周周练3 Ⅰ.阅读理解 A (2026·揭阳高一期中)When learning a foreign language, most people fall back on traditional ways:reading, writing, listening and repeating. But Brian Mathias' research team found out that if you gesture (做手势) with your arms while studying, you can remember the vocabulary better, even months later. As Mathias describes, they had 22 Germanspeaking adults learn a total of 90 invented words over four days. While the test subjects first heard the new vocabulary, they were shown a video of a person making a gesture that matched the meaning of the word. When the word was repeated, the subjects performed the gesture themselves.Five months later, they were asked to translate the vocabulary they had learned into German. At the same time, they had equipment attached to their heads that sent weak distracting signals to their primary motor cortex (运动皮层)—the brain area that controls voluntary arm movements. Those who performed better on the task showed a higher level of activity in their motor cortex. The researchers concluded that the motor cortex contributed to the translation of the vocabulary learned with gestures. The effect did not occur when the subjects were only presented with matching pictures instead of gestures. Another research group led by Leipzig had young adults and eightyearold children listen to new vocabulary for five days, paired with matching pictures or videos of gestures. After two months, the two methods were still equally effective. But after six months, the adults benefited more from the gestures than the pictures, while the children were helped equally by both. But it is not only the motor cortex itself that promotes learning. The meaning expressed by the gesture also figures in. “I think we underuse gesture in our classrooms,” GoldinMeadow says.“Good teachers and good listeners use it, but not always in a systematic way.Others don't necessarily bring it into the class—and it could be used more often and more effectively.” 【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章阐述了研究发现利用手势学习外语更有利于记忆单词。 1.What do we know according to Brian Mathias' research? A.Those only presented with matching pictures performed better. B.The motor cortex had nothing to do with the vocabulary learning. C.The research concluded that gestures benefited vocabulary learning. D.22 Germanspeaking adults and children were chosen as the test subjects. C 解析:细节理解题。根据第一段中的“But Brian Mathias' research team found out...even months later.”可知,布莱恩·马蒂亚斯的研究总结出运用手势有利于单词学习。 2.Why was equipment attached to the subjects' heads during Mathias' test? A.To count words. B.To record emotion. C.To influence brain activity. D.To give clues to questions. A.Adults and children are equally good learners. B.Pictures have little influence on language learning. C.Pictures are found more helpful than videos for children. D.Benefits of gestures are more obvious in adults in the long run. D 解析:细节理解题。根据第三段中的“After two months...the children were helped equally by both.”可知,从长远来看,手势学习的好处对成年人更明显。 4.What does the author suggest teachers do in the classroom? A.Make better use of gestures. B.Teach listening in a systematic way. C.Avoid traditional teaching approaches. D.Do some scientific researches on teaching. A 解析:推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“I think we underuse gesture...it could be used more often and more effectively.”可推知,作者建议老师在课堂上更充分地使用手势。 B (2026·山东省实验中学高一期中)Many parents find themselves in a longterm struggle with their teenage children, and years may pass as they see no clear winner. The struggle between parents and teenagers is like a border conflict (边界冲突) between neighboring countries, and the key battle is over the same thing: where the line should be between my control and your actions. Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it.From the parents' point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents' complete unreasonableness.And__of__course,__teens__see__the__situation__in__the__same__way,__but__the__other__way__around.Both feel trapped. In this article, I'll describe three no win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no win situation quarrels over unimportant things.Examples include the colour of the teen's hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child's failure to eat a good breakfast before school, or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends.Second, blaming. The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong.Third, needing to be right. It doesn't matter what the topic is—politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg—the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered an authority—someone who actually knows something—and therefore to earn respect.Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they'll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress. But does it have to be this way? 【解题导语】 本文是一篇议论文。文章讨论了父母和青少年之间的冲突,并描述了三种常见的冲突情境,最后作者暗示将提出解决这些冲突的方法。 5.In what way is a parentteen war similar to a border conflict? A.Neither has any clear winner. B.Both can continue for generations. C.Neither can be put to an end. D.Both are about where to draw the line. D 解析:细节理解题。根据第一段中的“The struggle between...and your actions.”可知,父母和青少年之间的战争与边界冲突相似,因为两者都是关于划定界限的问题。 6.What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 2 mean? A.Teens agree with their parents. B.Teens say their parents mislead them. C.Teens say their parents started the fight. D.Teens usually understand their parents well. C 解析:句意猜测题。根据第二段中的“From the parents' point of view...but the other way around.”可知,父母认为青少年不讲道理,而青少年则认为父母不讲道理,即画线句子意为“青少年说他们的父母挑起了争吵”。 7.Why do parents and teens want to be right? A.To give orders to the other. B.To guide the other's behaviour. C.To get recognition from the other. D.To prove their knowledge is superior. A.Causes of the parentteen conflicts. B.Solutions to the parentteen problems. C.Examples of the parentteen war. D.Future of the parentteen relationship. Hoop rolling is both a child's game and a sport.A large hoop is rolled along the ground, generally by means of an object held by the player to keep it rolling. The aim of the game is to keep the hoop upright for as long periods of time as possible. First, the left hand supports the hoop; the right hand holds the long handle of the hook (钩). And then keep the balance of the hoop with the hook.Push the hoop to the ground, keep it rolling steadily and keep the hoop from falling. In the team competition, it is mainly about who is faster, and how far to roll. Hoop rolling has a very long history and it has been recorded since ancient times in Africa, Asia and Europe. In Asia, the earliest records date from ancient China, and in Europe from ancient Greece. The ancient Greeks welcomed hoop rolling as a beneficial exercise for those not very strong.Besides, the game was also a common pastime of African village children. Hoop rolling serves as evidence (证据) of everyday life about a longgone civilization. At Wellesley College, hoop rolling competition started as a memory of the May Day celebration of spring. Now it gradually becomes part of the graduation ceremony.Students celebrate by dressing up in children's clothing and playing games. The child's play popular in ancient times helps them escape from realworld worries. The long history of the game shows that there indeed are inventions that are timeless. The human ability to make himself and others happy has been present since the beginning of civilization, and will be present forever. 【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一种古老的儿童游戏——滚铁环。 9.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about hoop rolling? A.To remember the May Day celebration. B.To promote a method of reducing stress. C.To encourage other colleges to follow suit. D.To give an example of preserving the tradition.
