When Lily Chen started high school, she felt completely lost. The hallways seemed endless, her classmates appeared confident, and every teacher spoke at a pace that left her scrambling to take notes. On the third day, she sat in the cafeteria alone, staring at her untouched sandwich, wondering if she belonged there at all.
That afternoon, her English teacher, Ms. Parker, noticed Lily lingering after class. “How’s your first week going?” she asked. Lily hesitated, then admitted, “I feel like everyone else has it figured out except me.”
Ms. Parker smiled. “When I was your age, I ate lunch in the bathroom for the first two weeks,” she said. “High school is like moving to a new country — nobody speaks the language at first. You just have to be patient with yourself.”
Those words stayed with Lily. The next day, she sat at a table with two girls from her biology class and simply said, “Hi, I’m Lily. I’m still trying to find my locker.” They laughed — one of them admitted she had been late to three classes that week. By the end of lunch, they had exchanged phone numbers and agreed to study together.
Over the following months, Lily made small, deliberate choices. She joined the school newspaper, not because she was a great writer, but because it forced her to talk to people. She set her alarm fifteen minutes earlier each morning so she wouldn’t rush. She started using a planner, color-coding her assignments, and breaking large projects into smaller tasks.
By the end of her freshman year, Lily still wasn’t the most popular student, and she still occasionally got lost in the science wing. But she no longer felt like an outsider. She had learned that fitting in wasn’t about being perfect — it was about showing up, being honest about her struggles, and giving herself time to grow.
4. Why did Lily feel lost at the beginning of high school?
A. She couldn’t understand her teachers’ lectures.
B. She had no friends in her new school.
C. She found the environment overwhelming and unfamiliar.
D. She was late to classes on the first three days.
5. What did Ms. Parker mean by saying “high school is like moving to a new country”?
A. Students need to learn a new language.
B. Everyone feels unfamiliar and needs time to adapt.
C. High school students often come from different countries.
D. The school provides international programs.
6. How did Lily change after her conversation with Ms. Parker?
A. She became the top student in her class.
B. She started making conscious efforts to adapt.
C. She stopped eating lunch alone in the cafeteria.
D. She joined the school newspaper as a writer.
7. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Teacher’s Unforgettable Advice
B. Lily’s Freshman Year: From Lost to Found
C. How to Make Friends in High School
D. The Importance of Time Management
C 5. B 6. B 7. B
根据文章第一段第二、三句“The hallways seemed endless, her classmates appeared confident, and every teacher spoke at a pace that left her scrambling to take notes. On the third day, she sat in the cafeteria alone, staring at her untouched sandwich, wondering if she belonged there at all. (走廊似乎没有尽头,她的同学们看起来都很自信,每位老师的语速都让她手忙脚乱地记笔记。第三天,她独自坐在食堂里,盯着没动过的三明治,怀疑自己是否属于这里。)”可知,Lily感到迷茫是因为走廊、同学、老师语速等整个新环境都让她感到不知所措和陌生,这些综合感受说明她对新环境感到难以适应。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段最后两句““High school is like moving to a new country — nobody speaks the language at first. You just have to be patient with yourself.” (高中就像搬到一个新国家——一开始没人会说那里的语言。你只需要对自己有耐心。)”可知,老师用这个比喻强调每个人初到新环境都会感到陌生和不适应,需要时间慢慢调整和适应。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第四段第二句“The next day, she sat at a table with two girls from her biology class and simply said, ‘Hi, I’m Lily. I’m still trying to find my locker.’ (第二天,她和生物课上的两个女孩坐到了一张桌子旁,简单地说:“嗨,我是Lily。我还在努力找我的储物柜。”)”和第四句“By the end of lunch, they had exchanged phone numbers and agreed to study together.
B选项“Lily’s Freshman Year: From Lost to Found (Lily的高一学年:从迷茫到找到归属)”概括了全文主旨。
C
I was born in a small town in Pakistan called Quetta in 1980. When I was a little boy of about ten years old, I developed an interest in calligraphy. Back then we only had a TV channel with limited programs. One of the programs was about learning calligraphy. I was engaged and spent several years learning different calligraphy scripts (笔迹) in the Urdu language.
After graduation, I came to Dubai, UAE. Falling in love with the architecture and high-rise buildings, I wanted to shoot the amazing beauty from different angles. So I bought a camera and learned photography, joined photography groups and attended workshops. However, after a few years, I got bored of photographing landscapes and cityscapes.
Seven years ago, while going through the photography blogs and looking through others’ works, I read the term called “light painting”, a photography technique that allows you to draw in space. I started experimenting with that and soon it hit me: why not bring back my passion for calligraphy using light painting technique? Since that day, I’ve been drawing light calligraphy. To achieve the best results, I decided to build the lights myself. The best part about my work is that they are not beautified digitally. I prefer getting the results directly from the camera. I don’t even turn over the images. To achieve that, I have to write in reverse (倒置) and that took a lot of practice to get it right.
Currently, I’m working on the idea of bringing abandoned places back to life, including buildings which have lost their charm and are hidden in darkness. Through my photography, I try to employ light calligraphy by writing a word that attaches a deep meaning to those places and telling stories behind them. In this way, I hope people will revisit these places and appreciate the real reason for their construction.

C. By drawing in open space. D. By beautifying his photos.
11. What is the author’s role in practising his current idea?
A. A traveler recording his personal journey.
B. A photographer protecting dark areas.
C. A researcher exploring building history.
D. An artist giving life to forgotten places.
A 9. C 10. B 11. D

根据文章第三段中的“The best part about my work is that they are not beautified digitally. I prefer getting the results directly from the camera.(我作品最棒的部分在于它们没有经过数字美化。我更喜欢直接从相机获取结果)”可知,作者追求原汁原味的拍摄效果,不进行后期的数字修饰。选项B“By sticking to the original.(通过坚持原版/原貌)”符合题意。
根据文章最后一段中的“Currently, I’m working on the idea of bringing abandoned places back to life, including buildings which have lost their charm and are hidden in darkness. Have you ever encountered someone who appeared confident before they started speaking? Maybe they entered a room with a relaxed manner, a calm expression, and a clear sense of self-confidence. However, confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It is a skill that can be cultivated and one of the best ways to start is mastering your body language.
Your body constantly sends signals to those around you. The way you sit, stand and move reveals how you perceive yourself. So when you adopt confident body language, it not only influences how others perceive you but also, over time, can fundamentally change your internal state, making you feel more confident.
Several key aspects of non-verbal behavior contribute to this view. Firstly, gesture or posture is essential. You should maintain a straight back with relaxed shoulders, while avoiding crossed arms or eyes fixed on the floor. The pace of movement also matters. When you walk, move at a steady, natural pace: Rushing can make you look nervous, while smooth movements demonstrate calmness and self-control. Furthermore, eye contact is another crucial element of confident communication. Looking at the person you’re talking to shows that you’re listening and interested. You don’t have to stare continuously; occasional eye contact is sufficient. For those who find direct eye contact challenging, try focusing on the area near their eyes instead.
Specific gestures further strengthen the image of confidence. You should keep your hands visible and relaxed, rather than hidden in pockets, which appears more open. A handshake should be firm yet friendly, accompanied by natural eye contact and a smile, lasting about three seconds. Additionally, subtle (微妙的) gestures can boost interpersonal connection. Leaning slightly forward while someone speaks signals concentration. Mirroring, or gently adopting similar postures or gestures to your conversation partner, can promote a sense of connection and make the interaction feel more natural and harmonious.
In conclusion, confidence is not just a feeling inside; it’s something you can show through practice. As your body begins to reflect confidence, your mind will soon follow.
12. What is the function of paragraph 1?
A. To lead into the topic. B. To share a study.
C. To make a warning. D. To introduce a new concept.
13. Why does the author suggest maintaining a straight back?
A. It improves people’s health. B. It slows down people’s movement.
C. It helps people feel more confident. D. It affects people’s opinions of others.
14. How does the author mainly organize paragraph 4?
A. By describing a process in time sequence.
B. By explaining a cause and its various effects.
C. By comparing and contrasting two different gestures.
D. By stating a general idea and giving specific examples.
15. What does the author want to tell us?
A. Confident body language only influences others’ opinions of us.
B. Continuous eye contact is necessary for confident communication.
C. Confidence can be shown through body language and improved with practice.
D. Mirroring others’ gestures only makes them feel uncomfortable during interaction.
A 13. C 14. D 15. C
根据第一段“However, confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It is a skill that can be cultivated and one of the best ways to start is mastering your body language.(然而,自信不是与生俱来的。它是一种可以培养的技能,而最好的方法之一就是掌握你的肢体语言。)”以及下文的内容可知,第一段的作用是引出话题,表明自信是可以培养的。故选A项。
根据第二段“So when you adopt confident body language, it not only influences how others perceive you but also, over time, can fundamentally change your internal state, making you feel more confident.(所以当你使用自信的肢体语言时,它不仅会影响别人对你的看法,久而久之还能从根本上改变你的内心状态,让你感觉更自信。)”
根据第四段“Specific gestures further strengthen the image of confidence. Mirroring, or gently adopting similar postures or gestures to your conversation partner, can promote a sense of connection and make the interaction feel more natural and harmonious.(特定的肢体动作能进一步强化自信的形象。
根据最后一段“In conclusion, confidence is not just a feeling inside; it’s something you can show through practice. As your body begins to reflect confidence, your mind will soon follow.(总之,自信不仅仅是一种内心的感觉;你可以通过练习展现出来。当你的身体开始表现出自信时,你的思想很快也会跟上。)”以及上文内容可知,作者想要告诉我们自信可以通过肢体语言展现,并通过练习得到提升。故选C项。

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As I was walking home from school, I came across a wallet lying on the path. I picked it up, checking on its contents. Five $20 notes inside! Wow, that’s a big money! I couldn’t believe my eyes. I looked around. No one in sight, I quickly put the wallet into my schoolbag and rushed home.
My mum was busy in the kitchen. I secretly slid into my room, carefully placed the wallet into my treasure box and locked it away. All that night, I was lost in thought and kept thinking about the money inside, twisting and turning. The thought of buying myself a bike with the 100 dollars flashed across my mind. I had wanted a bike for a long time, but each time my mom always said we couldn’t afford one. But how could I explain to my mum where I got the money? Suddenly I remembered an upcoming school science competition would offer a $100 prize to the winner. “Why couldn’t I tell my mum that I have won the prize?” A perfect excuse indeed!
I got out of bed and took out the wallet from the treasure box again. This time I noticed there was an old photo inside besides the money. The woman in the photo looked like Mara, my science teacher! I was sleepless all night to wait for the sunrise.
注意:
1.词数应为100左右;
The early morning, I put the wallet back to my schoolbag and hurried to school.

Soon, the day of science competition came.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The early morning, I put the wallet back to my schoolbag and hurried to school. I approached my science teacher before the competition, clutching the wallet tightly, and waited for the right moment. As soon as I saw her alone, I rushed forward. “Mara,” I stammered awkwardly, “I found this wallet on my home and I think it might be yours. I saw your picture inside.” Her eyes widened with surprise. Although she was a bit taken aback, she thanked me profusely and told me it was her mother’s old photo in the wallet, which was very important to her. I apologized for not telling her sooner and she smiled, saying she was proud of me.
Soon, the day of science competition came. On the day of the competition, I did my best and even though I didn't win, I felt like a winner. My mom was proud of me, not because I had brought home a prize, but because of my honesty. I realized it's not the possessions we have, but our actions that define us. And from that day on, I promised myself that I would always choose to do the right thing, even when no one was watching.

8. What can be inferred from the author’s experience in Quetta?
A. He put great effort into learning calligraphy.
B. He grew bored with limited media programs.
C. He was masterfully trained by TV experts.
D. He created various scripts for the local TV shows.
9. What made the author interested in taking pictures in Dubai?
A. The stories hidden in old buildings.
B. The works of famous photographers.
C. The visual appeal of city architecture.
D. The unique landscape of the desert town.
10. How did the author achieve his best results in light calligraphy?
A. By learning from others. B. By sticking to the original.
C. By drawing in open space. D. By beautifying his photos.
11. What is the author’s role in practising his current idea?
A. A traveler recording his personal journey.
B. A photographer protecting dark areas.
C. A researcher exploring building history.
D. An artist giving life to forgotten places.
D
