维度四 融合教材·主题探究
【改编自北师大选必一U1】
I haven't seen Mr Jenkins since I left school, but I often think about him. I wasn't very good at most school subjects before I met Mr Jenkins. I suppose I was a bit lazy, especially in maths. The only thing I can remember from school maths is that the angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees! But when I was 15 and went into Mr Jenkins' class, I really became interested in a subject for the first time.
课后巩固 多维提能
Before Mr Jenkins taught me, science had simply been a subject full of strange words to me. I had no idea what hydrogen was, and I didn't really want to know, either! I found it all so boring and difficult. But Mr Jenkins made everything interesting. He used to explain things which seemed difficult with lots of practical examples and in simple language. One day, he took us outside, and we built a rocket! I remember that he let me pour some fuel into the rocket, and then another student lit a match to set it off. It was great fun.
课后巩固 多维提能
I know that I wasn't a willing student, but I wasn't slow to learn new things. The problem was that I lacked confidence in myself. Mr Jenkins made me feel that I had my own strengths. I was interested in the study of the stars and planets and he asked me to give a presentation to the class. That was really the first time I had tried to explain science to an audience and now it's my job! Often when I'm preparing a programme, I think about how Mr Jenkins would have done it. Sometimes I think, if only I could call him and ask for his opinion!

Two years ago I was very lonely and didn't talk with anyone about my feelings. At the time I didn't have many friends. I wanted someone to share my experiences and secrets with. I wanted someone to understand me. I started to imagine this friend and often imagined our conversations and what we would do.

Some weeks later we started a new project in school and I was working with one of my schoolmates. We had never worked together before but we got along well. After the project we started to spend some time together in school. One day we decided to take a walk. Ever since that walk we've been best friends. We listened and really understood each other.
I had wished for a best friend, but the universe gave me so much more. I have met one of my soul mates. We can sense each other, and it just takes one look and we know what the other is thinking. I didn't think our friendship could grow much stronger. But now we have known each other for two years and our friendship is growing all the time.

It hasn't only been easy. We have gone through both easy and hard times. But I'm thankful for the hard times, because they have forced me to grow and taught me a lot. My best friend has changed me. She has made me believe in myself. And I am now focusing on achieving one of my biggest dreams. Without her I wouldn't even have realized what my biggest dream is.
I know there are soul mates out in the world for you. I am so thankful to have met one of mine. Believe in them, and your paths will cross!

Teens often find themselves in difficult situations with friends where they struggle to communicate their needs or their values. Even when their guts (直觉) are telling them that someone is crossing a line, they may struggle to express that the situation is making them uncomfortable. For this reason, parents need to work with their teens to establish boundaries with others.
课后巩固 多维提能
Although boundaries are different for everyone, when done correctly, they help teens set limits with others in order to protect themselves. Setting boundaries allows teens to communicate with other people about what is OK and what is not OK with them and is important to teen friendships.
What are boundaries? Boundaries are limits teens establish in order to protect themselves in some way from being hurt, manipulated (操纵), or taken advantage of. As an expression of self-worth, boundaries let other people know who they are, what they value, and how they want to be treated. Additionally, boundaries help to create space between teens and other people when they need it.
课后巩固 多维提能
Learning how to set boundaries—both physical and emotional—plays a key role in growing up. It's also essential to develop friendships that are respectful, supportive and healthy. Unfortunately, though, many teens have trouble setting boundaries with their friends, and when this happens, it puts them at risk for everything from unhealthy friendships to bullying or abuse.
Of course, setting boundaries isn't easy. It's uncomfortable and forces teens to stand up for themselves. What's more, communicating boundaries to other people can lead to difficult conversations or uncomfortable situations. However, it's one of the most important things that teens need to learn how to do.
